- The new KENWOOD dmx1057xr is here and packs a huge list of feature. Msrp is 1200 bucks though so this is not a cheap unit. Let’s dive in and check out the features.

For you not to be a car audio guy, I say you did great on explaining everything. I like the dashcam setup, but I already have a front and rear setup along with the factory backup cam. But compared to the professional installer vids I've watched, it's great to get the info from everyday user.
I just bought one for my 2011 Nissan Titan. I really like it because I can connect my phone wireless and put all the pictures up and listen to the songs that I like on UA-cam. Thank you for the video and look forward to seeing more.

I just installed it in My car last night. I learned the hard way. Read the directions completely. Sadly I gotta pull it all back out again. I need to get idatalink maestro programed. I haven't owned a laptop in years. But what I have running now is great and I still haven't gotten all the features going yet. I put it in my 2012 Chevy Traverse.

Thanks for this video and answering other folks questions that I was going to ask myself! I was looking at the DNR1007, until I found the DMX1057. I can't justify spending an extra $400 for navigation, that I will probably never use. Also, seeing this in a Tundra ( I own a 2017 TRD Pro), makes me more comfortable getting one.

Thanks for all the guidance and tips. I installed this morning and it took about 4 hours... For some reason my car was wired differently than their diagrams. Crutchfield stay with me to the end. It's working great.. Will need to adjust the screen height as now I can't see the temperature. Lol

I got mine installed in my 19 tundra on Friday. I love it but I’m still trying to figure out it’s full potential basically just been using wireless car play.

@@liljerm22 to use mirroring on iPhone you have to use it via hdmi. Wireless mirroring doesn’t seem to work on iPhone.
Did you have to use any harness to get everything working ?
Yes the entire idata mastreo harness. Definitely makes it easy
I'll do my own video after I get my idatalink maestro mmr2 programmed and install in my car with radio working with it. Right now I just radio and Bluetooth working

Everyone always says no one uses dvds 😭😭😭 but I use them religiously when my phone is KIA or has trouble connecting as things often do
The 1057 has an HDMI input that you can plug a DVD player in. I use a Fire TV stick with my phone as a hotspot.

I just got this unit for my tundra also! I got a alpine unit but I don’t really like it! I waited 7 month due to chip shortage ! Have not install yet because lack of time! Since I already got mastro RR installed maybe just plug and play 😃

Great review. Ive had this head unit for 3 months now and im loving it. Have you tried connecting connecting a roku or firestick via hdmi? I tried it but all i get is no hdmi found.
Still good years later? Is the button backlighting always cycling through colours or is that a custom setting? I, personally, would want a solid colour.
Maybe 2021 model will have a smaller bezel

The wireless Android Auto doesn't pickup where you left off. It sounds good as a selling point, but imo the wired is better. You have to press Android Auto, and select what you want but the wireless doesn't seem to remember where you left off. It is too many extra steps with the wireless. The wireless is always connected, but you have to select everything like you are starting over. He says you get what you pay for, but my 1057xr is doing random reboots.

the bypass is only t-tapping the light green wire to the ground wire

How to get weather, i have iphone and see the icon for weather but not sure how to access the info. Also trying to charge my iphone while using apple carplay, not charging , may be my cord. And how do u vet mirroring for iphone on screen, i had them install that feature too. Thx

how can you use the factory microphone built into the vehicle if possible? if not, does it come with a mic you can place within the cabin?
also with the datalink maestro, what features have you seen added to its functionality?
It uses a different mic that I have hooked up behind the screen. As for functionality I haven’t noticed any thing new. Still has customizable data screens with info for your vehicle. I did do a software update on it a few days ago.
& what input does the microphone go into, the 3.5mm on the rear connections side of the stereo?
Correct. The system comes with a mic for hookup

You will have to run a mic. I ran it over to the instrument panel and have it near the steering wheel
@@oneluckybullet2135 last question...I promise lol. Did you have to remove panels other than the center dash for the ODBII or can than be run without removing kick panels/ other stuff? Also how long did the install take? I like to over prepare lol
I didn’t remove anything except the ac panel and usb the panel. Took around two hours for everything. Was actually super easy
I assume you used the maestro harness. Did you need to plug any RCA jacks for sound? I have 2 on the harness that may go to the radio?
@@diablonyc2 if they are white and another color you need to cut them make sure you follow the instructions on the idata site to make sure it matches

The company they contracted for that app went out of business. It will never work.

How is the reliability/stability of the wireless CarPlay connection? Also, is the off axis viewing quite good?
Thank you for the review , do you mind sharing what other components are needed for the installation on the tundra ? Did you need a specific harness to get it to work with the steering buttons? Does it use the mic from the truck or do you need to wire an external one ?
You have to use an external one. I used the idata rr2 version. The USB adapter. The antenna adapter. And the sirus xm antenna adapter.

Awesome video. I'm about to pull the trigger on this unit for my 08 Tundra. Can you run an HDMI extension cable then plug in a fire stick or Roku for viewing?
Yes you can. You will need to bypass the ebrake though to view it while moving.

