The friends of the killer who didn't turn him in when he asked for a fake alibi should get a punishent as well. Disgusting .
It stated in the video that three days later he told the truth to the police
I know; I reacted when I heard that. Lying to the police like that deserves jail time.
I agree that it’s despicable. Maybe he lied to his friends, they believed him, and that’s why they went along with it. One can hope.
At a minimum, it's obstruction of justice...
there is a two year statute of limitations on obstruction of justice in the state of new york.
Poor Mandy. Not that any person who takes a ride "deserves" to be murdered, but she really did nothing wrong. She knew him. She probably even felt relieved when he pulled over so she wouldn't have to walk alone and would get home safely. What a monster.
Her BF was no angel either. Maybe her strict upbringing led to her being attracted to "Bad Boys." Sad.
Plus, her BF's semen was still in her panties three days later?
Completely agree with your comment.
A person that I knew and considered a friend spiked my drink when I was 39 years old. It could happen to anyone at any age. Luckily for me as soon as I started feeling "weird" I locked myself in another room.
@@waverider8549 Wow, that was quick thinking on your part, and brave, I might add. Unfortunately, a lot of women find themselves in perilous situations because they don't want to be seen as rude, or over-reacting. I'm glad you had your wits about you enough to realize something was not right, and protect yourself. Sickening that someone you "considered a friend" would try this.
I am glad they never gave up on her case AND also did not rush into trial with questionable evidence, or go after the wrong suspect. I am glad forensic technologies have come so far.
It always hurts, though, when police and everybody else in a community know that the guilty person hasn't been prosecuted and is living a free life because there isn't iron-clad evidence to seek an indictment. Some will argue that justice delayed is justice denied, or that prosecutors should have tried this sociopath in 1993, but if he had beaten the charge then, the no-double-jeopardy clause in the fed const. and I assume it's also in NY state's const., would bar retrial even though DNA analysis would later point unmistakeably to the def in this vid. I'm sure police also checked out the boyfriend who moved to Fla, to make sure he was in fact in Fla, or at least nowhere near the town where this happened, on the date it happened.
Me too
Wow. How awful to be killed by someone you knew, thinking you could trust them.
Thank you for this one. I’m glad the family finally got justice.
You're right, but unfortunately it happens all the time and it has probably happened in many other unsolved murders and disappearances.
It's the age-old story, a girl went missing after she broke away from the group of friends she was with. There are guys that drive around the streets of America at night looking for girls like Mandy. DNA is very impressive.
@@fernfreeman1729 an acquaintance from school giving you a lift home but killing you instead? not really an ‘age-old story’. The 90’s were my teen years too. That experience never happened to me, not even close. Since most teenager boys aren’t psychopaths and will take no for an answer, let alone not kill you, odds of this happening are pretty low.
@@Christophertracy09 I think a schoolmate killing a girl who rejects him is pretty classic. Classic true crime, anyway. And a female being killed after going her own way, after seeing friends, is even more common.
It happens a lot. Most murders and rapes are commited by someone the victim knows.
It’s so crazy how you can know someone but not know them at all.
They don’t show their true self. This was just greed and selfishness. He wanted her and he literally took her.
Perhaps he was just a very casual acquaintance.

I admire your commitment that victims of wickedness are not forgotten.

Totally agree with you Phil. I really enjoy this channel because it is well researched and the beautiful voice is a bonus. I'm so sad that her dad didn't see this justice. Love from South Africa ❤🇿🇦🇿🇦
Thank you.
Regrettably by the evil shallow and callous types. I trust you do not count yourself as such
Not only not admitting his guilt but trying to blame an innocent man for his crime. It's just the worst.
Unfortunately that has happened many times as well.A creature who had raped and murdered a pregnant woman years ago in Ohio had tried to frame his brother in law for the crimes. He thought that the police were far too stupid to catch him but he was wrong. The police and the district attorney saw through his bullshit and proved beyond any doubt that he was the killer. He was convicted, sentenced to death and executed and that's exactly what should have happened to him.
A most likely non-existent man.
@@franciswhite4032 Well no, the man he put the blame on was her ex who had moved to Florida. Very much existent.
@@MVK123 I was referring to the Puerto Rican.
@@franciswhite4032 When I said he was blaming an innocent man I assumed it was implied that I was referring to a real person as I would not refer to a non-existent individual as innocent nor guilty.

What a POS.He didn't even have the guts or the decency to admit that he was guilty and take the punishment like a goddamn man.
and his attorney complained that sending him to prison for life wasnt 'justice'.
well, she is right. he should have been hanged.

