I have owned a GV70 3.5TT for 2 months, 5,500km. Fortunately wait time was “only 3.5 months”. Car is brilliant and highly recommend the product. Agree the purchase comes with risk re service / resale etc however I have faith in Hyundai name. There is no question Genesis have some service gaps but as a new endeavour I’m sure will be ironed out over time. I completed a buyers survey and commented on a the gaps I observed, I was called by Genesis within 3 hours of completing the survey to discuss. I take that as one indicator they are serious about building a competitive service environment, they already have the product.

I bought a GV70 3.5TT Luxury in December last year, it has now done 14,000klms. Your right it is a great car. Comfortable, fast and it has a pizzaz to the interior that even my MB driving mate appreciates. I would recommend it to anyone who is not concerned with the badge on their car. My good experience with a Hyundai i30 Fastback N led me to Genesis. In the current market I could sell this car for the drive away new price I paid for it. I could then start walking more. For anyone who likes the look of them go for it.

I think you’ll be disappointed. People who can spend 100k on a car won’t buy a used car for the price of a new one. The current market has inflated prices for used cars who’s new equivalent have wait times of a year. But with 100k I could walk into bmw and buy a better car and have it in a few days. Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice car but no one is paying 100k for a second hand one.

I recently purchased my 2023 Genesis GV70 3.5 Sports Prestige Melbourne grey matte finish. Gorgeous car in all aspects. I have owned MB, BMW and Audi. The luxury in this car is unbelievable. Red interior gorgeous. The tech also is great. Took a bit getting used to with the infotainment know and the gear shift but got passed that. Drives almost like my BMW 550i . My first car was a Hyundai back in 1986 so it has been come full circle. I have received so many compliments on my car since I purchased it in Dec last year. What tipped the scale was the warranties. Hands down! Love the car!

I've had my GV70 3.5 TT for 17 months and it's been a fabulous car. Better and more luxurious than any of the Mercs or BMWS I've ever owned. As far as resale value goes, an eqivalent Merc to the Genesis is $60K cheaper. After 5 years, even if the resale is 10% to 20% less, you'll still save a fortune in the long run. By the way, Genesis is happy to bring a car to you to test drive.

Took delivery of a GV70 3.5T earlier this year. Beautiful, comfortable and unique looking car compared to my previous GLC. Its jammed-packed full of value as you say compared to the Germans without the hefty price tag. But I agree, in this competitive car market, you just can't have a good product alone to make the sales. I think they need to start marketing the brand and its products abit more along with good before and after sales customer service. Lexus is a great example of this. The experience has been good so far however. I've yet to received my first service or encountered any issues with my GV70. I love driving this car and listening to that twin turbo! 😁

In my opinion, it’s also the more exotic one, and will definitely turn heads, if that’s something you care about. Tech-wise, i think the glc might win, but what i find really nice with the gv70 is the feature that allows it to leave a very tight parking spot without you getting inside, also works the other way around. If i were you, i’d get the gv70, with the diesel motor for slightly better efficiency but the glc 300 is also not a bad pick

As a top of the line 3:5 GV70 owner for 16 months and previous owner of several BMW’s and Audis I STRONGLY disagree with you (respectfully).
Upon buying the car I was contacted to give consumer feedback. A few weeks later they needed to check something was carried out in the pre delivery inspection and picked it up in a covered flat bed, took it away and brought it back. My first service they did the same, picked it up, left me a G70, serviced and cleaned / returned (all free of charge). They have sent me a gift hamper after a year of ownership to say “thanks”.
The “Hyundai Dealership” you refer to is neither of those things and makes perfect sense. It’s a GENESIS Studio, it’s designed to promote the brand - worked for me as I visited before the GV70 was even released and was so impressed I was one of the first GV70 owners in Australia. If you can think beyond the inner bogan, Tesla have done similar things with CBD studios and is a tried and tested approach to
Branding so (again) I totally disagree that Genesis doesn’t brand themselves well.
My GV70 turns heads everyday and is by far the best car I’ve ever owned. I had a near unlimited budget and was even looking at a $200k Audi, the GV70
Makes so much sense and has been faultless.
Finally if you are advocating for paying $50k more to start with to reduce depreciation that’s an oxymoron.
    Genesis is absolutely killing it!

If Genesis marketing worked for you, then good for you
The proof of the pudding is in the eating, if the Studio method results in satisfactory sales numbers, then they will be proven right.
Personally, I think Tesla sell cars in spite of the studio methodology not because of. The Elon Musk brand does more than the shopping centre sales gimmick.
No body as far as I've read is questioning the quality of the Genesis product

John. We listened to you and bought a 2019 Sorento GT Line. Lovely car, when it works. Less than 20kms and the air con and steering (apparently a recall) have shit themselves. Kia is okay, not great, but okay. I still have my MY15 Audi A4 diesel Quattro, 65kms. Great car. We had looked into a replacement but being in Cairns we get the shaft with test driving and since COVID it’s non existent so driving 30kms to Parramatta is a small drive compared to getting on a plane to Brisbane to test drive a car. Can’t wait for this craziness to get back to normal where car makers don’t feel like they are doing me a favour to sell me a car. Regional people buy new cars too and wouldn’t mind the occasional test drive prior.

I think GV70 competes with X3 - not X5. As far as their business model - they are trying to go the "tesla way" of selling - not a traditional brick and mortar dealership. They have a problem - convincing dealers to invest large amounts of money to have a dedicated dealerships and hyundai dealers also do not want to invest. It is very tough to re-educate existing dealerships as to how to cater to premium buyers. So they took the route of doing the sales themselves corporately instead of through dealers.

