Amazing! Always good to see another high-miler Genesis! I have the early non-GDI 3.8 which is now 15 years old and at 320,000 miles - and I’m never getting rid of mine either!
@@paulmiller4059 Yes. There is a known issue with the tensioner that makes the timing chain make noises at cold startups, but I've never had issues with timing or anything else. once you are done with maintenance, add transmission oil cooler to it and lets do custom ECU / TCU tune, you will be amazed how drastically car will change, how responsive and powerful it will get on 93 or even tune it for full E85 fuel. we can optimize power, throttle responsiveness, Fan settings for better cooling, fuel economy on light trottle, adjust rpm and speed limiters. basically transform car to a real monster same time maintaining safety and reliability.
I was on your website and there's no info on what kind of hp gains are to be expected...$650 is alot and I wa t to know what I'm getting for the tune instead of vague stuff about responsiveness etc.
Thanks for the video, I have r5 spec 2013. This beast wraps 430hp. With meticulous tires and brakes, this car can move and shake. I spent here and there, but as the author points out it is a super low maintenance cost luxury sports car. For me leather is cool but not for occasional dog and wear and tear. It does not last forever. Air and electronics do mess up, and plain electrical contacts are also not super durable. But the engine is just an incredible V8. Transmission is ok but it is slowly giving up. Still 180k is pretty good. I had a lot of fun with this car...
You know me as a loyal fan because we've had the same exact Genesis for years together, same exact year, 5.0L R-Spec with Black Pearl paint..... we've even chatted online about advanced stock trading on some of of your live chats....but I can't thank you enough for this video. I feel the same exact loyalty to this car. I've owned multiple Mustang GT 5.0's in the past....and I still love a good high-powered GT mustang......,but this 2012 5.0L R-Spec is STILL my baby that I drive every day.....and I STILL surprise those cocky Dodge's, Camaros and Mustangs with what this sleeper can do. I think it has a lot to do with that first & second gear (granny gears) in her 8-speed transmission. Those two gears will jerk you into the backseat!! I would love to have the funds to put a high performance blower on this engine....at that point those young kids wouldn't know what to do when they see me blow by them with a luxury sleeper....lol. Maybe someday the California tect's will come up with a blower kit for this engine!! I mean come'on....the Tau 5.0L is the same engine as the Mustang 5.0L engine. ..... In fact the Korean engineers got with the engineers at Ford to make the same engine for the Genesis!
I honestly knew that. I was told the 5.0L is derived from Mitsubishi. In any case, I am on my second Genesis 5.0. My first one was a 2015 and now have the 2018 G80 5.0 with AWD. Absolutely love this car that I turned around and got another one. I am going to look into the Ford and Hyundai 5.0 collaboration and should be real interesting. I was introduced to Genesis by the help of this guy, and another UA-camr.
My 2014 Hyundai Equus Ultimate just hit 280k miles. Very minor repairs. Original engine and transmission. Love this car, and it's crazy reliable. I've done a few upgrades on mine as well.
Fingers crossed on my 2011 4.6 for the door lock situation. Bought it with just under 102k and we’re approaching 147k now. Only issue I’ve had with them so far is my passenger front door has gotten sticky a couple times for whatever reason, but they’re all good at the moment. One things for sure though, I’m glad we don’t have the same winter problems down here in Alabama. 😅 dropped a decent chunk of change over the past few months to get my exhaust done and I’d be upset if I got under the car and saw it looking like that.
Just hit 130k on my 2011 4.6 need lower control arms have intermittent back up camera issues and I think my dis knob for the infotainment has went out so that’s lame but other that has been going strong !!!
@@slowdailyyeah same on my 5.0 rspec the passenger door gets sticky, has its days or locking/unlocking on command, the windows like to get stuck randomly and then fix itself later lol and I’m at 89k
Decided to come back to this im currently sitting at 155k miles on my 11 4.6 genesis still running perfectly I think I need to get my ac serviced by passenger ac seems to be much cooler than The drivers side now 🤔
I’m about 200k miles, only replaced the HVAC blower motor (20 min job). Base model 2013. No transmission issues (never serviced) and no oil burning. Flawless.
