  • Today marks the final mountain stage of the race and the final opportunity for the climbers to gain time ahead of the final TT. Despite only a few appearances, the climb of Hautacam has achieved a legendary status due to the performances of Bjarne Riis and Vincenzo Nibali. Who will add to its legacy today?

      Unwritten rule in cycling that you don't attack on a crash. If you are going to win, you are going to win man to man. If you win by taking advantage of such instances, you didn't really win.

    Jonas is a class act, so glad he waited with sportsmanship. In the end it eliminates any questions, and hey one person can't beat a team, just how it works. Nice to know some people do the right thing because it's the right thing.

      I just wish he'd put down his phone as Pogacar comes round to congratulate him. I mean - no matter who's on the other end, I wish he'd demonstrate the respect to pardon himself, set the phone aside and fully acknowledge Pogacar's congratulations. sheesh. Twice he's done it. I'll be shocked if Pogacar ever makes that effort again. "Why bother? He's on some far more important phone call-!"

    Best TDF in years.
    Vingegaard and Pogacar's rivalry and respect for eachother is on another level. Both are true champions and we are in for a treat the coming years 👍

      If one looks at them as teammates, then they REALLY did the evil to Thomas and all the rest lol.
      Thomas is 8 mins back in 3rd and 4th+ are 11+ minutes back. That is a HUGE margin.
      Really tells the story of all the people that got flat out murdered in the battle between Vingegaard and Pogacar.

      I agree. Best TDF in years!! What a very impressive show of sportsmanship and respect on behalf of Vingegaard today!!! A TRUE champion and gentleman!! For some reason I feel that Pogi would NOT have done what he did today. Something tells me Pogi would have continued descending at speed. I could be wrong but we will never know. I'm old school and believe in the old school ways and you should not attack on a mechanical or a crash BUT part of me also feels like if you crash on a descent on YOUR OWN it is YOUR OWN fault therefore it is OK to continue at speed. I'm honestly a bit torn about this one but I'm just not sure Pogi would have done the same. I feel he would have continued descending at speed.

    Glad to see that Vingegaard stopped to wait. Good sportsmanship. Haven’t been able to watch much of this year’s TdF but it’s been a good one. Seems like a lot of the stages had a very speedy pace. Can’t wait to see them ride the Champs Elysee. 🚴🚴🚴

    Just for the note : Van Aert has already spent more than 800 km (!) in breakaways since the begin of TdF. It's so unreal, especially considering he's wearing the green jersey. That man is out of this world

    WvA. A man, a machine, greater than the sum of the parts. What an honour to watch the TDF. JV and TP the epitome of sportsmanship and respect. This should be shown in all schools and sports training camps as the highest standard to aspire to.

    I can’t believe what I watched today, absolutely the best display of sportsmanship I’ve seen in my almost 40 years on this planet. This TDF has delivered beyond expectation, I’m so pumped for the final stages. Win lose or draw for anyone it’s us the fans who have won. Bravo cycling.

    Probably one of the best editions of Tour de France ever. The GC excitement, the sportsmanship and obvious mutual respect between great athletes, the passion of the crowd. Marvellous stuff!

    What even IS Wout van Aert, I kept laughing in disbelief every time the cameras showed him climbing in the breakaway! Seriously, TJV played this stage to perfection, complete with Vingegaard being a total class act on that descent

    Pogacar's and Vingegaard's fair rivalry is a message for us all - when in a spot of trouble and someone is there to help even if it might inconvenience them, the kind gesture can benefit the futures of both down the proverbial road.

    Would have liked to see WvA win the stage and the mountains classification. Feel like deserved this win as a reward for all the hard work he put in for the team the last couple of weeks. A rider winning both the green Jersey by a small 500 points AND the polka dot jersey in the same tour, is unprecedented in modern day cycling.

      We don't call him a sprinter in Belgium. Like Tom Boonen, he is fast because he is so powerful but more than a sprinter for sure. A pure sprinter does beat him on a flat stage most likely (Jakobsen,Groenewegen)

    I don't know if it's the time I grew up in but the image at 3:20 is unbelieveable! I grew up with green jersey holders like Robbie McEwen struggling up the mountains and arriving just inside the time limit to maintain the jersey. Wout van Aert is a machine! It appears he can do everything. I hadn't watched the TdF in years until this years edition and from the highlights on GCN it appears one of the best editions ever

      last year he won Mont Ventoux, a sprint stage and a time trial, too.
      this year he won the Green jersey for himself plus the Yellow for his team.
      he is special.

