Why can't we just have a nice comments section where people give the respect both of these riders deserve, they both love racing each other and make each other better year by year. Us fans are lucky
I sincerely believe that we fans are currently privileged because we are watching one of the best rivalries in the history of this wonderful sport.I am serious Pogacar and Vingigegaard are already and will be remembered as true champions not only for the show they put on when they play against each other but also on an individual level as cyclists enhanced because .The weakness of one is the strength of the other. Vingegaard he is the best climber in the world and stands out in the high mountains but he doesn't have that explosiveness when it comes to attacking that Pogacar has .And also how they approach the season pogacar is someone who has the talent to be very strong and win the whole season. on the other hand Vingegaard bets everything to be the strongest rider in the most important race of the year the Tour de france something that this year unfortunately for him has not been possible. But I have no doubt that with an ideal preparation next year he will come back stronger than ever to try to win it again. Also their rivalry exceeds the road because in media terms they are two radically opposite figures.
Pogacar is definitely the better overall cyclist, but I can't think of any grand tour rivalry ever that was so well balanced. The classical rivalries that come to my mind did basically all have a challenger and a rider that was clearly superior looking at the whole timeframe.
Another rivalry thats amazing.. is between Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel. Both dominating in cyclocross and later in all the classics. They have been riding versus each since they were like 14 or some. I love these type of rivalry's. It usually makes both of them better because of each other. Like Ronaldo and Messi. Sports rivalry is so awsome right!? ❤
In 2023 it felt like Vingegaards level was ridiculous, but Pogacars level in 2024 is simply unprecedented in cycling history. Never seen anything even remotely like it and I've watched the Tour De France since around 1990.
Absolutely correct on one point, wrong on another. Racing is not just the TDF, it is the Classics, the minor classics, the minor tours AND the Track! Pog is far superior a racer to Jonas, just plain fact. But neither are complete racers like Merckx, Coppi, Hinault, etc, they raced track as well. Oh, and the one day races are classics, not monuments. Milan SanRemo, Paris Roubaix, Ghent Wevelghem, Tour of Flanders, Paris Tours, Liege Bastogne Liege, Tour of Lombardy, Bordeaux Paris (now defunct). Only one rider has won the 7 (exclude B Paris), Rik Van Looy, Merckx won 6, never won Paris Tours. Pog has won classics, is always a threat in any of them, Jonas is never a threat in classics, mainly because he never races them. Apart from 2 TDF's what else has he won? Pog is the best racer in the last 20 years.
@@soyHapns We can compare them - against each other they raced 150 times. The result is 120/30 for Tadej and even that is a big difference considering that Jonas doesn't race one day races. On the other hand thank god that Jonas is here because we would watch another Giro at TDF without Jonas in the mix.
@@nazgulzg Comparing them on all the races they competed in is irrelevant , no one does that it's not a relevant statistic. The position they ended up at every single stages doesn't matter. We should look at the overall standings and or any head head finish stages. As I said pogacar is better overall rider and would have the stats proving that, but no need to inflate the statistics for the sake of it
@@soyHapns Ok, we can do that too. They raced 16 races against each other (without DNS/DNF) and the result is 13/3 for Pogacar (I exluded the races where Tadej or Jonas were DNF/DNS). And again, Jonas doesn't participate much in one day races where Pogacar is much stronger. And if that's not enough lets see finishing position (as you said) from those 16 races against each (less is more so, 1st place - 1 point, 50th place - 50 points): 54/440 for Pogacar which means cumulative position from all those 16 races they raced against each other was - 3rd place for Pogacar / 27th place for Vingegaard.

Right now it is Pogi, mostly based on his classics victories. But anyone thinking that the duel is over doesn’t know their cycling history. These two are not in the same league. 3-2 Tours, 1-0 Giros, 17-4 Tour stage wins. A shitload of Classics vs absolute zero. Not fair to Jonas to compare him to the GOAT in the making.
Pogacar is a better cyclist but this is a real grand tour rivalry, Vingegaard can beat Pogi over 3 weeks when basically no one else can. Remco is more similar to Tadej, in that he can race classics and 1 day races, but Tadej beats him in every respect except TT.

