Jonas Vingegaard EASILY DROPS Pogačar on Mont Ventoux

- Lanterne Rouge presents highlights of Stage 11 of the Tour de France 2021 where the riders faced the historic Mont Ventoux climb two times but with a descent finish. A breakaway with polka dot jersey hopefuls like Quintana and Alaphilippe would surely form but energy conservation was key in this 200km stage, where Tadej Pogacar was put under pressure once again by his rivals in Jumbo-Visma and INEOS.

I could not believe my eyes, nor conceal my excitement, when Vingegaard drove away from Pogacar. It's a bummer that he didn't even get a few seconds or something, but the fact that it is humanly possible to distance Pogacar on a climb might be playing into the mind games of the coming mountain stages.
Also, super happy for Jumbo Visma in general. Seeing Tony Martin crash out seemed like digging the hole deeper, but what a way to turn it around. Now we just need van Aert to win the sprint tomorrow to have the weirdest two stage wins in row. I'd love to see it.

Are you dumb or?
Why Vingegaard wait 2 km to attack its his faulth
@@Ivan-nu2um tell me you dont watch cycling without telling me you dont watch cycling
It was neutralized because Roglic is gone, and Thomas is injured, and Pogacar is 5 minutes ahead already - the only one left with the balls to attack, is a young inexperienced rider, that didn't expect to be in that position, so of course he waits, because even just a top 10 finish will be considered a huge success, he was never supposed to be the one that created the racing.
@@Nukleon LOL noob think top finish id the best way to have gaps
Don't see why we needed the second descent of Ventoux. It basically took away all the drama from seeing Pogacar dropped today. We had the same thing when Movistar chased Carapaz a few stages back. It's a hopeless stage design.
It's all about money. A mountain top doesn't pay to be the finish, a city does. It's that simple.

@@user-vw4hv4dj4e I guess it’s something in this direction…
Ventoux specifically is a bit of a nightmare to organise a finish on, because there is not really anything there on the top, just some roads, parking lots, and old an old decommissioned weathertower, but no infrastructure beyond that, not much space, and nothing to entertain spectators at the finish. But in general it's becoming a bit of a trend, to have fewer mountain top finishes, since the GC favourites tends to just sit on each other till 3 km to go, and then just sprint to the finish from there.
It gives weaker climbers the possibility to reach the time limit
There are contruction works or something on the top i heard, that's why
Respect to TP. In the interview he didn't try to hide the fact that Jonas V rode him off his wheel towards the top. He was also smart enough to realise the Dane would only gain a handful of seconds if anything as it all equals out on the decent. WVA, incredible. Thank you LR.
I don't watch the race live anymore, your stage recap is even better than any mainstream media. BIG BIG THANK YOU.
Is WVA the only rider who could possibly win the green and polkadot jerseys in a single TdF?
Colbrelli might could
2019 allaphillipe might have been able to pull it off if he went for it.
He's far behind on points in the green jersey classification, and I'm not sure if he's still in the mood to go for those KOM points after burning himself out on Mt Ventoux. Especially with the Olympics in mind I don't think he'll try. Even if he did, not sure if he'd be able to pull it off.
@@nerfmono1 He won't. Apart from last year, the KOM classification basically has been a breakaway competition of riders, who can't really win anymore. Not much prestige in winning that, not for a superstar like Van Aert, who is basically able to win any stage and any one-day race.

Looked to me like he realized it wasn't worth digging deeper. He would be seriously cooked before the start of third week if he went all out on this and it proved to not be worth it. Should have never responded in the first place. Unless Pogacar blows up big time somewhere, twice, Vingegaard is not a threat.
You can't dope your way out of muscle damage from excessive use. Even if he's on strong juice he still has to care what he does to his body before he breaks it.
@@javorgeorgiev6130 I think you're right, it's just not worth it for him to go all out all the time. He'd get burnt out. Doesn't he still have like 5 minutes+ on second place anyway after today?

