Favorite moment is when she meets her grandmother again and her grandmother doesn't blame Moana for her shortcomings but instead apologizes for putting such a heavy burden on her. I think if many adults were like this (this as in, apologizing and realizing that their kids are kids) with their kids there wouldn't be so much disparity between parent and child. But also the moment she says "I am Moana!" that gives me chills every time.
For some reason Maui's story always made me incredibly sad. He literally did everything to be accepted and people never really appreciated it. The fact that his own mother threw him into the sea (Hephaestus parallels) made me so mad >:(
Anyway, I love this reaction, it literally made my day ❤️🥺
He had the original toxic family!

In the legend he was stillborn, wrapped in his mother's topknot, cast into the sea, and then raised by atua. It's only by being close to death & the spiritual realm while protected by his mother's hair (head & hair being tapu) that he gains sacred knowledge and abilities.
@@serahnkahukura8433 Oooh, that's interesting, thanks for the info! :)
Infanticide was a common practice before reliable contraception was invented. Infact in many cultures infanticide was strongly encouraged during times of scarcity or when the child was weak, malformed, or even just the wrong sex.
The hook constellation is part of "our" scorpio constellation, the tail. Visible at summer here, it is at a beautiful part of the sky, close to the center of the galaxy
Moana is part Disney Fiction and part History. They were real voyagers centuries ago in Polynesia. For some reason they stopped voyaging and then some weird reason one thousand years later they continued the tradition of voyaging.
Yes, there is a legend about Maui lassoing the sun to lengthen summer days. The sun was racing across the sky and the crops were not getting enough light each day. He captured the sun and made it promise to move slowly across the sky during the growing season.
My favorite part of Moana is when Moana sings.
Actually, all the songs in this movie are amazing.
But mostly Moana.
The chicken 🐔 is quite hilarious.
HeiHei best character
@@artsysabs Same I like HeiHei
that chicken is voiced by the same guy who voiced K2S0 in rogue one and wash in firefly

- You don't say. ☕👌
Still wished that the piggy got more screen time
The two largest seafaring cultures in the world are the Polynesian/Samoa and the Norse people. They share many cultural points though they were half a world and 2000 years apart.
Plot twist: that sea turtle Moana saved is crush. He was blessed with long life after meeting the ocean spirit
The culture presented in the film isn’t just Samoan but more a culmination of pacific island cultures in general, the reason you don’t recognize the constellation of Maui’s hook is because it would appear upside down to anyone in the northern hemisphere
that’s really cool about the constellation :)
Palau never really did star navigation as we were the ones most islanders came to us. When we did, we went in small groups and went mostly to Guam and Saipan.
Keep the theme going and do Lilo and Stitch next? Lilo and Stitch has such a special spot in my heart, and I'm glad that Moana came out and also went into some other pacific island stories.
I get emotional every single time I see the scene with her and Te Ka heading towards each other in slow motion. It’s just incredible
omg yes I love her hair flowing in the wind, amazing
18:00 I love this line sm for some reason
"Alright ya big magma monster, let's tumble"
Correction, 17:59
I'd edit but I don't wanna lose my like
Moana is my #1 favorite Disney animated movie (not including Pixar). I just love this so much. I've watched it countless times and it still gets me emotional when Moana slow-mo approaches Te Kā and gives her back the heart. The whole concept of Te Fiti becoming a "demon" because her heart was stolen/corrupted and the realization that she doesn't have to be defined by that trauma and her heart can be restored...just beautiful. And it's barely touched on as far as the story goes, but it can absolutely be a teachable moment for kids and a way to open up a dialogue with someone who might need to seek out therapy/healing. That's the value I find in these simplistic Disney messages. There are deeper themes at play, and even though Disney tends to only scratch the surface of those important subjects, they plant the seeds for bigger lessons that parents and others can help viewers tackle. Also, although I love every single musical moment in this movie, I have to say that I simply adore Tamatoa (the monster crab) and his song "Shiny." The voice actor is New Zealander Jamaine Clement (actor singer, musician, writer, director, comedian - maybe most famous as part of the comedy-duo Flight of the Conchords) and his off-beat weirdo-ness is 100% my cup of tea. His part in Moana just cracks me up every time.
The hair animation in the movie was amazing.
Moana is an amalgamation of many Polynesian cultures like Hawai'ian, Samoan, Māori, and others. Taika Waititi wrote the first draft of the script for Disney as well (he's Māori), also based on the legend of Maui I believe. All the voice actors are Polynesian as well. I freaking love Pacific Island culture, it's so beautiful.