I still have my 2013 5.0 R Spec with 128,000 miles. And I love the car. The paint on the car is not good quality, but I got it retouched, and it looks great. I will need to replace the coilovers, but other than that, everything still works great. I don't drive it as much, so it should last me for another 10-15years. Hopefully 😅

2011 4.6 6 speed Tech package 2 year ownership I did the brembo swap and have done some crazy shot to this car and im planning on a widebody next and air suspension, comfort wise fucking love it. super quiet and very great audio system, stupid amazing gas mileage and overall ride comfort. colorado has shit roads and i only really complain on bumpy roads. im on 20 inch rubber bands with a lil more meat. regarding the brembo swap it feels like I have cut my braking distance in half. kinda noisy but kind've cool too. car turns head and Ive had a blown alternator, cracked sunroof rail, mirror turn signal stop working[have part lazy to fix] sometimes the windows dont go up or down it happens randomly never lasts longer than 5 seconds. my front right has 0.7 degrees of camber so some maintenance is needed their suspension wise after 100k miles the car has very good everything except slight bushing cracks on the lower control arms. tranny slips rarely when cold only once from 3rd to 4th and Ive put subs in this boat and shaked the panels off. planning to force induce this car and drive it till the frame bends. love it would buy another. never ate a drop of oil every oil change. synthethic mobil one every 5k. this car rips for the price and its a very great daily.
I have 80k on mine and a lot of same issues: front passenger power door lock doesn't work, nav button is intermittent/doesn't work. Also have faded paint/peeling clearcoat on the plastic components (bumpers). With that said I'm still generally happy with it
Love to hear this, i have had 3 genesis and 1 equus. My only complaint is with the v6. Ive had two that have had shifting issues and slamming gears between 2nd and 3rd gear. Its more common with the v6 but can happen on the v8. Anybody who is considering a older genesis especially a v6, please be aware that the transmission slipping is a common problem. My 2012 genesis 3.8 is having this issue currently so I'm looking at updating with a g80 or g90 even though i love the older model.
I'm a 6 month owner of a 2011 4.6 97k miles for only $8k OTD. I was only looking for something cheap and reliable that could tow my jet ski 10 miles to the ramp. Now I'm obsessed! Recently got 31 mpg on a 100 mile country back road trip driving gently, but not hypermiling. How is everything this car can do possible for the price lol? About to do a DIY trans flush (let it pump out old fluid through cooler lines as I top the pan off) with Red Line D6.
I purchased my V6 Genesis April 2012. I have 235,348 miles. I live north of Atlanta Ga. I replaced the spark plugs at 200,000 miles. The plugs looked in good shape. I change antifreeze at 100,000 and 200,000... I change the BELT at 200,000, My hand on a bible I could not tell the old one from the new one. ZERO cracks. It does burn 2 quarts of OIL between changes.... The car ride is still smooth. I had the brakes replaced at 150,000 miles .. No other parts replaced on the car/ ALL work on this Genesis was completed at the dealership. If anyone want to verify my auto history . I will give permission for the dealership to release the information
2013 rspec with 70k miles. I have owned the car for 10 years. Driver side mirror doesn't fold in anymore, and of course, the alternator went out. Since then, the TPMS light is on, which I'm told is a bad receiver unit. That part is unavailable from the dealer. We use the car as a weekend driver, and most miles have come from 1000 plus miles vacation trips. Gas mileage is great. 28 miles to the gallon on our last trip. Awesome car!!!
I have a 2011 8cyl Genesis. I've had 2 problems. 1st, the round control knob for radio and navigation went out just as you described. 2nd, and a much bigger problem. My ABS brake censor on one wheel has gone out multiple times, which cause the brakes to lock up...generally requiring a tow. Would love your input on that problem. Now I have no confidence in the car and just use it for short trips.
Loved the video! SUGGESTION Needed: I found this 2015 Genesis 5.0 for $12000. It is around 155,000 miles on it. Should I buy it? I believe the car had 3 recalls for its multi-fuse, I am guessing its because of electronics. You all recommendation will be much appreciated thanks!
