Sorry about the weird Senko/reversed bits. For some reason those parts kept getting claimed and I didn’t have an animated background for JoJo to put behind those clips! Also my Twitter is @AntwanShiro go follow for updates about videos and stuff! *IMPORTANT* Also Also, its not a spoiler for Part 6, I probably should've explained it sooner but it's a flashback. Hence why I put it in between what happens in Part 1 and Part 3 since that's when the flashback took place.
Tbh though this strategy Jotaro uses can be very useful for more then just fighting. Being analytical while being pissed off means that you are reading actions and making right movements while at your strongest state.
Well technically the Doom Slayer needs the werewithall to navigate through a hellscape infested with demons using nothing but his trusty shotgun and his brain. I'd say while the Doomslayer is a bloody maniac, he is very efficient in the art of battle and using his abilities at their best, so that's actually a pretty great comparison there. Rip and Yare Yare Daze.
@@regeleleu8814 my canon is from that one comic where joseph meets jonathan and jonathan scolds him for not being a gentleman. while scolding joseph he lets slip that jotaro and the speedwagon foundation are trying to revive him and he will be going back soon. that causes joseph to be like: LIGHTBULB, and just runs back to the living world. Then he wakes up, uses hermit purple to dim the lights, and pretends to be dio
I never really thought about it until you mentioned that DIO were gauging Jotaro to see if he were up against another Jonathan, but I wonder if he underestimated Jotaro because he believed that Jonathan were such a worthy foe because of that signature drive and passion of his that burned brightly even in the face of impossible odds. After all, Jonathan was a very openly emotional and passionate individual. Jotaro, on the other hand, keeps his anger focused inwards. He's no less driven, but he may have seemed apathetic in DIO's eyes, who did not realize that Jotaro's emotions burned just as brightly as Jonathan's did underneath the surface. The fact that this stone-faced human kept scoring hit after hit must've been vexing to DIO, as he did not realize that he were actually experiencing the righteous fury, honor and passion of the Joestar bloodline yet again until it was too late.
So in an earlier scene of Part 3 Dio has a discussion with Enyaba about the meaning of life, in which he states that the meaning of life is to conquer fear. Dio's stand, The World, not only had better time stop capabilities but was stronger and faster than Star Platinum, and Dio has far greater durability and physical capabilities as a vampire. All he had to do was take Jotaro head on to win, and yet the moment Jotaro developed the same power as him, the moment Dio shifted from being invincible to stronger, he started to avoid that confrontation like the plague. At one point the thought of Jotaro still being alive is enough to make him leap back like a panicked animal. Even at the end, when he had overcome his limits yet again and was dead set on finishing it, instead of simply stopping time and rushing Jotaro leverage his strength he goes off to find a road roller to put in between himself and Jotaro just so its not a straight contest. Dio very much could have won, but he was unable to conquer his fear of losing and kept fighting too cautiously. This gave Jotaro more time. Jotaro conquered his fear, Dio didn't. That's why Dio lost. That's my personal interpretation of the fight anyways.
That also works well themathically with Jotaro, starting off shooting himself to prove a point and evolving to things like the bluffing against the two D'Arbys
@@epigone1796 Agreed. If I was Dio I would have not sent anyone to go after the Star Dust Crusaders but call every stand user under my command and wait for them in Egypt. Then once they came into my home everyone attacked and killed them.
@@epigone1796 I mean you're right but Dio was also refining his power while his minions were just buying him time. He went from being able to stop time for 3 sec to 4 to 5.
yeah, Dio underestimated Jotaro’s strength and abilities and overestimated his own (similar to how he did in part 1). he assumed that Jotaro would be defeated by the stand users he sent after him, and he assumed that training his new power alone would be enough to defeat Jotaro and the crusaders. Dio didn’t take into account that the stand users he was sending would work as training for Jotaro, and he didn’t consider that he himself wasn’t getting any combat experience with his own stand. however, I think the sheer amount of stand users he sent to overwhelm the crusaders also sort of shows the fear that Dio has towards the Joestars at the back of his mind; he’s sending literally everyone he has at them, instead of just honing his own abilities and waiting for the crusaders to arrive and defeating them when they do. yikes I started rambling sorry lol
Uh, but Jonathan's body accepted DIO's head since he bloodsucked Joseph and he had plenty of Joestar's blood, so he didn't have any weak part of his body
@@Gaonkkk Jotaro already knew Dio stand was weaker than his , that's why he said that you can heal but I would still kill you, star platinum destructive power is far greater than dio and dio can't heal from it
@The Gaonk Yes and no, the issue is that Dio was still regenerating from the kick by Star Platinum, so even if Jonathan's body 100% accepted him it's still possible that because he was still sorta regenerating he was in a weaken state. Also don't forget Joseph was a Hamon user, so even if Jonathan's body accepted DIO, Joseph's blood still had Hamon in it, which played a role in bringing him back to life at the end of the fight. So DIO was in a weird state of being both stronger and also more vulnerable than he was previously.

