Imagine getting out of this format into gouki and spyral
its like the spongebob water meme, but without the water to save them.
hey, don't forget the one month of Pend Magicians
The thought of gumblar makes me sick
Don’t need to when I lived through this lol
What do you mean out? In 2023 we are still in Hand Trap format.
Last week, on History of Yugioh: we witnessed our heroes face off showcasing the power of That Grass Looks Greener with a 60-card mirror match. Now they must show off the power of Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King in a Zoodiac mirror match. Don’t forget to tune in next week to see how our heroes will surprise us again!
Really great match, though
That's an easy question to answer, though: with the Very Fun Dragon.
Joseph forgetting to shuffle into drawing the black sheep he left on top into having *boarded out of fusion sub* is excellent
I do find it very funny when Konami bans a generic floodgate, only to replace it with a slightly weaker one. Ban Vanities, have an Imperial Order. Ban IO, here's 2 more copies of Skill Drain. It's like they feel obligated to have a certain number of toxic cards in the format at all time
well, there are now 7 Macro Cosmos this format. down from 9 last banlist.
D Fissure, Macro, Arise Heart
And with the release of Ash Blossom, the decks on History are now going to start to resemble modern Yu-Gi-Oh more and more...
It's wild to think that in 1-2 years we're going to be watching Alex and Joseph play Tear mirrors as they approach modern day
Cant wait to see the worse tear mirror of all times kekw
MBT putting black sheep on top and not shuffling. Chef's kiss, truly
Like how did they not realize. MBT CHET confirmed
Anybody else remember the "Maximum Crisis Crisis"? The initial printing of the set super short printed Ash Blossom and I think other competitively relevant secret rares? Cimo covered the issue himself at the time, it was a big controversy among the playerbase
This set is when I joined the game as a brand new player. I'm getting emotional having lots of fond memories of high school come to mind. Thank you for doing this series
Jesus, you joined the game in this format and didn't immediately quit? You're brave for sure.
Joseph forgot to shuffle after putting blacksheep back on the top of the deck so he drew it. What a silly little man.
i did actually shuffle during a cut - had to check the logs LOL
@MBTYuGiOh ohhh lmao I thought it was just a DB moment where you forgot to shuffle, turns out you just speak things into existence as always
I love that this match actually perfectly exemplifies why Maxx C at 1 is arguably the worst. You see what it's like for the player opening it and you see what it's like when you draw it completely dead. It's either the sacky 1 of you can't do anything about or it's the annoying dead card ruining your day. Believe it or not Konami OCG this cards limitation status does not actually damper its strength it just changes the annoyance degrees.
Finally maximum crisis is here! This set was so influential even to this day, and i'll never forget the sheer power of true draco zoo with master peace, it truly felt like an unbeatable deck.
I don’t know that draco and zoo was unbeatable, I had an Extra deck monarch list, I refined with every new card from the past sets.
If I remember correctly I had a very positive winrate on the simulators against draco and zoo.
It was around tier 1-2 till 2019.
-Horrible against spyral negate boards and firewall FTKs, but Zoodiac and draco were piece of cake matchups.
About the list, it had time maiden and time lords and foolish burial of goods, instant fusion, grass, soul charge, rank8 and 5 xyz.
Solemn strike, torrential, raigeki, legacy of a duelist, mathematician to summon metaion the timelord 3x turns in a row.
3x terraforming and diagram/domain for consistency with trade-in (Master piece as Lv 8) or tenacity of the monarch(Ignis monarch stats) and pantheism.
Forget Wind Up Loops, i will never understand how everyone didn't quit the game this format.
This didn't feel like a match, it just felt like one neverending game
Honestly this era with the knowledge of links coming to the game in a few months legitimately got people to quit the game
to be fair i was one of those that quit to live to regret it after as i fell in love with the true draco deck when i eventually got back, after masterpiece was banned a long time already as well as grass which was my second big regret as i absolutely love to play 60 card decks :D
Because these decks fuck hard. They don't make big fuck-off 5 negate boards. You opponent can still play the game.
If master peace needed 3 tributes it would be even stronger.
Metaltron XII does, but it lacks the Quick Effect pop, instead having a float.
I love looking at a decklist and seeing a bunch of 1's and Bans
It tells a whole story, like "it was that bad huh"
@@ItsReallyColdOutside Yeah, I legitimatally think the only deck that has ever been hit this hard is Tearlement
Y’all, these decks are wild. As someone who only knew Zoo from its second life, it’s unreal what these decks were able to do. These combos are so complex, there are a lot of powerful forms of interaction, and there are so many wild ways to use your resources. I never knew Zoo could be this brazy, and I feel this deck would compete in recent-year formats as a powerhouse even before you factor Zeus and UFD. Great episode!
