    Look at Alberto's reveal scene, he *wanted* to look scary, dangerous. Giulia suddenly saw the legend she grew up with thinking it was just a story to scare kids right in front of her, and it WAS scary.
    Until when they get back to her house, she had time to calm down and reflect. Beside, Luca was the one scared in his reveal scene, he wasn't trying to scare her and it was just his hands that turned.
    So yeah, it's not that she's okay with Luca but not with Alberto, but the circunstances of how the reveals happened.

      @Summer Rose The thing is, if this was a heterosexual ship, I bet almost everyone would ship it, and no one would complain. However, people in the LGBTQ+ community, including myself, don't have that much representation, especially in children's animation, unlike straight people. Me and others like myself are desperate for characters that represent our true selves. What's wrong with hoping for just one gay couple? At least Disney could give us that.

    I think that the difference Gulia's reaction to Alberto and Luca's true forms comes from the fact that with Alberto it was the initial shock. She lives in this town so she's also been taught that sea monsters are scary. However, after Alberto's reveal, she had some time to process in between leaving the beach and getting home.
    And, she's a smart girl, so as she processed what had happened, she realized that these two boys just came out of no where and if one was a sea monster, there's a good chance the other probably was too.

    • @ister2507
      @ister2507 Рік тому +4

      You can see how after Luca's reaction to his own betrayal Gulia looks at him realising that Luca and Alberto have been friends and Luca clearly had to be aware of Alberto being a sea monster. She doesn't realise the entire truth just yet but it clicks immediately when she pours water at Luca (that's why she says "Now I get it"). So like you've said, it's not as much of a shock. I guess the fact she bonded more with Luca also helps somewhat.
      Besides, Alberto tries to scare Giulia. I bet if he wouldn't make such an intimidating pose and facial expression (and they had a bit more time) she'd actually be OK with Alberto's conversion on the spot.

    I feel like the aggression towards Alberto was in response to the aggression he was showing to her at the time, which kinda perpetuated the stereotype of them being 'monsters'. Meanwhile, the reveal with Luca happened at a less tense moment when they weren't all hyped on adrenaline from a near death experience.

    Everyone wondered why Giulia doesn't get angry with Luca, while she treated Alberto badly: I simply think that on the way home she realised Luca is a sea monster too, so she was already prepared. With Alberto, instead, she was just caught off guard.

    You can't really compare Giulia finding out about Alberto and her finding out about Luca, because the situations were vastly different
    With Alberto, first off, they didn't have nearly the same bond as she had with Luca, Alberto to her was somewhat distant and grumpy, due to his jealousy, plus his reveal was way too sudden and scary, the fact that his entire body changed and his threatening posture, when she didn't even believe in sea monsters before touching the scales on his arm, it's natural that her immediate response is shock and fear and then when Luca cries out about the 'sea monster' too she switched into protective mode, thus the branch to keep Alberto away.
    With Luca on the other hand, Giulia and Luca had already been building a tighter bond with her sharing her knowledge with him and Luca showing nothing but admiration and curiosity. After Alberto's reveal, Giulia's had at least a moment to think while they went home, just a short moment to at least come to term with the fact that sea monsters do exist and that Alberto is one, so by the time she reveals Luca (only via his hands too, which must be a much less shocking sight than a full-on creature with sharp teeth, claws, glowing eyes and a swishing tail) the shock factor is gone so it's only a matter of finally putting two and two together and reacting more rationally.

    • @Bunny99s
      @Bunny99s Рік тому +1

      Right, also when Giulia emptied the glass of water onto luca he was actually very insecure and panicking and she actually wanted to calm him down. So luca at that moment certainly wasn't a threat to her. Also when luca realises the reveal he also appears very insecure as he tries to explain himself. Like you already said, Giulia at that time has already accepted that "sea monsters" actually exist and proably thought about the past days and that alberto was a nice guy and not a threat at all. It just takes some time to process those thoughts. That's also why Giulia didn't say anything to her dad because she knew that it would probably send half of the village out to hunt for the "monster".
      I'm sure she actually thought about the relationship between luca and alberto. Of course in reality she would have asked luca if he knew that about alberto. So the movie makes a quite convenient cut into the future without any conversations in between. This is kind of a plot hole, but we as the audience shouldn't have too much time to think about it either, that's why it's more or less immediately followed by luca's reveal :)
      A lot people have complained about certain parts are too rushed (such as the sudden acceptance of the whole village at the end). However I think those are minor details. I mean there are much worse plot holes in other movies ^^.

    • @MetaLatias5
      @MetaLatias5 Рік тому +1

      @@Bunny99s tbh I don't even think that Giulia not asking Luca if he knew about Alberto was a plot hole.
      When Alberto revealed himself Luca acted shocked, pointed at him and cried out about the 'sea monster', which would've been a clear sign that he didn't know, at least up until his own reveal. Up until then Giulia would've figured that Luca was just as shocked as she was, if not even more so and the moment she realized that Luca is a 'sea monster' as well she put two and two together that he had actually known, but been trying to keep his own secret intact by pretending that he hadn't known

    • @Bunny99s
      @Bunny99s Рік тому

      @@MetaLatias5 Sure, but that's not the plot hole. What do you think they were talking about when they went back home? That of course took a while and after such an experience you don't just chit chat about the weather :) Whatever the conversaion would have been, it would be about alberto, maybe the race (which would involve alberto). I can't think of any reasonable conversation between the scene at the shore and the next scene at giulia's home.

