I like to think they we're just getting pulled up by they're stands, like during the fight with the weird yellow goop guy Jotaro jumps onto a water tower and when he doesn't make it he literally uses star platinum to grab onto it and then he's just pulled towards his stand so I just though "hey same principle"
*Stands can grab and move physical objects, including their users *Stands can fly *Polnareff did this with Chariot in his first fight *Stands can occupy the same space as physical objects *Stands can still interact and use their abilities while they are "Put away" inside their users *Stands can fly while attaching themselves to their users bodies *Ice more or less does this with Cream It would honestly be stanger if Stand Users with ethereal stands couldn't fly! Also, there are not many fights were movement of that type was all that important, the major exception (in Part 3) being Geb, which I accept as it being an advanced technique that Jotaro hadn't figured out yet.
People thinking that deflecting Emerald Splash is a contradiction because Kakyoin said no one can do it is like thinking that a villain cannot be defeated because he said "Impossible! I can't be defeated!"

I do think there are some legitimate uses for this, especially for stands with a long range, or who’s ability might not be affected by size: koichis echoes act 2 for example, since its range is so far he could pull off some assasination type stuff, and fugos virus’s won’t lose effectiveness with size. Granted, you’d have to shrink your stand while hiding out of sight, then have it fly ever so slowly to your opponent, and idk if there were exact scenarios for koichi like that but I still think it’s useful

4 Moves..? Mf the most Star Platinum has done is extend his fingers and suck in air really hard. Any Stand can suck in air, Jotaro was just the first guy to have a reason to do it.
I personally think Kakyoin was surprised that Jotaro deflected the Emerald Splash, because he's never fought another Stand user before that. Therefore, he's never fought anyone who could see the attack coming.
@@triangulum8869 That may have to wait. They haven't really been fully explained in-universe so giving a rundown wouldn't be too effective at the moment.
For me it seemed more like a flex if nothing else. H.Green is a super stealthy and assassination-type stand, and Kakyoin is incredibly smart. Being incredibly smart comes with wanting to flex that brain (even if it is partially impaled). If I had his stand I'd probably do that stupid painting and puppet stuff too just to throw them off my case.

I think Star Platinum's range issue is more a "Araki changed his mind" rather than "Araki forgot" issue. Besides, it was just a comical way to hint that SP wasn't really a evil spirit.
TheSunTitan well at first he was going for stands have unlimited range but lessen in power the farther they are thus stands with 5 meters as their range would be most powerful behind that distance but could go as far as the user made them. Then Araki decided that they would stop at that mark instead since it would literally be star platinum and other close range stands would have that far distance but less power trade off and that would be a little bit dull to technically have all stands being long distance stands so that’s most likely why he changed it
Araki does hv a lot instances of bad writing though. A lot of the debunking done in this video is basically giving araki and the show the benefit of a doubt instead of concrete evidence
I like the theory that the stuff Star Platinum brings to Jotaro is from the Police's confiscated merchandise room, that could be near the cells area. Makes sense to me.
Generally speaking I always thought that "Araki forgot" meme was mostly a joke, because even if indeed forget something, I still love the work and it adds to the weirdness and bizzarre of the work.
honestly I think a writer can forget smal details or make light retcons to theire work without them becoming a bad writer for it. Yes, a writer should generaly stay consistent with their rules and having retcons that are to contradictory or big are annoying, but a lot of the "forgot" things are minor nitpics. Personally I am fine with pretending Dio had a chance to get into the coffing and that it then just sank into the ocean after Erina got rescued if it means I get Stardus Crusaders out of it (although it would have been better for the anime to have Erina go into a life boat instead of goig into the coffin, would have completly solved this little plothole). It is sloppy on a writing prospective, but it isn't all that important and it creates a good set up for a well written story, so I think it is completly forgiveable.
It is indeed a joke. It's just that a minority take it seriously, and Hamon Beat waste is time with obvious and/or bad faith argument to justify everything Araki really did or did not forgot for an extreme minor number of people who will probably never listen to him anyway. I will say HB made more harm than good by spreading a false sentiment of toxicity beetween members of the JJBA community.

