Hey Sandro, thanks so much for providing such a high level of free detailing education on your channel. It must be hard enough to be a pro detailer just on its own, but you also spend extra time planning, writing, shooting, and editing your videos for us, which must take HOURS. You don't have to this for us, but you do, AND you do it in such a consistently impressive and learned manner. My hat is off to you, sir!
Great tips! Thanks for your time and effort. And one small tip from me (I like photo-videography). As your electrical power frequency is 50Hz (I believe you live in Australia), so use the shutter speed of 1/50 sec or 1/50*x (where x can be anything from 1, 2, 3, 4 and to whatever, as a multiplier ), and as 1/50 is your basic shutter speed, then for best quality 25 frames per second in settings is what you need. This will reduce light flickering in your videos and squeeze the best video quality out of your camera.
I am so glad I found your channel. I have been looking at correcting my own vehicles without having to rely on a detail shop to do it for me and these videos are incredibly detailed and I can't wait to try my hand at it! Thank you for your amazing videos!
Sorry for my eng. Big thanks to you. I was looking for info about fiam pads, and i was sceard that they would not do good cuting. This video realy calmed me down, because i am just starting detailing and i am at the point i have to buy my 1st pad set. And in my contrey i dont have good microfiber pad selection. This technik is a life saver. Big big thanks to you.
So glad i put in the time to watch this whole vid, i was so confused with the the types of pads and compounds, i now believe i have a great understanding and cant wait to polish my car
This is the best video for this subject matter I've come across. And I've been researching this on UA-cam for years. Thank you so much for this video. Sometimes it can be frustrating doing paint correction, and going back to the basics and having good discipline seems to always prevail. This has been a helpful refresher course for me. Thanks!
The blending tip you gave is a real gem and this vid is even great for intermediates. When I moved into intermediate territory, one of my main gripes was I could get a section spot on, but always had to re-do certain small connecting areas where it hadn't blended properly. Wish I'd seen this vid years ago! Going to use this to help me improve.

Rewatching this video because I've just bitten the bullet and purchased a DA polisher. Man, the choice pads on the market in dizzying, so I followed your advice and bought one of each, all Lake Country.
EXCELLENT video for beginners, Sandro! You are spot on!!! Personally, I'd much rather deal with harder paint, as it's much more forgiving when finishing.
This is the absolute best informative and instructional video I have seen to date. I have been looking for something like this for quite some time. Very well done sir and thank you kindly for an excellent video.
DA polisher best beginner machine. Yellow (color code varies by manufacturer)pad and medium cut compound is usually your best starting point for most jobs. Wish I learned on one. But I started with a rotary. So it made me extremely careful and detail oriented. Lucky for my brother. He learned on one. And also the cyclo is a fun machine. Makes you look unique while using one.

Thank you for an excellent video. I have the menzerna medium cut 2500 and menzerna super finish 3500 with chemical guys green hex logic pads and white aswell. From what I've read I think my clear coat is typically medium hardness on a Seat. I have very light swirls, so I think I'll follow your method and maybe try 2 sets of 3500 with the white pads on a panel and see how it responds. As much as I'd like to jump straight in with the 2500 and green pads I think its sound advice starting light. Thanks again!
Summer holidays are becoming detailing days. Lots of time to correct paint - lots of time to binge-watch Sandro doing it properly before I go back to attacking the family vehicles.........:)
hi this was a great video ...i will be hopefully correcting some of my 2003 toyota celica which im guessing could be a soft to medium paint ...i have a new DA polisher as well as menzerna 400 / 2500/3800 with all the menzerna pads incuding powerlock polymer sealant ....your tips should help me to achieve a better finish with hopefully a few scartches and defect free ... thank you
Hi Sandro it went well and the car looks great , i spent a good 7 hours on the car , i removed most of the swirls and the finer scratches , some of the medium scratches but unfortunately i couldnt do anything for the heavy scratches but saying that my car is wrapped on the roof and bonnet and tailgate and wing will be wrapped next year but your video has really helped with my machine ..thanks
Awesome tutorial for a noobie like myself. Lots of info but said in a way easy to understand and relatable. Will be subscribing and checking out your other supporting vids!
