This was the best video showing how to connect fuel lines to the correct component. All others left me guessing. Thanks guys, good job!
Took me two days working on the fuel lines trying to figure out where those hoses went. Thanks for video. Your description is slow, but it's 100 times better than the others I watched. The others made me more and more frustrated. Especially the shaky videos and lacking description.
Thanks so much!
Great video demonstration outstanding method of explaining the steps to preform and what results to look for. Thanks for being so through.
WHAT CAUSES TOO MUCH COMPRESSION IN A 2 CYCLE ENGINE? I HAVE 2 HOMELITE WEEDEATERS=ONE PULLS AVERAGE, THE OTHER PULLS HARD, LIKE TOO MUCH COMPRESSION.
It could be carbon buildup on top of the piston and in the combustion chamber.
That was very well done easy to understand and very informative. Thanks
This video was gangbusters! I looked at many other videos that purported to show the fuel line routing but none of them did. This video showed how to figure it out on any two-stroke which is a lot like teaching a man to fish. I quickly determined the correct routing and my saw started right up. Thanks much. Now I'm going fishing.
@bosstweed429 The return line does not need to be submerged. It sounds like you are having some issues with a carburetor that is dirty or the internal components have deteriorated. Take a look at our videos titled "How to Rebuild a Two Cycle/Two Stroke Engine Carburetor" and "How to Clean a Two-Cycle/Two-Stroke Engine Carburetor".
I hope this helps,
-Mark
FINALLY,, a truly instructive video on this subject.I will START with your instructions next time.
An excellent piece of work, clear and concise..thank you!!
Ken
Thank you, this was exactly the information that I needed. I really appreciate it.
Cut the end of the fuel line at a sharp angle. This will make the line much easier to insert. Hemostats also are very helpful if working in a tight space.
I hope this helps,
-Mark
Nice job, very well explained and demonstrated.
This was immensely helpful! I have been looking everywhere for fuel line diagrams for my string trimmer, but watching your video shows me how I can figure out the right configuration for any motor. Thank you!
QUESTION:
Hi, Since you didn't actually install the lines into a Weed Eater fuel tank, this leaves me with the unanswered question whether the return line must be long enough to stay submerged in the fuel OR, does it simply have to reach the tank to dump the fuel back to the tank? I did everything else correctly, still not working. Thanks in advance.
This video was extremely helpful for I am just now dealing with a remote prime for the first time.
good informative video. i wasn't aware that the primer bulb didn't push fuel into the carburetor. i thought it pushed it in. now i know it doesn't. great video!!!!!
hi. my chainsaw poulan p3314 works only in a full choke, wht I do
Thank you for ending my several week ordeal. My saw sat in a metal building (Texas heat) for years. All the lines had broke off and were so brittle they would crush when touched.... Many videos show information but my problem was that most videos I had watched before this was that the had both lines on the same side of the carb. Mine has one on each side and no one explained the flow of fuel. You did a hell of a quick explaination. Wife was ready for me to trash it , buy a new one and get some work done. I guess the days of staring at it and drinking a cold one are over. Many , many Thanks
As always a great simple video instruction. I'm in the middle of a project and seem never to draw a schematic of the way the lines are supposed to be...thanks
Very helpful! I was looking for this exact explanation. Great video.
Very good video, exact same carb that was on my Ryobi, very helpful thanks.
Excellent tutorial Mark...just the video I've been looking for, Straight forward English and well thought through.
Great video. Thanks for the help. I have a poulan pole saw I just replaced the fuel lines on. And I had the fuel lines reversed. Again thanks a million.
thanks now I can fix my weedeater thanks
Thanks a lot helped me fix my chainsaw. Found out I had my lines all wrong. Thanks again.
Excellent video, thanks!