My genny DIS knob did the same thing. The plastic mounts underneath it broke so the knob was pushing the whole switch assembly and not the switch itself. Try and pull the knob off and use the switch without it to see if that’s the problem.
I miss my 2010 4.6 with 170k miles but there was a mishap with the parking brake so it has an uneven, bumpy ride at slow speeds. My dad plans on getting it checked out in the future
Have my 2013 Rspec. 123000 miles now. Engine and transmission run great. issue now is the abs, auto hold and another are on. Basically no traction control and no cruise control.
Hey Extalgic, I bought a used 2009 Sedan and I just notice today that the rear tire spacing between the tire wells is narrower by half inch compare to the front? I think this makes the ride bumpy and creaks because the car is like tilted up or the back is lowered. I showed it to my mechanic and he said this is normal for this car. I beg to differ. I think the spacing should be equal for front and back tire. I really need help cause now I am noticing more creeks coming from the back I couldnt pinpoint the sources. Thanks.
Hello, great channel. I bought a R-Spec same year as yours because of your channel. I have 142,000 miles and I'm getting codes that I need to replace my camshaft position sensor. Have you had to do that?
Hey I was really hoping to ask a question about my 2011 4.6 genesis. Im replacing the radiator and trying to understand the oil cooler. It seems to go through a small radiator in the front of the car and also through the main radiator on the side. Does that seem right? How does your 5.0 R-spec compare? I have a suspicion that my oil cooler may be having problems and Im wondering if I can disconnect it from the smaller radiator in the front and run it just through the main radiator. Thanks for your time.
Also: oil consumption issue. Seems pretty severe. Seems like I fill it up a bit at least once a month. Also replaced my whole intake system because it was cheaper to buy the k900 full system on ebay than buying the single gasket that gets it to attach to throttle body. This includes the air intake filter Cabin air filter also The parking sensors don't seem to work but also the brackets came unglued from the bumper just haven't gotten around to buying the plastic welder tool. I haven't tried to get the engine walnut blasted yet. Engine and transmission seem fine overall but I'm not 100% sure if it's the original engine and transmission. Bought the car at 180k and have owned it for about 15 months. Left me stranded one time because the alternator went out.
@alljerseysmatter. yes the 4.6 and 6 speed are known more for reliability. I haven't had any issues since I've owned my 5.0 though besides alternator going out at 184k
I had a bad experience with my 2012 R-spec 5.0. The engine blew after normal changes of oil and I took care of it. I brought it around 120k and thought I can save it but I replaced the engine with the a used 5.0L that had 115k miles and that blew as well . I spent so much money . I was so upset I can’t ever go back to Genesis after that.
I have 93k on my 2012 it was manufactured in September of 2011. I’m having problems with oil consumption. Burning about a qt every 800-1000 miles. Done some research and it seems like the heat trap from all the carbon deposits plays a big roll in burning the oil. Do you think walnut blasting it would make any difference? Motor runs perfectly fine just can’t hold oil.
What exhaust would you recommend if the one you got is out of stock and possibly no longer made ? I just got. A genny with 60k 5.0 rspec I’m a cali driver so I was hoping to get that same sound on these big highways out here !!
If this car was a S-Class Mercedes or 7 Series BMW with the same amount of miles and used in the same area, he would have been financially buried with running costs, when the German cars only had less then one third of the miles on it.
