  • Hi Everyone,
    Today I wanted to talk about one of my favourite tetras, the Kerri Tetra.
    Kerri Tetras, aka royal tetras aka emperor tetras, latin name Inpaichthys Kerri are a stunning medium sized tetra that can be easily bred in the home aquarium, have a stunning purple or blue sheen to them and come in a variety of colour morphs.
    Hope you enjoy this guide.

    The black emperor tetras are really nice. A little tip regarding their 2 different eye colors...the males have the metallic blue while the females have the metallic green eyes :)

    The black ones and the one in the title photo aren’t Kerri’s, just Emperor Tetras (Nematobrycon palmeri)

      I came here to say this, there are 2 different species of "emperor" featured in his video. Impachthys species do not have the tail fin extensions, nematobrycon do.

      I find these to be the most confused fish I have found in the hobby.
      The Royal Tetra is Inpaichthys kerri where as the Emperor Tetra is Nematobrycon palmeri.
      Videos like this only add to the confusion.

    Hi, you mixed up 2 different species.
    The emperor tetra, which is bigger, can come in a black variety, has no adipose fin, and can be sexed by the eye color and fin extension.
    The king tetra, which is smaller, can come in a super blue variety, has adipose fin, and can be sexed by the color of the adipose fin.
    Best regards

    • @BlakesAquatics
      @BlakesAquatics  3 роки тому

      Hey, i keep king tetras as well. Maybe my accent meant you were confusing me saying 'kerri' with king?

    • @blucenere
      @blucenere 3 роки тому +3

      @@BlakesAquatics hi, I am sorry, i am not referring to the accent.
      The fish on the video cover, as well as the black one or the ones at 3:28 or 1:53 are palmeri, not kerri.
      The kerri are the ones at 3:14 and 4:15
      You can recognize it easily because the kerri has a small fin between the dorsal and the caudal, while the palmeri does not

    • @blucenere
      @blucenere 3 роки тому +1

      @@BlakesAquatics nothing bad in having them in the same tank, but if you are talking about kerri and show pics or clips of palmeri, it gets confusing

    • @BlakesAquatics
      @BlakesAquatics  3 роки тому

      Neither are called king tetras, king tetras are also known as cochu tetras. In Aus, palmeri and kerri are sold as emperor tetras, the video is on emperor tetras, and a lot of people would buy either version from a retailer under the description emperor tetra (black) or emperor tetra. Agreed though I should have referenced kerri AND palmeri

    • @Giobemo
      @Giobemo Рік тому +2

      @@BlakesAquatics In the US, the palmeri are called emperor tetras while the kerri get an annoyingly varied qualifier (blue emperor, purple emperor, royal emperor, regal emperor, kerri emperor) or are just called Kerri tetras. And yea, there are some who call them "king" tetras, but that seems to have been started by those who called them emperor tetras in the beginning before learning there already was an emperor, so they made something up (they thought). If you want to go back and tell them there's already a king tetras too, I'd love to see their faces! 😁

    Hey Blake! Great video and beautiful fish! Would the emperor tetras do well in a moderate/high flow river style tank? Or do they only do well in slow water?

    • @BlakesAquatics
      @BlakesAquatics  6 місяців тому +1

      Moderate would be fine id say but they dont really want a hillstream kind of effect

    • @Fishnkitts
      @Fishnkitts 6 місяців тому

      Ok thanks Blake! Maybe not the right setup for them. The tank is a riverstyle with stiphodon gobies and a panda garra. I’m looking for a top dweller (other than WCM) that will stay up top/middle and not eat the goby’s food on the bottom bc they are such slow eaters. But maybe that is not possible 😂😢 Any other fun alternatives?

    I'm in the planning stages of a 250usg community tank. I'm really wanting to highlight one particular fish. It will be fully planted and the water where I'll be living is quite hard and ph around 7.9. Yes I'll have lot's of corys, probably fairy corys and some loaches, such the true golden zebra loach. Emperors are great, but the water isn't suitable. What are some fish you'd consider in a school of say 60 or so, in a tank that size?

      That is true of the Emperor Tetras (Nematobrycon palmeri) in this video. Also the males have a trident tale.
      Just to be clear there are two different species of fish being portrayed as the same species in this video.
      The Royal Tetras (Inpaichthys kerri) do not have blue or green eyes nor trident tails.
      These two species are commonly confused throughout the hobby.