@@gottalook2wice0isverycoolyes the picture of the fly that only was in egypt. how star platinum drew it because he has great eye sight (from JoJo's/joseph's spirit photo)
I always figured Star Platinum’s ability wasn’t stopping time, but rather the ability to overcome. That is to say, it will allow the user to develop over time what they need to win the fight, which is why it gained the ability to match the world, and then the ability to move even Star Platinum itself didn’t initiate the time stop.

@@CODA96 He did try to use hamon through Hermit Purple, there's no way Joseph could punch DIO. The whole Star Platinum got weaker because he didn't train always felt like an extreme cope out, Jotaro was looking for the arrow but didn't bother to at least stay as strong as he was, so much so that even though he beat the main antagonist of the whole saga at his peak now he loses to a rat. I rather Jotaro never appeared again after part 3.
@@night1952 Jotaro also wasnt the Main JoJo in 4, we have seen this time and time again... and yet he still steals the kill from Josuke. All just because Koichi was a really reliable guy. But thats the thing, Jotaro in Part 3 was at his peak, not in 4. But like i said its mainly due to the fact that the MC has to shine and that was Josuke.
short answer: he pissed him off long answer: getting pissed off makes jotaro stronger. so in the end jotaro wasn't saying "you really pissed me off" to be edgy or to piss dio off, but he was speaking facts.
And the sole fact that dio's tactics are to use other people emotion against them by put others down. He constantly tried to make jotaro angrier and angrier, which inturn made jotaro more analytical and strong.
11:00 Pretty much this, the angrier Jotaro got the more serious and dangerous he got. It was the same reason why Dio lost to Jonathan too and it was stupider on his part there since he was aware of that. Because Dio even points out in Phantom Blood that Jonathan gets more dangerous and more determined the angrier he gets yet he still underestimates him until their last fight. You can say that the one fight Dio took very seriously is the one fight he won and that was the fight in the boat against Jonathan. He took that seriously because he was just a head there and felt that he was at a disadvantage and could legit lose to Jonathan. At that point he was also very respectful of Jonathan (mostly for beating Dio numerous times and because Jonathan's interference led to him being a vampire) and even got scared when Jonathan used his hamon and yelled at Wang Chan several times to not underestimate Jonathan and not to insult him. It was ultimately Dio's then new ripper eyes move that was Jonathan's undoing since Jonathan never managed to counter that move. In contrast Dio saw Jotaro and Joseph as nuisances more than main threats. I know Araki said that Dio's main goal wasn't even to kill Jonathan's descendants but that he wanted them gone before they could legit threaten them. Also Dio actually met and knew Jotaro and Joseph in a span of one day and never knew them personally like he knew Jonathan whom he grew up with, saw as an equal towards the end, and even held some form of emotion towards him (he mentions to Jonathan he didn't want to personally kill him because of they grew up together and realized that he had to overcome that weakness). And when Dio already had Jonathan's body (which was rejecting Dio and he ended up overlooking that once he drank Joseph's blood) well it was very easy for him to underestimate someone like Jotaro.
Didn't kakyoin have main character energy yet lost and died so you can't use that more like Jotaro won because he had a slight advantage because the left side of Dio's body was weak which Dio forgot so kicked Jotaro with The World and Jotaro punched Dios left leg as The World Kicks him which makes a small crack in the stand which the crack got bigger which utterly defeated.
I honestly see Dio's monologue to Polnareff in Part 3 as a great example. Not only does it set up part 6 way beforehand, but also gives a glimpse into his philosophy and development in character after he lost to Jonathan (Twice). Him talking about humans wishing for peace of mind also acts as a look at his newfound paranoia, his fear of him loosing the advantage, so he wants to find a way to gain the upper hand against fate itself, thus giving him peace of mind.
@@pkmntrainerred4247His need for peace of mind also later sets up the motivation for Kira in Part 4, and even still the motivation for Diavolo in Part 5. And the latter two both have indirect connections and parallels to DIO, and powers match with his as well. And then Pucci ties it all back together. It's all just so amazing how nicely everything loops back around thematically!

