as others have noticed MBT un-intensionily cheated during game 2? from 22:03 to 22:15 if you look at his deck you will see that when he used back jack he only sent 2 cards and put back 3 cards! because of that he put one of the cards he sent off of Pot of Desires back and no one noticed. lol
This Format was absolutely hilarious to play. It was either massive wombo combos if you open Grass vs a 40 card deck, or You have incredibly slow 60 card piles bricking against each other.
Best part was both players playing 60 cards for Grass but only leading to Grass not being able to mill much. Then the deck building of ~50 cards for best of consistency + best of getting Grass for milling. Kind of like people playing with 13 card extra to get around D.D Dynamite FTKs, in Master Duel.
Yea I honestly don't understand why they choose some of these decks to go against each other. They'll talk about how rogue decks will use tech cards to fight the meta and then have two rogue decks fighting each other where the tech cards are dead. So annoying.
And in doing so they display how one card has flexibility outside of the tech and the other... doesn't. Also "dead" is a bit of a stretch when that game 3 had a Grass for four that put 2 Paleos in grave.
It really showcase the weakness of cimoo's deck. It is a jack of all trades where it deceptively has a lot of gas while in reality you can only play the combo once and cant recover.
Don't be afraid to showcase a 60 card vs 40 card Grass matchup. Think I saw a mill 20 once in Prog, but when you're literally agreeing upon the matchups to showcase powerful/janky decks with 0 stakes on the outcome you could actually let them be powerful/janky
Yea I think the lightsworn deck is extremely mid if you can’t grass but if you resolve grass for 10+ cards it pops off so hard. Really would’ve liked to see it against a non-60 card deck to see how it’s supposed to play
i think the series as a whole is missing that. they always say "well the previous decks could not keep up/were outclassed" but never show the new vs the old to exemplify why.
@@thezestylime0989 I feel like another channel could fill that niche. It'd be brutal to basically designate someone as the foregone loser every episode, but it'd also be a neat showcase.
I feel like it's very weird to highlight That Grass Looks Greener in an episode where both decks are 60 cards, it means you don't really get to see the card itself in action.
I feel like that's what makes it a good idea- the major downside of Grass is that you often don't get to see it in action, since it's good enough that lots of people play it. People have this weird idea that they're the only person smart enough to think of 60 cards, so for a competitive history video, it's good to set expectations accurately.
This was kind off the standard. Most people at the time were running 60 card grass decks or even just 60 card regular piles just so they don't get hit with grass. Pure Zoo was the only deck not running 60 and even it would frequently break 40 to go to like 50~. It would still be cool to see grass vs Pure Zoo though.
In game 2, Cimo had a lot of options he never went for. He could send back the Omega to the extra deck alongside another card after it took Strike. If he cared even for 10 seconds about Uni-Zombie's level effect, he could have used one of them on a monster that wasn't Uni (on the Omega itself, in fact) to keep the Uni level 4, and the Mezuki in GY to bring back Solitaire so that he could summon Omega AGAIN and steal that Pot of Desires. He also had Snow online for a long time but went for it only at the very end.
At 22:10, did MBT just banish 2 for Backjack and put back a desire’s banish? I really don’t think that it changed anything, just funny. (Haven’t watched all the way through, if they did address it)
"I could have sided the 2nd omega" yeaaah or just use the gy effect of the first one to put it back in the extra while shuffling another card from the gy into the deck
I think the funniest cheat so far this series is MBT not banishing enough cards off of Jack and accidentally using one of the desires cards as a Jack card
A shoutout I'd like to give to the grass era is how... comfortable?... it got us with going over 40. For quite a bit it really felt like "40, sharp" was the end all be all gospel where even going one over immediatly branded you as a scrub. When you're playing 60 even without grass people started seeing that modern yugioh was extremely consistent anyways, and the extra space and dillution of garnets could sometimes be a useful thing if your engine was consistent enough. Even after the grass ban people routinely started going over when maindecks were "consistent enough" to allow the usage of extra space to either jam in more tech or dillute garnets.
even nowadays you see people Play 45 or 50 cards to reduce the amount you see engine requirements or garnets while keeping the ratio of starters the same.
I love That Grass Looks Greener! The way it promotes a deck building philosophy that isn't the normal 40 card orthodoxy is so much fun. I really hope that you guys actually play a few of the decks with it against some 40 card decks to really show it go off before the timeline gets to Grass getting banned.
At 19:44 cimoo forgot minerva’s other effect, but at 20:08 we can see that had cimoo used minerva’s mill he would have drawn into garnet lmao cimoo is simply too good at yugioh!