Thanks that was very helpful, now I understand how the fuel should flow,,thanks jack
you sir fixed my problem exactly your a genius thankyou
Excellent video...the best I found on replacing fuel lines on 2-cycle engines. Question: Does the return line need to be submerged in fuel or can it be above the fuel? Thank you very much!
Yep! Helpful video. Thanks.
WHEN PRIMING POULAN PP330 GAS LEAKS OUT THE BREATHER AREA
Mark, thank you very much. This was very helpful and explained it all perfectly. Very well made.
Man !!! I wish I could give 100 Thumbs up (likes) for this video. This really helped me
I figured it out on my own when my hoses on a little tiller I have gave out due to dry rot. I fixed it with new hoses on the fly, with out removing carb. Watching your video helped explain more what I did and why. Thanks.
On a 2 cycle carburetor that is mix with oil and gas, can the already mixed container of 50.1 mix be use.?
WOW! Thanks to this video and the one on rebuilding a carburetor I got my Poulan Pro trimmer well on the way to running like it should. I had to order one of your rebuild kits and a splined carburetor adjustment tool (that I've needed for about a year now- lol) Thank You VERY MUCH Mark! Great videos!
@freshn2008 My guess is that you are working on a larger 2-cycle engine such as a snowblower engine. The larger 2-cycle engines will have a carburetor with a bowl. The bowl eliminates the need for the return line. On this type of carb there will be a fuel line feeding the carburetor and usually a single line to a primer.
I hope this helps,
-Mark
Thanks Mark. Just £10 for a new fuel filter, 2 fuel lines and a primer bulb to repair my 15 year old McCullock Trim Mac 210 strimmer that the supplier/maintainer told me was beyond repair. Good old Google saved me £90 again :)
Hello Marcel Horst. do you mind me asking you where you purchased those items above... since i need them myself.
Can you make a video on "HOW TO REPLACE A CARBURETOR" on a Shindaiwa B45 Bush Cutter please. Is there any technical procedure in carburetor R&R?
Simple Visual Explanation without getting to technical.
Excellent.
Hello, It appears I have a little pressure inside my tank when trimmer is running. Fuel spits out passed the hole(s) in the tank where fuel lines enter tank. I would assume the fuel tank would be under slight vacuum...no? Gas cap appears to allow for air to enter tank under suction; blocked vent under pressure when I apply with my mouth. Please advise Thanks
Just pour gas on weed eater....and STAND BACK. NOT !. Thanks for vid........
when you run the return line back into the tank..how much of the fuel line should go back in to the tank..on my craftman 358.350601 chainsaw it has two different fuel line sizes.could I use the same size for both or do they have to be one big one small..
@steveshlacker That is great to hear! I am glad we where able to help you same some money!
-Mark
Mark this is great to know, I am learning a lot on 2 stroke carburetor.
I have a 125b who do not start wel and stops, when suck gasoline with the pump it looks like it get a lot of air with it, I do not now if the ball of the pump needs to be full, somewhere in carburator it leaks or I have put fuel lines wrong. Maybe you do now. thanks.
@catman7771 Glad to hear that small engine repair is so easy for some. Thanks for watching!
You sir or madam I have a operator part number 308028001 trying to find a rebuild kit not the carburetor need help please
Great presentation... You give a very good flow of how the primer bulb works.
Great Post. I appreciate this very much. Professional presentation. I will be a new customer.

I have replaced no telling how many fuel lines on 2 cycle engines and almost ALWAYS forget which goes where! Thanks for sharing this!
what makes the primmer bulb not return with no fuel lines connected walbro wt-688 Not getting fuel
This was very helpful with such a simple device. I was trying to push fuel instead of pull.
THANKS!
Thank you so much for posting this video!
mine one brass was fatter than the other. Only thing, 2 between after removing the pipes and replacing new ones(i had to order as they crumpled while changing the leaking rubber plugs., i forgot which is which
The EXACT video I was looking for! When will I learn to draw a diagram before I rip everything all apart and then wait a week before I put it back together after ordering new parts!