@@mr_j_the_rebel6714 the thing is girono literally is Johnathan kid, he was born with black hair, it turned blonde when dio died or when dio got his stand or whatever which one it was.
to be honest the most logical answer to dio dying would be this: since I never saw jonathan or dio drink milk in phantom blood and since dio stole jonathans body and slept underwater for about one hundred years he was lacking calcium so the reason he died was because his bones were weak asf and that was the thing that lead to his defeat
he's a vampire drinking blood and really I'm pretty sure he kept in good shape, I agree sleeping for a hundred years underwater is gonna take a toll, you can look at lactose interolent people that dont drink any milk and they usually take nutrients from other foods, idk why the writers would include a milk drinking scene so I dont completely agree. Also drinking blood gives you calcium and Vitamin D, example the Aztecs also drank blood. Muscle recovery is difficult relying only on blood and maybe a few other foods or drinks. Overall I agree with your opinion.

I actually like the "You pissed me the fuck off" explanation better. Its just so badass that this guy got pissed of and he beat the shit out of the guy that pissed him off
I agree because it goes with his character and overall "front" I guess you can say where he tries to hide all the displeasure in him and I am surprised it took people so long to believe that Jotaro had a good explanation for why he won against dio
It’s 100% accurate, but deeper than most people give it credit for. Backwards, Jotaro could have said “you should have killed me before you killed my grandfather and friends” The entire fight as a whole is the crusaders vs Dio, not just Jotaro vs Dio. Even at Jotaro’s entrance to the fight, polnaref still joins in after, he had help. Jotaro still almost died, but witnessing his grandpa’s death was a mistake for two reasons… 1)It allowed him to see in TimeStop for the first time 2)It pissed him the hell off
I honestly love Jotaro's explanation as to why he wins, lol. It's so badass. The more pissed off he gets, the smarter and stronger he gets out of spite for his opponent. It's great and absurdly over the top just like the spirit of JoJo's in general ;)
I usually have a very hard time watching analytical videos of JoJo because I often find the conclusions made to be "shallow" and underappreciative in terms of Araki's capabilities of writing manga. This video was a massive exception of that. Incredibly well thought out video from start to finish and very insightful. Excellent video!
@@Vario69 yet Jotaro walks off a josephs blood dio barrage and a literal kick barrage that sounded like a machine gun.And it’s a human. That’s like putting Lebron James up against a 1st grader.
Dio using knives and a steam roller is actually genius, as he knows coming close to jotaro would mean a risk but has more stopped time ability, he uses these objects as a shield AND a sword against a powerless Jotaro. Funnily enough the trope of throwing knives in stopped time has been used a lot in other franchises where it makes no sense for the one stopping time to not just stab their enemy while they can't move or see
@@Alzeal07 they throw the knife so they dont get blood on themself in frozen time, takes less distance effort, and the velocity gain from acting makes projectiles accelerate way way faster. Like i fyou can move at normal speed in 0.1% time, throwing a knife it'll become mach speed or something, if you don't damage it. So it requires finesse to not destroy your own knife tbh and have it reach the target. And velocity causes impact to grow exponentially as it increases. 4m/s = 16 impact, 5m/s = 25. Because deceleration from physical matter is not instant and it competes. Moving a knife 1 centimeter in 0.0001% time will make it move 100m/s. This is why it matters that Star Platinum is hyper-precise. You need magnitudes more precision in frozen time imo. And it might be why Star Platinum is low range and insanely powerful to begin with. Time is already slowed for it. Prolly the only reason Jotaro or Dio can move through it is because of their stands granting them extra properties or the air friction would make them combust. So time is probably not fully linear during timefreeze.
@@tafazzi-on-discord of course but Joestar blood is infused with their gaming chairs to optimize the sheer power and efficiency of their skill without giving a shit about the pain involved or the blood lost
I like the explanation "you pissed me off" because it implies Jotaro has a sense of humanity and doesn't aim to be lethal against the rest of his opponents, yet DIO deserved it.