What kind of backup camera did you install and are you able to view it while you're driving
I’m using the stock backup one and I installed the KENWOOD front camera. Yes you can view them while you are driving.
When you start vehicle and radio comes on does it give you a warning not to drive while watching videos?
How’s the sound quality compare to the stock unit? Did you bypass the stock amp or you kept everything stock?

You will need one. The built in one is in the unit itself. The antenna will work but you will need an adapter

Does it have a UA-cam app to play videos and does it have google play store on it?
Good review. Does it dim when you dim your factory gauges? If not can you dim it down a lot for night driving?
Yes you can. It also has an auto dimming mode too

Great review! I have a question. How is the glare? This unit is suppose to have that bonding agent that makes glare not as noticeable. Could you tell?
So far so good. I haven’t noticed any glare and I travel a lot

How long is the boot time to music? My 1007XR takes 20-25 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds great. My tundra has the amplifier and jbl audio. This helps push it and sounds great
You mentioned that you also had the DDX9907XR. Clearly, this one is nicer but how did you like the 9907? I like all of the feature but thinking I'd like to stick with in dash.
It’s good. For me I like the 1057. I put the 9907 in my daughters car
ive got a brand new 2021 tundra trd sport. all jacked up and renecked out lol. so my question i sdid you have to use the data link maestro to get everything to work for your sirius fm and blue tooth and gps module and for the steering wheel

Which is better? Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX or this Kenwood DMX1057XR and why is better? More Sound Quality or what
I would go with KENWOOD. The pioneer has Alexa built in but the problem is the sluggish ui. The KENWOOD has more sound options and allows more control.
What does the knob feel like? Cheap plastic or metal?
Have a 2019 Highlander - does your truck have the birds eye view? Does this support that feature?
It does support it and side camera tech as well

Use a FireTV or Roku on the HDMI input. Works great.

I want to know how you got your Google maps up on as part of the screen and werr able to have other stuff on there as well. I can't figure that out on mine. It's at 6:51.
That’s Apple CarPlay. Wireless. Home Screen of it allows music and maps to run at same time. Go in settings of iPhone. General. CarPlay. Then customize.
I installed mine yesterday. Nice unit! I know this is going to sound silly, but how do you actually turn the HD radio OFF?
I don’t think you can. I don’t use it. I use sirus or carplay

Somebody help me out here. I have this exact unit in my 2019 Tundra, but the weather widget doesn't work. Also when I make/receive calls through CarPlay, the other person can hear me, but I can't hear them at all. I don't even hear it ring. If I call via simple bluetooth then it works perfectly.
Any suggestions?
Make sure CarPlay is set up under devices. As for hearing you and not hearing them it sounds like something with CarPlay and or speakers crossed
@@oneluckybullet2135 What about the weather widget? Did you use the supplied GPS antenna that comes with the head unit or the adapter for the stock Tundra antenna? I bought the adapter from Crutchfield, and that's the only thing I can figure that keeps the weather widget from working.
Adapter but for the widget you have to use the inxs app from KENWOOD
How is the display with sunlight/glare?
I’ll say it’s very good. My only complaint would be fingerprints. They show up but I usually wipe it down every couple days.

I installed the 1057 in my Highlander Limited using the stock camera and it is pixelated too. It works good enough to see what is behind you.

Was leaning toward the Alpine Halo 9 until reviews came back that revealed unit had VERY poor resolution. You said upcoming Halo 11 is but 420? That’s horrible. This KENWOOD 1057XR is HD. Can you see the screen clearly? Is the font size adjustable? Are you using KENWOOD’s optional Maestro data link? If so, how well does it function? This unit has high resolution audio (24/196) capability. I’m curious if you had the opportunity to listen to it? I have an older Pioneer, high end NEX unit that is frankly, an expensive, buggy POS. Excellent review - thanks!
This unit is perfect. I’ve had no issues unlike the 8600next from pioneer. I agree that the alpine is a disappointment. Why 480p on an 11 inch screen? I do have the idata hooked up and it functions perfectly. The sound is great on this and the ability to control every sound aspect is great.

Actually makes a big improvement. I just recently switched out my stock speakers to alpine components.

I got this radio in a 2018 RAV4 but the door notification check engine notification is not working do you know do yours work in the tundra

I didn't do no initializing maybe that's the problem

Voltage on the outputs. And I believe the weather app for it

You would need to remove the six screws holding the cover and screen

Does this receiver have recording capability built in using the rear or front cameras? Or do the cameras need to have that recording capability built in?
The cameras would need the recording built in. I’m using the KENWOOD camera for the front and it records great

Do you think that it’s worth the price compared to other off brand dash cams in the same category?
Absolutely. Plus you can save all and manually record if you want. It also has a proximity alert system

I have this unit in my 2019 Tundra and love it. One problem: I have the traffic INRIX app, and I still don’t get weather. Did you use the factory gps antenna or the one that came with the new head unit? Is there something else I’m missing?
I used the factory one. You can get it from crutchfield for around 20 bucks.