The thing that impresses me the most with Jonas is the fact that he never really blew up during any tdf, he never lost 4/5mn like pogacar did 2 times already. On the other hand Pogacar's ability to bounce back from a poor day is really impressive too
@@lukasullrich705 Not really true, pogacars attacks are visually more impressive, they both go deep in their efforts and their ability to suffer from it is incredible but vingegaard can cope better than pogacar
I believe that Pogacar has more potential than Jonas. Jonas never really does anything wrong; he's very disciplined and races very intelligently (kind of boring though). Tadej attacks all the time, chases everything, and forgets to eat sometimes and bonks -- and yet they've been pretty competitive with one another. Tadej was much smarter in this year's tour and he was unstoppable. FWIW, I also think that it was a pretty even playing field between Jonas and Tadej this year. Jonas had the crash, but Tadej had the fatigue of pretty full classics campaign and a dominant Giro.

im more amazed at vinegaurd just by his paper thin body stature. From the outside looking in you would not think he is strong but weak by lacking muscle, body fat, body mass. Does he just have a natural gift or is it years of training?
Love Jonas but it's Tadej all the way!! The fact that 2 of his 3 TdFs he basically won without a team, meanwhile Jonas needed a superteam (and I LOVE Jumbo) is all the proof you need. There is NO rivalry, Pog is simply orders of magnitude better than Vino. Look at their records, Pog has won 6 monuments (plus many classics and a 3rd at the world) Vino has none of these wins. Vino won 2 TdF over Pog because of circumstances (Roglic and Pog's injury). Pog exists in the most rare of worlds, where only Merckx is subject to comparison.
Why compare Pogi to a doper like Merckx? He deserves better than that. And no one is saying Pogi isn't the better overall rider; it's just fascinating what happens when he faces a pure GC rider like Vingegaard. Would you rather be without this rivalry in the grand tours? Pogi just trampling over everyone like this year's Giro? For cycling, it's important to have both a Pogi and a Vingegaard
2022 Vinge wins over pogi with no roglic he dropped him big time in 2 mountain stages and cruised the last TT the last 3 k while celebrating. It was not just team as some still talk about today(definately not just circumstances the watts dont lie). 2023 pogi might have suffered from a crash but not that much as he put up his best performances at that time in the first 2 weeks. 2024 Vingegaard crashes, but pogi also hits a over 5% improvement in his climbing at the same time from all his former 5 years at UAE. So far Vinge has had superiority in the mountains it might have changed now, as Vingegaard is getting older and pogi is in his prime, but vingegaard also broke all records on stage 15 like pogacar, despite his crash, no way of knowing how good he would have been without the crash, which was a horror crash compared to pogis last year. Vingegaard in 2023 also won everything he touched, all from gran camino, Dauphine, Tour of basque, and the tdf as well as the vuelta except he gifted first place to his teammate and took second instead. This year he did the same up until the crash, Won Grand camino, and Tirreno Adriatico. What Pogi does is he can also win 1 day races. Vingegaard wins the stage races. So pogacar has an extra strength compared to vingegaard but at least the 2021-2023 Jonas has then had his strentgh at a higher level than pogis - the mountains.
I hate to be that guy, but the audio sounds quite off. Might be worth reuploading it? Otherwise this is a great and accurate video. Excellent story telling!
GOAT is the current buzz word…..but how do we measure this? It happens in all elite sport people are so quick to label athletes rather than offer support and respect for their achievements. I respect all the hard work all those athletes and their support crews put in to win anything. Personal domination is almost always a product of hard work, we should never underestimate their dedication and what they give up to be one of the best.
For the people who say Jonas is just a one trick pony because he doesn’t do classics, you need to remember he is a pure 58 kg climber, while Pogacar is nearly 10 kg heavier ; they aren’t that similar in body type and racing abilities, the same way MVDP and WVA aren’t that similar either (MVDP is a better classic and cx racer, but he couldn’t be the leader in points and KOM jersey in a GT)
@@Mase251 enjoy the sport or don't watch it... i doubt you comment the same shit under every athletics post or think the same way when you watch the UFC. Or you think that every referee is legit in football, etc...

