Nice build and great result. 👍 I built exactly the same model a few years ago, also with Eduard’s PE. It’s a very good kit for 1/72 scale. I had the same problems with the decals; did a lot of touch ups with the paint brush. But in the end it was worth it; got 2 silver medals for it, at shows in Germany and in Portugal.
Nice job.....always hard to get a good result in 1/72 scale but you did it justice. Excellent techniques and great commentary (not too long winded....just right!)
Something nobody seems to get right about the Mustang wing is that, according to the old Ducisimus ”Camouflage and Markings" monograph for the RAF Mustang, the front 2/3 of the upper wing had all the fixed panel lines taped, puttied, and sanded smooth,. then sprayed with clear lawyer with a small amount of aluminum paste mixed in. So when these planes were in service, you'd never see those panel lines. The Germans did essentially the same thing to their fighters, and perhaps other planes, but all over. So, you should fill in those engraved lines as well....
There are some things that be corrected to make a accurate P-51B most involves sanding I've done it before the wing kink right side of engine has two items to be removed tabs on tail planes remove left top right bottom source Detail & Scale P-51 part one Bruce
I think it would be easier to glue together both fuselage halves (I mean left and right) and then proceed as with any normal kit, rather than the butt join seen at 3:52 as proposed by Academy. Nice build anyway.
What kind of paint are you using for your black coat? It lays down like alligator hide causing you to have to polish it out. May I suggest either Gunze GX-2 Gloss Black or 1Shot gloss black lettering enamel. The 1Shot costs about $23.00 for half pint and it lays down so well that most brush strokes disappear when it's dry. This the same paint sign painters use and it holds up well even to harsh outdoor conditions. You'll have to thin it before you can airbrush it but you'll think it's still wet even when it is bone dry. You will have to let it fully cure a couple of days before you lay down the Alclad. Basically it is what Gloss Black wants to be when it grows up.
I used Tamiya. Yea I know its rough so Im open to some other types/brands. Ill take a look at the ones you mentioned...would be nice to cut out the polishing!
I'd recently built the Academys P-51 B Mustang, sadly some things look odd, i.e. the landing gear, air intake in the nose is to wide, and the prop ist wrong too. I'm waiting for Arma Hobbys new B/C Mustang kit, as i know their kits, this will probably be the best Mustang kit ever.
Hi nice job on the build did the photo etch give you any trouble ? did. you remove the interment panel details ? or is interment. panel complete thanks for the post also thanks for your input. Have a nice day Bruce
The photo etch was fairly straightforward, no big issues other than the fact that it's just tiny. I did sand off the raised detail on the instrument panel before I added the photo etch.
I'm gonna get a P-51C after I get done with my P-51D I will do the famous Tuskegee airmen training P-51C 4 2A I have the same P-51D you built from TAMIYA and I'm going to do John C Meyer's mustang
The canopy on that kit is misformed and the leading edge of the wing is not 100% right either. That said, it's not a horrible kit. When is Tamiya going to scale down their excellent 1/46 P-51b?
Nice build and great result. 👍

Oh my God...the "that's what she said!" joke caused me to shoot Pepsi out of my nose.....that was awesome 👍
Great build!
Haha glad I can entertain. Thanks!
Great build. 1/72 and natural metal, not an easy task, but a challenging combination. Well done!
Thank you very much!
Nice little kit. I built one just a couple weeks ago. A very enjoyable build.
Precision Models also sells a reboxed version of this kit.
👍👍👍
Excellent video & job building your P-51C Red Tail Mustang too!
Thank you very much!
Great job! And as Robert said, great commentary.
Thanks!
Fantastic!!! Especially in that scale, getting that amount of detail is never ever. Painting/weathering look amazing.
Thank you very much!

Beautiful work!
👍👍👍
I have not seen any P-51D-1model kit around . This are the kits that don't have any additional dorsal fins .
Academy built two versions of version P-51C ; the C-1 and C-2 with additional dorsal fins .
Lovely model!
Thanks!

@@ScaleModelAssassin it's the same mold as this One
The P-51 never had wood flooring..........................................................
hmmm whats your source?
I think most Academy kit decals are abismal.
Confirmed
Yes, the older one. Decals of Academys Il-2 Shturmovik kit are made by Cartograf, so they're very good quality.
la pintura mal aplicada, muy granulada, de hecho tuvo que pulirla, el brillo del las laminas de aluminio nunca se vio