Thanks for another great video Sandro. I also did a DIY polish over the weekend. I ended up with little white transparent dots after a 1 stage and 2 stage correction. I can see in your video you have the same little transparent white dots in the paint after the stage 1 correction. May I ask how to remove these dots and what was the cause of the dots? Thanks again Sandro
Those dots tend to be minor pitting in the paint, usually cause by heat and also more common on hoods or bonnets. The only real way to remove or at least reduce their appearance is to cut or level the paint more aggressively, so sometimes it’s better to live with them rather than sacrifice more clear coat removing them, but it’s a choice you can make.
First off excellent video, one of the best well explained videos out there, big help. Couple things about process what about clay bars before going into a heavy cut? I see some videos on that and they seem to prep the car very nice. I know it's an extra step but at the same time you'd theoretically do less heavy cutting right?
Yes, good preparation is vital prior to paint correction, this is another video I did going through that process: ua-cam.com/video/7i4u03UkUs8/v-deo.htmlsi=lxpk_Ryp4AnDmwVl
Great video. I don't think IPA wipe is really as much of an "honesty wipedown" as we all think thou. If you recall I left some comments on your Ultimate Compound video. Tried it. Liked the results. Was wiping off with IPA. I recently switched to wiping off with a grease and wax remover which is much more effective than IPA wipe. Scratches that I thought were gone with UC were actually being filled.
what car was this off it seemed to be a mid - hard clear coat on it. I really do enjoy your vids the way you put the information to people is the right level of giving the right amount without info over load thinks for the link to get the manz stuff the only place in my city that sells it only do 1L bottles really like the 250lm size
Thank you Sandro for the effort you put into your videos... Simply satisfying to watch. QUESTION, Do you use a washer modification on your long throw or did it come free spinning? Also, please pick up a CarPro Flash Pad, and a Lake Country Thin Purple Foam Wool Pad. These pads along with the tried and true microfiber pads on a long- throw DA will put you in the 95 to 99% range on all correction. One of the these 3 has been my go-to for a while now with foam pads only being needed for polishing, finishing, and one steps. Makes for faster working time with no drop or better quality production. Cheers from Houston, Texas, USA
I do whatever my customer is willing to pay for. I always ask what they are expecting and the budget they want to work with. I then inspect with them present and make a recommendation. I do enough one steps, but multi-stage corrections is what pays my bills.
D CarrStar Couldn’t agree more. I’m starting to see many detail shops selling coatings, clear bra’s, and wraps that are self healing when warm water is applied. Guess that is the new way to pay the bills for some of them. Looks cool though.
Car Craft Auto Detailing, I can tell on the video that there is power behind that polisher, NICE! I want to try the Das6 Pro+ but no sellers here. Keep it up industry brother, eagerly waiting on your next vid
D CarrStar the US equivalent of the DasPro Plus is the Shurhold 3500, which you can find on Amazon for a couple hundred dollars. Check out Scotts review of it on YT “Dallas Paint Correction”. 👍🏻
Great video and tips, i used a shinemate with the yellow pad that comes with it and school s20 black , the car have hard clear coat i did two passes became good but is it safe for the clear? I think i did not put too much pressure and maybe faster movement the car never have been polished too best regards :)
That’s a fairly light compounding combination especially if the paint is hard. Well maintained paint is able to resist UV oxidation and environmental contamination much better, so some light polishing and some protection is a great way to look after and maintain it
@@CarCraftAutoDetailingthank you so much, yes the car is always in tip top condition does not really look a daily to be honest 🤣 have a sealant (labocosmetica cupido) and maintenence with they qd and in 3 to 4 wash with revitax :)
Just found your channel and this video. It’s great! Just getting into paint correction so this was very helpful. One question as I’m starting to gather supplies - how many of each type of pad (heavy, medium, fine) should I get to polish one vehicle?
A minimum of two pads of each is vital in a working progress to swap out pads regularly and allow them to cool, you need to manage heat that way. You’ll probably need more like 4-5 pads to get through the whole car as they will become over saturated even with brushing them out, but you could stop wash and dry your two pads and then continue as a method.
