The casting for this entire movie was perfection! Plus it features one of my favorite celebrity couples - Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
I don’t know how this movie managed to do everything right but it really, really did lol. I think it started with the casting….it really was perfect for each character. The voices were right, styling was right, acting was right, chemistry between them was right…..and then you have the great storyline which just felt like Scooby Doo but with a big twist - it was similar to the older animated movies where supernatural things were actually happening, not just a man in a mask. Scooby Doo is a very hard series to try and re-do in any capacity. In my opinion the only good ones have been the originals from the 70s, A Pup Named Scooby Doo from the late 80s/early 90s, the Scooby Doo animated movies from the late 90s-early 00s (Zombie Island, Witch’s Ghost, Alien Invaders, Cyber Chase) and then this live action movie (and the sequel). I haven’t seen anything else that I’ve liked in a long time. I’ve tried watching some of the newer live action and the casting is always way off. The newer animated series tend to have really weird animation styles that never seem to mesh well. I would love to see a Scooby Doo live action series as long as the casting is perfect. If they did it with the same care as this movie they would have a home run.
Casey Kasem (the original VOA for Shaggy) approved of Matthew too which is great. Those two are the only voices I ever really liked as Shaggy so it’s great Matthew could take over after Casey’s passing.
Honestly, Scooby and Shaggy are my spirit animals. Fun-loving, food-loving (and yet Shaggy is skinnier than I am) and who has the most realistic reaction at seeing a monster: yelling and running away.
They couldn't have had a better cast for this movie. To me it always felt as if the actors literally just came straight out of the cartoon! They did such a brilliant job and the costumes and makeup are so amazing!!! I seriously do not have anything bad to say about this movie, it will always be one of my all time favorites!
God I felt that Mathew Lillard appreciation rant! I love him so much! You should see him in 13 Ghosts. Its a stupid horror movie but man is in one of those really fun bad horror movie.
Bonus Info: This movie was actually meant to be way more adult, but it just kept getting further toned down until it became essentially a kids movie. There was a Fred-Daphne-Velma love triangle and the girls were NOT fighting over Fred lol. Still quite a few adult joke Easter eggs in there though.
This is definitely a guilty pleasure film. Story could use some work, and cg is a bit back and forth, but the cast is so good, the costuming is on point for all the main characters, I love the look of the amusement park, it's clear that James Gunn was really trying to make this movie work and wanted to make this a funny parody/slash love letter to Scooby Doo, and there are parts where he succeeds, and I love the idea of making Scrappy the villian. Also, credit to Matthew Lillard and his 110% delivery for Shaggy because it ended up being so good he pretty much became shaggy for like the next almost 20 years and is still going if I'm not mistaken. Also, definitely watch the actors commentary if you haven't. It's so funny and it's clear they had so much fun and was really excited to come back for the sequel.
I love the scene with the instructional video because the slang used was intentionally out of date and incorrect for that time too. Such a good play on the outdated instructional video tapes that you had to watch for different things in school and workplaces at the time. And also a great play on how corporations try to appeal to young people but don't actually understand the culture.
"I am a loverboy of George Cloonian proportions." I love that it showed Pamela Anderson even considering probably entertaining the idea of getting with him.
"Hydrocolonic" refers to colon cleansing, which is when they stick a tube up your bum. That's the reason, lmao. Apparently it's often misheard as "hydrocronic," which is slang for marijuana, and you KNOW that wasn't an accident.
I could never look at Freddy in this movie the same way after learning that Freddy Prince Jr voiced The Iron Bull in the video game "Dragon Age: Inquisition." Everytime I see him I just think of him going "I caught the hints. You want to ride the bull." and "Actually, he's the one whose been taking it." 🤣
I used to watch the show when I was younger without my parents knowing cause they wouldn’t let me😂 please watch The Birdcage it’s one of my fave movies
I don't personally hate scrappy but he did apparently save the scooby doo franchise during his debut I think in the 70s but kinda overstayed his welcome probably another reason they threw him out of the van and left him in the middle of nowhere
Fun fact this film was made in Brisbane, Australia near where I live. The airport used is Brisbane international airport and the spooky island is a real island called tangalooma 👍🏼 Also that rollercoaster that is used in the film is real. It’s at movie world on the Gold Coast and I rode it when I was 11. I hated it but I love that I can say I rode it 😂
Spooky island is technically a real place in Queensland australia cause that’s where it was filmed! Its just not as decked out as the movie. They also have the spooky coaster in movie world aus which is based off the movie and the ride
