I have a 2011 4.6L Genesis. Has 107k miles on it and I bought it with about 40k miles on it. I have to say, I just detailed it for the first time ever yesterday. I am really amazed that the paint is still stellar after years outdoors. This car has been solid. I replaced the window switches myself for about 150 dollars and then replaced the front brake pads and plugs at about 100k miles. Of course the battery wears out as normal. The radio has hiccupped a few times and then resets itself and continues on. Still working. Still runs perfectly, looks good and has been a very solid car. Thought about buying something new as I am bored with it, but my wife loves the car because it handles and is fast, so I broke down and bought a new set of tires for it. Oh, the volume button on the radio broke once and just broke again. Cheap plastic, and just buy a new knob. Really has been a GREAT car.
It's just so many of us are late to the game. I wish I knew about the 5.0 before buying mine with the 3.8. But even with the smaller engine it is a sick ride and very underappreciated.
I bought my 12 Rspec almost 3 years ago, after discovering this channel. I've been so happy with the car and I'm glad I bought it when I did! I've since seen others go for double what I paid for mine. Thanks for all the great content my man!
Just picked up a 2017 G80 5.0 Ultimate. (27k miles) Very new to the car scene, (2014 Raptor SVT; 6.5 years, 181k miles) lookin forward to making my G80 my everyday driver from now on.
I'm the proud owner of a 2018 G80 3.8 and she's been flawless except for a leaking water pump (replaced under warranty at 26k miles). Nice ride. Can't complain. Test drove one with more than 100k mikes b4 pulling the trigger on this one and was very impressed. No rattles, valve tapping, suspension issues, etc.
Love your videos... I also have a 2012 R-Spec 5.0 with 179,000 miles. I replaced the trunk badge, upgraded the rims to 19 x 8.5 (245/45R/19) as the factory seem to get road rash really easy. I replaced the Resonator, mufflers, and drilled out the secondary CATs. Like you I had to replace the Alternator at 140K miles and replace the plugs and Denon coils from Amazon for like $200. It only took me 30-40 minutes super easy. I replaced the factory Shocks and Struts... Again with factory as I could not find any aftermarket that would not lower the car. New C1 Rotors and pads all the way around. Like your 2012 mine burns oil. Started at 1 quart every 1200 miles, then at 80K 1 quart every 1000 miles, at 120k 1 quart every 800 miles. During the summer I jumped to 10/40 weight oil and it helped, back to 1 quart every 1000 miles. At 178,000 miles it dropped to 1 quart every 500 miles. Bad timing... I just bought a new house in January and we replaced my wife's old SUV with a 2019 twin turbo Flex Limited. There went me going 200K miles and in 2022 getting a 2019 Genesis G80 Sport, those are the best rims. I went to CarMax... Yes CarMax to test drive sport sedans... I hated just about all of them. Either to small for my 6'3 wide as a door body type, no power, the suspensions were like ridding on a cloud... How is that a sport sedan, or the price tag was just to much for me... $30,000 for a 2018 G80 Sport... Yes I cried... I came home pissed off and I told the wife nothing was as good as my R-Spec.... She is so smart, so she, said then get a newer R-Spec with less miles!!! I will not repeat what else she said... :o So guess what I did Friday and yesterday... I called about a half dozen dealers in Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. The closest dealer with a respectable 2013 or 2014 R-spec that wasn't trashed, have high miles 100k+, or smoking crack asking $19k+ for a car that looks like crap and has duck-tap on the interior driver side door handle was 620 miles away. Yes there were some that were nice that were closer, Loveland, OH 2013 with 81K miles in black and its immaculate for $14,500... very well taken care of. My only concern was the manufacture date of 10/13/2012. Would it have the fixed piston rings... I settled on or should I say haggled the crap out of a dealer in Albany, Georgia. 2013 R-Spec in Parisian Grey with 47K miles for $14,800 + shipping + fees + taxes... Going from Georgia to Indiana hurts!!! Hope to have it delivered sometime next week.... I will finally have Android Auto...
watched 1/2 of this vid before work this morning had my heart set on a 2016 Acura tlx but it was parked next to a 2013 Gen so I took it for a spin and was sold immediately! the hp is awesome haven't had that feeling since I owned a 79 trans am-403 motoor 4 on the floor- just watched 2nd 1/2 of vid- very good info. thanks for being so honest. can't wait till thursday to take it on the hwy.
