Starter removal 2006 BMW X3 m54

- This is an archive video that was shot a couple years ago. Many steps may be missing. However, in my opinion, the main idea is there in the video. You take full responsibility for anything that may go wrong while you work on your vehicle. This video is for information purposes only.

you should remove the DISA valve before pulling the intake boot, makes the whole process much easier!
Careful, it's fragile. Though you should rebuild the disa valve with the pin-delete kit to prevent engine explodey!
Just completed this repair on an 04 3.0 E83 M54. If you can get the starter from the bottom you are a God level mechanic
Agree. One thing I can think of is if you loosen the engine mounts and and jack the whole engine up a big bit. Then again. Not sure if it's possible
That nervousness of is the bolt gonna drop at 5:00, I felt that 🤣 Great video, def needed to include a few more steps, but overall very clear and I love how you put the bolts back so you remember. I thought I was the only one who did that! Bravo
This is unbelievable. Working on this car is ridiculous! I have to replace the crankshaft sensor. I’m hoping I don’t have to remove the fuel rail and have enough jiggle room to get to the sensor.
Plus I don’t own the tool to remove fuel lines. What a nightmare.
I appreciate the video. This will help a lot ! Thanks!
I was happy I sold the car. When it drives it's a King. But it's broken, it's a hassle
Good video . Got me thru my starter. Only part you left out was that you need to remove the throttle body to get to the last big bolt that holding the manifold down . Besides that everything was spot on
I probably missed a step or two. I also didn't show the removal or the starter itself. Hope whoever is doing it is skillful enough to figure it out.
Your e83 videos re some of the best I have found anywhere! Like I when it's a diy mechanic not like in a shope with a lift... that's not me. With these videos anything is possible
thank you. I did get rid of the car. But I continue this on my other vehcles
For anyone watching this, the BMW procedure for starter replacement on a E83 M54 is to remove it from underneath, so virtually none of the steps in this video are necessary. It’s not exactly easy to do from underneath, but it’s not that difficult either - and it saves an incredible amount of time and effort. I did the entire starter change in about an hour on my 2006 X3 3.0 this evening.
Wow. I've heard about that, but just don't have hands small enough
Not a bad video. Good work.
I recently did this on my gfs 2004 x3. What a pain in the ass.. original starter with 163k miles. This guys 06' is the same as the 04' as well. Newer than 06 is different.
FOR ANYONE DOING THIS IN THE FUTURE
-your Injectors and fuel rail can stay where they are; instead unplug the electrical connectors on the injectors and move the plastic harness to the side. Put your injector clips back on so you dont lose them
-t30 screws mentioned on top of the manifold can also stay where they are - no need to remove
-have lots of patience
-the 10mm nut under cylinder 1 @ 5:00 -once removing, i had a little coolant leak (just a heads up to check it when job is done)
-be prepared to repair/replace old brittle vacuum lines
-if you're having trouble finding or getting at the 16/17mm nut under between cylinder 4 and 5 to remove the manifold - you can remove the throttle body which is held by 4 bolts, doable without
-3/8 ratcheting wrench will help a ton for removing the starter bolts since the bolts are facing the firewall....
-a good flashlight
-a friend or bundgy cords to hold everything out of the way for removal/installation of the manifold
-have lots of patience
-for the manifold gasket, i re-used the older one.. rubbed a little ATF fluid on it to moisturize and bring back to life
-take your time, do it right the first time so you're not doing this again. Goodluck.
Wow. This is the best response I've ever gotten on YT. Thank you. Gotta say, I am not a mechanic. I just do stuff. If I was going to do it again, I would definitely use these notes.
Wow. I gotta replace mine after work tonight so imma use the video and these notes to try and get it done!
How did you get the bolt out at the bottom you talked about at the end
What minute and second mark?
4:14 On my 2005 E83 X3 w/3 liter M54B30 engine, they are T25!
