My variegated Micans has grown really nice variegation on all the new leaves coming out. I keep it in high light, but it was not always in high heat, so perhaps it is more to do with light. I gave up on Monstera Peru variegated. I do not think I will get another one of those.
My Monstera Peru thrive in pumice w/ 10% zeolite, I dilute the fertilizer so that I can feed it w/ every watering & I use beneficial bacteria ant 2x a month.
An Alocasia that holds its variegation really well is: Alocasia macrorrhiza variegata. I’ve had mine for years and every pup I sell from it always has beautiful stable variegation. My fav plant by far ♥️♥️♥️
I'm always surprised how people think variegated micans are attractive, to me they look sickly🫣 and the OG micans is so gorgeous and readily available/affordable
my therapist has heard about my monstera peru. i bought it as the most glorious 3 leaf, highly variegated cutting over a year ago, in that time it has spat out one singular FULL GREEN leaf, after the previous leaf was almost 90% variegation. it has taken a lot of meditation to not throw it at the wall
Hello everybody, Philodendrum domesticum: 18 months ago I bought a One-Halfmoon-Leave cutting of a variagated Domesticum (being a rookie at that time). It roted slowly and got thriving. But turned yellow more and more. I cut it back recently. Now let's wait and see. Monstera "Peru": I got 2 little plants. Initially nothing happened. Then one started thriving pretty fast. REverted. I cut it back. Now let's wait and see.
I bought a baby alocasia odora variation. It had 3 leaves beautifully variegated. The fourth leaf came in green, and the first 3 died off cuz i went too long between watering. My plant is now much bigger, probably another 3-4 leaves later, and still green. Even a corm that i collected from it during a transplant turned out green
Great video. I've actually had a huge problem with regular monstera Peru, surprise runners, surprise yellowing, incredible growth followed by zero growth, just a nightmare
The one variegated planta that consistently keeps its varigation are variegated peace lillies. Some time they through out half moons, but the variegation is always consistent.
I've had a variegated spathyphyllum with narrow leaves minty variegation and some blotches of green I see it a lot in Indonesia but boii it's the most trouble I've had with a plant the leaves grow narrower with time and feed hasn't made a difference I don't know but Im wondering if I should just try a nother specimen and see if it's just the one I have 😢
I’m watching the vid but had to pause and drop a comment on the Monstera Peru var.. I agree with you 1000%. This is at the top of my most hated plants. It is such a little b*tch!!!! After about a year of struggling with it I literally ripped it out of the pot, smashed it to bits, and threw it in the trash. I could’ve sold it for a decent amount of money but it was sooooo worth it to take my anger out on it!
I have not had a variegated peru, but I have had a green one and it really sucked to grow. Really difficult to propagate, it would grow two leaves and then just stop and rot.
My variegated Alocasia frydek has done so well. Every leaf has been gorgeous. 🤞. Also what I’ve loved is no matter how much white there is on a leaf it doesn’t brown.
Variegated ZZ didn't make the list? Its got to be one of the most beautiful plants but, I've been struggling with mine for 3 years. Purchased a stalk with bulb which developed stem rot just right away. I took every leaf from the rotting stalk (12 leaves if I remember correctly) to propagate in an attempt not to lose the plant. 3 years later all but 4 propagations are lost, two of the four keep throwing out 100% white growths that just die back, 1 is all green and just 1 is variegated. The stalk on the variegated one rotted again a couple months ago but I kept the pot hoping that the bulb(s) would push out another stalk, its ever so slowly pushing another variegated stalk. It has to be the most annoying plant with the worst odds EVER! How are yours doing?
As I get older, there are very few sayings so immediately GLAM that I add them into my daily repertoire, but BY GOD. “It’s giving me sexual, is what it’s giving me” @20:45 is a ZINGER. As always great videos, love the vibes and variegation!
idk if its a conscious choice or not but the fact that this video started any ads was like a breath of fresh air after being submersed underwater for months
I still can't manage to keep Syngoniums alive. And I find Aglaonemas very hard to grow from cuttings but also devided from root shots sometimes fail even if they have some roots.