Why isn’t the lightsworn pile deck still playing diamond dire in 2017v Dweller is bonkers in the grass mirror. I can’t believe it’s not even siding it and instead there’s a second Omega?
3:35 Agreed. Lost wind may not be the most game warping card, but man has it saved me on so many occasions. It can be used in the damage step, it’s permanent, it halves attack/negates effects, it resets itself (not once per turn btw) and it’s a rare in master duel.
This was when I first got really deep into competitive Yugioh, like attending regionals and stuff. 60-card Zombiesworn was my favorite deck. This meta taught me so much about card advantage and honestly was one of the highest skill formats to this day.
I hope we get to see the 60 card dino pile that was around once we got overtex and the predplant support its one of my favorite decks of all time For those unaware the full mish mash was lightsworn, zombie, dino, predplant (to get brilliant fusion), shadoll, and snow
I had a dream where there was no limit to the extra deck and a link player opened with this and a 60 card deck it turned into a fever dream then a nightmare as by the the time the turn was over there was a full board with Omni negates and invulnerable monsters with a full hand and it was only turn one😱
During the DM and GX eras there was no extra deck or maindeck limit. People used to play 3 of every single fusion in the game because there was no reason not too and between Metamorphosis and Scientist you never know, they might come up.
I understand that the extra deck was tight but man, that zoo build made some questionable choices in what they dedicated space to. Not only are they only on the one Drident, but they don't even have the Emeral in the side to recycle it if necessary, making a huge chunk of the deck just dead as soon as Drident is dealt with. I feel like they could have dedicated a bit more of the extra deck to Zoo while still keeping other viable options. The kagatsuchi feels kinda irrelevant with triple grass, brilliant fusion, the shaddoll fusions, Minerva, etc, and could've been an Emeral or an extra Drident. Also, I realize this is Zoo format, but Construct still just feels like a better choice than Shekhinaga.
Grass was such a powerful card. It enabled Infernoid, Exodia in some cases (due to some Backup Soldier shenanigans), and of course, one of the most powerful level 4 monsters ever printed, Fairy Tail - Snow. Side note: Paleozoic Picaiea is such on overlooked Paleozoic card. It's an in-archetype +1 (or a +2 if you have a paleo in grave by then), can be searched with good old Trap Trick, and is a good way to have some draw power in such a linear deck that can brick pretty bad.
this match up is interesting. I feel like cimo's deck is just great against 40 card decks as it's all gas. But against 60 card decks it has less gas. Meanwhile MBT's deck if it doesn't open grass is prolly just setting 5 and passing. So 40 card decks could in theory grind out the backrow. Yet 60 card decks like cimo struggled to get going due to the backrow and the lack of a live grass. So as the format as a whole goes it's unclear which is the better 60 card deck.
Ah yes, That Grass plus Lightsworn, Fairy Tail - Snow, Gren Maju, and Gandora. I remember one copy of That Grass triggering like, 6 or 7 GY effects in the same Chain. It was SO gross and yet SO fun. 😎
Finally, I am officially caught up with the History of Yu-Gi-Oh! lol It took me well over a month and a half 😂 I gotta say you guys are incredibly entertaining to watch. I even got my best friend into watching you guys. I am incredibly excited for the next episode to drop. When I first came across That Grass Looks Greener, I thought to myself "That effect is super dumb!"........until I discovered what its true potential is...... Such a scary card lol I think it should never come off the banlist, like, ever
You really should have structured it so it was two 60 vs. 40 matchups, as you said 60 vs. 60 Grass is really neutered so the episode title card isn't even featured... that's kinda a bummer.
paleo frogs really is the only control deck that also can combo off and isn't just feeling like: if you wold off played a full on combo deck instead your deck would have been better

I loved playing 60 card Paleo before Toad was banned in MD for the sins of Spright (and grass semi limited, for reasons). Obviously it was a bit powercrept, and there was only one Toad, but it was enough.

This is legit why even half way threw last year I was jamming Paleozoic with needle bug just to dump 5 cards hitting backjack plus a few traps was crazy Using rise to full hight plus dupe frog ment you just never died to battle and Paleozoic having moster protection ment you could build a board fairly easily Sadly with ronin banned I think its pretty much over for this deck go ever be able to put up a good board past the setting of trap

absolutely murdered
I love grass, makes more than 40 cards playable and if your opponent is ripping through their deck they get punished
Nooooo how am I supposed to remember the code for getting ?% off singles and sealed products??
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This is legit why even half way threw last year I was jamming Paleozoic with needle bug just to dump 5 cards hitting backjack plus a few traps was crazy
Using rise to full hight plus dupe frog ment you just never died to battle and Paleozoic having moster protection ment you could build a board fairly easily
Sadly with ronin banned I think its pretty much over for this deck go ever be able to put up a good board past the setting of trap