Excellent video and well done! Thanks!!!
logically presented and fool proof.
I have a troy bolt string trimmer tb20cs. I put a new primer bulb on it, New fuel filter & line. I believe hoses are correct. I watched your video 5 or 6 times, it's the best. I connected the supply line to the carb, pumped the bulb and fuel runs out everywhere. Put it together and it runs, but only for 15 to 20 seconds and the supply line is dry? What's up? Thank you Chris Jones
my craftsman weed eater runs good but if l squeeze the gas it will die slowly.
I am getting fuel from the small hole in the carburetor, why is this?
Hi I'm from Hammond Louisiana i wanted to let you the primer bulbs I have been purchasing at a local repair shop 8 out of 10 have raised makings IN and OUT they are so small I almost missed them and don't know when they started stamping them just wanting to let u know thanks for videos
@nongja26 Thanks you and thanks for watching!
I had a problem after I rebuilt the carburetor on my leaf blower. The fuel pump would not pump. After the explanation I realized my mistake and switched the fuel lines which fixed the problem. The explanation was very good. This video is great!! Thanks!!
Vagyis a cím magyarul . fűkasza karburátor javítása......, (tekintsünk el a 2 ütemtől.)
Not sure why but, after fixing everything, fuel is leaking out of the fuel tank cap. Not around the outside but from the middle. Why? and how do I stop it?
thanks for the no nonsense video series. To the point, and very helpful
I just replace my fuel lines and primer bulb on a weadeater featherlite. It won't start on fuel but starts fine on ether. My primer bulb is not drawing any fuel through it? I don't see any fuel inside the bulb. Can you help
Thank you for your video. I did the same way as you show to replace the fuel lines... the bottom pin is goes to the filter in the tank and the top is going out from the prime bulb.... but some how I still get very slow return of the prime bulb and even not return at all... if I loose the screws a little bit near by... then the prime bulb return to normal position but the gas is started to leak... what I do wrong..???
By the way, I thought you should know I bought all my replacement parts from eReplacementParts.com BEFORE I ever knew you have instructional videos! LOL! Thanks sooooo much for the instruction. Greatly appreciated!
Thanks Mark. Now, with fuel lines correct, my Husqavarna leaf blower idles just fine, but dies when increasing the throttle. I will try to check for leaks into the carburetor or replace diaphragm.
Another way is to use your fingers.
One side should create suction and the other side should be blowing, the suction side is the intake side
+IIGrayfoxII thanks ! way easier than anything else !
@hertelfrank Thanks for watching. That's a really good repair suggestion. We'll see if we can throw it in the works.
I followed your instructions and it worked for me. I was sent my trimmer for repair but they wanted to charge too much money. Now, I fixed it by myself. I just had to order new. gas lines and prime bulb and cleaned out my carb. Simple but it helpful video.
Thank you very much.
In the second example, should fuel flow in a stream out the return; or with bubbles. Seams like not sucking enough fuel in my case when hooked to the carb? any ideas?
Some small bubbles may appear while priming. If there are a lot of bubbles I have to wonder if you don't have
an air leak or a defective flapper valve in the carb. The primer is supposed to fill the carb with gas. Once full the rest recycles back into the tank.
It would have helped me if you had said of the short or the long nipple on the prime bulb which is the pull and which is the push. Good job anyway.............Tom
Big help! Tried repair clinic site where I purchased my fuel tank but no luck but they did lead me to UA-cam but when I searched UA-cam I found this vid and it was just the trick! Thank you.
Thanks...this video helped me out! Very well done. I'm amazed that Walbro does not provide better info in regards to the intake pipes on their carbs. Oh well. Once again, thanks!!!!
Mark, that was great. R all primer bulbs the same? Since I replace many I always uses the outside connector on the primer bulb. That seems to work. Thanks again for a great video.