I just asked that question here. My plant just felt the need to be fancy this summer and threw out a leaf with a good bit of sectoral variegation. As you say- it’s brownish/red but as I described it; reddish pink😅. That patch wasn’t there in the past two weeks since that leaf unfurled. I just noticed it when watering this week. So I’m inclined to believe that the variegation takes time to come through? I don’t know what will come of it, but I’m curious to see how it will develop and if the new leaves will also have variegation. Does the variegation on yours stay brownish red? Was it clear to see as soon as it unfurled?
Peru- nightmare for me in a sense of melting and burning- variegation is stable but it looks like crap due to 1st problem! Can you put the yellow variegation Micans next to the pink one and watch it for a while to see if it turns pink- I want the “mint ghost “ experiment!
How do y’all feel about a series where Kaylee goes through the whole shop and cleans up anything that needs it. Like when she says “I should probably do sum bout that”. Kaylee cleans? New series?
Varigated monstera Peru have been a nightmare since they first popped up. I say this LOVING Peru and adoring bullate leaves in general but the variegated form is... ugh. More drama than a toxic narcassistic ex!
No, literally so true about the Monstera Peru. It’s one of those plants that like I have the not varied version but it’s either thriving and growing super fast or I look at it the wrong way and then it has spider mites and it’s dying like I have no idea why this plant is so finicky I had mine die and then come back from nothing like three times. All the exact same plant. It’s either thriving or dying. Anyone let me know if they have tips
I would add a philodendron paraiso verde to you’re list as well- it why plant is the bane of my existence the plant self grows great, but I cannot get the variegation ever- I’ve read that it has to do with heat more than light but my plant has basically given me the middle finger and moved on with life no matter what I do
Agreed! I've also had so many issues with mine as well regarding bringing out the variegation. Tried everything you mentioned in the last year it's been in my care. The plant is still alive, making new roots and leaves that are slightly mottled, but not really thriving. So starting last month and going into this summer it will sit out on my NE balcony in a shaded spot to really test the theory that it responds to temperature. So far it's been a couple of weeks and there is a new leaf about to emerge! I'm hoping to see some better variegation.
Sorry to say, but the reason it's giving you trouble is because it IS in fact more to do with LIGHT... 😮💨 (I've grown these things for 4-5 years now, please trust me -- heat is what keeps them in active growth stages, light is what keeps them variegated) It drives me absolutely In. Effing. Sane. to see this heat theory STILL being spread around, when the symptoms people always have issues with (leggy-ness, reaching/stretched inter-nodal spacing, loss of a mottled-type variegation, etc...) are SO obviously all the tell-tale signs of etiolation and light-starvation!!!! I have a feeling the reason a lot of sellers still try to tell people it's heat-based is just an attempt to try to keep the intrigue (and therefore the value) up, because - let me tell you - once you have a stock of these plants, they're TOUGH to run out of (they grow SO incredibly prolifically!) Unfortunately, that also means that they take up a lot of valuable front-row grow-light realty, (because, yes, they want A LOT of light) so if they're not earning their keep, then it's tough (as a seller) to want to put in that effort, and sacrifice the space that could be used for other, more valuable plants.
I have one paraiso verde that I got in pretty bad shape, I chopped it off made 4 plants out of it. Sold all of them and only have the mother plant now. Has so awesome variegation on it also. I keep them very close to the light and there is always a fan and humidifier running. I fed her every week. I hope that helps 😊
It definitely is heat in my experience. When the weather is consistently 90F my plant puts out the most beautiful leaves, 70s and 80s pretty much plain green.
@jmfrunner Sorry, but that is not accurate. It is a tropical plant that will go into a state of growth dormancy if/when temperatures get too low. That said, even in lower temps, as long as a Paraíso is still getting enough light, then whatever growth it does manage to put out will remain variegated. Once the plant is allowed to go fully green, if it is moved to a better-lit spot, then it will take the plant 2-3 leaves to start putting out variegation again (this is why a lot of people I've talked to about this have given up on light) but I guarantee that WILL come back. [EDIT: Also, just wanted to mention that none of my plants are ever kept at 90°f+. My average grow temps are between 78°f-83°f, but I've done plenty of testing with this plant -- I've acclimated specimens down to 65°f (and lower) and all have remained variegated until I drop their light exposure too low.]