Bought my 12 R spec about a year and a half ago at 91k and now I'm at 115k. I've experienced most of the problems you cover in the video except for the seats, locks and alt. Fortunately for me, I'm a mechanic so I can handle the issues myself. I did want to comment on the oil consumption. I was at slightly over a quart per 1k from the time I purchased the car. After lots of research, I decided to flush the engine with "motor medic" 4 oil changes ago and replace 1 quart with Lucas additive. My consumption was cut in half over the course of the oil life (4000 miles). I did the same thing the next oil change and the consumption dropped again to less than a quart over the oil life. The next oil change, with no additives or flush it used almost no oil. I just changed the oil again and I'll be watching it closely. Fingers crossed. I have nothing to do with any of the products I mentioned, I'm just saying what I did and it seems to have worked.
i dont know what to say . im an an boxing trainer and own and gym. broke as hell since covid 19. so literally needless 2say i have 0 money to .I bought the Genesis 3.8 sedate is 8 Sedan in 2016 and I absolutely loved ithey loved it. All of a sudden I noticed electrical problems last Winter twinter and I would completely lose control of the car and the ESC light would start blinking now now it is happening even in the rain the rain my thread is definitely low on my rear tires but I didn't know if you had any other experience or heard of anything that has to do with electricals problems or the ESc issues. i also have a tire inflation issue where my rear tire every 12 hrs goes to 15 psi. help please almost crashed 4x this week going 70mph
I'm at 148k and have only had to change my EVAP Purge valve. Coolant flush at 130k. Other than that not one issue. And I beat the hell out of it lol Update: 165k miles and still no issues Update: 186k miles. Fully tuned on e85 428whp and 395rwtq with harsh abuse and still 0 issues
I have a 2011 Genesis 4.6L currently having issues where I pump gas and the car doesn't want to start up at first but after 1-2 min it starts up fine what do you suggest?
I have a 2010 4.6 genesis . I bought it around 65k now has 140k. Mostly all freeway ! Had it for 3 years now. Changed battery, changed spark plugs, changed breaks, resurfaced rotors when I first got it. Regular oil changes every 3k miles, had to replace evap purge valve (check engine light came on at 100k after valve change check engine went away!). Wear and tear suspension issues (I drive very fast tbh) recently replaced lower control arms next I will replace shocks and struts. Other than that the car has been very reliable! No issues at all ( knock on wood ) back up camera went black before (read in a genesis forum to slam the trunk ) got out slammed the trunk hasn’t happened again and this was about at 110k so it’s been a while ! I would highly recommend this car if someone asked !
Thank you for this! I’m checking out a pearl white 2012 Genesis tomorrow so all this information is very great to know, hoping for the best.. for all of us lol
I own a 2010 Hyundai Genesis V6 114,000 miles and I love it! Cabernet Red paint, light tan interior, navigation, and of course a simple, reliable 6 cylinder engine. No parking sensors, no cooled seats, every thing works!
I just picked up a 2012 Genesis 3.8 RWD w/ 170k mi, my grandfather gifted it to me as my 1st car last week, I’ve been looking at this car for a year now and I now have one it is mad fun to drive🔥👍🏾
It's honestly such a damn shame they never offered the v8 in the genesis coupe. Around the time when that car was new so many people were comparing it to g37's, mustangs, and camaros. And the main #1 gripe I saw people bring up in favor of the american cars was that there's no v8 option to really compete with a 5.0 mustang or anything. It's especially sad, knowing how good the tau v8's are, Fairly bulletproof and make great power. It would have been so cool to have a korean muscle car with a 430hp v8, and really would have boosted their street cred at the time. I think hyundai's reasoning was that it wouldnt fit, but I've seen several tuners that successfully swapped it in. I've got a 2.0t r spec, and love it to death, but man that v8 would have been cool. We desperately need hyundai to bring back the coupe under the new genesis platform. The sedans are awesome, but I can only imagine how cool a coupe would be with the kia stinger v6tt. Would make a good fairlady Z and supra competitor.
Awesome video. Im extremely happy with my 2011 3.8 sedan (168,000 miles) no problems. Im in the process of replacing the master window switch due to the rear passenger window not coming up. At the same time hoping it can fix the door lock issue. will keep you posted. Thanks for sharing!! Cheers.
I really enjoy your videos. I just want to add that I had a 2010 4.6 and I bought it new and I put 156,000 miles on it. The CD player stopped loading discs and the back up camera occasionally was black screen but that was rare. That was the only issues in 156,000 miles. Best car I ever owned.
