- 19th November 1966: In the mid-sixties Tottenham Hotspur epitomized the term 'Southern softies' for their inability to win matches in the north of England. In 1966/67 Spurs had begun losing home games as well so this as now become a very difficult trip to Hillsborough where thy meet Sheffield Wednesday. For Wednesday their problem has been scoring goals so they went out and spent £70,000 on John Ritchie from Stoke City who they would later sell back to following relegation in 1969. As a point of refence Spurs signed Terry Venables in the summer 1966 from Chelsea for £80,000. Venables was the only man to be capped by England at the time from Schoolboy to Full International.

Surprised at the quality and speed of the game.
I was born in 1970 so it's great seeing these 60s games.
Great to see Mackay, Greaves, Mullery, Gilzean, Robertson, England and Jennings - all top class players. Spurs in 1966 were still an excellent team, but the awful muddy and rain sodden pitches at White Hart Lane were a hindrance to them in demonstrating what a excellent side they were with all these top players.
Fitness and tactics (understandably) behind today's game.Ball control, despite the conditions, remarkably good.....IMO
Just 4 months after England's Memorable World Cup Win. Greaves looks excellent in this game and it must have Still hurt him not being in that final lineup
Absolutely...he was a world class striker right up to 1970 he should have played for England. He regretted not going to Brian Clough's Derby
We want more
I'd probably be around 2 months old at the time 😝