You're a guy - what makes these men go so beserk, in your opinion ? Is it they have an overpowering sex drive, or are they angry at being humliated ?(IN YOUR OPINION of course)

I feel so sad when parents lose an only child to murder.
Whether an only child, or one of many, makes no difference surely - it's still the same level of tragedy.
@@TrueBrit1..Nope, not to the parents of an only child, it's not. It is the same as parents of several children, losing all of them at once. I knew some clueless simpleton like yourself would make this comment. You just don't get it, do you. It has to do with degrees of loss.
@@TrueBrit1 If you are the parents of let’s say Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby, and Cindy and one of them (let’s say Cindy) is murdered … your hearts are broken, you’re always going to grieve your child, you will be obsessed with catching and punishing her murderer . . . but you do still have five children to love and raise and see grow to adulthood and maybe even give you grandchildren. If anyone tried to console you by saying “thank God you still have other children!”, they would be a total @$$h*le, but it is also totally true. If you are the parents of one child and he or she is murdered, their life has been stolen from them and in a sense yours has been too. Your happy hopes for any future family have completely disappeared. It is only “the same level of tragedy” if ALL of someone’s children were murdered cuz that only child is ALL parents of singletons have. Not to be funny but it’s just math! 💯 % Thanks for hearing me out.
@@TrueBrit1 Sorry, I agree with the OP. If you're not an only child or parents of an only child, you have no idea, no clue. I am an only child.
@@rullmourn1142 Absolutely. I am an only child and know full well the focus my parents had for me. I was EVERYTHING to them. I was their entire world. Not saying others don't suffer terrible grief, it's just not the end of their world.
I'm so sorry to hear about Mandy. It never ceases to amaze me that sooo many crimes take place in the middle of the night with usually some alcohol or drugs involved. I just hope that young kids from say 17 to 25 take a look at these cases and realize that something horrible can happen to them under these circumstances. My 19 yo godson and his 19 yo gf were killed at 2 in the morning after a party. A speeding cop who was drag racing with another cop happened to hit their car and they were both DOA. Thank God, although the "kids" had some alcohol and pot in their system, the cop didn't get away with murdering them.
Please stay safe everyone. GOD BLESS Mandy, May she RIP.
The girl that he took to the park just weeks before he murdered Mandy surely dodged a bullet. May he rot in jail, in the stench of his denial
It never ceases to amaze me how DNA evidence can bring closure to a decades old cold case.
Beautifully done, HC. Such thoughtful and sensitive coverage of this terrible crime and its aftermath.
Sad her young life was cut short ,just an average teen living life . No one should judge her she was no worse than other 17 year old and she didn't ask to be murdered.
It’s surprising that he hadn’t been arrested for similar crimes after what he did to Mandy. I’m happy her mother was able to see the resolution.
You know I've seen enough videos like this to realize there are some that do this once, and never again, like the teacher that was killed by a teenager and years laterhewas found guilty but all the meanwhile he Madea family went to church and had a normal job.
It's obvious that the narrator is reading the script. She pauses in awkward points in statements.

I grew up near North Tonawanda. I graduated high school in 1994 and I remember Mandy being missing was a huge part of my junior year. Kind of creepy to have something that was a part of my life, covered on a true crime channel.
I find this mental tbh because I’m born in Bahrain (middle east country) and we literally have no crimes. Its just sad that these things often happen in the states. No one deserves to be murdered for being too innocent in life
I remember this being discussed on the radio back then.

Wow-she was the exact same age as I am-I am now 46, what a tragic story! So glad they solver her case-RIP Mandy
What a cocky SOB. All his “maneuvering” just made them more sure and determined. Good for that team.
There's something gratifying in discovering an old case that eventually got solved. A crime happen to me a long time ago, and I played nice for my own safety. I never filed charges, so I don't know if this person continued to do the same thing to others. By the time I felt safe, a statute of limitations had passed, and no charges could be filed. That left a hole in me that feels a little more full every time I see a video like this. Thank you for sharing!
Sometimes you HAVE to play it safe. Panicking or getting angry at your attacker often makes things much worse.
@@TREVASLARK Yes, and as a minor, I was probably a lot easier to scare and manipulate into silence. While I no longer feel traumatized, it definitely feels good to see justice happening for someone else. I wish she didn't have to die this way. Sounds like she fought, which I respect too, but sometimes just cooperating with the perpetrator is safer.
Ik the feeling but it's important to remember that even if the person continues to hurt others, it's not your fault. You did what you had to do to come out alive. It's not your job to keep them from hurting others; they are responsible for keeping themselves from hurting others.
Thank you. This video was very well made and respectful of the family. Nearly 30 years of knowing who did it without the needed proof is awful
Good that there's finally a conclusion to this case unfortunately however her perpetrator was a free man for 25 years so he will never be brought to the sort of justice he truly deserves and it's sad for her mom who was robbed of her only child because of that monster's actions and even though he's finally convicted it will never bring mandy back.
At least he will die in prison labeled a murderer..that is at least some justice for her loved ones. 💔
It is wonderful to see so many of these cold cases being solved with today's technology. The time is coming when nobody will get away with anything