Thanks for the info. I have a black 2012 with 3.8. Very happy with the car. The only issue I had was the sunroof. (covered by warranty). Keep making videos.
Great video, thank You ! I feel very fortunate ! I have a 2011 Genesis sedan with 4.6 in Titanium silver. I've got only 30,555 miles on mine, not a daily driver. The car is absolute Mint condition. I have had zero problems with anything. I installed Magnaflow cat back & she just rumbles so very sweet. Stainless pillar posts really set it off. It's the fastest / finest car I ever owned. Lexacon sound system is fabulous. My wife won't ride with me. I've done 145 mph twice. A high performance luxury car no doubt. And I'm a 64 year old kid ! Dave, Pittsburgh, Pa. area...
Just purchased my 2011 4.6 with 120k miles on it 3 weeks ago and I absolutely love it so far. I watched your channel leading up to the purchase which helped me decide to pull the trigger on the car. Awesome channel bro! This channel and these cars both deserve more love!
I just got a 2013 genesis 3.8, so far a couple small issues. 1) Driver side heater seat doesn’t work, 2) starting to get trans slip when changing gears (I have extended warranty that should cover it, 3) I do notice the issue with the paint (Small chips on front and back bumper). Other than that, I’m enjoying the drive so far. I will continue to come back and check out the channel for other tips and tricks on the vehicle.
2013 Genesis R-Spec ( blk/blk ) 12,700 mi as of today. This channel assisted in my research and decision to buy it a couple of years ago. All good so far! Love it...Thanks man! Keep up the great work and congrats on your sponsorship.
I brought my 2012 gen 3.8 sedan new im at 111,660 miles now no issues with the engine or transmission so far just the traction and cruise control modules having issues and when its hot the driver door lock actuator doesn't operate properly but it still drives smoothly and runs great oh the sun roof repair for me at the dealership was a little over $1k
I have a black on black 3.8L 2013 sedan with only 75,000 miles on it. I bought the car new. To date I have only had to change a headlight control module at an independent garage (not cheap). I changed the front brake pads myself at 72,000 miles. There was still about 10,000 miles left on the old pads though. I did not change out the rotors. Next time I’ll upgrade to drilled and slotted rotors. I changed the tires at 73,000 miles. I put 255/50 VR 18’s on the front and 255/55 VR 18’s on the rear. I needed the car raised a little to avoid bent wheels (had 2) on Atlanta’s crappy streets/roads. Great upgrade. I changed the exhaust from CATS back. Replaced the middle resonator with an “X” pipe and replaced the mufflers with Magnaflow mufflers. Great sound and horsepower improvement! i added a “Sprint Booster” to improve throttle response - best add on for $300 investment! I put a leather steering wheel cover on and it made the steering wheel “fatter” which I like for driving comfort. I put on a cheap “oil catch can” to help stop any oil vapors from being sucked in through the intake valves. I think all GDI engines would benefit from that addition. I added a K&N engine air cleaner at about 25,000 miles. I just cleaned and recharged it a couple days ago - they only need attention about every 50,000 miles. I have only used full synthetic oil in the car. I only change the oil and filter about every 10,000 miles or so. Am I happy with the car? Now that I have made all the changes I wanted, YOU BET I’M HAPPY WITH IT! It’s finally just what I intended for the car to make it MINE! Oh, and it LOVES to be driven at fast highway speeds! What a great road car!
I got a 2012 CPO R Spec with 25K miles 5 years ago and got the Hyundai extended warranty. I had 3 transmissions replacements, an engine top overhaul due to oil consumption then finally Hyundai replaced my motor at 100K miles after oil consumption tests. Now, with 110K miles I noticed that the soot build up in my bumper due to oil burning is gone. The transmission is holding strong but I try to drive it old man conservative. If you get one, just make sure to get the warranty. My sunroof went south as well after I got it but was replaced with warranty. Also the driver seat rails were replaced as well as the I drive controller.
I have a 2011 3.8L with 140,000kms (90,000 miles). Only things I have had to replace since getting the car 4 years ago is a battery and the rear back up camera as you reported, and bought the replacement on line, and luckily it arrived within a few days from Korea. I have the 6 speed automatic and I agree with everything you say about the vehicle and its ride. Like your car my sensors beep once in a while, but to me, no big deal. Thanks for the tip about looking for problems after 100,000 miles is reached. I am considering trading it in on a '19 Hyundai Sonata, low mileage, with similar bells and whistles, with a difference before taxes of $13,000 CDN. I hope I have as good a service with the Sonata as I have had with the Genisus. Enjoyed your report.