I love that you still have this as your daily! I had a 2015 (different model I know) and I kinda miss it. I had it paid off, and I am single with no kids etc. So I had the itch to get something new! I knew I could afford a decent monthly payment... My big thing was NOT losing any tech. Adaptive Cruise was a must. I had an NB Miata at the time as well.... So I wanted to sell both and just have ONE car and for that car to be a convertible. Though I probably could've afforded it, I didn't want to spend 70k on a European 'vert. I actually settled on a 2020 EcoBoost Mustang. Yes a drop in luxury lolol... But really it isn't bad. Leather seats, decent speakers, all the bells and whistles - digital dash, adaptive cruise, heated steering wheel, carplay... PLUS I get to put the top down all summer!! I have winter tires on it for Minnesota winters and it works perfectly. - I have tuned it and added every bolt-on possible so I'm in the high 300rwhp. - My wants were all satified - Adaptive Cruise - Convertible - Snappy throttle and "feels" fast with all the torque. - Though I think this will be my last car for a long time, I do think about getting a G70 and tuning it to 400-500hp. That would be a blast. I work remote so I only put like 3000 miles on it a year lol
Amazing review! I have a 2013 5.0 RSPEC with 85k miles and also minimal issues. I do need new shocks and struts in front with tires not wearing even but holding on purchase. Big issue though is check engine light keeps coming on due to what code says small exhaust leak. Replaced gas cap but can’t figure it out. Any ideas? Anyone else have that issue?
Guys missed out on a buy of a 2013 5.0 r spec. Should I wait for another to pop up or move up to the 2015 5.0. What's the difference between 5.0 and a 5.0 r spec.
My 2013 genesis sedan 5.0 rspec is @136k miles right now. Florida kept, and my 0-60 is 6.5 right now. No warning lights, car drives normal but no matter how I launch it, I'm getting 0-60 in the 6's on a bone stock 5.0 rspec. Any suggestions what I can try to fix this? I'll take any and all ideas rn, I've ordered spark plugs and ignition coils. What else is good?
I've had the same issues with the DIS knob, easiest way to fix it I found, was just bonking the bageezus out of it with my palm until it unstuck itself. 😂 Sadly I don't have the luxury of just plugging my phone in, the 2012 version never got the same bluetooth support that the 2013 and later models had. Another problem I had was the window regulators, I tend to enjoy driving with my windows down, one day hit a bump and the rear driver's side window straight up fell out of the regulator and into the door panel.
Yea mee too my 2016 toyota camry i cant get past the caution or itll freeze at my radio stations.. Buttons work etcetc but sun roof to its the fuse ..those are doable things to do solo.....my genesis was only the doors but i sold it smh
this car has electrical issues had mind for like few months and the car start electrical system started dying out randomly when i put it into reverse or something like that it happened alot when i start parking the car some reason a month later it fixed itself lol.

I miss my 2010 4.6 with 170k miles but there was a mishap with the parking brake so it has an uneven, bumpy ride at slow speeds. My dad plans on getting it checked out in the future
146k on my 2012 5.0 and still going strong - Tune is coming next and looking to see if I can use HP Tuners for this
Door lock actuators are a pretty common failure with theese. Super easy to replace.
Dude I’m about to buy one cause of you
Have my 2013 Rspec. 123000 miles now.
Engine and transmission run great. issue now is the abs, auto hold and another are on. Basically no traction control and no cruise control.
Hey Extalgic,
I bought a used 2009 Sedan and I just notice today that the rear tire spacing between the tire wells is narrower by half inch compare to the front? I think this makes the ride bumpy and creaks because the car is like tilted up or the back is lowered. I showed it to my mechanic and he said this is normal for this car. I beg to differ. I think the spacing should be equal for front and back tire. I really need help cause now I am noticing more creeks coming from the back I couldnt pinpoint the sources. Thanks.
Hello, great channel. I bought a R-Spec same year as yours because of your channel. I have 142,000 miles and I'm getting codes that I need to replace my camshaft position sensor. Have you had to do that?
Good video on a very reliable car.
About to hit 190k on mine too. Going to make a drive from Virginia to Florida then Florida to Texas in 5 months. Wish me luck
Also: oil consumption issue. Seems pretty severe. Seems like I fill it up a bit at least once a month.
Also replaced my whole intake system because it was cheaper to buy the k900 full system on ebay than buying the single gasket that gets it to attach to throttle body. This includes the air intake filter
Cabin air filter also
The parking sensors don't seem to work but also the brackets came unglued from the bumper just haven't gotten around to buying the plastic welder tool.
I haven't tried to get the engine walnut blasted yet.
