I have two words for preventing broken bolts. TORQUE WRENCH!!

Yeah, but it aint of no help with darn diddly rusty bolts that snap off like turds baked in sunlight just when you look at them with a regular spanner...
I have. It was a lame day. Early 2000’s camrys had valve cover issues and changes. Not to take away from your point though
Sorry, but for 50-60 hp gains, you need a K&N cold air intake(preferably from Auto Zone)

you need a autozone brand SPOILER for 50-60 horsepower.
a CAI (that means cold air intake for you non car people :^) ) will get you 300 horsepower easily, my cousin with a honda civic EK hatch says so
If you paint brake calipers red you'll gain 80 hp
Alex should go for the job on top gear. He would be awesome 😄
And that is why you always torque bolts to spec...and replace the valve cover gasket rather than just tightening the bolts.

I've snapped bolts on my Miata's valve cover before too. It's easy to do.. It was a middle bolt too! Thank god enough was sticking out I could twist it out with my fingers.

Dont worry too much about the cam cover bolts, the OEM ones snap very easy (ask me how i know). I got a whole new set of marine grade bolts instead, also avoid torquing them down a lot.

Dude I repainted my valve cover two weeks ago and was tightening the LAST bolt to make sure it was snug and *snap* it broke off with probably 2mm sticking out of the block! Those chrome bolts aren’t very durable, just ordered some stainless ones. But I feel your pan!

Just did it on my 96. I shaved/trimmed most of the fan leg shroud and it went right in 🤷🏽♂️.
Had one on my 1.6 was a pain in the arse as you have to put a spacer in the thermostat housing, but it sounded ace

Alex, that engine bay needs a cleaning, dude. A repaint for the valve cover wouldn't hurt either.
Have you changed phils rocker cover gasket yet that probs why he his leaking out of there
***** Yeah, my guess is it's the original gasket that's 20+ years old and hard as concrete. If you are breaking bolts trying to stop your cam cover leaking, then you need a new gasket and/or PCV valve. It's such a cheap an easy job, but hardly anyone ever seems to bother doing it.
Matthew Sharpe My thoughts exactly, lets not forget the bolts should be torqued to spec, thus tightening bolts is never going to help. At the end of the day on a engine like this its not a tough job and has a much higher priority on my list than a cold air intake.

I just had a look at one of these kits it costs around £250-£300 which is fucking mental for just about no gains at all honestly mate would of been better saving this money for a supercharger or turbo setup
WHy don't more manufacturers just build a cold-air intake as stock? Pretty much all Mercs from 2000 onwards have the intake vents leading to straight behind the grille.
I am really curious about how it will end

If you would have an engine with 500HP you would probably gain around 30HP with proper filter.On MX5 I would say you get less than 5HP. But hey we will wait on resaults from mr. Dyno

Miata builds are common, its unlikely mcm had much affect
From my old air cooled vw days (were air flow was sacred), it seems to me that many of these air intake mods forget that air flow shouldn't be restricted.
I'm seeing a lot of boxes completely blocking air flow to fans and filters crammed into nooks sitting on the frame and with one inch of space between the filter and underside of the hood. Kind of defeats the purpose but I guess if it works...
You'd have thought for 300 quid the wiring would have connectors to plug and play

I want to do a Racing Beat CAI and heat shield to match my exhaust system. Speaking of which, why doesn't Alex get a high flow catalytic converter and ditch that old rust can killing his power??? They're not very expensive.

So you can only run that intake with stock radiator? Would it fit with double row aluminum radiator???
How do you guys get around the fact it fails the MOT emissions test? (At 14 degrees anyhow). I have to take mine off for each test. (1991 mk1)