    How do I know? Because that's exactly what happened when they were doing finding Nemo. When they first showed the water effects, they were actually forced to do it all over again because it was TOO realistic. Their reasoning is that if the water looks too realistic, people will think they're looking at a documentary instead of an animated movie, and thus leave before the movies over.

    An incredible film, from the animation to the music to the story. The bond forged between Luca and Alberto is so moving (not to leave out Guilia, who plays a pivotal role in the story and dynamic as well). Finding your place, figuring out how to accept yourself despite what people expect or want from you, and accepting the love people give you are themes this story tackles so well.
    Perspective is important for the characters just as much as in real life and I like that different people can watch this and come away feeling grateful or nostalgic for friendships that made them feel like they could be themselves, or that they can watch this and find a little acceptance in a way they haven’t been shown irl. It’s a beautiful story regardless of your own experience, or maybe because of.
    Alberto and Luca make each other feel seen and that’s so cool. I appreciate the interpretation some ppl have of the story as a metaphor for coming out, and the boys relationship is wholesome and sweet either way.

      Alberto was looking scary on purpose to get a certain reaction out of her just so he could prove to Luca that he was right. Alberto was trying to manipulate the situation so it would go his way. By the time Luca was revealed Guilia had time to reflect and think about what happened and just sea monsters in general, and it makes sense that Alberto wouldn't be the only one to be a sea monster, they are also both extremely under educated and they suddenly reel in loads of fish when those two are involved. Idk about "in love". But theyre definitely close. Aberto literally has no one else but Luca so thats probaly why hes the most attached. Luca on the other hand is so easy to influence, when he met Alberto he immediately wanted to do whatever he did ex he wanted a Vespa because Aberto did, after he met Giulia he did the same thing by sticking around to help her win the race.lol🤣 But i guess after, Luca finally got a dream of his own and that was to go school.
      Okay so quick recap. Alberto dreams for a Vespa, has no family.
      Guilia dreams to finally put a stop to Ecoli reign of terror and feel accepted😅
      And Luca dreams to go to school, ie. Learn new things cuase welll... hes curious and adventurous.
      And yes i enjoyed writing all of this. Not sure if this proves anything though, im just being a nerd. And yes i do think the movie can be an allegory for being queer and not being accepted. Especially when the old lady couple revealed themselves at the end. On the other hand theres little evidence to say theyre in love other than "Alberto being jealous". So idk.
      Please dont attack me bc i know ppl get hype for no reason. Im just here chilling, i dont want any angry mobs.

    Fish are livestock/animals. You shear sheep for wool and sometimes butcher sheep for meat. Different sheep are treated and bred for different purposes. It seems that is the same with fish. There are some tame looking guppy things, wild tuna looking fish, and all manner of creatures living in the water. Sharks might be coded like tigers or lions, the crab is coded like a show dog or cat

    I just watched the movie to WATCH THIS REACTION. I respectfully thought the movie was ok 3 1/2 stars.
    Alberto is lonely and tries to act like he knows everything to seem more adult and confident. His friendship with Luca is honestly not the healthiest. Especially during the break up act... Alberto turns kinda toxic but he is a kid and they learn overtime. Alberto's not a bad kid but there is room for improvement.
    Luca also did something bad during the final act but at least he apologized for it. Alberto made up for his mistake kinda by bringing the umbrella I think.
    The girl and her father is the real MVP of this movie.
    I also love that they kept kids as kids who aren't the LEAST interested nor do they have a thing for romance. They're just kids being kids. BEST CHOICE EVER MADE IN THE HISTORY OF EVER.

    it’s actually crazy how the film was so obviously a metaphor for the queer experience to me and other queer people but now that i’m seeing the reaction of cishet people they’re just not interpreting it like that at all (i don’t mean that in a bad way, i understand we all have different experiences that make us interpret media in different ways, i just thought it was kinda interesting to point that out)

    • @firepower7654
      @firepower7654 2 роки тому +1

      The original script called for Luca to have a romantic interest in Giulia. It had made it all the way to the story board, but they decided that a romantic angle would take away from the main themes of friendship, pushing ones self out of their comfort zone, family and self sacrifice. However, you being able to relate to this story in a different way just shows the beauty of art and we can all put ourselves into the art and take something personal away.

    Loved the movie. But I had a somewhat different take on it. All the adult male sea monsters are dimwitted and ineffectual. The real authority and wisdom is in the hands (fins?) of the female sea monster such as Luca's mother and grandmother. By escaping the sea Alberto and Luca are escaping their own eventual castration.
