Hi! I have this vehicle model, I mention that the car has a 2.0 diesel engine, automatic transmission and I have some questions: 1. When should the distribution be changed !? The distribution is on the chain, the engine code is N47? Km? 2. When is it advisable to replace the gearbox oil? Km? 3. When should I expect to change the particle filter? Km, approx. 4. When can the first problems with EGR occur? Estimated km.
+Alin Alupei Thanks for the feedback! We always recommend changing fluids at the factory recommended intervals if not slightly sooner to prevent any damage or undue wear. We'll pass these questions along to our production team and see if we can have the rest of your questions answered!
Good video. I owned two of these over the last 10 years and those are fairly manageable issues and normal maintenance parts. Nothing to worry about. The oil leaks are typical for BMW. Just replace the seals and you are fine for 80k miles or more. Change all oils regularly. Engine, transfer case, transmission, front and rear differential. Transfer case gets a stretched chain after many miles. Can also be replaced with a new chain in a DIY job but very time consuming and without lift not manageable.
Why are we using cheap plastic parts in expensive cars like this. Is it no wonder why they are so cheap to buy used because of the problems that you will experience later. Thank you for doing this.
Okay, good to know. I hadn't had one of those issues yet and hopefully I won't in the future. The biggest issues were the windshield washer motor stopped working a few years ago and recently the engine ground cable had disintegrated. Driving cross country would have been memorable in a bad way. With 54K on mine with a 6 speed manual I think I've got a lot of years left. 🤞🏾
windshield wipers only work in the mode to squirt window cleaner my 2004 3.0 manual x3 is still great after 40,000 miles i bought it at 173,000 miles now at 213,000 i replaced my coolant resevoir ($74) thermostat ($55) BMW WANTED $1400 I Did it myself panoramic roof has issues but i love my car
so all crappy parts that’s are expensive to fix, and could be alot of other things, so it’s hard to figure out. this video was very helpful. it’s not worth buying this vehicle. i was, but now i realize what they portrait the vehicles to be and what they actually sell you, is not the same. this was made to fall apart, and it’s made to be difficult for the average guy mechanically to fix.
I pretty much experienced every one of these issues and he didn't even get into the windshield washer reservoir leaks, or how the oil cap will leak. In the end, after fixing everything, the oil pan had a slight leak and the thought of dropping the 4x4 system just to fix it was enough to sell it. Enjoy BMW wrenchers, plenty of work waiting for you under this hood.
@@cosmo1kramer that’s pretty high priced for the mileage, if you can do the work yourself it’s not bad but if not consider that you’d be taking it to a shop, anytime I look at vehicles with high mileage I always look for the maintenance done on it, high mileage with little to no maintenance is just a cherry bomb waiting to happen
It would've been important to segregate the 2 versions of this car into 2 separate videos: 2004-2006 models are the first generation with M54 engine, and are easier & cheaper to work on. Different and less problematic thermostat. 2007-2010 models are the second generation with the N52 engine, with electric waterpump, and a few other inconveniences. (Google them) For an old BMW, this is probably one of their most reliable SUVs, and you hardly ever see them rust. They had excellent anti-corrosion treatment. There is no 2003 model year for this vehicle. Your video title should be corrected.
SAVAGE, yeah you know your stuff!!! just got a 2007 after ten years with a 2005, I took the leap after getting sick of the problems my 2005 had and no it was not the cars fault, previous owner to me did some damage to it, however, sunroof did leak bad on that, otherwise it was gold, I also messed up the cats, only damage I did. Ya know whats funny about the first gen? good luck even finding one thats not destroyed from lack of maintenance , my 2005 was one of the best on the East coast, I did everything for that sav, loved it.
My wife's car have gone through all these issues and more. Leaking valve cover, bursting coolant system plastic parts, clogged/leaking solenoids, pealing finish on interior plastics, leaking valve stem seals, failed valve breather system, leaking panoramic roof and the list goes on. If I had not been able to do these repairs my self this would have cost more than what the value of the car is. I would strongly recommend just staying clear of these X3's. They are really junk cars. Take this from a guy that has seen the bad quality of these cars first hand. I drive a 2009 BMW 318D and my wife a 2006 X3....Owning and servicing these cars for over 6 years now has told me one thing about BMW. They are really nice to drive, but if you want reliability from BMW you really just want to own them from brand new and sell them off after a few years. My previous car was a tiered 2001 Opel Vectra 2.0i and that thing fell apart, but was still a more reliable car with no problems except for rust that was it's downfall. But .... I would buy BMW again, why you ask.... Cos the handling and fun factor of BMW's is so good. So if you want BMW get ready for one of two things. Number one: Be ready for high bills from your mechanic. Number two: Be ready for allot of wrenching if you do it your self.

Too many plastic parts that should have been made of aluminium or stainless steel (valve cover, sensor housing, radiator inlet and outlet parts etc..), is that even a "Luxury" car? so much junk instead of quality and durable parts, those cars cost a lot of money brand new, I would expect at least a decent build quality - that is not an economy grade car, why skimp on so many parts? beyond my understanding!
It's always about the money. Plastic parts cost less so they can PROFIT more. Problem is, they've shot themselves in the foot and devalued the brand. It can take decades to build your reputation but minutes to lose it. I've owned 5 BMWs and loved them all, but will probably never buy another one because of their reliability reputation now.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH yes, so well said! and they want people to buy their NEW shit, if these x3's were made better they'd all go a million miles, I mean these go to 300k easy if you care about them and get them fixed but some of the bmw shit just wears you out after time.
I don't think it has anything to do with the German engineering, but with the cheap skating from BMW - who are selling you an expensive car and still pre-plan so many parts to break within a few years and then charge you 800 euros for each one of them! not because of bad maintenance, but because the parts are poorly made and from cheap materials that are prone to break

So basically they built them cheaply, and not to last. 😢
Well looks like i aint buying no bmw
You don't say what motor you are discussing.
German engineering...
Horrible horrible car , I haven’t suffered so much since I bought my x3 , bmw sucks
Plastic BMW
Or you can just buy a Japanese suv and not worry about any of this BS (former 5x BMW owner).