Yeah, this. Idk, I kinda feel like one of the main charms of JoJo is just the sheer amount of bullshit that happens. It's kinda just fun. You actually made me understand Stands more, thank you. I still miss Hamon a bit though. When I saw Stardust Crusaders, the change from Hamon to Stands seemed a bit sudden to me, and I was like "where did this brand new ability come from". That not everyone needs Dio and the arrow to awaken a Stand was the key element I was missing. You explaining Tonio and Aya helped to clear up the confusion a bit. As in there could exist Stands for example in Jonathan's time as well, Jonathan just didn't encounter Stand users, so we didn't see them.
I don't really like the idea of people awakening Stands, at least not at a young age. Imagine Kakyoin as a kid, we see a little of his backstory near the end but imagine being a child, seeing this thing that nobody else can, knowing you're not crazy but being unable to tell anyone because they thought you would be. You'd go insane. But you are correct, in canon, we don't see Stand users in Parts 1 and 2 because there is no reason to, however, the truth is, they just hadn't been thought of yet.
I think its just the lack of clarity and detail in certain moments. A lot of these Araki Forgot explanations are like okay yeah i guess that makes sense... But the fact that someone other than the author has to explain (more like defend) it and that theres these moments that the majority of people are confused by in the first place speaks to something outside of everyone individually just happening to be stupid. If you go back and read past parts can you come up with an explanation in your head for why x thing happened? Sure, but it would be a lot better if the author had in the moment of x happening acknowledged it at all, instead of needing to make a fan theory for things every time.
@@Bunnibunnibunni If the author had to explain each and every minute detail the story would suffer. None of the explanations are exactly a stretch. If people are confused about something all they have to do is think about it for a little bit instead of having to be spoon fed everything

It's always interesting when someone has been a stand user for years and has never met another one. Jotaro gets in contact with Joseph and Avdol quickly after discovering it and finally gets educated about the nature if his "evil spirit". Kira only finds out that other stand users exist after 15 years of exploding people, I believe. If we take stand possession as a metaphor for homosexuality, then Jotaro is one who is disgusted by his desires which seem unnatural to him. Then he end up finding a community of similar people and is no longer an outcast. The same is true for Kakyoin. He finally finds a group of people who underSTAND him, and thus his last 50 days are the happiest of his life.
The painting with Kakyoin to me was probably to show Heirophant where to attack, or to show us the audience where Heirophant was going to attack. The puppet was probably a scare tactic, or just Kakyoin being showboaty.
It makes sense as a showboating bait move tbh. To someone who'd never fought another stand user and had no prior knowledge of kakyoin's abilities (jotaro) then he could use the puppet and stuff to make it seem like an important part of his stand powers to try and force sloppy moves from his enemy
I thought that Dio didn't come out of the coffin until a century later because: 1) He was stuck in the middle of the ocean. There aren't many places where he could have hid away from sunlight during the day. Better to wait until something happens. 2) Taking control of Jonathan's body took a REALLY long time. Dio simply was in no condition of escaping.
@@trhytuhtfyjutrfh The coffin's made of iron or reinforced with it, so less "he had no way of telling time" and more "he couldn't even get out if he WANTED to. Hermit purple is a good stand for someone using Hamon as they do not need to wear tactical outfit made out of thousand beetles or something Also it is like a GPS but in 1980s
The strangulation thing is actually easier to explain and makes perfect sense. When you're stand is affected by something, so are you. If your stand gets choked, your neck gets squeezed too. So even if the stand doesn't need air, strangling them still suffocated the user.
I hate people who say that "No Stand can bring life back" is a plot hole when Star Platinum basically just did what a defibrillator does. It wasn't an actual Stand power.