In lithium’s cross banlist cup, one match I remember in particular is full power zoo vs full power sky striker with 3 engage, 3 multi roll, 3 kagari, etc. This deck absolutely steamrolled through striker like it was child’s play. This zoo is crazy because cards like effect veiler that can be turn ending for certain decks are simply a -1 vs zoo and they can just upgrade to the next broken xyz monster and keep comboing off. And the worst part is that you still have to use them because letting zoo go off uninterrupted leads to them drawing their entire deck, allowing them to draw into their sideboard hate and turn enders like dimensional barrier. Plus since it’s the original “one card starter”, you can play every hand trap under the sun without interfering. A “bad” zoo hand still ends up going like +3 with a free pop just from summoning any one zoo monster. Back in the day it was something like 80% of decks were at least playing 3 rat, 3 barrage, and a whiptail minimum in completely unrelated decks with 0 synergy like infernoid and pendulum because it was too good not to.
To me, the rat formats were some of the most creative when it came to unintended combos. With most archetypes, you can sort of tell that certain cards were built with other cards in mind. It’s very clear for example that dinosaurs were all designed to take advantage of the babies’ pop effects. However, this format had people abusing a random lunalight monster in order to search a version of poly that had never even considered being played before. To top it all off, they were using that to hard summon *norden*, a monster that was basically just considered to be tied to instant fusion. Later iterations of zoo abused random pack filler commons like Shuffle Reborn. That to me is what makes deckbuilding so cool. When rat was at 3, many people just said that all that was needed to keep the deck balanced and effectively neuter it was putting it to 2. Nobody could imagine the combos that came next, and whoever originally thought of it is a genius.
I started playing way after full power Zoo and always thought it wasn't THAT explosive of a deck and that it was Tier 0 because of all of the consistency and flexibility tools, like the more modern builds (ones like in early MD without the Tri-Brigade stuff, for example)
This episode has taught me A LOT
Yeah this deck can kinda keep up with 2023 decks if let loose from the banlist
The zoos themselves are the consistency aspect, but the extra deck available made it so that their advantage can immediately be turned into more advantage and then + master peace...fun times
Yeah, if I ever have to live through full power Zoo again I might just end it all, it ain’t worth it 😂
I started the series about month and a half ago and caught up just in the first Zoodiac video, and it's really amazing to see how they are just focused on the games and not really caring at all about the shirt of shame. As Cimooo hasn't won a match in Zoodiac era but MBT didn't in HAT era and he couldn't live with it for some episodes lol. Currently catching up on History of Jank, to see if they have the same development with those wacky decks.
Looking forward how are they going to take SPYRAL and Gouki Gumblar formats
SPYRALS will only be like one episode and gouki like 2-3 because of how dieroll depended it is.
27:02 “That’s a thick Drident”
Damn straight she is
Man seeing Chakanine gives me nostalgia for after Drident gets unbanned where it was part of a line to make Infinitrack Fortress Megaclops off a zoo on field and Ramram in GY
1:23 MBT's Deck: Zoodiac & True Draco / King (ft. Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King and Ash Blossom's debut)
5:36 Cimooo's Deck: A more traditional Zoodiac 7:37 Why Droll & Lock Bird is a bad omen for the format
10:10 Game 1
16:20 Game 2
27:26 Game 3
I'm sure Imperial Order won't become a problem in future episodes lol.
Not as big as Ash Blossom.
@@dadocta5168Are you serious? That's all I needed to read to know you didnt play competitive yugioh
@Da Docta what's wrong with ash? Imperial order shuts down decks and it's own common outs.
@@ricecHrispies007 Does that mean Mystic Mine, Diablosis, NeedleFibre, and pre-errata FIrewall Dragon were balanced?
@@dadocta5168 Ash is not comparable at all to those cards what're you talking about 💀
Ash is a one for one that can be either countered easily baited, played around, chainblocked and everything it's a handtrap that doesn't even require you to draw the out if you're complaining about ash you're just trash at the game no other way to put it.
Mystic mine is a floodgate that shuts down a third of the cards in the entire game and requires you to draw the out and Mine alone is a wincon and people built decks completely around it.
Needlefiber is an insanely busted and generic link 2 that wasn't used as intended which was as generic synchro support but instead it became an entire combo engine with auroradon and because of that multiple tuners either got limited or banned.
Pre errata firewall is card that lead to FTK's and some of the most degenerate combo strats in the entire game by abusing non OPT's which btw Ash blossom is OPT.
Nice job you've told me you're trash at the game without actually telling me it straight up.
Quite surprised Ash wasn't mentioned in the intro.
Btw I think these videos could have a premiere event, It'd be cool to watch it with other people as if it were a Livestream
Probably waiting for it to become better, Ash wasn't really good when it came out.