I haven't watched yet but this movie was literally the birth of my sense of humor so I'm SUPER excited for your reaction and commentary! (also daphne blake supremecy tbh)
My husband hasn't seen this movie and we usually watch something with dinner. I just decided I'm going to have him watch this tonight. This video reminded me how much I loved this movie. Also, I'm a big fan of Matthew Lillard too!
Maybe you should watch Disney's The Black Cauldron it's definitely darker than most kid movies but it also has it's funny moments. The main villain in the movie still creeps out but it's still one of my favorite movies.
16:50 you mentioning Tim curry makes me think of the movie Ferngully. I don’t know if that was a movie you also watched as a child but that would be a really good reaction! Tim curry‘s vocals in that as Hexas is amazing ❤️
16:43 fun fact Tim Curry was going to be in this movie, I think as that character because he loves Scooby-Doo, then he found out Scrappy was going to be in this movie and he was out
Idk if you’ve seen it, but if you love Matthew Lillard, you HAVE to watch SLC Punk! His acting in that movie is so good 😭🖤 anyway, keep up the good work, dude! Your videos bring me so much joy
Scooby doo the movie was a weaker version of zombie island and Scooby Doo on zombie island and Scooby Doo the movie are both brilliant and enjoyable movie. You know after why scooby doo the mystery begins and curse of the lake monster came out then was just made to shit on the original Scooby-Doo Live Actions.
@@ethancoolbro18gamer86 it your opinion but I love the first one more t than the second one because it felt like action remake of zombie Island and it had Mr Bean.
Have you ever seen "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" 1988? Great cast. I can't believe this movie is rated PG. Well, it was the 80's. The mix of live action and animation is really well done, and not just for the time. It's also the only time you'll see Warner Brothers and Disney characters together. I've always love this movie.
AAH HI ive never been early to a video but i just wanted to say i love watching your movie reactions so much! they make my day every time one comes out! keep it up bestie
Some AWESOME MOVIE SUGGESTIONS to do next: Blonde & blonder, Buffy the vampire slayer, BRIDE OF CHUCKY, Bachelor party Vegas, THE BABYSITTER (1&2), Seed of Chucky, Charlie's angels, Dude where's my car, American pie(1-8), Escape room, No escape, Freaky friday, Final destination, Grizzly park, GAME NIGHT, Good luck Chuck, Horrible bosses, Hangover, Harold & Kumar, Hostel, Home alone, Hot chick, I know who killed me, I know what you did last summer, Identity thief, JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE, Jingle all the way, JENIFER'S BODY, JUMANJI (1&2&3), Knight and day, KILLERS, Keeping up with the Joneses, Let's go to prison, Let's be cops, Little man, Meet the parents, The mask, Miss congeniality, Maze runner, Mouse hunt, MEAN GIRLS, My best friend's girl, Piranha 3D/3DD, Police academy, Pet, READY OR NOT, ROAD TRIP/EUROTRIP, ROUGH NIGHT, REPLI KATE, Searching, Shark night, Scary movie, The spy who dumped me, SORORITY ROW, SORORITY BOYS, SHE'S THE MAN, Species, The stepfather, Sex tape, THIS MEANS WAR, There's something about Mary, Truth or dare, TRIANGLE, Urban legends, Van Wilder(1&2&3), WHITE CHICKS, Would you rather, Wild things, WHY HIM... 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
It's kinda my comfort movie too and I don't know why. Like I know it and the sequel are not "good" but I adore it. That said. I love scrappy and I never understood why people hated him
Interesting thing about this movie. The script was written by James Gunn (as in Guardians of the Galaxy James Gunn). And the script he originally written was suppose to be a lot more adult, it was going for a PG-13 rating but the script was given a R rating. Warner Bros though no longer liked the idea especially after more adult Jessy and the pussy cats movie bombed in the box office and forced the movie to be edited and toned down to a PG rating. Apparently there were even some shots of background girls that were topless and had to be CG with bikini tops on.
I love Scooby Doo so much it's just a classic and Mathew Lillard was perfect as shaggy and he's in the new five nights at Freddy's movie that's supposed to come out soon as well
“How can she afford that life style?”
Daphnes family is really rich
Fun fact: Daphne and Fred (Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr) are married in real life, since 2002.
Part of the reason they played each other best.
One of the best piece of news I ever got in my life! Their chemistry is just amazing and they are so cute together!!
Still married today?
@@octoniko pretty sure
@@octoniko Yep! Still married. I think they’ll have been married 20 years next year.
Fun Fact: Since the original voice actor retired, Mathew Lillard took over as the official voice of Shaggy in animation.
actually, in Korea, people watch scary movies in the summer. They say that scary movies give "chills" that cool you down during hot times.

What I wish they actually said instead of "whipped":
"Raggy, rour a rimp."
"I'm a simp? Yeah?"
As stated before it was 2002 “simp” wasn’t a term for whipped
Jesus I forgot Sugar Ray was in this movie

“Sugar Gay”

Scrappy as a monster saying “Seize them!”, “Scooby Doo, where are you?!”, and “Let’s finish this puppy NOW!!!”