A catch can will not do a thing about bad piston rings or otherwise related to high oil consumption. The catch can is there to help limit the amount of gunk (oil and carbon) from forming on the backside of the intake valves when the PVC system recycles the oil vapors back into the intake runners and over the valves. GDI does not wash the backside of the intake valves with fuel like old school injection systems so valves get to be gunked up, in some engines more than others. To remove it all you have to pull the intake manifold and physically remove it. Looks like an easy job.
Great video! I've also got a 2012 R-Spec that just passed 100,000 miles. Just starting to have some of the issues you mentioned, so I'm glad its not just mine!
Just bought one off my father, so I KNOW its been cared for. A bit high mileage for my liking (75,000), but he kept it clean & gave me a "family discount" on the price lol.
found your videos looking up stuff on the R-specs. just picked up a 2012 R-spec from the auction for $4K with 160K. At least when we looked at it at the auction everything was working. picking it up this monday and ill see how it does for it being my daily.
How has your 09 4.6 held up? I want to get a 09 4.6 with 122k miles but I’m not sure if they’re very reliable in the long run since it would be my daily.
Very helpful!! Looking into a 2015 5.0 with very low miles and I'd imagine some of these things have been fixed from one generation to the next but still good to know what to look for when buying one
i have a 2009 genesis sedan 3.8. with 50k miles in 2015. 1st off o love this car so much and its so cheap to run.i love mine has no hyundai sign snywhere besides the steer wheel. people alwaya think its a Bentley i lovr it lol. Off the lot i loved it and even as a rear drive, it was beyond great esp in snow and rain. i had small issues w radio sometimes wouldn't turn on until i restarted it. also the tire pressure sensor in my one tire is always claiming its low psi. now it sctually only holds to 20 psi and i haaz e to pump my cars tire daily. annoying. guess i neef to replacce sensor. but most important and i need help bad and advice quick. at 100k miles my ESC doesnt work at all in snow or rain. the esc light blinks and i have no traction and fish tail at any second. . spinning out going straight on a highway going 30 mph . please help no one has any answers bout the esc traction control
I found a 2013 about a two years ago with a little over 25,000 miles on it. Now it has about 44,000 miles. I had to replace a front wheel speed sensor. Great car in my opinion so far.
gonna be hard to leave my audi but I wanna travel the whole country by car this year and want something fun + luxurious, nothing beats this at its current price. Almost certainly gonna end up with one soon, thanks for the video. Very helpful
I've got a 2010 4.6 and I've had to do the whole front strut assembly at 145k. And legit nobody had any parts not even the dealers. So had go the cheap way, Junk yard parts. And it took me 3 days to do the God Damn alternator.
I had a 2012 a few years back and I loved it. Bought it at 82K miles and was the second owner. Piston ring on cylinder 2 did go and it actually ended up causing the motor to blow. I would 100% buy another one, but it would definitely Not be a 2012.
I have a 2009 4.6 Genesis and I use full synthetic oil. (Mobil 1 or Pennzoil platinum). I change the oil every 10,000 miles (ten thousand) and it does not use a drop in between changes. The car currently has 125,000 miles on it. This is very much in contrast to your experience with oil consumption.
@@Xtalgic they are an absolute blast! I have some autocross and track footage on my channel. It's a riot. Not that bad of a daily driver, but you can tell the focus was on performance and not comfort. I watched your video all the way through and I recall hearing about the piston ring issue last time I was researching this car. Is that only on the V8 models or do the V6 models have the issue as well? I was kind of leaning towards the V6
@@Xtalgic great, thanks for the reply! I'm in the Chicagoland area so the Autobahn Country Club track might sound familiar to you. I also recall you saying you do some rallies in your Genesis - I'm guessing you mean traditional road rallies where you try to maintain a certain speed over a set route? I was looking into trying one of those next year, sounds fun. Curious which ones you do! Thanks for posting this. By far the best long term review on this car. There are tons of videos on the car when it was new, but I really care about how it is in the long term after it's got some miles on it. Thanks for the quick replies, and I wish you and yours a happy new year!
