I love my Gloriosum. I put mine in a self watering pot with an extremely airy mix. ( orchid bark mix with large perlite, perlite, worm castings and small orchid bark mix. ) it is happy and healthy. I have gotten 5 leaves in six months and one is on the way. I have found that the higher light the faster it grows however the higher light the more bleached out the leaves get. It is about 3' under three grow lights and that seems to be its sweet spot for me. I have the dark form and it is stunning. Make sure you never burry the stem in the pot. That is a sure way to rot. I have found that spagnum moss is the best medium for me to rehab this plant in if there are roots left. I have several others that I am rehabbing. If no roots I used water.
Gday from down under ☺️ This was brilliant!! Finally being shown the potential of a plants growth if in right conditions and the time it’ll take. We all have our fave planty UA-camrs and they show us their beautiful specimens, but rarely do they show us a before and after and how long it takes to get there. LOVE LOVE LOVE this to be a series!
I love my gloriosum, I’m in North Queensland and found it one of the easiest to grow. I grow in very free draining mix of bark, perlite, gravel due to the amount of rain we get. 💚
Maybe its just my perception from Spain and Germany but they became sooo cheap, like 30€ maybe. I just bought a more rare Dark Form with 2 leafs for 45€ and another very small dark form for 15€. I think this is because its a very easy to care for plant that grows fast and is also very easy to propagate.
This really is a fantastic plant. It really is one of the hardiest and easiest philos I’ve had only second to Billitiae. Chopped mine right after I got it into 3, no problems. One is growing in pon and the other two in soul outside. I get a new leaf every 1-2 weeks and it sizes up quickly like you said. Great plant.
We get small 10-14cm pots of this plant for 10-12€ now in garden centers in germany and austria. So I finally bought one. Quite exiteted about that ngl
Propagation: I had put a propagation into a round pot and kind of forgot about it. It outgrew that pot with 3 leaves. I thought about repotting it into something rectangular, but because I had been watering it irregularly, the leaves weren't that pretty. So I just chopped between the nodes and left it in that pot. Eventually, all three nodes sprouted new growth. I kept the whole shebang top-dressed with moss and when the pot got really crowded (each node had one new leaf and another on the way), I repotted all three.
I've just bought my very first P. gloriosum from a local online seller and I can't believe it!! 😱 It was only 8€ as well (the description says it's a 40cm plant, but in the photo looks like a small cutting, but still). I really never thought I'd get my hands on it, I can't believe it and I'm really anxious growing it, especially for not being able to leave it outdoors for the next 4-5 months, but I'm keeping all of your tips and hope for the best. Have a wonderful evening!!
I recently found a small plant shop that has become my go to spot. A real hidden gem. I just picked up a Gloriosum Silver for $50, it is about 2x bigger than the starter plant you showed. They are always having insane deals on all these rare plants that I can't seem to find in person anywhere else in my area.
I just purchased a small Gloriosum thanks to this review! Yay! If it grows, I may need to figure out a good place and use a grow light and humidifier for my home in New York. But it’s small so I have time to see how it goes. Thanks so much Memo for these reviews. I look forward to watching and learning!
I got mine in late fall. I’m still waiting on the first leaf to come out. It’s well rooted and the other leaves look fantastic. I have the stem sitting on top of the soil. Hopefully it will kick into gear soon.
Yes very much a believer, I try to live by the notion of trying to put as much positive out into the world and hopefully it will multiply 🌍💚 thanks glad you enjoyed 😊
I love your videos...on this one you said it grows along the soil or crawls...you had the plant right behind you and would have loved to actually "see" what you were talking about...and a shot of what it was sitting in?...😁
Great idea on the new serie ! I've been hesitate on getting a Gloriosium because its a crawler and takes more space but your video make me want to change my mind haha ! Magnifique gloriosium 🌿
Great format, thank you! I love my Gloriosum so far, everything you said basically! Here in Australia they're actually pretty cheap now, well under $100, I guess because they grow like weeds outdoors up north in Queensland. However I have never seen the other varieties - I'd love to have a bright silver vein one but haven't seen them here. Gorgeous plant though and yes a fast grower for me too so far!
Ahhh yes, some Aussie friends did mention that it can grow outdoors in parts of Queensland there, I bet they look awesome in the wild. Yeah so many varieties now, with darker leaves, lighter leaves, faded veining, brighter veining, truly something for everyone
Love the video and I love my Gloriosum. I’ve only had it since last fall and so far it has been easy to care for and a fast grower so I don’t have much to add for a review but I do have a question. The last few weeks it has started yellowing on the edges of 3 leaves, I make sure it is almost dry before watering and it gets medium to bright light. It has been perfectly happy for almost 6 months in my care so any thoughts or tips?
Awww glad you enjoyed, I has similar issues with mine for a while and it was mild leaf oedema, sometimes with my gloriosum, I find it can be a bit sensitive of going too many days dry, if that makes sense... I try to water it within a day or 2 after it's gone dry, when I left it dry for longer I started seeing similar indications like what you mention, hope that helps 😊
Can u do a video on the Philidedren Esmaraldense I am wonder about the growth and how much u enjoy this plant .I want to know how sensitive they are on climate, drafts and the light and watering
Very usefull review. I love this new format. I don't have the space for a crawler philodendron but if I would this one would be on the top tier of the list with the Mc Dowel!
Ahhhh I am glad you enjoyed and yes I fully get you on the Mc Dowell, been on my wishlist for 3 years now 😭 but I still have hope that one day I will get one 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Hi Memo, i do have 2 gloriosums. 1 green and the other one is the dark form. I saw in the last few months a zebra variety promoted . Now the question is, is there any diference betweek the dark form and the zebra one? Thanks. Love you videos
@@chloedile9769 thanks a lot, he clearly didn't know the answer, as he didn't bother to reply to my comment. He could have said at least the he doesn't know. And yet 3 month later i have an asnwer from another plant grower fellow that was kind enough to to write a short but concrete sentence. Thank you again!
65 comments under this video multiplied by number of his videos. Why wont you type it into internet and think about it youself instead of being mad at a youtuber that is nice enough to make such a long video without much profit made compared to time consumed. Pathetic.
Dear mr Houseplantygoodness, Ive just learnt about this from your this video and absolutely love it. Hello Memo, so I have one and love it so much. But it's starting to turn a little yellow on a few of my leaves now. It was a gift from a good friend and I'm not to sure if its a watering issue any ideas? Would love the help.
I just bought a plant ITS small size i don't know if Its gloriosum or not , i just like it and buy it , now IM searching the name of the plant , looks similar like that , mine has dark green colour, Velvet and thick texture. How your gloriosum juvinille looks like ? Thanks
I don’t understand… the plant crawls & as it does it roots instantly as it crawls & the you air-layer… to root it. 🤨 & a leaf a month… that is almost unbelievable.
I can do a separate video on air layering if you want to see how it works on this one. In terms of growth speed, that is roughly how quickly mine grows
It's essentially top-dressing the nodes with moss, like you do with anthuriums. Just gives you more/better roots all around the node. As for one leaf per month, I can confirm. If it is happy, it will pop one every few weeks. But conditions need to be pristine for that to happen.
I've rooted a few wet sticks. Both from juvenile and very mature plants. I think the key is to have the box on a heat mat. Mine stand on the floor because I have floor heating (coils in the screed). And you need good moss.