Noticed you used the same polisher as the DAS 6 Pro Plus 15mm. I tried my friends DAS 6 Pro Plus 15 and immediately sold my Rupes MK II 15. It has WAY more pad spinning power than the MK II. Not quite as smooth as the MK II, but good enough for me.
Wow 👌 This is a great tutorial that I needed. I've never done this before but I'm interested in learning. How many foam pads would it be normal to go through in just the front hood? And the entire car, once you find the right compound? 😊 Thank you.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing This video is really, really good. I just bought the Meguire's mt300 polisher bc I see that that company has alot of products to offer. Anyway, I will be looking at your channel alot, till the moment I have all the tools (sprays and whatnot) and the courage that I will not destroy my car's paint. 😊 have a great weekend, and merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Another great video Sandro. Clear, detailed, yet easy to follow advice. Thank you for the time you put into your channel. I'm waiting for fairer weather & I'll be doing it myself. I'm putting my kit together, but I have to work outside & it's always raining here in England at the moment. Bring on the spring time! Quick question. Do you or have you used Bilt Hamber cleaning products? I'm really interested in there autowash & autofoam. Everyone seems to rave about them, but I value your opinion above all others. If you've reviewed them in a previous video (I've watched most of yours), please remind me which one. All the best!
Hi Sandro, i love your videos, your accent aswell, which is very easy to understand. Thanks a lot for this informative video. My question is simple. Would you recommend Menzerna 400 heavy cut or Menzerna 2500. Which one would you recommend to a beginner/amateur user as a one step compound? I am a lazy one :) (Just forget about their prices) thank you in advance.
Thanks mate and I think 2400 is a better place to start overall as a beginner. Even if the paint is hard it should still improve the finish quite well abs you can always step up to 400 on the future after a bit more practice.
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing thanks ☺️ the good part of 400 is beeing a heavy cut compound but also leaves a very impressive finish on the paint and is not very necessary to go on and finish with another compound. 2400/2500 is doing the similar job but called medium cut. I think i will go with this one also it is cheaper :) by the way my car is 11 year old black metallic Corsa D, rather has medium soft paint and medium level defects let's say.
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Sandro, i actually have some Meguiares Ultimate compound somewhere at the garage. Do you think getting Menzerna 2400 would be a waste of money? Should I use Ultimate compound instead? If the final result wont be that big, maybe i should try Ultimate compound first? Or they are totally in another league? Thanks in advance
Ultimate Compound probably sits between Menzerna 400 & 2400 in terms of cut and finish so it could certainly be worth a go especially since you already have it.
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing thank you. Maybe this may sound crazy for you but you are a pro detailer and i think you have thought about such things in the past too. Do you think mixing/making a combo with meg. ultimate compound and autoglym super resin polish, applying on DA polisher at once and work like this on the paint is a crazy move or a smart one? :) I saw some videos online and the final result looks decent and bring more shine to the paint (btw i bought both products after watching your videos)
Hey Sandro, great video man 👍 I'm going to get into polishing but had a question regarding DA polishers. I have a 12mm Shinemate polisher, with a 3inch backing plate. Am I able to swap to bigger backing plates? Like 5inch? Cheers!
Glad you found the video helpful! DA polishers (unlike rotaries) have counter weights to balance their movements which are specific to each machine and it’s backing plate and pad sizes. Although you can put larger or smaller backing plates and pads on any DA, what happens is that it throws that balance off and the machine will run rough generally leading to a poor user experience, poorer results and increased machine wear. So you can do it, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it 🙂
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Okay cool. I may see how I'll go with my 12mm, and then get a bigger DA if needed. Cheers again for answering my annoying questions 😂👌
Hard to say for sure why that’s happening, but you could try either working it a little longer or shorter - if polishes are over worked or not worked enough they can be difficult to wipe. You could also try halving the amount of polish you use, as typically when using finer finishing polishes less is more. The other thing is just making sure your pads army overloaded with residue - as that will also tend to create difficult wipe offs.