I have a 2012 3.8 sedan that has a transmission surge around 3 - 4th gear and only seems to do it when it's hot outside and the car is fully warmed up. I have read on forums it's actually a solenoid in the valve body and not anything mechanically wrong with the transmission. Does anyone else have similar issues?
THANKS For Posting THIS VIDEO...After hearing about The Transmission, The Door Locks and The Electronics I Think Im gonna pass on Buying One This Weekend... THE One I Was Going to go Look at and buy is a 2010 With 112k Miles 3.8 It's A 1 Owner.. BUT Now I'm Scared, I Don't Need None of THESE ISSUES In My Life..
There are no transmission issues with the 2010 using the 3.8. The Engine/Transmission issues began in 2012 when they introduced new engines and the 8 speed transmission. They use reliable transmissions for the 2010 models i believe the same ones that Toyota uses.
Thanks for the info, very informative. I own a 2009 Genesis and it has 106,000 miles and runs great. The only thing is that the sunroof doesn’t work, not too worried because the AC gets super cold.
This video is awesome. My 2013 5.0 Genesis is having the same parking sensor issue. Are you planning to fix that? I'd be very interested if you make a video fixing that in the future haha
I have my eyes on a 2010 and a 2012 right now. Both look like new in the photographs. No chips, no flaws visible in photo's. The tan interior front seats are the only thing that look a bit dirty and a little worn. The 2010 has 87,000 miles on it and the 2012 has 117,000. I'm thinking of aiming for the 2010 because it's cheaper than the 2012 by five thousand dollar's and it has less miles. I love the ritzy style and l hear the ride is quiet, stable and comfortable on the highway. The 4.6 V8 is a plus for me because l'm a fan of V8's . Keep up on maintenance, keeping the engine clean and in top form is an old school Hot Rodder thing for me . But ' at the same time, l want some cushioning comfort at my age. I can't wait to test drive one and see it front of me. I hope it's not a small car !
i have a 2012, and ive put a new transmission in and i had to get a motor, it prolly wasnt the actual motor after the fact im thinking maybe the coial, rite now its not keeping power or recharging after i gave a jump to someone, i recharged the new battery and theres a new alternator as well but it just loses power and shuts off, kant even put it in park or turn the car off if i try before all power shuts down.... and i dont have the vent nipple thing on my battery, theres a hose looks cut but i just watchdd a video to moreless clean the positive whole square thing and it shows something clamped in to the backside of the battery, mines never had one i guess, since i bought it (used) i kant enjoy take off speed anymore since the transmission, and i hesitates to go in gear if i let my mate drive it, its weird but after a while it evens back out.... but very sensitive..... on my 3rd battery overall as well.....
OWNED MY 2012 4.6 FOR 6 YEARS WITH 84K ON IT NOW. WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR WENT OUT RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT IT AT 35k . WARRANTY COVERED IT. OTHER THAN THAT JUST A NEW BATTERY. GREAT VIDEO VERY INFORMATIVE.
I have v6 3.8 2010 sedan works will just keep replace what the menu say but only one think change before the menu says it's engine oil I put Castrol oil 15km drive 7500 km and change it with the filter, remember oil is the blood of the car
I have a 2012 RSPEC great car Best car I ever had It is supper fast I have it up to 160 MPH I have 166 k Regular maintenance One think I do is put a additive called Slick 50 Interior seats are like new Great leather I have new tires I use Continental tires very quite tires Great car
I too am like you in that if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Did you talk about brake fluid change intervals? I recommend that you do throw in some Techron more frequently just to keep the fuel tank cleaner from moisture and keep the very expensive, high pressure fuel injectors happy. My April 14, 2012 R-Spec runs well but there is just a little lack of smooth at cold start idle. I am gonna hit it with CRC Intake Valve and Turbo Cleaner and see what happens. Can't hurt. Mine has 81K on it and I am a DIY guy, too. My research warned me about transmissions and MFG dates, so I avoided the real early ones. A quart of oil consumed in 5K miles is really nothing to mention as excessive. Glad you mentioned it. My car after 1300 miles has not burned any oil. Just bought last Feb from orgi owner still under warranty until I got it. I have known about these cars for years but enjoyed the car I owned having been a BMW driver for 45 years (I only buy BMWs with 100K+ and I have owned them all. At the time of Genesis purchase, was driving a 2000 740il. Before needing the bigger car for business, I usually had smaller models that I could modify and take to track driver's schools at Lime Rock and Pocono. The stock R-Spec has exceeded all expectations. My friends all have 3.8s and they are pretty good performing cars but lack the sport suspension. Keep up the good work for the Genesis community, Bro!