Can I use the BMW X3 intake hose on a BMW e46 m54 🤔🤔
At 3:54 I noticed that your PA12H cable is broken from your distribution piece. I got the same right now, how did you fixed that cable?
I have been working on this for a couple days. Several items are damn near impossible. Take your X3 to the shop. You’ll thank me later.
Good thing I sold mine. I am done with it
@@mrOnlinePolice they are great when they work. EXCELLENT in even a true foot of snow. However, I have worked on many cars and can only recommend this job to the pros.
much of an hassle lol. I was so happy when it started and it's been broke down for a few weeks surprisingly the battery held it's charge. I also didn't put back that little wall. It was super hard getting it out peacefully lol
Yes it is a hassle. So wish this big vehicle had more room. So inconsiderate of those engineers
dumbass little wall, it does hold a power line and vaccum line in place though so maybe its useful there, also to keep water away from the vaccum booster
What was so important to have a song mix to your video? Any info about the starter’s bolts? Not really.
Is it distracting?
Thanks a lot for the video am dealing with the same problem 💯👑
I hope it works for you
Excelente vídeo, me ayudo muchísimo
Thank you for your comment. Hope your car doesn't break again.
Gracias, esta listo mi vehículo reparado 🥳🥳
Thank you
Good luck to you.
You can’t just do this from the bottom.. I’ve heard of E83 starters being done from the bottom.
I am not an expert by any means, but at the time of this job, I was not able to find any info whatsoever. Had to to roll up my sleeves and pioneer pretty much.
I had my last X3 starter done from the bottom but a starter and alternator mechanic so I know it can be done
If the X3 is RWD [only] -yes if its AWD it much better to do it from above.@@santalopiantubes
@@julybear8019 may be better in your opinion but also takes three times as long
Crazy as hell how difficult it is and how many things you need to unplug, unbolt.
Yeah. I did it without any prior info. Had to figure it out myself. Never did it take me 3 days to replace a starter on any one of the many cars I owned
Are the starter bolts aluminum and need to be replaced?
I am sorry, unfortunately I do not remember.
They need to be replaced, I’m doing this now and used this video to get me by . I’m hooking everything up now
If yours look good and you get them out with stripping then you can definitely reuse them just don't go crazy with over tightening.
They are aluminum. Good idea to dab some anti seize on the bolts.
Man i thought my 98 Lexus LS400 starter was difficult. Its alot of stuff to remove id just buy a starter from BMW and replace every gasket i have access to while im in there. phew definitely no parking lot starter replacement hahaha
😮😮I d rather go in from the bottom 😊 impossible without ramps...big ones
Thanks for the vid, but the music makes old ears hard to hear
Thank you. I will make sure next time it is not as loud
@@mrOnlinePolice Your engine is exactly like mine and I’m working on it now. 2005 X3 3.0 E83 M54 engine
HOW MUCH would you charge to do this job?....how many plugs and hoses removed?...and then.....put it back together...SWEET JESUS..!!
I am not a mechanic, and I would probably refuse to do it again.
@@mrOnlinePolice but how much a mechanic would charge>? 200 300 900?
@@kabusanchez5622 they will charge a lot more than that
it's a 3 hour job by the book. probably around $400 just labor and other inconveniences@@kabusanchez5622
Nice video but didn't even touch any of the starter bolts!!! We want to see how you unbolt those E12 as they are not easy to get to, and then how you pull the starter off the very tight dowel pin. Come on, the video suppose to show how to remove the starter, not the intake manifold. Please change the title to "How to remove the intake manifold" as this is misleading.
Sorry. I was recording under a pouring rain. Missed a few steps. But the whole point of this video is to lead to the removal of the starter, not just the manifold.
Wrong
Maybe
@@mrOnlinePolice 1 bad comment out of 27 comments/.? I THINK YOU STILL THE MADAFAKEN MAN..... YOUR VIDEO IS SO HELPFUL,..... WRONG?..... lol.....yeah..!....wtf? (this JOE ESPICITO fool doesnt make mistakes, never...because he never does anything...!!)
Whats wrong?