I also feel that Jotaro isn’t as articulate as Johnathan was, nor as sharp with his tongue as Joesph. Rather he will tell things exactly how he feels, and sometimes spends a good whole of thinking of something cool to say. Sure there are tactical reasons, but Jotaro was just angry enough to want the win, because Dio trampling over everyone’s dreams was the greatest injustice imaginable in his eyes. Pretty sure all Jojo’s feel that way, the real difference is how they project themselves. But of course being a stoic teenager who typically doesn’t vocalise everything he’s thinking? “You pissed me the fuck off” is as much explanation as a corpse deserves.
He does! The first stand user he defeats (besides himself?), Kakyoin, comes at him and at innocent people, and yet Jotaro literally *saves his life*! He’s driven by his fury at Dio to literally cross the world to kick his ass in, for the people he hurts, including his own family. He wasn’t sold in the first episode I think, but once he realized the stakes and they kept reinforcing themselves again, and once he realized how he could help everyone he cares about by fighting Dio, it was a no-brainer for him. He’s a good boy!
The reason he beat dio was actually revealed earlier in the part. It was a chekov's gun. Dio mentioned that his left side was weaker than his right because he hadn't fully bonded with Jonathan's body. Jotaro attacked dio's left side and because the rest of his body is so strong compared to his left side, he kind of just blew up like a prince Rupert's drop when you break it's one weak spot, the tail

I've heard a theory that stand abilities are based on the users way of solving problems, and that's why new stand users can start using them so early, ex. Koichi using Echoes similarly between the first fight of act 1 to maybe even some of the last with act 2, with Jotaro if he needs a moment to think, that explains why he could stop time so well on its first use.
@@AFAanimations um, stone ocean ends with main antagonist no longer existing and all but 2 of the main characters living better versions of their lives, phantom blood i somewhat agree with you on
I would also like to add that DIO's confidence became arrogance. He could have taken the heads off all the Crusaders' shoulders when they were in the mansion but he decided to drag it out and it let Jotaro have a chance.
He wanted to test Jotaro's stand against his own. The reason he didn't kill all the crusaders right then and there is that it would've been too quick. Too quick for Jotaro to get properly angry. He wanted to test Jotaro after he aggravated him by killing Kakyoin and later, Joseph, right in front of him. He wanted Jotaro to be on the edge, but ironically, that is what caused his downfall in the end.
@@regionfuego6 He had entire minutes to kill polnareff, specially in the stairs scene. There's a way in which he coul've killed Jotaro easily. In the early Dio vs Jotaro scenes it is shown in the anime that the knives that Dio throws in stopped time eventually stop themselves in mid air. This is true for more objects like the road roller itself (you can see how the dust eventually stops in mid air too) My point is that you can just stop time, approach Jotaro at a range in which the knives will only stop *after* damaging Jotaro's body. If you do this, you are basically *forcing* Jotaro to act in stop time, and he has only 1-3 seconds. You must use at least 1 knife the first second of stopped time, another one in second 2... You just make sure that at least 1 knife cuts Jotaro's throat. He may stop 1, maybe 2, even 3... but 5 seconds will always be more than 3 seconds. It's impossible to lose.
@@Random_person98 The Polnareff scene was DIO mostly just trying to intimidate Polnareff into doing his bidding once more. DIO's priority was to work the least himself until he had no other option, Keep in mind that the moment DIO decided to go kill Polnareff is when the Crusaders arrived. And you might even argue that Polnareff screwed up Jotaro even harder later on but that's unrelated. On your second point, I don't understand what you mean. If you talk about the scene where Jotaro was pretending to be dead you can argue that DIO just didn't had as many knives as he had before, only keeping 2 or 5 left with him. He even did what you suggested previously, just didn't expected Jotaro to keep books in him to be safe from the damage.
Ultimately if you compare Dio and Giorno personalities I'd say it shows each of dios flaws that cause his losses and what he'd be like if he was without them. Giorno will plan out everything calmly to make sure that even while he has the advantage that the enemy has absolutely no chance of catching him off guard and getting it themselves.