@@darrincernohous1563 True that! Fairly common knowledge that the brake fluid service intervals are established by most manufacturers and usually are time sensitive. Often recommended is every 2-3 years to flush it. The reason is because brake fluid attracts moisture easily and to prevent corrosion of master cylinder, calipers and the like it should be changed to extend the life of those components. And only use Dot 4 brake fluid while you're at it. Brake fluid goes in clean almost clear unless you're using High Performance brake fluids and after a short while it turns dark which is contamination.
I just looked at the factory Genesis maintenance reference guide that came with the car and they recommend changing brake fluid every 30K miles or 24 months. There you go! And definitely take off the wheels first! lol
Thanks for the comment and info Keith! And I didn’t mention the brakes because I almost immediately swapped them for brembos so I don’t have any experience with the stock hardware. But for reference, I usually change brake fluid every 3 years.
Bought genesis 2014 since 2014, currently 224,000 miles. Enough said for longevity. Everyone(I mean, everyone), who gets on the car or test drives, shocked how smooth, quite, and powerful it is. No rattles in idle(i mean, no rattle like new car). Mainly highway(about 70%)
Have a 2013 3.8 that I bought last year at 100,000 km. Only issues I had was the parking sensor you mentioned (just turned the feature off to avoid the beeping) and my passenger side mirror motor was faulty (bought a used one and replaced it myself). Other than that I love it. Will keep an eye out for the sunroof though, I use it everyday.
Elia, great video man!! Thanks so much for the thoroughness of the video and I already have the door lock issue but mine is the right rear passenger door that doesn’t unlock. Here’s one for you. My trunk suddenly not unlock and open blocs the key fob or the button on the door. Could not figure it out but thanks to google I found the valet button in the glove box had been pressed which disables the trunk and once I pressed it, boom all worked again😀😀
i just bought a 2010 3.8 v6 one and everything’s fine with the electronics except the front seat doesn’t move back and forth and the usb plug also doesn’t work
I have the first model 2009, built in Korea in 2008. My big issue is the electronic push button start. It does not always start on the first try. Sometimes I will try once, or twice. And it'll start up. Sometimes it will start up, after I've completely taken my foot off the brake, and the button. Two seconds later, sometimes as if there is a delayed reaction. Sometimes I have to wait 20, or 30 minutes and try it again later. Is that a common complaint? And if so, what can that be attributed to?
This isn’t a common problem no, I don’t hear a lot about issues with the push button. I would try inserting your Fob in the slot and trying it that way.
Love the videos. Great content. I am very close to buying a 13 r spec 92k KM’s on it. I appreciate you saying you love The car and it’s reliable, but I kinda feel like these electronic issues are being downplayed. It just seems like there are a lot of them, is this common? To be honest I would rather mechanical problems than electronics. Way easier to fix and often cheaper too. Anyhow, love the videos, love the car. Perhaps someone can let me know if these issues are in fact common.? Is the consensus that everyone loves their Genny?
Thanks for the info. Was looking at a used 2012 Genesis 3.8 today at the dealership. Has 133,000 k miles on it, and price was 9k. What do you think of it, and anything I should check before using it??
had my 09 for a year now. got it from coggin they SAY they fixed the steering column but it went back out like a month after and I can't adjust my seat or steering up and down but its set for me. I'm use to a car telling me to change oil soon but it don't and just had to change the gas cap it triggered the check engine light replaced it and engine light is off now but other than that I love my genny.
I’m thinking of buying a 2010 3.8 sedan 157k miles, it drives completely find, no rattling or clunky sounds, the transmission is smooth, no warning lights, I’d be paying $8,700 total, is it worth it?