Killer queen part 8 can just do that, no evidence shows that part 4 kira could shrink SHA, just how part 8 killer queen can have more than one SHA. Regardless, stand shrinking is pretty much useless except in very specific situations, like the soft machine fight

I don't think we ever see the text box appear that declares death/retirement for DIO But it did appear for Johnathan Tho that's the anime, don't know what happens in the manga, haven't checked
Only thing I'd argue that you're flat out wrong on is Star Platinum getting things for Jotaro. In part 4, it's made VERY clear that stand ranges are absolute. During the fight with Hazamada, Crazy Diamond's fist stops at its range limit, with Surface just out of range. It wasn't a severely weakened punch for going out of range, Crazy Diamond could not physically go past its range. The same is mentioned in Koichi's fight with Yukako, when he sends Echoes to the pay phone. He remarks about how lucky he is that it's just inside Echoes' range. And that was before he needed to use his ability to put the dial tones on Yukako's arm, so it wasn't about it being within range for his ability to work, but within his range for Echoes to even reach it. That said, the moment isn't an "Araki forgot" moment, necessarily, but rather an "Araki changed the rules later on" moment.
Savos Mok there’s a theory that I like to stick to, where Star Platinum’s actual ability is to be what Jotaro needs it to be. It doesn’t get a full form until after he sees Magician’s Red, thinking “Oh it’s supposed to be humanoid and buff”. Before that, we see a hand stop the bullet, but that’s because Jotaro needed the bullet to be stopped. Star Platinum needed Jotaro to know he was friendly, so he got him gifts and didn’t truly become a fully realized stand until Jotaro knew what a stand was
@@thefunniestvalentine4789 I think that's it's more the stand is still developing so that's why it can go the distance and such and perhaps maybe that's why he isn't able to stop time until the fight with Dio cause he realises dios ability and because his stand is still developing he just makes it stop time
@@danielshore1457 It would also explain why Jotaro (and the audience) doesn't see Kakyoin attack him with Heirophant Green that first time. He's still developing as a stand user, so it's possible for him to just not see stands right away if they aren't fully manifested.
"That said, the moment isn't an "Araki forgot" moment, necessarily, but rather an "Araki changed the rules later on" moment." That IS an "Araki forgot". What you just described is an "Araki forgot"
When fans say "Araki forgot", they don't literally mean that Araki forgot something, we're just using it as a catch-all term fro various inconsistencies.
I realize this is a really old video and it’s silly to comment this now, but there’s something really chilling about Jonathan’s defiled undead body obtaining a stand because of Dio. It’s genuinely a zombie stand.
I love this video, it's a useful resource to help to fill in logic gaps in the series and explain common issues that people have with plot holes. That being said, Araki has said in multiple interviews before that he has difficulty remembering all the details and information from his works, especially from part to part. So while a lot of holes can be filled with some stretch of the imagination, we have to be fair and admit that it's possible he just forgot about some things.
Araki does hv a lot instances of bad writing though. A lot of the debunking done in this video is basically giving araki and the show the benefit of a doubt instead of concrete evidence
I like the idea (thematically) that the reason DIO has The World and a variation of Hermit Purple is that everything he’s had in some way is stolen from the Joestars. I know it’s never stated as such but it makes Jotaro beating him with the same ability so much more satisfying
Good lord half of these claims can be summed up as: "Remember when this character used this move to get out of a specific scenario and that scenario never came up again?" Silly. Great series so far!
Something interesting about the "Dio having all stands" theory I realized: Dio does not have every stand, of course, but he DOES have every stand of the joestar bloodline (at the time, because remember that Josuke and Giorno were not stand users during when Dio was alive). He had Star Platinum in the form of The World, since they have been shown to be the exact same stand. He has Hermit Purple, as seen through him using it multiple times. He also even has Holly's stand. During the D'arby the Player fight, when Kakyoin has the flashback with him first confronting Dio, we can see the thorny plant Stand around Dio and Kakyoin both in the anime and manga. People say that Araki has terrible memory, but in reality he's a genius with his story.
I absolutely love this series, it feels good to be pleasantly corrected like this and receive explanation on things that may or may not have been poorly communicated Can’t wait for Part 4!
A lot of people seem to forget the entire idea of the Kakyoin fight is that this is the fourth stand we're seeing and it's also the first hostile one, so Araki had the stands design stay a mystery and build it up through Kakyoins scare tactics. Many people do not realize that not every single thing is pure logic, some is to just set the mood and for storytelling reasons. This is one of those instances as the reveal of Hierophant is one of the biggest aspects of the fight as it shows how slippery and undetectable the stand is, which comes back in all of Kakyoins fights.
Yeah, I hate that people just say “Kakyoin had paint powers” or “NoOn e caN deFl eCt tEh EmruLD spWaSh” Kakyoin has proven time and time again that he is a calm and levelheaded person in conflict, but he still has a sense of humor and flashyness. Kakyoin rarely just uses the Emerald Splash in an attempt to kill, infact he uses it to try and attack something that he cant safely approach with Heirophant Green. He used it to save Polnareff from Hanged Man, used it to attack DIO without getting within his Stand’s effective range, and even did it against The Sun to try and deflect its incoming attack.
while it does make sense to use ambiguity to raise tension in a scene like that, i think the reason this misunderstanding permeates is because the concept of stands pretty much instantly conditions you to associate mysterious occurrences with stand abilities. i think in any series with an open-ended power system like this, especially one where new and unique powers are being introduced all the time, you have to be careful with how you convey information about the supernatural elements so as not to accidentally imply that a new power has just been introduced.

