I often wonder what would happen if the Sindar of Doriath, the Laiquendi, the Dwarves of the Misty Mountains as well as Nogrod, and even the Avari got in on the action. And just to comment on your final thought regarding the differences between The Children of Hurin and The Silmarillian regarding the outcome of the battle, in the Silmarillian, it's mentioned that it was believed by the Eldar that they could have won had all their hosts stayed true. That was the vanity of the Elves in thinking that they could ever have defeated Morgoth and harkens back to the death of Feanor where, with foresight of death, he knew that no power of the Noldor could have overcome Morgoth. Yet as he died, he bound his sons to the oath so they would fight a hopeless battle. The reality is that the Elves, with all their might and all their allies, would still fall before the might of Morgoth. They were, afterall, the children of Illuvatar, but standing against them, were the Ainur, both Valar and Maiar.
I like the Silmarillion version better. It's just a more existing story if there is a glimpse of false hope. And it's a story written by Elves, so them thinking they could have won without the betrayal doesn't mean they actually could, it's their perspective.
You narration is amazing. I'm loving your videos!! One thing though, Hurin dropped his shield and picked up the axe of a fallen Orc captain. And with this axe, he cut down 70 enemies. Many of them from the troll guard of Gothmog, leader of the Balrogs. So many in fact, that the blade smoked with the blood of the troll guard until it withered. Morgoth had ordered his troops to take Hurin alive so they tried and he cut off their hands until he was buried in the corpses of his foes. That's when Gothmog bound him and took him back to Angband.
I wonder how Tolkien's WWI experience fighting among many allies against the Germans in huge battles where the attacker generally took ruinous casualties influenced his descriptions of these mythical fights.