To further his point, currently I own a 2013 5.0 R-Spec with 40k miles and can confirm the following: 1. Paint is super fragile, "cheap" wouldn't be the best way to describe it, but of lesser quality than other brands for sure. I am pretty sure my car was left out in the harsher coastal sunlight, because my paint is also fading and eroding from sun damage after 7 years. I am considering a wrap or repaint to Ultrasonic Mica Blue 2.0, either with ceramic coating for additional protection. 2. I had a 2013 3.8 V6 with 80k miles before owning my V8, the problems with those are the old style head units have boot loop issues in extreme heat (98 degrees or above) and the seat warmers for the driver side fail often because the wire shielding in the seat will actually melt, causing the button to flash after a few seconds and just flat out not work. 3. On the subject of heat, I have also noticed my 5.0 R-Spec also suffers from some heat-related issues regarding electronics, I get almost the same issue with my parking sensors(even when they're turned off!) when temperature changes drastically between days(I live in central California, so within three days it can jump from 74 to 88 to 100+ degrees in the summer). Honestly though this is probably again due to the fact that my car seems to have been left in the harsh California summer sun for most of its life. I do use these parking sensors, and this can be frustrating sometimes but ultimately isn't a deal breaker for me to own this vehicle. 4. Leather center armrest on my V6 ripped after about 20k miles of usage, maybe I was digging my elbows in too hard but regardless watch yourself and take care of that leather from time to time. 5. In the way of actual engine maintenance, I have thrown in a couple of fuel injection cleaner bottles and some Seafoam as well, got a bit noticeable throttle response after running that. The previous owners did a piss poor job of maintenance, so I went a little overkill on that. I have also taken apart the intake box and sprayed 3/4 of a can of intake valve cleaner into the manifold. If you do this, be warned that the instructions say to rev your engine no higher than 3K RPMs, but the intake will not open enough to spray into unless you go higher than that. I had to rev out my engine and spray for 1-2 seconds and stop until I got through 3/4 of the can. At that point, my engine stalled because of heat soak revving it out for 45 minutes intermittently, scared the crap out of me but it ran just fine after letting it cool down. This is an excellent video, definitely learned a thing or two on what to look forward to in the future of my ownership. I do have some modifications I plan on, one thing that wasn't covered was sway bar kits which I found online somehow(I'll try to find the link if anyone is interested). Thus far I have only added a K&N filter to the stock intake, definitely gives a nice induction noise but not really any "power gains", just slightly better throttle response. If you can, can you link or provide the video name on where you change the spark plugs? I would like to change mine out and I am having a hard time finding out how to do this on this car.
Thanks for all the helpful info Evan! And yes my sensors beep as well even if the parking sensors are off. And I forgot to mention I have the same exact issue with the leather on my armrest, probably from my elbows as well. And thanks for reminding me about the link I will add now in the description!
@@Xtalgic oh and just FYI, you can go get the armrest fixed for like $20 at any body shop, they know how to do those on the cheap if it's not too bad. Otherwise, new upolstery is probably like $100-200, not bad but not cheap.

So I drive a 2010 genesis 4.6 sedan and I’ve had to replace the crankshaft sensor because it was giving trouble to start and my steering wheel mover thing doesn’t work
Thanks for the video. My 2015 has 70,000KM (43400 Miles) so no problems yet except one of the sensors on the front bumper is acting up. I put a small square of black tape over it. The car doesn't have auto braking so no problem. I did change the front brake pads at 63000KM (37800). My only issue is with the battery. Its not a sealed unit so once a year ( in November). I check the level in each cell and top up with distilled water. It did overflow and dripped on to the driveway so my bad.
@@dreyusalexander718 Yes, that build date had potential for driveline problems. Was your car under warranty to have it covered? Or were you not the orig owner?

(27k miles)
Very new to the car scene, (2014 Raptor SVT; 6.5 years, 181k miles) lookin forward to making my G80 my everyday driver from now on.
So guess what I did Friday and yesterday...

My check engine light blew out. 2010 Genesis 4.6 sedan. How do I change it???
Sheeeeeshhh I honestly wouldn’t have kept the car after all those problems. Sounds like a nightmare!
Just bought a 2015 5.0 all I have to say is wow!!!
Just bought my 2013 last week! Thanks for all of your videos. You gotta see if a catch can will help your your oil consumption.
Nice congrats! And possibly in the future. Car has been reliable thus far idk if I need one.

Very informative. You're a great Genesis resource. Thanks a million.
Appreciate it!!
Currently drive a Veloster N as a daily/track/autocross car and was thinking about picking up one of these as a daily driver. Thanks for the review!
Hell ya! Always wanted to test drive one of those, heard they’re incredible, especially for the value.
@@dw_moto def will check out those video. And the only motor affected was the 5.0 and early production years in 2012.
Thanks man! All the raillies and cruises I’ve done are on the channel. And if you’re ever down, I’d love to film your N. Lemme know!
Is the warranty, if it hasn't expired yet, transferable to subsequent owners?