Moana should've gotten the tattoo at the end of the film. I can get maybe Disney not wanting to end on a "tattoos are cool" message for kids but it would've fit thematically.
@@summerrose8110 so was Maui, at first..
"I'm surprised that, with all of the new stuff Disney's been making, there haven't been more theme park attractions from these."
...Well...to be fair...COVID did not help...(to a point where a bunch of projects ended up being delayed or shelved entirely).
With that said, though, Zootopia's still going to be in Shanghai...Tangled and Frozen will still get their own lands (alongside Neverland from Peter Pan) at Tokyo DisneySEA...and Moana's still coming to EPCOT (right next to "The Living Seas with Nemo and Friends" of all things).
This movie got me even more interested into indigenous Polynesian cultures when I first watched it and now my entire social media is about indigenous cultures of my own and others
I think there might be a Hawaiian version of Moaña. And I think Auli’i Cravalho is the voice/singing actress of Moaña for that version as well. Super cool!
18:03 "Is that lightning in the clouds of the magma monster? That's just OP!" Ahhh, indeed it is, but it is accurate! Volcanic lightning baby, also called "dirty thunderstorms." They occur sometimes in eruptions due to the particles that make up the ash plumes colliding and creating static electricity. Static electricity on a large scale, of course, being lightning! There's some pretty wicked cool pictures of volcanic lightning online. So I appreciate Disney going for accuracy, even if it does make the magma monster that much more imposing and frightening!
Shiny is one of the best Disney songs ever. it never leaves my playlist. that crab is iconic.
1000% agree lol. I sing it all the time!
Love Jemaine Clement!!
It may seem like it was just 24 hours but technically they were sailing for a while probably a few weeks
Starring Moana, a girl who is next in line to be the chief. When the demigod Mowi stole the Heart of Tahiti it put a curse on all of the plant life on the island. When Moana's father refused to let her venture out into the outside world she comes across the very person who stole the heart. While together Moana learns about how to be a proper chief
While not exactly a ride, we ARE getting a Moana water experience in the new EPCOT!! 💖 Kinda an upgraded version of the jumping fountains. The concept art for it looks amazing!!
Composed by Lin-Manuel Maranda about the daughter of the chieftain who is next in line to his place. When the demigod Mowi steals a precious gem. The entire island becomes cursed. Venturing out to retail it she learns about herself and how to behave a proper leader
When I saw this movie in theaters with my father he cried once during the scene when the grandmas spirit went into the ocean and again when her spirit went to help moana realize who she is
I love this movie. Moana is the only Disney princess with no love interest. Auli'i Cravalho was only 16 when she was cast as the voice Moana.
Side Note - There is an after credit scene. You can find it on UA-cam. It's only 30 seconds.

I honestly laughed WAY too hard the first time I heard the chicken scream 3 times! Great movie
"The man cannot be stopped." ....You could say he is....Non-Stop.
Ohhhh you cheeky little
I love Lin and Moana
Good to know you like some polynesian culture but this movie is not just about samoans yes they are polynesians but it's more about all polynesians we are one people but we do not live on the same islands but we do originate from the same homeland and ancestors but all polynesian islands for you, samoa , tonga , hawaii , Tahiti , newzealand , cook islands , easter island , tokelau , tuvalu , niue , marquesas we do have some differences over time but we are still one people and some people have to much pride to accept it its pretty obvious we all look the same I'm Hawaiian I cant tell us apart and our languages are almost the same but some got changed from colonization cuz we didn't have a written language so foreigners wrote our languages so it's a little different now
This soundtrack hits so hard!! This and the Tarzan soundtrack I will just randomly turn on from time to time
The grandma in this movie is another Disney grandma legend!! ( Along with Grandma willow ( Pocahontas) and then grandma/chief in brother bear )
She believes in Moana and helps her find her true potential
What I appreciate about this movie is that her dad was protecting Moana the best way he knew how but in the end he not only trust Moana that she can find her own way but he apologies!!Nemo and incredibles shoes the parents apologizing to their kids but besides that Disney never shows parents apologizing to their children and letting them grow. This movie has so much meaning and gets me so emotional every watch
Actually lightning from volcanos is an actual real life occurrence. It's pretty awesome to look at actually
Idk exactly when but it’s confirmed that Moana gets a series and THIS is pure happiness for me!!
No way!
"THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE" NEXT PLEASE!
I am from Samoa... but this story is a combinations of all islands .. how our people got there... Even Maoris culture is there too.. (HAKKKA ) ... and the hello.... very emotional for us all
Lin-Manuel Maranda composed the music for this movie
@@summerrose8110 he was a Tony award winner for his show Hamilton which was fantastic

I believe the word you're looking for is "bittersweet"
Your eyes are bluer than the ocean in Moana.