Hope to God you're right.
If your government asked citizens for their DNA to solve crime/coldcases would you obliged?

Also, thanks for pronouncing North Tonawanda correctly.
He would've been found guilty from all of the circumstantial evidence if the DA had the guts to take him to trial back then.

They had a lot of circumstantial evidence in 1993. They have convicted people for less evidence but I guess they needed to make sure they got the DNA evidence. I hope the killer has been very worried for the past few years knowing that DNA evidence would eventually be available for his conviction.
I can't even imagine how many people out there in the 80s 70s 60s 50s in before and all that we're getting away with all these murders but they're eventually get caught it's so surreal
If the DNA evidence has been preserved, any crime can be solved. What stuns me is how they saved the evidence back then even though they did not have the means to test it.
We've missed you. Thanks.

@@glitter-lk5dz yeah, I also think she didn't know, I just thought it was a cruel ironic twist of fate, almost like a disrespect to her memory by someone who once presumably loved her 😔
I'd be curious as to what those charges actually entailed. There's a big difference between criminal negligence (like if your dog is loose and attacks somebody else's dog) versus actual mutilation and torture. I have trouble believing that Mandy would've been with someone who committed any sort of brutality towards animals. Being that she loved animals so much, she was most likely surrounded by them and a partner who was that hostile towards them in his private life would certainly show some manner of discomfort around them in public.
Thank you!
Rest In Peace Mandy.
Great video as usual. Thanks.
How did the witnesses accounts not amount to anything?. How did him being seen washing evidence off his car at 2am in the morning not account for anything? How did him getting his friend to lie as an alibi not account for anything? He was obviously as guilty as sin. How did he remain free for 25 years with all that evidence...? WTF??
It's all circumstantial unfortunately. They needed something more direct.

Thank-you so much 👏🏽👏🏽🥰
A thousand kudos to district attorney Brian D Seaman and all the detectives and police and law officers who kept this case alive and brought it to its conclusion, and endless sympathy for Mandy's unlucky parents. This is the type of case that makes me think that an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is a very good idea. The murderer should have his pubes pulled off every day for the rest of his life and at the end of his 25 years in prison ( I wish it was solitary confinement within a coffin) he should be sent straight to the electric chair one fine, early morning.
Man, if this man wins his appeal, it woould mean the justice system sucks! Who knows how many other scores of innocent men and women this criminal has victimised over his long life of 46 years!!
A schoolmate picked her up and killed her. What are the odds the psycho of the school would be the one to give her a ride? So horrific. The 90’s were my teenage years too. I’m so glad I didn’t have that experience.
When a woman or especially a girl
is alone on the street at night, she's considered to be a very suitable target by any psycho who sees her.
The odds are pretty high that she'll be noticed, if not by a schoolmate, then by an older creep.
Because what do predators do?
They scan for prey.
In the vehicle beside me in a grocery store parking lot, a weirdo was using binoculars to hone in on a group of schoolgirls.

I wonder if Mandy had undiagnosed Williams Syndrome. Nicknamed the "happy syndrome," it is a genetic disorder marked by extreme love and trust of everyone due to increased levels of oxytocin in the brain.
WS usually shows in the development of the face & Mandy didn't appear to have that
Seems to me they had enough to convict Belstadt at the time of the crime. Long before DNA made things fool-proof, we had a thing called "preponderance of evidence". He should have been tried immediately.
Right! But more than a few people were wrongly sentenced to prison on circumstantial evidence. DNA has set them free.
Regardless of whether my underage teen is trustworthy or not I would never allow my underage daughter go to parties where drinking is involved.

The fact that there are still people out there that know they took someone's life and continue to live as if nothing has happened. How can their conscience not eat at them????? How can they feel no shame or guilt?!?!