I have a var. frydek and you are 100% right although I don’t have a problem with it reverting but it’s always too variegated. And I had to cut it 3 times and it finally has green stems but I’m honestly so done with it 😂
Yeah for me it's my annoying variegated burle marx...3 times the charm. Had to chop it right back and still dubious about it. If it doesn't give me what I want this time it's OUT!😫🤯😤
Agreed that variegated alocasia is chaos! Bought this stunner with 3 VERY variegated leaves. Pushed out a green leaf. Lost all variegated leaves. But FINALLY a new leaf is pushing out and I'm holding my breath!
I have a variegated homalomena rubescens. It grows fairly fast and consistently. I've never had pest issues. It's vibe is easy-going surfer guy. Just so chill. EXCEPT for that damn variegation. I have a huge plant and it just looks like someone sneezed light green on it, if I'm that lucky. Variegation is barely present.
I don't ever want any kind of homalomena again. I have tried 2 of them because they are just so beautiful. I think we never see them any other size because they don't want to live. All they do is sit there and wilt while they grow new leaves so they can sit there and wilt too. No more money for homalomena
I don’t want to say the B word but grow Mickey Mouse is the worst experience I have ever have. My humidity was not quite well at very beginning and within 2 weeks it reversed the size 90% and after I add humidity to this plant it has root issue again cut another 50% on what she left. She is not like other plants died so quickly and made me feel so guilty week after week.
Hack em back! I’ve seen cuttings lose variegation bc they don’t have enough of a root system. So now that it’s surely got a decent root system hack it all the way back and give some super bright light. My epipremnum and homleomena reverted. When I took cuttings so after about 3 months of steady growth that wasn’t variegated I chopped back and now the new leaves are getting their variegation back. I have a theory that some plants try no to varigate if they they don’t have the root support for it. 🤷♀️
Okay I’m currently propagating an incredibly variegated monstera Peru. It ended up sending out a runner and I’m pretty sure the new leaf will be green. I’m so annoyed. I didn’t know how unstable they were and I probably wouldn’t have paid what I did for a single node mid cut.
Those plants you’ve shown, thrive specific temperature and full sun the plants need. Even plants can recognize merely not growing from the environment they like.
I'm guessing you're new to the hobby. Plants don't need exact native conditions to grow, they acclimatize and adjust themselves generally, its why my saguaro cactus and orchid can survive in the same room. Also, variegation really comes down to the plant genetics, it's why the variegation in a Thai Constellation is so different from a Monstera Albo. The number of plants that have variegation directly affected by environmental conditions are far and few between.
@@prismatica8416 No! That’s why hobbyists got their plant dormant after acclimation, the plant thrives to specific temperature and humidity like anthuriums and alocasia. Even Musa banana never wanna thrive to cold temperatures, you may wanna research first before complaining why those variegations ain’t gonna work to your environment. Aroid variegation differ from any plant parameters.
I bought a few reverted plants, they were sold with disclaimer with absolute truthfulness the variegation disappeared. I got them for less than the green version. I love them, but they don't ever show any variegation ever.
I have a normal Peru, that is growing really slowly, its not variegated though but I have noticed it is doing better in slightly lower light levels than I keep my Monstera Deliciosa.
This is the perspective from a plants viewpoint. If you are fancy and stand out from your surroundings you become a target. More green will come from your growth for protection among the herd so to speak. Highly variegated plants are highly desirable and have come about by human manipulation. It is not desirable from a survival situation so they are really rebelling to go back to their natural origin. That’s my viewpoint. It needs green for long term survival.
I like your main sentiment, but variegation is a naturally occurring characteristic. Sure, humans have figured out *how* to manipulate it but the fact that even highly variegated p. spiritus sancti can come from seed should be enough to prove that. There are several different types of variegation, and chimeric variegation (what's being focused on here) is something that happens naturally. It's like a calico cat. Literally any plant can end up variegated, and some plants like maranta are *only* variegated, there is no plain green version.
just because it's a natural variegation doesn't mean it's advantageous. You also see leucistic animals in the wild and they do not have great survival rates. Mutations are random. Natural selection and chance decides if it survives in the wild or not.
My Monstera Peru (regular) is fantastic and the leaves get bigger. But the Monstera Peru Variegated? SUCKS. The variegated leaf keeps turning brown no matter what I do. It lives in the same conditions as the regular M. Peru but what an ugly looking plant. Don't know what to do about it.