Very informative video, it will help me, i am sure. My trimmer is a 4 stroke but the carburetor and bulb looks the same so I will try to reroute my lines now.
My trimmer just starts and then dies until I pump the bulb again.
It repeats itself like that but never continues to run.
I must have mixed up the fuel lines when I replaced to a new carburator.
After replacing the cracked fuel line, I was sure that I had the correct. Chainsaw ran for a few seconds and died. So I replaced the fuel filter, gas cap and cleaned the spark arrester. same results. Saw your video, rerouted the fuel line and the chainsaw runs like a rapped ape!!! Thanks!
Just watched this last night to gather info before I disassemble my carb system. I noticed that the fuel lines have been on the wrong side for awhile. I had someone fix my trimmer in the past so either they messed up or the manufacture did. Thanks for the info.
great video. some how my lines got mixed up while replacing the primer bulb and fuel lines and the caborator kept flooding. now all as well.
@madman1124 Thanks!
-Mark
i have and older model 410r ryobi cultivator, the bulb assembly only has one connection for fuel, the original lines fell apart, i could not tell where the line were, i order a new fuel line and a new return line, i did not order the bulb line, but there are only two ports on the carburetor and two in the fuel tank, I think i know where the fuel line connects but not sure for the return or the bub line.. can someone enlighten me on this
+bellman1945 The following is a link for a UA-cam tutorial. ua-cam.com/video/8Rzrq3MEi_0/v-deo.html
I have an older chainsaw model that didn't come with a primer bulb installed new. Can one be added?
+Dave May There are some stand alone primers on the market. One big hurdle would be how to get the return line plumbed out of the carb and plumbed into the tank.
exactly what i was looking for thanks!
@kodibass Thanks for watching!
-Mark
Thank you for actually explaining that the fuel needs to be drawn through the carb rather than pushed into it. I now know why diaphragms get busted. The pressure of you forcing the gas against the check flap the wrong way years it.
I recently installed a new gas tank on my goped scooter it came with one Blue Hose one yellow hoes at first I had the Blue Hose plugged into the top valve and it would not start so I am assuming that generally the Blue Hose will always go on the bottom. Is this correct? I mean generally that is?
Very helpful, fixed the fuel line on my Homelite tiller
Just what I needed. Thanks...Question. When you turn both the Low and High screws in your weedeater al the way down..to start it again how many turns out do each take?
I did everything step by step and I did not move or adjusted any parts of the carburetor. The problem now is that when I try to start my Craftsman trimmer it starts on full power and when i press the run button it stops and dies out. any idea of what did i do wrong?
Undo the throttle cable and see if the throttle returns to the idle position. Im wondering if the cable is hooked up correctly.
I have a late 90s model craftsman chainsaw that I replace the fuel lines in. I'm pretty sure that the fuel line from the tank went to the primer, not the carb. Is that possible? I left the one line that connects the primer and the carb on, so I doubt I got it backwards. It seems to run just fine. Will it run both ways?
I went to the local home improvement center for answers; no one had a clue on how to hook up the hoses. I took a weedeater off the rack and shined my cell phone light in the inner workings and saw how the remote prime was hooked up. But this video showed me how to test the lines for correct placement. Many Thanks
i am pulling both fuel and air. connected properly and blew air through carb and lines. is air ok?
Thanks for video very helpful.
Thanks Mark. Great help.
Regardless of how I connect the fuel lines, no fuel flows through the carb. What now?
It sounds like the carburetor needs be gone through. The rubber seals and fuel pump tend to harden over time and become ineffective. There is a small "flap" on one of the seals that opens and closes when you prime the carb. If this gets hard fuel won't flow through.
Thank you very much for posting this very informative video. I am replacing the fuel lines on my Mantis tiller but I did not pay attention on how the old ones were run and I was doubting on doing it correctly. You showed on simple manner how to find which way is correct. I saw another video that was done with goo intention, but it was badly done. Thank you again.