Opposite actually, you see DIO started underestimating himself after being fooled by Jotaro twice, and couldn't help but think less of his abilities, for example DIO was anxious in the beginning of the fight to end it by time stoping and rushing Jotaro, after a few under estimates and tricks, he decided that was too dangerous, so throughout the rest of the fight it became common to see DIO second checking and being paranoid, he even goes as far as to distance himself with Jotaro in the last encounter, when he uses a rode roller instead of THE WORLD it self it becomes obvious his ego has been stuck, why with an ego like his he would had no problem walking up to Jotaro in the last time stop and killing him, heck he would've preferred it, but Jotaro proved to be cunning enough to even make powered up DIO want to distance himself. In short, DIO got scared.

Honestly no mention of how he got drunk on Joestar blood halfway through the fight? The knife throwing was toying a bit, but it served a purpose. Unlike old Dio, new Dio was extremely cautious and paranoid. He still taunted, but he made the optimal moves. He studied Jotaro. He attacked from a distance. He used a gun and listened for a heartbeat. Every move he made was pretty much on point. It was ironically after he drank Joseph's blood and became stronger that he good weaker. He was suppressing his nature early on. His tests were enjoyable, but all served a purpose. He wouldn't put himself at risk. After the Joestar blood was inside him, his true nature came out. He started acting extremely irrational. He gave into his urges and stopped fighting at range. He took chances. And because of that, Jotaro won. It spilled over into their last clash, as Dio struck out without focus, while Jotaro's form was perfect.
Not to mention the Tarot cards they are based on The Upright World symbolizes perfection, and The Reversed World symbolizes stagnation DIO seeks perfection, but failed to constantly improve The Upright Star is that of Faith and improvement, while The Reversed Star symbolizes lack of faith Jotaro always improved due to his faith in self, and is only damaged when he starts to doubt his abilities.
Jotaro, who got a degree in marine biology mind you, also used ocean-based wording to throw DIO off his game when he was stuck in Jotaro's timestop. Letting DIO slip even more then he was before and attack with his weaker, left side.
dio seems to lose control of himself when he feels or is in power, which leads to him losing fights when he got his vampiric abilities, he was always in a sadistic but joyful mood, but would realise what he’d done once it was too late in part 3 he was calm, controlled and was arguably smarter than jotaro (in terms of using his environment), but once he had Joseph’s blood, I wouldn’t say he got drunk, he just felt power or perfection again, which lead to his death. If he had taken Joseph’s blood and still been serious, jotaro would’ve lost almost right after