IMO: Genesis have no cars to sell, their waiting list 6-12+ months so their pathetically low volume is not indicative of their performance on the Australian market. GV70 drives very well and is well priced for all the goodies, compared to the big-3 overpriced Germans and Toyota/Lexus. I recently (Sep 2022) cancelled my order on GV70 2.5T AWD, because the contract price went up +$2-3K since I put my order in June 2022, and the waiting list expanded from 6 months quoted in June 2022 to ~8-9 months in Sep 2022 - for 2.5T. I decided not to commit my $80K (drive-away) for next 8-9 months knowing the price may well go up again and the waiting list looks to be closer to 12 months. No commodity new car is worth waiting for 12 months. The new car supply issues (for the popular/reliable brands) will likely exist for at least another ~12-18-24 months. My opinion therefore is this: 2022 and 2023 is a bad time to buy a new car, unless you really, really, really have to. It is best to defer the new car purchase until 2024-2025. I understand this plan is not for everyone. But if you can defer buying a new car, you will win. (I am assuming there is no new pandemic or a major war). Peace.

They're a bunch of marketing idiots. They think they are elevating Genesis to a higher level by refusing to connect it to Hyundai, but all they're doing is sabotaging it. If they just had a separate section for Genesis at Hyundai dealers, with glorious showrooms that look a bit more special than the Hyundai section, they'd be selling these things like hotcakes. They'd make 10 times more money than they are by selling a handful of unobtainium Genesis models, and the bottom line would look a whole lot better. We mature enough to handle the idea that Genesis is made by Hyundai. As it stands, it's likely to fail as a business and it's quite probable that you won't be able to buy a Genesis in Australia in 5 years time. They'll conclude that it's because Aussies rejected the product, but it's purely on their dealer strategy. Shame really. Good product being shot in the foot.

Genesis G70, G80, GV70 and GV80 have more bang for the dollar. And are just as reliable as a hills host. Some of the specks i've seen are very cool. I've delivered new Genesis cars to their new owners and picked up the trade ins. If people who are very well off are trading in their BMW's M-Benz and so on, what is saying. If the owner of a S Class Benz trades for a G80 and a Few months later the wife trades BMW X5 for a GV70. There is nothing more you can say. The product is of a premium level and is extremely reliable. The sales tactics are way off the track. But people with egos need to fluffed and stroked and by cars to feed that ego and leave all their cash at the service department. Don't quote me on this, one customer told me the price included 5-year service plan and 7-year warranty. You don't have to be a genius to work out to buy a Genesis. P.S Love the G70 Shooting Brake but until it comes with the 3.3TT will not buy.

I am looking for a good SUV and local mechanic who works on everything says buy a Toyota. Reliable, easy to service and parts available. Toyota are basically where Holden used to be he says. Had a 2022 GV70 3.5 for 31k miles trade in value $51k for a 2023 G80 AWD 2.5 Sport Prestige and love them both . GV70 for the 18 months was flawless and 2 months into the G80 likewise. I know it’s nice to have Hyundai $ behind them but Genesis really gets to do their own thing if you dig and read up on them. Got a lot of talent out of BMW and Bentley and let them alone to drive the product design and development, they didn’t pay big $ for that talent just to tell them what to do. So you can say Hyundai and Genesis in the same breath but you’re not accurate.
As for the gear selector and the confusion, oh my such a catastrophic disaster that brings to your life! At 80 mph going down the interstate and you turn the wrong dial you know what happens….not a damn thing but a message you turned the wrong dial. So you know what you do, you turn the other one, it’s so complicated 🤪 Push a button on a Palisade, and others are also shift by wire, you figure out where the MB gear selector is yet?
Sorry John…it sounds like it sucks to be in AU for now but for a six year old company I think Genesis has hit the market with eye popping attention. Sales are strong in the states and they sell every unit and their production looks to be surpassing pre-pandemic numbers. Maybe they should have stayed out of other countries markets until they had their capacity and dealership network figured out, but it’s hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube now.

I liked the GV70 when it first came out especially the diesel one but after the hoopla.... tumbleweeds. It would be a better proposition than a Merc long term and a hell of a lot more satisfying to own cost aside. BUT! I live in Adelaide so if I win Lotto on Saturday, I have to drive my humble Kia to Melbourne or fly to Perth. Not going to be a lot of interest in servicing it here either methinks. It joins the list of Euros I will not be buying. Lexus doesnt really do it for me either so I would probably go for a new Sportage. Humbler but more obtainable and probably just as satisfying to own. It is hilarious that you can't take a car for a drive from a *cough/splutter* flagship dealer. Maybe they should listen to people like you John. I like what I saw of the Ioniq 6 but how long will we wait to be able to take one home? Genesis has the product but a lousy retail model. It is such a shame seeing the GV80 is such a beauty to drive and over long distances, is a beauty to sit in as a passenger. They need to get their $h!t together commercially in the retail and service aspect of things. I am not saying they have $h!t customer support, (like three prong, Audi etc) I am saying they need to plot the course down the well worn road of the path of Kia, and Hyundai i.e. have a presence everywhere. If they get the retail/service side sorted, they should be able to pull three pronged and beaten death star customers with relatively little work.
I won't buy three prong, or VAG junk ever again. I am done with all that junk. BMW is I don't know, better than three prong, etc, etc.
