Good video. I've started a retirement hobby and resurrect dead or dying gas powered equipment. 99% of discarded stuff is dirty carb issues. First thing i do is clean them.
Good luck with your new hobby. Fixing junk is harder than fixing people's good equipment that just won't start or run right.
Finally someone who knows how to work a carb & uses a hemostat on small & delicate cramped parts. Now for the $10,000 question. I am getting very small particles in my carb which causes it to not start. I’ve cleaned the gas tank, replaced all fuel lines, installed fuel filter & cleaned carb all the way down to even removing the idle valve. It runs fine for awhile then the problem comes back.
Great video. A few things, always inspect the rubber sealing tip on your needle for grooves or hard lines. That is a big failure point. Also carb cleaner will eat the tip away or cause it fall off. You can use a tiny bit of toothpaste on your q-tip to polish the seat. Those Thermostatic chokes are a pain!!! Keep um coming.
I like that you didn't edit out the gas line gaff. We all miss things (video or not) and it just means that we are human. Nice tip on the position of the auto choke linkage.
I'm having this issue, but it's frustrating because i have a new carb. It was also doing it with the old.
Everybody says it is the carb, in my case it doesn't look that's the case
I also have a new carb and it leaks out the air filter. Same with the old carb. Did you ever solve your problem?

Probably not that difficult once you do a few of them and remember how it goes. The problem is I already forgot how it goes. It is funny how often I refer to my own videos when I'm having a brain fart on something.
I have never worked on a Kohler but agree with you and others ... ugh. I checked & one can get that carb plus gaskets, fuel filter, & shut off for $12 on ebay with US shipping from KY. So, its really not worth it to rebuild. I had a Tecumseh carb that kept flooding even though I cleaned it & set the float height correctly. Even performed the "blow" test successfully. Spent hours unsuccessfully on the problem. Then I bought a carb for it for $8.25 ... worked great! Should have done that from the get-go.
I am not a fan of these motors but like me you fix what comes in. Good job Bob. They are very powerful though.
I like these motors, they run strong. I just am not a fan of the auto choke on any engine.
So I have this motor and I have replaced the carb with a new one and it still does it also with the new and old carb it would throttle down when the filter was applied... and ideas?

Noticed the engine still wasn't running right after the fix, especially on startup?? . Hesitation, inconsistent RPM. Did the customer notice? Did it smooth out and never return?
Watch gas on the driveway it will eat holes in the driveway. You do not want that. Great video , I did one last week .
I try and only deal with gas on the concrete. This video just shows an accident I made by not connecting the fuel line.
Great video sir. I can't edit my videos so everyone gets to see my mistakes ( I'd rather I didn't have any though ) any other person would have edited out the part of forgetting the gas an then hooking up the line but you didn't and that's what makes your channel awesome.....in my opinion

My spring was crushed got a new one still leaking, needle clean and moves fine
single cylinder engines the needle/float does'nt move much. few years ago when i bought a $800 farmall m went to pick it up that morning he was seeding oats with it but it was smokey real bad. got it home drained the oil pan it filled a 5 gallon pain FULL of gas! turns out the carb float hinge pin fell out so the needle/float was not working at all. he said over the phone the tractor "needs a tune up" lol
Never had a hinge pin fall out while in use. Interesting.

What can I say sometimes we screw up. At least it started for me and ran correctly.
mine leaks from where the carb where it meets the intake. if i push the carb onto the intake it won't leak. when it is bolted down it lets the carb leak. it's seems it won't tighten down enough
At the end of the video you said if was still leaking fuel to check out the little air tubes and blow them out, sometimes they are clogged. PLEASE, can you leave comment/photos exactly where the air tubes are you are mentioning? There are two connected to the air filter box. Is this what you are referring to? The smaller one is clear(vent to the fuel tank) is it the larger one you are talking about? If so, how do I check this one?

nice video. I had a toro engine leaking gas even after ultrasonic cleaning it. I tried the qtip thing with carb cleaner and it didn't touch it. had to use some auto buffing compound. wow it came out black even after 3x then finished up with carb cleaner. No leaks. these carbs suck because you can't find rebuild kits. if you know of one let me know. thanks.

I did talk to Bruce and set mine up just like him. I have since changed my top to an old countertop with a welded T angle going around which is really nice for hold tools from rolling off. My size is about 38" X 26" so it holds my biggest snowblower Ariens 12HP. I use it often for unloading my truck and I was thinking it may be easier to put a snowblower on the cart then jack it up to the tailgate of the truck rather than using ramps. Like when a snowblower won't start or has flat tires.
@@doublewide6 Thanks Bob. I was thinking a little larger top about your dimensions. The added T edges are a good idea so you don't have to chase dropped tools and such. I got the 1000# lift from Harbor Frieght and really like it. You and your family have a good Thanksgiving, Ray.
You are the first person I have seen on UA-cam that mentioned the float and carb body should be roughly parallel. I have worked on a hundred plus Nikki 6 carburetors and have notice that the float with a new needle valve with spring will go just about all the way to the top of the plastic carb body part. You have to either use heat to bend the float hinge part that holds the needle for adjustment or buy a new briggs float hinge part that seats into the carb body with a neoprene gasket that costs sixty plus dollars. Either way you either know this trick or you go the cheap route using CHINA MAN aftermarket carburetor and take your chances. Most of the time a quick replacement at the repair shop will let you down within a few months. Trust me as I have fixed so many that I am just puzzled as to why engineers would design this to either get back at his employer or just not give a damn. Either way the customer gets the shaft for sure. Just letting everyone know the facts. Good day too. VF
I need a diagram of the linkages. My engine has a couple linkages missing.

chinas finest Kohler,i had one that gave me fits and turned out the gas cap vent was plugged. i have a 90,000 btu oil fired hot air furnace in my garage,i can work in a T shirt easily in the winter
Now that is a shop heater. I got to the point that I have so many jobs to do that I just needed the heat in the garage.