Another reason is because in the manga, Stands have more than one ability, and one of star platinum's was a time stopping ability, therefore, Jotaro could also stop and start time too.
This is why I think Diavolo is such a great villian. He doesn't mess around. He tries his best not to get into fights. And when he does, every action is with purpose. He only every "toy" with his enemies when it can create fear. Example Polanreff vs Diavolo scene. And that was only done because Diavolo couldn't get a kill. He literally only wastes time in time stop, which he can't do anything in anyway. Diavolo has a goal and will do anything to achieve it. Like Jonathan but evil.
Honestly, I love both (or rather all the main villains). Dio lost because he was an arrogant slacker (it took a hostage situation and him eating some humble pie to kill Jonathan...and even then he was lucky the coffin was eventually pulled from the bottom of the ocean !), Diavolo lost because he was overtly paranoid and too meticulous for his own good. You say that Jotaro was trying to end his fight as fast as possible, but the most interesting part of the fight was when he allowed DIO to heal before delivering the final blow. It didn't matter because DIO ended up trying to blind someone that could use his stand as binoculars, but Jotaro absolutely risked losing the fight and having his mother die so he could prove absolutely that he could kill his opponent.

I never really thought about it until you mentioned that DIO were gauging Jotaro to see if he were up against another Jonathan,
but I wonder if he underestimated Jotaro because he believed that Jonathan were such a worthy foe because of that signature drive and passion of his that burned brightly even in the face of impossible odds.

Technically got pissed off because dio hurt his friends
True
This is a very interesting take, loved it
This is actually the most sound theory I’d start thinking about
That also works well themathically with Jotaro, starting off shooting himself to prove a point and evolving to things like the bluffing against the two D'Arbys

One of the reasons why Dio lost is because in his last kick he went with the left leg and the left side of his body was weaker.

Why get blood on yourself?
@@mimszanadunstedt441 ?

And using stealth would make the world basically unstoppable.
He couldn’t, the manga even explicitly says so. His flaw was if any that he was being too cautious
This is true for more objects like the road roller itself (you can see how the dust eventually stops in mid air too)
My point is that you can just stop time, approach Jotaro at a range in which the knives will only stop *after* damaging Jotaro's body.

Emerald Splash? More like belongs in the trash
2 real reasons:
-dio wasted his time stops
- jotaro has plot armor
Long Story Short:
He died because he got cocky.
Because he was the antagonist.

@@fishman585 yah that's the entire premise of the video if it weren't him being cocky, he would have taken out the best fighter they had instead of toying with them
@@fishman585 yes he had a chance to throw a knife at me but no he said "he's a bit out of my range" like for 5 seconds it feels like 30 seconds
I was going to like this but it has 69 likes rn
That was a really well put together presentation
Not to mention the Tarot cards they are based on
The Upright World symbolizes perfection, and The Reversed World symbolizes stagnation
DIO seeks perfection, but failed to constantly improve
The Upright Star is that of Faith and improvement, while The Reversed Star symbolizes lack of faith
Jotaro always improved due to his faith in self, and is only damaged when he starts to doubt his abilities.
Jotaro, who got a degree in marine biology mind you, also used ocean-based wording to throw DIO off his game when he was stuck in Jotaro's timestop. Letting DIO slip even more then he was before and attack with his weaker, left side.
dio seems to lose control of himself when he feels or is in power, which leads to him losing fights
when he got his vampiric abilities, he was always in a sadistic but joyful mood, but would realise what he’d done once it was too late
in part 3 he was calm, controlled and was arguably smarter than jotaro (in terms of using his environment), but once he had Joseph’s blood, I wouldn’t say he got drunk, he just felt power or perfection again, which lead to his death. If he had taken Joseph’s blood and still been serious, jotaro would’ve lost almost right after
Everyone asking why DIO lost but nobody is asking about how's the construction worker that will get in trouble for the missing road roller the next day

The perfect end for him is having this much desired anonymity but none of the might and connections he had accumulated all these years. Just a husk wasting away...
DIO's death ? It was perfect because it was the exact opposite of Jonathan's.
Jonathan's death was unfair but he spent his last moment making sure of Erina's safety while barely being able to breathe... until he could not go on anymore. He was barely 21 but died fighting unwinnable stakes.
Dio on the other hand, dispatched caution right after drinking Joseph's blood , underestimated Jotaro's Star Platinum and died pathetically as a result. The fact that the vampiric cult-leader with a broken Stand power went out like a Hokuto No Ken villain and in a fight he had the upper hand in is pure catharsis !