    Amazing display of sportsmanship and respect to allow Pogacar to catch up and resume his position after a spill. Vingegaard could have picked up at least another minute if he had continue to ride. At the end Vingegaard wants to win as a gentleman instead of taking advantage of some misfortune... If the world could follow such gentlemanly, respectful sportsmanship -then the world would be in a more peaceful coexistence.. Maybe politicians could take note of how Vingegaard Danish value on humility, fairness, respect, honor could rule humanity. Fabulous example for youngsters to follow suit

      @@kenkaniff8428 at the end of the day, true sportsmanship and fair competitor would have waited. Although crashing is one's own mistake, but to allow Pogacar to regain his position will be one of the best example of gentlemanly ultimate sportsmanship.

    I love seeing riders wait ESPECAILLY when their rivals didn't wait for them. I think Tom Dumoulin waited for Nairo Quintana in the Giro few years ago even after Nairo and his team refused to wait for him. Hat's off to Vingegaard!

      @@Alpehuedk Hard to tell if it was just timing or what but when Vingegaard's wheels almost went out from under him on the descent and he had to unclip, Pogacar launched an attack. You could argue that he couldn't see him but you could also argue that he could hear him. He was definitely trying to put the pressure on and hoping for Vingegaard to make a misstep.

    Has a participant in the 1984 Olympic Road Race, I am happy with the level of competition in this year's Tour De france. Great sportsmanship, family-like togetherness in the peloton. I am enjoying the race.

      I feel bad for Geschke. He was closing gaps trying to make it to the getaway group, but not a teammate in sight to help him. All he needed was 4 th place on d'Aubisque.

    Jonas and Poga are not just amazing riders, but also amazing humans, great athletes and so much respect for each other. These two guys are just the best of the best, high-class sportsmanship and the best talent. I am so thankful and lucky to being able to see the best riders the Tour the France has have in 100yrs and I am not exaggerating, just look at the time gaps in the GC contenders WoW.

    Wow! I never expected this stage to finish like this. Pogacar is human after all. But great to see he and Vingegaard are friendly and respect each other & sportsmanship. And van Aert rode the stage of his career! Excellent TDF this year, and I really appreciate these highlight videos, as I just don't have the time to watch full stages anymore like I could back in the 1980s and 90s.

    Crazy TdF so far, really digging it. Glad to see TJV finally having some success albeit I was hoping for Roglic to get his redemption. WvA is too strong, but a bit disappointed that VdP isn't there to challenge on some of these punchy stages.

      It would never have been possible for Roglic to win he’s not close to Vingegaards level when they have to climb for real, but to help the team he would have been important. I like Roglic too and he’s a world class rider, but i don’t believe that he’s good enough to win the TDF not as long there is a Vingegaard and Pogacar!!!

    Really good sportsmanship by Vingegaard after Pogacar‘s fall. Nevertheless it was probably the nail in the coffin of Pogacar‘s dreams to win the tour once more. However if we are realistic the chances were already very slim after yesterday and Vingegaard was incredible.

      What a very impressive show of sportsmanship and respect on behalf of Vingegaard today!!! A TRUE champion and gentleman!! For some reason I feel that Pogi would NOT have done what he did today. Something tells me Pogi would have continued descending at speed. I could be wrong but we will never know. I'm old school and believe in the old school ways and you should not attack on a mechanical or a crash BUT part of me also feels like if you crash on a descent on YOUR OWN it is YOUR OWN fault therefore it is OK to continue at speed. I'm honestly a bit torn about this one but I'm just not sure Pogi would have done the same. I feel he would have continued descending at speed.

    Re-watching this I noticed Vingegaard didn't actually slip on gravel. He put his inside foot down on the turn and caught his toe on the pavement. Even the pros can make a rookie mistake.

      Yeah, they were really pushing each other. Jonas rushed the pedalling just a fraction of a second there, and Pog mistimed the turn and made another rookie mistake of trying to turn the wheel while sliding in gravel. Thankfully they both got out of it!

      Yes. In this situation, I think not simple rookie-type mistake, but more a demonstration of how close to the edge he and Pog are in competing --- that he's trying to resume pedaling before coming far enough out of that curve.