Last year I agreed that while Jonas was the best GT rider, Pogacar was obviously the best overall rider ; this year though his perfs are so suspicious that I can’t no longer believe in him nor his team… and UAE has so much money that I guess that nothing will ever be revealed (at least as long as they are in cycling circuit)
@@GaiusPrimusMatius no, it can’t… the perf level and money available at UAE are totally on another level, not even comparable… not once did Pogacar look tired after finishing a stage where he obliterated everybody, not even after 2 GTs… he progressed both in strength and endurance, which should be impossible… his progression from last year is way too suspicious when he was already at a very high level…
You forgot to mention Pogacar came into the 2023 Tour with an injury... you all revel in his loss in 2023... but that year Pogacar was recovering.. very hypocritical
I don't think Pogi spent 12 days in hospital with the wrist injury but other than that your point is valid. It should be mentioned but Vingegaard suffered a Bernal-like crash where there were serious doubts as to whether he could return to this level. That's why it's so impressive what he did this year
Did he? It was all kept hush hush.. It'd be interesting to see what TUE were filed, if any, along with the full list of drugs administered in the hospital and during his recovery process.

Tadej is more well-rounded, and is the better overall rider. Jonas is the better grand tour rider. Tadej is more explosive. Jonas has a stronger steady pace.
@@user1qaz2wsx3edc stage 11 of this year's tour highlighted Jonas' one advantage over Pogacar. Pogacar's strategy at every mountain stage is to save energy until the end and then blast to the finish. But in stage 11, the finish was near the end of a cat 3 climb, finishing off with a 3km climb. Unfortunately, Jonas having to ride after an injury and with a compromised team makes comparisons more difficult than they should be. The absence of Sepp Kuss was especially noticeable. He was a key domestique in the two previous tours, forcing the peloton into very uncomfortable speeds during the mountain stages. His pace contributed to Pogacar to imploding in the mountains two years in a row. This year, not only was Pogacar in the best condition of his life, he arguably also had the best team of domestiques in the entire peloton.

Putting Ayuso in the same level than Remco is criminal xD very good video tho!
Thank you!
Pog is just more fun to watch. Until Jonas starts winning Monuments it's not even a discussion.

Two champions, but it’s like comparing Froome to Merckx. Both are super-humans, but one is clearly Superman, and it’s Tadej
Pog can do it in any race at any time of the year 👌
We are gifted to have such a duel every year in cycling, I think Pogi is the best rider in the peleton, he is super well rounded and can win almost every race. But I think Vingegaard is the best GC rider.
Tadej is definetely most interesting and funny person of all cycling world!🤩
Please don't compare remco with pogacar and Jonas....they are class apart....❤

Pogi no contest. He can do all. Amazing rider 👏👏👏

Last year I agreed that while Jonas was the best GT rider, Pogacar was obviously the best overall rider ; this year though his perfs are so suspicious that I can’t no longer believe in him nor his team… and UAE has so much money that I guess that nothing will ever be revealed (at least as long as they are in cycling circuit)
..the same could be be said about Jonas and his team... Don't u think so?...

I don't think Pogi spent 12 days in hospital with the wrist injury but other than that your point is valid. It should be mentioned but Vingegaard suffered a Bernal-like crash where there were serious doubts as to whether he could return to this level. That's why it's so impressive what he did this year

Tadej is more well-rounded, and is the better overall rider. Jonas is the better grand tour rider. Tadej is more explosive. Jonas has a stronger steady pace.
You live on Mars?Reminder: pogacar won 3 tdf.and giro.
Watching Pogacar destroy the tour was very entertaining, but I also feel like we were robbed of a good rivalry this year. Hopefully, next year will be more exciting, with Jonas in full health and Remco on the come up.
You forgot to mention that Jonas 1st sport was football(which he wasnt good enough), so went into cycling, much like Roglic whos 1st sport was skiing jumping, they both were desperate to become a sportsman in any sport, at least Pogachar has cycling at heart and not just a cash cow, and enjoys it weatger he wins or not, he dosnt cry for fans
Vingegaard stopped playing football when he was still a young boy and realized he was much better at cycling 😂 wouldn't call that desperate

But I can tell you Michael Valgren once worked at that same fish factory. Lots of cyclists have part time jobs when they're young
this is not a lucrative sport. putting in 10-15 years to get paid at best a few million a year--assuming you're a gc winner or classics winner-- is inefficient if you're looking for money. chances are you'll be a no name domestique for that same amount of work but be paid at best 60-100k. all of them do it for the sport, not the money.