Ash won't be really good until the following format
issue with Premieres is that people watching the Premiere don't count as people who viewed the video, so he'd be tanking his view count by doing that.
Fusion Sub actually came out in NECH but people didn't figure it out til later.
Who else was surprised they didn't talk a lot about Ash Blossom in either the intro or the deck profiles?
There was a guy at my locals who was actually mad Vanity's and Kirin got banned because they hurt his Pendulum deck, he considered those fair and balanced cards, and wondered why backrow removal was everywhere against him.
This is the last set before link monsters. This is crazy
Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King sleeves.
... ... ...To this day... Exactly what I feared of. This is what Konami has done. 2/3 of him unaffected by cards and a built in spot removal on anyone's turn is absurd.
History of Yu-Gi-Oh! episode wins
Cimoooooooo: 69(nice)
MBT: 69(double nice)
Why didn’t Konami hit any of these cards? Vanity’s Emptiness was a HUGE hit but not enough.
26:29 Hang on, if Joesph had summoned the 2nd Master Peace, surely that would've been lethal as the 2nd one would've gained the 300 ATK from Diagram making it 8k on board. (2950 + 1800 + 3250)
Worth noting that this is the first 'modern format' where handtraps have finally and definitively eclipsed trap cards as your interaction with your opponent on their turn and everyone starts running around 12. I can remember boomers back around this time complaining about having to run more than 6 handtraps, which is somehow even funnier in retrospect
This is the first time i found out the sangan errata was in 2017! What the heck, i thought it happened like 10 years before. I was playing when that happened holy.
22:00 thats why MBT always frees master peace in his banlist videos
I remember getting my nats invite this format with true king dino. Calamities is such a d*** card.
That was the deck that won worlds. (Though cimo had a video showing he only won because he opponent in the semifinals misplayed)
I do remember watching your Zoo / Fusion substitute combo video when it first came out!
It's been such a long time hehe
After seeing both decks, I think I'm gonna have a Maximum Crisis.
Konami really just named the set after what everyone’s mental state was during Zoo format
We keep questioning the end of YGO, to me this was it. From Maximum crisis until the end of 2018 this was a real low point.
As an anime fan first, ditto, tho it started earlier with the doldrums of Arc-V's Synchro arc.
These last few episodes have been so dang nostalgic for me. I stopped playing shortly after this set but man do i have so many fond memories of the release of this set. Im also super excited to see the formats after i took my hiatus to see what i missed out on before coming back around the time of Phantom Rage.
Zoodiac Ratpier to 2 is the funniest thing I've ever heard. What could they possibly have expected that to accomplish???
This was the format I started to get back into the game
How the hell did I stick with this?
I started playing right after this in Spyral format.
@lucaslennan3356 true draco and then Spyral, how did either of us stick to this game LMAO
At the casual level the Game was great ArcV era have a lot of legacy support plus the movie was around this time to
33:58 of course you drew it, Joseph. You haven't shuffled.
I thought I was the only one who noticed
I started playing right before MACR came out, I remember having so much fun playing when this set release. True Draco Zoo is probably my 2nd favorite deck of all time
i remember the sangan errata like it was yesterday. i feel so old. ffs.
2017 & 18 were pretty bad for Yugioh, all things considered. 2017 had Zoo dominate the first half then Spyral dominated the second half. 2018 was the year of the FTK and everything else was Gumblur hand loopinig, Trickstar Burn, Extra Link lockdowns and unbreakable boards.
trickstars were the only truly based deck
Does anyone have the score for History series (normal and Jank)
History is tied at 69 (no this is not joke)
I dont think anyone actually follows the jank win record
@@mattr791 i thought joseph was way ahead, he had some good win streaks
Ah my introduction to the game, and it only gets worse and worse before it gets any better.
Rule nr1 of side decking, never side out your engine pieces
I remember Maximum crisis mostly for when the the premier packs were being sold at our locals my friend actually pulled a True King of All Calamities from it and 10 people there over the course of the day came up to them asking to buy it off them and I remember someone actually offering them $300 for it
finally Master Peace I love this card also Fusion Sub zoo my fav deck of all time
Been waiting for true draco almost as long as I've been waiting for master peace to be unbanned.
DANG, it's not every day you see Dark Hole resolve against a board of 5 that are all your opponent's
6:25 this is when i got back into yugioh. just before links and a 3 year gap.
And now Ash is out. I am in immense pain at this news.
It’s kinda wild that Zoo and Tear, though tier zero…… we’re actually really fun to play. Neither was a herp-derp all-in combo deck with no follow up. The fact that they’re flexible, interactive, and encourage longer games where both players are in it make them really enjoyable.
Looking forward to seeing the Dino structure after this
People look at this format like it was so skill intensive and this demonstrates how 90% of the outcome is decided by who went first
Or the most game-breaking card ever made.