Engine and transmission seem fine overall but I'm not 100% sure if it's the original engine and transmission. Bought the car at 180k and have owned it for about 15 months. Left me stranded one time because the alternator went out.
Update: Car made it from Va to Fl and then to texas.
I want a K900 V8. I’m thinking about buying the 2011 Equus with the 4.6 motor, they say that engine is more reliable
@alljerseysmatter. yes the 4.6 and 6 speed are known more for reliability. I haven't had any issues since I've owned my 5.0 though besides alternator going out at 184k
@@Uber1337Nessshow bad is it burning oil? Would say 1 quart every 1k miles ?
Oil spraying a must in salt land. Have a 2012 sedan V6 with 180000km. Carbon cleans are a must.
Get an induction heater tool. It will help get anything rusty loose.
People like the Genesis
Sorry the Corvette isn't pulling the views
-
I have tuned it and added every bolt-on possible so I'm in the high 300rwhp.
-
My wants were all satified
- Adaptive Cruise
- Convertible
- Snappy throttle and "feels" fast with all the torque.
-
Though I think this will be my last car for a long time, I do think about getting a G70 and tuning it to 400-500hp.
Hi, one of your videos. You mention a spray you use on the Cabin Air Filter? Ordered from Amazon what's name of the product.
Went to a local junkyard and got navigation control module for about 29.00 dollars had it put in for 60.00 works great
Guys missed out on a buy of a 2013 5.0 r spec. Should I wait for another to pop up or move up to the 2015 5.0. What's the difference between 5.0 and a 5.0 r spec.
Would the r spec coup brimbos be a direct bolt on to 2015 5.0 non r spec sedan ? If so what years of the coup are compatible? Thanks Brother!
Will the 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 last just as long? I wanna buy one with 133,000 miles and Wanna know if it's worth
Bro try to find some treatment that you can added with new oil that called ( engine oil stop leaking) it could help you for burning oil problem
My 2012 I have an aftermarket Bluetooth adapter from Amazon, plays on aux
Hey bro I wrote in your comments a while ago when I purchased my 2014 rspec could you tell me what I need to put brembo brakes on it
What is the highest milage Genesis.5.0?
Yea mee too my 2016 toyota camry i cant get past the caution or itll freeze at my radio stations.. Buttons work etcetc but sun roof to its the fuse ..those are doable things to do solo.....my genesis was only the doors but i sold it smh
I want a Equus or K900. It seems like the 4.6 engine is more reliable than the 5.0.
Idk I seen a guy with a mildly modded 5.0 with around 600 hp and he had 200k on it with original engine and transmission
thanks for the video, any updates?
Can we get another update soon? Maybe at 250k?
I have a 2009 genesis rattle noise at start up coming from the engine..... any suggestions?
I have an 2011 4.6...Looking for a Borla Exhaust Catback
Is it true that if the interior is Tan leather that it’s not a real r spec
Is this engine and transmission reliable? And what’s the average miles these things go to?
Use some rust penetrating oil and a bigger breaker bar or a big air compressor with a air gun
I can work on it myself I just need help figuring out to get it back working again
Debating between a 12 5.0 rspec with 182k for 4k & a 09 4.6 143k for 3k? Thoughts?
09 is proven to be more reliable.
Do more about this like this care bro
So you are still running the OE starter, compressor and thermostat?
Where did you buy the OEM suspension?
Hey what's up bro how many miles on that Genesis now?
this car has electrical issues had mind for like few months and the car start electrical system started dying out randomly when i put it into reverse or something like that it happened alot when i start parking the car some reason a month later it fixed itself lol.
Damn, that thing is a tank
She really is 😤
What year gensis is this car?
How similar to the coyote is Tau 5.0?
I got same car 116k miles staggerd set up and custom welds 🥵
Good opinion
What year is the car?
Any link for the brembos swap for my r spec ?
What kind of fuel mileage do you get?
I changed my transmission fiuld at 160000km...gdi cleaning needed
I got a 2022 kia forte gt and I'm looking to buy a 5.0 genesis for my loud car
Don’t forget to change the transmission fluid