I just got one 2009 3.8 with 66k only on it.
Love it !
I do but when I went to the dealership they said I needed a new transmission
What was the outcome of? Surge meaning slipping?
@@walithebaddest2878 OK Thanks for that Info
Thanks for the info, very informative. I own a 2009 Genesis and it has 106,000 miles and runs great. The only thing is that the sunroof doesn’t work, not too worried because the AC gets super cold.
This video is awesome. My 2013 5.0 Genesis is having the same parking sensor issue. Are you planning to fix that? I'd be very interested if you make a video fixing that in the future haha
Possibly haha for my sanity I probably should.
But ' at the same time,
l want some cushioning comfort at my age.
I can't wait to test drive one and see it front of me. I hope it's not a small car !
When you do the rear camera, see if can upgrade to a better one, more clear/ less grainy.thanks.
i have a 2012, and ive put a new transmission in and i had to get a motor, it prolly wasnt the actual motor after the fact im thinking maybe the coial, rite now its not keeping power or recharging after i gave a jump to someone, i recharged the new battery and theres a new alternator as well but it just loses power and shuts off, kant even put it in park or turn the car off if i try before all power shuts down.... and i dont have the vent nipple thing on my battery, theres a hose looks cut but i just watchdd a video to moreless clean the positive whole square thing and it shows something clamped in to the backside of the battery, mines never had one i guess, since i bought it (used) i kant enjoy take off speed anymore since the transmission, and i hesitates to go in gear if i let my mate drive it, its weird but after a while it evens back out.... but very sensitive..... on my 3rd battery overall as well.....
Hi! Does 4.6 have the oil consumtion issue ?
@user-hg6my3pl7j I never had any. I had 85k on it. Until someone hit the rear and it was totally in 2022.
You drive with the TPMS light on, never replaced the sensors that are only good for 6-8 years??
Brake fluid says whenever needed. I'm at 75k and will replace it when I do my brakes. Pretty easy to do when you have the wheels off to do brakes.
Mainly highway(about 70%)
What motor is it v6 or v8 5.0? How many do you have on it now and what problems did you have?
Getting a 2014 genesis 5.0L! 60k miles can’t wait
Damn! That’s what I’m looking for!! What color ?
I just bought one yesterday in black
thank you for all the vids, it helped a lot, I am buying one tomorrow, 2013 RSpec, wish me luck.
You’re welcome and good luck friend!!
Glad to hear you haven’t had many issues! And I believe my sunroof broke because I never used it tbh.
Thanks a lot for inform and teaching about Genesis, like to know what Oil you recommended to my next change.
Haha that’s happened to me once before. And thanks for the support dude!
Great name

@@kevinaero5586 great car
i just bought a 2010 3.8 v6 one and everything’s fine with the electronics except the front seat doesn’t move back and forth and the usb plug also doesn’t work
I have the first model 2009, built in Korea in 2008.
2011 3.8 v6 300k. No issues but the alternator only doing 12.6 on freeway. 14.2 at idle.
Love the videos. Great content. I am very close to buying a 13 r spec 92k KM’s on it. I appreciate you saying you love
The car and it’s reliable, but I kinda feel like these electronic issues are being downplayed.
Hi! Does 4.6 have the oil consumtion issue ?
Thanks for the info. Was looking at a used 2012 Genesis 3.8 today at the dealership. Has 133,000 k miles on it, and price was 9k. What do you think of it, and anything I should check before using it??
had my 09 for a year now. got it from coggin they SAY they fixed the steering column but it went back out like a month after and I can't adjust my seat or steering up and down but its set for me. I'm use to a car telling me to change oil soon but it don't and just had to change the gas cap it triggered the check engine light replaced it and engine light is off now but other than that I love my genny.
I’m thinking of buying a 2010 3.8 sedan 157k miles, it drives completely find, no rattling or clunky sounds, the transmission is smooth, no warning lights, I’d be paying $8,700 total, is it worth it?
just got a 14 rspec , its awesome .. Just trying to figure out where all the buttons are and what they do
To further his point, currently I own a 2013 5.0 R-Spec with 40k miles and can confirm the following:
@@Xtalgic awesome, thank you sir!
@@Xtalgic oh and just FYI, you can go get the armrest fixed for like $20 at any body shop, they know how to do those on the cheap if it's not too bad. Otherwise, new upolstery is probably like $100-200, not bad but not cheap.