Tbf joseph misplayed turn one of game one. You hold the maxx c for the fusion substitute because that forces them to either give you 2 draws to end on drident and use an addtional monster for it or 3 draws.
Wait till you learn that a lot of games are determined by the cards you draw
"And yeah. You just did this for 9 rounds."
Announcer: "WILL THE ZOODIAC PLAYER PLEASE BE SO KIND AS TO FINISH THEIR F***ING TURN ALREADY?!"
it seriously took this long to ban vanitys... holy... heck
This set marked the beginning of current era yugioh. COTD May be the first set of MR4, but this truly was the age of wildly broken ygo
I'm not looking forward to that, broken ftks from pend ftk culminating in danger dark world ftk that finally got firewall dragon banned, and then there is still gumblar handloops in which literally only tearlaments can survive.
True Draco is my favorite deck of all time. It was the last format I played at regionals. Haven’t been to organized play since. It was the last deck I had fun playing
This was the set where I started playing competitively 😊
Imagine hearing some of the back and forth without being a Yu-Gi-Oh player and being like wtf is chacanut?
This was actually fun to watch, guess I like tier 0 formats
Half the deck is still limited or banned to this day. And they were all at three at the time. Fucking wild
So sad that this series is no longer made.
33:38 Joseph didn't shuffle, that's why he drew Black Sheep; didn't pay off tho 😂
So the current cycle is Pro, Jank, and History will we have a replacement for Sealed Showdown?
I remember getting back into yugioh a week before this set came out
i think this is the first banlist i remember after getting back into yugioh (stopped after extreme victory)
the other master piece doesn't need 3 tributes, just 2 of a Dslayer and a Doverlord, but he probably meant Metaltron XII but nobody remenbers about him
true draco really was a maximum crisis
That was the most valuable Dark Hole in history.
"I guess they took care of ONE problem 5 years later, but then two more rear their ugly head... "
Isn't this just the Konami design policy in a nutshell?
I can't wait until they get closer to nats format and link zoo, the crazy techs that started seeing play made it probably my favorite times in yugioh
11:58 oh no that hit me like a brick wall history is reaching endgame
This was like a month or two before I came back to yugioh links had just released and I was completely confused on everything. Before this all I knew was early synchro format
I’ve never seen masterpiece in action at least until this series, but I remember reading this card and going…
What, what the crap?
How is this remotely fair? Also, it’s also hilarious how much dinosaur support this can be as well.
Honestly this is everything I Love about Yu- Gi -Oh. Combo heavy decks with a lot of decision making, disrubtions without negation, No floodgates (except Flying c, but even that had an out in the decks enginen), years old useless cards becoming relevant and a big ass boss monster with bonkers effects. Amazing episode.
i remember this time for fusion sub drawing so many cards that i could consistently make tierra. it doesn't do anything because zoo is a 1 card combo deck so starting the game with 1 card against blue eyes with nothing else isn't the end of the world but it was flashy and to flashy to be real at that as what got norden in the end really banned was people summoning norden the way he was intended to be summoned
Baboon would still trigger after being destroyed and banished by wiptail, since it doesn’t say “and sent to the graveyard”
I remember this was about when I really started to get into the game and I would show up to locals every week and spend a few hours activating Eternal Soul only for it to be immediately popped by Drident or Masterpeace
My proudest achievement in this format was three super Baobaboons
The boy is back!
Konami, Unban Master Peace. You know you want to.
Did Cimo do a video on Tyrant Neptune for Jank/History?
Honestly, this was one of my favorite formats to play.
Emeral ended up paying for the Sins of Zoodiac Ratpier
Literally fell asleep, woke up and the combo was still going .. smh
It was exactly this list and this set that I rejoined Yugioh properly
I remember watching cimooos video on zoo combos all those yrs ago still💀
This was the format I learned the game in. Fun times.
This was a really fun watch, I have a soft spot for zoo.
Tyrant Neptune got banned here and we didn't see that deck? Or was it only in the ocg and we got it pre emptively banned?
My goodness, I finally get to see why Master Peace if so feared!
Always good to see DM Staples like Dark Hole winning the match in a modern format lol.
This was a rough format to try to keep playing competitive in. I think I was on PK Fire and performapal eyes, and it was just rough to have a good time.
Mbt need to do a series with Gage called the History of Traditional.
Man i played this format. It was so.... "fun" i played zombie good stuff
9 cards in Cimo's extra deck are not allowed under the current ban list... This is truly one of the most powerful decks of all time
People were solemn strikes in zoo in Those days
Actually wish we would move to more scry and seek effects instead of search, both as a way to play around ash and a way to add consistency without making 15 copies of the same exact card