PS IN THE HEIGHTS VIDEO COMING SOON? YA BOY IS EXCITED!
♥️♥️♥️♥️
In the Heights is my fav musical, I played ensemble for high school
Lin is the man really
Also, Brother Bear is such a good film as well. Hope you react to it soon.
Omg, Moana is one of my favorite movies so I got really excited when I saw the notification
Fun fact: hei hei means crazy. It's perfect. 👌
You are really funny
Polynesian stuff is amazing
My favourite reaction! I love your Heihei reactions heh
You know he should really be the one to have the ideas for the theme parks because he has created so many ideas for Disney to do as rides
Alan Tudyk: "I went to Julliard, you know"
The water looks so scrumptious i love it
New subscriber! Very glad you checked out this movie! Seeing this movie in theaters was a bit emotional for me--Moana's grandma reminds me of my late grandma from the Philippines, very sweet lady
Thank you so much for your videos, they have been one of my main distractions lately, it helps me so so much, love them.
Lin Manuel Miranda is also responsible for the music behind Encanto. Feel free to review it if you get the chance.
I like to think the heart of tefiti was keeping granny alive because she passed when she gave the heart to Moana
Funny thing is , is that my name is moanna, pronounced exactly like the movie
I just came from a Loki video and when you said *Lowkey happy* ...My God 🤣
Moana favorite song: We know the way
Favorite moment: Shark-head Maui and every Hey-hey moment
The little boy is the real star of this movie
You say a nice little wet high five, more like a wet slap upside the head for ignoring it.
😂
Have you seen Meet the Robinsons? I really love the movie
There’s a Polynesian resort @Disneyworld actually 🌴🐷🥥🐔🪨🌺
i'm so excited for you in the heights commentary/reaction!!!
Loved this movie and this reaction is fire
The crab is voiced by Jermaine Clement
My theory is she died the first time she went into the water, and now she's in her own heaven
Found your channel yesterday, I'm addicted
You are correct
Laughing. The songs in this film was great. I do love this reaction
Did you notice the baymax coconut
YO DONT GET ME STARTED ABOUT 21 CHUMP STREET IT MADE ME SO UPSET😭
Omg im so early i adore ur commentaries so much
Funny thing is that my name is Maui. So when I heard my name in the trailer, me and my family would make jokes about it.
If you like magic and heist movies you should react to now you see me 1 and 2 I’m obsessed with them both.
I saw multiple times when moana got stuck between a ROCK and a hard place it's a dwane johnson pun
Lin wrote the music
Hope you react to mama mia 2 too...
This is Polynesian culture not just Samoan
Fun fact. If I remember reading correctly. That baby turtle was suppose to be squirt
you should do finding dory it’s such a cute movie and it’s the most fabulous movie
There's an end credit scene with the 'shiny' crab
My favorite moment is the crab song
Well, it might actually be better to fall "this close" behind the boat than crash right on it sometimes. And regarding size of banana and Maui's hands: Moana's own height estimates over the internet range from 5'9" (which is already not bad for 14yo girl) to 7'6".
man shining is the best song.
Even if there wasn't a curse, the people would have been overfishing (both sides of the island reef) and polluting the island by staying on it, so they would have had to sail or perish.
I heard that Disney is making a live-action version of this movie. And Dwayne is reprising his role as Maui
The floaties is cute
I love your welcome
Those kakamora (?) boats/islands are lion turtles
@@summerrose8110 ok...
@@summerrose8110 i only said those are lion turrtles cuz i know what they are - bc i watched the show
lin acually did a verison of your welocme. it was very good
Omg I never noticed that at the end when they show his tattoo there’s a tattoo of her right next to it on his chest
Introducing Jermaine Clement
I love the chicken
Would love to see you react to Tin man mini series (3 episodes) and 10th kingdom (5) episodes I think you would love them.
The chicken ate the rock Johnson!!!
That’s the movie I need to see
Oh and sir, there is usually lightning in large volcanic eruptions. 🤙
You're Welcome and How far I go are Favorite my songs and Maui is my King 👑
Not only that but if there is no monster's out there then why do they need to stay on the island where it's safe? Safe from what? Nothing's out there, RIGHT?
I just realized that Hey-Hey is over 10 years old. What's the normal lifespan of a chicken, outside of a KFC, that is?
what always annoys me about the tweeting line is that CHICKEN-SCRATCH WAS RIGHT THERE
Nice
This movie was nominated for best original song but lost to another
