A fan casually walked on stage with Phil Anselmo and Pantera and stood there until he was tackled. Thoughts on how he was able to smoothly get up there unnoticed?
With the history of this band and the dark cloud over the remaining members of this band I think that was a very , very stupid move on this guy's part whether he meant any ill intent or not
@MetalSpeck I tattooed this dude after it went down. I swear to God I could tell he didn't know shit as he told me the story. I didn't know anything about the incident and hadn't seen any footage at that point. I wanted to go to the show but chose to work instead. As he sits in my chair, he talks about how he was instafamous. His phone kept blowing up. So, I bit and asked him who he was. He told me he was tackled on stage at Pantera. He said he got on stage and was in awe of the crowd before the shock of security hit him. He claimed members of an opening band pointed him toward the stage and told him that was the way out. He also claimed to be drunk. This dude tells me Phil looked at him and smiled. I immediately responded, Yeah, cause security was about to get him." I was right, of course. I immediately asked him how old he was. 30s. I'm 45. Figures. I then go, "You didn't even think about what happened to Dimebag?" I also mentioned Chapelle. He claims he didn't even think about it. And, you do indeed see Phil look over and smile right before he was tackled. He got a dagger from our get what you get machine. Maybe that's his motto. I'm sure he got what he got from Pantera's security. Allegedly!

Not smart on this guy’s part, whether he meant ill will or not. Considering the band’s past and how some potential loons may feel about Phil and/or Rex or the other guys. Phil at least at one point enjoyed people onstage with him. I’ve seen and met him twice with Superjoint Ritual and the first time in 2003 in Ft Lauderdale a buddy of mine drew the first album cover on the Venezuelan flag and gave it to him. The band ended up hanging it over the confederate flag the entire show, and since we stood on the steps to the stage, we got great pictures and even went on with Phil between songs. I got pictures with him and with my buddy with my disposable Kodak camera. Obviously those were different times and previous to Dine’s death. Met him again in 07-08 in Tallahassee, FL and actually chatted with him. Awesome guy! I tell you THOSE were the good ol’ days!
The problem is (ironically) ever since the Dimebag Darrell incident in 2004, security detail have to be much more preventative than they used to, when it comes to well known bands and musicians. There’s a lot more craziness out there that flat out just wasn’t nearly as common in say 2003 and back.

I guess the band members know the risk of someone assaulting Anselmo considering the history behind pantera. Also, there are many pissed that they did not respect Vinnie's wish
@RockinExperience I'm not surprised. I went to ozzfest one year and he made us all sit through like a 20-minute guitar solo. And that was with ozzy, after already sitting through BLS. I'm not a fan of his playing either.

Things have changed today. Cannot be up on that stage with the band anymore. And we all know exactly why.

I remember the days when people would be getting on the stage and do stage dives all night long at concerts.
Still do at hardcore shows - no barricades.