Where is Sepp Kuss super form from last year? Crazy Vingegaard is the main Jumbo Visma man he deserves it tho

Both answers are correct, but there's a third answer. Unfortunately, he's also the ultimate trigger for a new USADA/Armstrong style investigation into how clean the sport currently is. There's an old saying which applies here.... if it seems too good to be true it usually is. 100% there would be people in the drug testing arena today thinking to themselves "This doesn't add up... all the data indicates these guys (not just van Aert) are dirty, but on what? I’m from Denmark so i might be biased, but we are going to win the Tour 👁👁
We?
@@LarsRyeJeppesen yes we? I’m his littke brother
Not with Jumbo.
First of, I do not get why people claim the 2nd descend neutralizes the race. It certainly didn't for Pogacar in stage 8, right?
I think this is more a combination of team tactics and inexperience: If Vingegaard (or his team) would have known he can put time in Pogacar, he probably would have started his acceleration earlier. Ideally, arriving at the top of Mont Ventoux only a few seconds behind WvA, so they can hammer a mad decent, put more time into Pogacar and everyone else and go for the stage win. With the time separations as they were at the mountain top, that was not possible.
Also, I think we may have to revise the saying "doing a Moviestar". I think it really comes down to Carapaz not being able to properly communicate. I do not blame him for not having the legs: He has attacked and tried a lot. But he must say so in the team meeting. And I have the feeling (from the Moviestar documentary and the anecdotal evidence with INEOS) they cannot honestly admit they do not have the form (maybe it's not what real men do, no idea). Heck, INEOS lost a crucial guy for literally nothing. If I was Rowe, I would probably be like "Yeah... fuck this, INEOS has to up may pay for this shit".
If Vingegaard had caught Ellisonde and Mollema just before the summit of Ventoux the gc would be completely different right now.
The 80kg guy attacking and dropping the 54kg guy on Mont Ventoux after nearly outsprinting Cavendish yesterday. What even is cycling nowadays? Loool
🤣
Let's not exaggerate. Exploded is what happened to Gaudu. And he was able to catch Vinegaard on the descent. maybe a wee crack or maybe he just decided to conserve energy as the top was in sight followed by a long descent
Not sure what all the buzz is about... Pogacar caught him at the end! A drop is a drop, but the finish line is what matters.
second post. Pogi knew that he could catch Vingegaard on the descent
What's happening to Jumbo's climbing domestique?
I don’t want to offend nobody, but FDJ best moment in the GT season was Valter’s 3 day in pink. 😂
Can someone explain me what the heck is going through Alaphilippe's mind when he's riding in a break. Does he attack so early just to please the french crowd knowing that he probably won't win or does he really think that his early solo breaks are gonna work on a 200 km mountain stage? If he didn't burn all his matches so early, I think that he could possibly win this type of stage.
"They are taking him to win TDF " This phrase always makes me smile. He is good, really good but not to win Tour de France
Proud Dane! 🇩🇰🎉
Ineos did a Movistar today
I think oconner was put in the wrong position on the second time up mount vontuex. He was on pogacars wheel. I don't think he would have to push as many watts if he was at the back of the group apart from the crosswind. Plus no one was behind him so when he cracked he was the only one who did at that point. A better strategy would have to follow pogcar from the line order of riders then slow down to separate pogcar and the group. Regardless oconner is showing he can be one of the best and shows he wants to fight for a podium position. I'm surprised ag2r didn't suggest another strategy he very unlikely to be on the podium now. I heard also that the group of riders suggested thats where you should ride. But he got the short end of the stick they caged him in so he couldn't disturb the group.
Why is no one talking about WvA having his appendix removed to lose a bit of weight to help him go quicker up hill?
crazy how bad Patrick's mic sounds, when you compare to the audio these days
While Tadej was in difficulty there was no need to chase Jonas as he knows he has a lot of time in the bag so no need go too deep and affect his form for the rest of the tour. The next 2 days he can sit tight and look to recover. Only INEOS can really do any damage on the flat stages to put Tadej in trouble if there are crosswinds etc. While there are no guarantees most of GC teams firepower have been decimated. Unless Tadej has a bad day this years TdF is pretty much sewen up.