Thank you Sandro. Going to detail my car for the first time this weekend. What's the best way to polish the edges and corners of I only have a 5 inch da polisher (shine mate 605 I believe I have). Is it ok to machine polish over the edges of would it be better for me to polish by hand?
I just bought a ‘98 BMW Z3 that’s not been well cared for. There’s some clear coat coming off & just in general the paint is full with marks (lines) from something. I know I’ll never be able to make it look new again, but I don’t know anything about the paint (if it’s hard or soft), so I don’t know how to proceed. Do you have any videos working on a car with a lot of damage or can you suggest what I should do. I certainly don’t want to cause any more damage. Thanks 🙏🏼
The video link below may further help understand the paint correction process, but if you have clear coat failure - meaning it’s coming off or missing - you can’t correct that, the panel need to be repainted. Deep scratches can be removed if they are contained in the clear coat but not it they have gone through to the base or primer paint. ua-cam.com/video/6tepA3wjPbY/v-deo.html
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Thank you! I know it can’t be repaired, but I was wondering if the raised edges could be melted into the finish with something like acetone. 🤷♀️. I’ll watch the video. I live in Hawaii & they want a fortune to repaint a car, so I’m on my own.
Best vid I've seen so far and I've been studying an array of them for 9 months now. Cheers to Aus! You really addressed the info that everyone else is missing. Now I'm sure there's no real substitute for a good scangrip light(s), but... just starting out, will a basic LED 🔦flashlight (torch) serve me well enough to spot the defects necessary? Thanks!
Thanks for your time to make such a great video. Just wonder if this Menzerna Car Polish Set: 1000 + 2500 + 3500 will work on geal coat of my sailplane? Got scratch marks left from 1000, 1200, 1500 and 2000 grit wet sanding and need a solution now.
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing thanks for reply just found designated stuff: Menzerna Gelcoat Series: 1-cut compound 2. Fine cut + gloss polish 3-Premium Gloss 4 3in-Premium Protection. One-step Polish and Liquid sanding also available. Will buy correct stuff for job. 3M paste and deglazing did not work well so won't risk again with car product
Great video, I think the Menzerna is just not a great product as im still have scratches to after several passes, Im going with a better product and returning this whole set, thanks
Hi sedro, just wondering what you think the causes of holograms are? I’ve heard it the cause of a variable speed polished & also the cause of a rotary? Or is it because the pad is too soft and flimsy?
Hi Sandro What cheap DA polisher would you recommend for a person who has no previous polishing experience and what compounds that are easy to work with and perhaps that can even be used outside? Thanks
Really good video thanks a lot. I noticed you suggested in the video if what you use doesn't quite get rid of the swirls then to use a more aggressive compound and foam pad. What particular foam pad and compound would that be as an example? Thanks :D
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Thanks for the quick reply. a Microfibre or wool pad but used with the same compound, right? Also I am watching your video on the pads... firstly its really useful and secondly I noticed for the HDO blue pad you talk about the cleaning procedure taking twice as long. What is your procedure for cleaning it? Thanks again bud
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Just made an order for TLC off Waxit. Look forward to getting it. I also ordered the LC MicroFibre HDO Pad. Is the same procedure applied with Microfibre pads? For example.. Do I prime the pad with the compound first then apply 3 dots? Do I also keep the speed on setting 5 and apply about 5 pounds of pressure as I would with foam pads? Also I have been meaning to ask you. If I got only 1 foam pad for compounds, if I clean it well enough after each use, can I use that same pad using different compounds? Thanks
Great video. I only use rotary for small areas or finishing. Personally i find it cant outcut long throws unless using super agressive 10" twisted woolpad. But its very uncomroftable, messy and finishes poorly.
hey man i hope you'll be able to respond to this comment. I'm going to be starting paint correction on my hyundai, and i understand asian cars typically have softer paint. I won't really have the budget to buy that many pads and compounds, so i'll likely grab sonax perfect finish to do a 1 step polish. would u recommend me getting a heavy cutting pad + finishing pad ? or a medium pad will suffice?