I like to think they we're just getting pulled up by they're stands, like during the fight with the weird yellow goop guy Jotaro jumps onto a water tower and when he doesn't make it he literally uses star platinum to grab onto it and then he's just pulled towards his stand so I just though "hey same principle"
*Stands can grab and move physical objects, including their users
*Stands can fly
*Polnareff did this with Chariot in his first fight
*Stands can occupy the same space as physical objects
*Stands can still interact and use their abilities while they are "Put away" inside their users
*Stands can fly while attaching themselves to their users bodies
*Ice more or less does this with Cream
It would honestly be stanger if Stand Users with ethereal stands couldn't fly!
Also, there are not many fights were movement of that type was all that important, the major exception (in Part 3) being Geb, which I accept as it being an advanced technique that Jotaro hadn't figured out yet.

@@droidpenguin3648 and the fact that most joestar's stands has some kind of connection to each other Joseph and Holly have vine like stand and so does DIO or Jonathan's Passion stand. The World upright represents the culmination of a stage or aspect of one's life. Reversed it represents frustrating setbacks in achieving one's goals.

A lot of the debunking done in this video is basically giving araki and the show the benefit of a doubt instead of concrete evidence

honestly I think a writer can forget smal details or make light retcons to theire work without them becoming a bad writer for it.

Jonathan also wouldnt even know if he met a stand user because he wouldntve been able to see them
I don't really like the idea of people awakening Stands, at least not at a young age.

Fun fact: when Kakyoin has never fought a stand user, so the only people that couldn’t deflect it were his bullies.

I thought that Dio didn't come out of the coffin until a century later because:
1) He was stuck in the middle of the ocean. There aren't many places where he could have hid away from sunlight during the day. Better to wait until something happens.
2) Taking control of Jonathan's body took a REALLY long time. Dio simply was in no condition of escaping.

Hermit purple is a good stand for someone using Hamon as they do not need to wear tactical outfit made out of thousand beetles or something

The strangulation thing is actually easier to explain and makes perfect sense. When you're stand is affected by something, so are you. If your stand gets choked, your neck gets squeezed too. So even if the stand doesn't need air, strangling them still suffocated the user.

"That said, the moment isn't an "Araki forgot" moment, necessarily, but rather an "Araki changed the rules later on" moment."
That IS an "Araki forgot".

People really be like "Damn, something I don't like happened? Araki forgot!"
Yeah, I hate that people just say “Kakyoin had paint powers” or “NoOn e caN deFl eCt tEh EmruLD spWaSh”
Kakyoin has proven time and time again that he is a calm and levelheaded person in conflict, but he still has a sense of humor and flashyness.