You can read my mind-or I yours. Just as I was fixing my fingers to ask about variegated Micans… you started talking about them. Kaylee…what color does your Micans variegation come in before it hardens off? My Micans felt the need to be all fancy and threw out a leaf with a fairly large variegated patch. That patch wasn’t there the past two weeks🥴 The color is a bronzy pinkish color that is clearly lighter than the rest of the leaf. So what ik asking…does the variegation come in slowly like the monstera Adansonii aurea variegation does? Micans…is that how you pronounce it? I’ve been pronouncing it as Me-Cans🥴😂
Think you need a "reverted" outlet in your shop.
Truthful and very respectful reply.
As a buyer, I could (depending on the prices) be interested
I spot a new tattoo? Love love love! Gotta say, I also love your videos. I actually sometimes binge watch them. 😂

Controversial yet brave, but I agree!
Totally agree
When did you get a tattoo? Love it!
My Thai Sunrise is a problem. So many chops and still so many solid golden leaves.

This is why I came to the comments!

The rant on monstera Peru had me rolling 😂
Hello. I live en Panam City. My peru has good variegation, but it is too slow. I have it for 1 year now and only 3 to 4 new leaves
was literally just drooling over that homalomena yesterday so thanks for the heads up lol
Burle marx mint made me decide to hate variegates, the worst plant I ever had
Monstera standelyana aurea. 🙄 Mine just refused to not start putting out all yellow leaves.
I got a snow queen Pothos that I got and crisped right up the leaves . Also a philodendron birkin and it reverting pain in the arss
This felt like a therapy session and I loved it! 😂
Great video. I've actually had a huge problem with regular monstera Peru, surprise runners, surprise yellowing, incredible growth followed by zero growth, just a nightmare
I saw it (regular) in the nursery and was thinking about getting it…good to know about your experience and I’ll probably give it a miss 😂
Similar issue. I had two and couldn't get either to grow lush and healthy. No more MP for me.
SAME. everyone I’ve had just turns yellows and dies after a week.
The one variegated planta that consistently keeps its varigation are variegated peace lillies. Some time they through out half moons, but the variegation is always consistent.

The plant often has different genetics.
I think Syngonium Albo Variegated are one of them. Mine was reverting.😢
Interesting tattoo! 🤗

When I took cuttings so after about 3 months of steady growth that wasn’t variegated I chopped back and now the new leaves are getting their variegation back. I have a theory that some plants try no to varigate if they they don’t have the root support for it. 🤷♀️
I looooove your new arm tattoo! ❤
Do you have a variegated philodendron horse head?
my variegated billie has been great so far!
I love watching you videos while chopping my plants. 😍 You are absolutely right with the monstera Peru variegata 😉
"It's a fucking nightmare, guys!"Lol re Peru monstera. OKOKOK.I promise i will not get it.
It‘s Monstera spec. / sp. ‘Peru‘. It is an undescribed Monstera species from Peru
Omggg. I have the worst luck with var. Peru too 😂😢 I’ve had several and none of them are even close to to being something to brag about.
My Domesticum is like my baby! She has been so good and the love of my life! 🙈🙈🙈🙈
new tatt?? awesome if not new my bad but is perfect !!! ❤️❤️
The tattoo!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
For your raffle tickets 🎟 can Canada 🇨🇦 play too? I know you don't do deliveries to Canada so I was not sure . Please let me know please .
Fertilizer and more water
i have a similar experience with micans....
Is that a new tattoo? Or did I miss a video? Love ya content!
my pro tip: dont even get variegated alocasias xD
My burle marx mint is amazing!! And just as easy as my burle marx var.
I love your tattoo! Adds so much character to people’s body!
love your tattoo!!!
First!!! I love you're videos 📹 ♥️
The new tattoo is so distracting to me because I keep expecting it to be addressed 😂😂
That patch wasn’t there the past two weeks🥴
The color is a bronzy pinkish color that is clearly lighter than the rest of the leaf.
So what ik asking…does the variegation come in slowly like the monstera Adansonii aurea variegation does?
Micans…is that how you pronounce it? I’ve been pronouncing it as Me-Cans🥴😂
It's called polaroid variegation, and you are correct!
@@fioregiallo thank you so much
Var FLF!! Ugh! Don’t get me started.
For some reason my peru has the most stable variegation of all my monsteras lol