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Thanks for replying! So for beginners, would you recommend grabbing a heavy cutting pad or a medium cut pad? What would be a good set of liquids/pads for a beginner to acquire for his/her first DIY paint correction?
Car Craft Auto Detailing thanks for the reply...so does it clean off just residue..or also swirl marks and haze from compound? And it doesn't affect the finish?
Excellent vid and tips. You da man! By the way, I think that strobe effect in the vid is the flicker of the fluorescent lights roughly corresponding with/against your camera's shutter speed.

D CarrStar So utilizing those three pads, you’re not doing many one step jobs?
An amazing amount of information. Thanks Sandro, from a fellow Melbournian
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing thanks!
Awesome info
Wow 👌
This is a great tutorial that I needed. I've never done this before but I'm interested in learning. How many foam pads would it be normal to go through in just the front hood? And the entire car, once you find the right compound? 😊
Thank you.
Typically I’ll use 3-4 pads at a time, keep swapping and rotating them throughout the day after every few sets of passes to allow the pads to cool.
Exactly what I was looking for in a paint correction video! Thanks!
Thanks! i've always struggle if its needs more or ist it done. Especially the part about going further with heavier cutting compounds. Thanks
Great video and tips !
Hi Sandro, i use Menzerna Super Finish Plus 3800 + Finishing Foam Pad. the problem is, why its hard to buff ? its like the panel grab the microfiber

Thanks!
Very well explained!!!
Great video bro , thanks for the great tips .
Hi, great video again. One question. How can you tell if a car paint is hard or soft? Thanks.
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing
Thanks Sandro, you've just cleared up a burning question I've wanted to ask a professional detailer for a while.
Thank You! Awesome Video for me and so easy to follow ...Thanks again !
Great video, I think the Menzerna is just not a great product as im still have scratches to after several passes, Im going with a better product and returning this whole set, thanks
Editor: So you how much slow mo you want in this video?
Guy: yyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessss
Hi sedro, just wondering what you think the causes of holograms are? I’ve heard it the cause of a variable speed polished & also the cause of a rotary? Or is it because the pad is too soft and flimsy?
What type of pad should I get for the compound step if I have a dual action polisher?
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Thank you very much! So helpful
Between Menzerna 3500 & 3800 which one u will suggest, if I have rest of the 2 i.e 400 & 2400
3500 is what’s really been available here locally, I’m not sure how different 3800 is
Hi Sandro
What cheap DA polisher would you recommend for a person who has no previous polishing experience and what compounds that are easy to work with and perhaps that can even be used outside?
Thanks
what if i used a hard cutting compond and a soft pad (for polishing for example) and what if used the inverse a polisher with a hard pad ?
Hi Sandro, were those sanding marks or regular swirls before you started correcting?
Thanks
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing You're a diamond of a bloke... all this useful free help you give along with videos... Can't thank you enough!
Do you use the machine to wax aswell?
Sometimes. You’d just use a foam finishing or waxing pads and low speeds.
Nicely put up mate
What backing pads are you using in this video?
Great video. I only use rotary for small areas or finishing. Personally i find it cant outcut long throws unless using super agressive 10" twisted woolpad. But its very uncomroftable, messy and finishes poorly.
Hello
Is it good to do so 3-4 passes
That’s usually a good amount
I use that exact light. Its expensive but it keeps me honest. 😂
Great video. Can anyone please tell me if a VW scirroco 2012 is hard or soft paint and the best combo to remove swirl marks thanks
hey man i hope you'll be able to respond to this comment.
What exactly does the spray that your putting on do? And what is it called?
Car Craft Auto Detailing thanks for the reply...so does it clean off just residue..or also swirl marks and haze from compound? And it doesn't affect the finish?
Car Craft Auto Detailing thanks for the reply
Excellent vid and tips. You da man! By the way, I think that strobe effect in the vid is the flicker of the fluorescent lights roughly corresponding with/against your camera's shutter speed.
Or it seems to rather be that when you're slowing down parts of the vid, it just shows the fluorescents flicker. Weird visual effect.
amazing video, thankyou for the great tips