That is awesome, fully agree on the moss comment and the not burying the stem. Can fully vouch for that too 😊

Yes, I would love that, too! :D
I will do a video on that soon 😊 I can talk on my conservatory conditions no problem 🙂

Yes agree! But really love Memmo. Lovely spirit. 😍 Great video format.
I just got my gloriosum today! Each of the 4 stems are about 4 feet tall. I paid $12.49 American for it
True, their growth style is kinda funky, they do take up a lot space but nonetheless beautiful and quite velvety! I would love to get mine super large
I love the idea behind this video!! This is really going to be an entertaining but also informative series! Can't wait for more!!

Awwww glad you enjoyed, I won't lie it does grow wide, so it's good that you know that, but very much a plant to easily fall in love with ☺️
Looking forward to this series. I got a little gloriosum a few months ago and was so happy to see this video !

Awww thanks, yeah I think this will definitely be a series. Glad you enjoyed!
I´ve received mine at the start of the winter months and yet it keeps on growing. It´s pushing out 3rd leaf, so I can´t wait to see it grow in summer.
Definately reliable growers ☺️🌿❤️

Definately, will add it to the list ☺️🌿❤️
Ooooh YES, the great Esmeraldense! :D
Love the knowledge and advice. Your my go to for info and guidance. Off now to find a gloriosum to add to the
plant fam 😊
Awwww glad you enjoyed and thank you for the very kind words, means a lot truly 🙏🙏😊

My review: 0 out of 10. Do not recommend. Wet stick rotted in my prop box. Do I want another one? Yes, I do. Do I make poor decisions? Yes, I do.
Ohhh nooo, sorry to hear that 😢 I have not tried to root one from wet stick so good to know
