Similarly to the T-33A trainers I worked on in the USAF, late 1970s. They had wood floors too, but painted the same gloss ADC gray as the rest of the cockpit.
Good build. And thanks for being one of the very few YT modelers to pronounce "Tamiya" correctly! I did this kit some years back. I'm thinking to revisit it. I just finished Airfix's "Maverick's Mustang" in 1/72, but I did it in Israeli colors/markings.
Simply wonderful! Every kit you made is a real masterpiece. And.... USAF anthem between hillbilly music.... Wow! Thanks for this moment!!!! Sheers from France. Stéphane
Just got through watching your video Pretty-boy ! Wanted to let ya know....if you could even find the kit anymore......this is a 1962 - 1966 Monogram F51- D Mustang in 1/32 Scale This kit has operating Landing Gear, and Bombs that drop. Prop spins of course, cockpit is pretty detailed. This kit was reproduced in a pedestal and is battery powered so the Prop is motorized as well as the Landing Gear, the Bombs drop as well. Being Clear the Fuel Tanks are molded in Red styrene and some of the Interior parts are molded in a Light Green color to represent the color used in WW II (ZINC CHROMATE GREEN)
If i was to brush-paint this model, what challenges would i face? Im working my way to an airbrush but the p/f51d is my favourite plane and i love this paint scheme
If you want to know about hairbrushing I would recommend Quick Kits- he hasn't posted in a while but I'd consider him the expert on the subject. As for my advice? Don't try. Metal colors are almost impossible to hand brush well. You would be far better off buying a can of Tamiya Silver spraypaint. It doesn't need a black primer coat, it's one of the best silver's you can get anywhere, and best of all the paint is STRONG, so there would be no problem masking on top of it . Hope that helps
TheWaggishAmerican sorry, forgot to mention but i have watched quick kits and im currently doing the airfix p51d and im using tamiya flat aluminium and it looks great, i was more refrencing as if you had any problems with say paint sticking , if build fits nicely or if some bits in your opinion absolutely required an airbrush. Also, i am not trying to get a gloss metal but more a nice even metal with some flake. Bit confusing but i hope that makes sense 😂
I believe on this one I just masked off the area and thinned a gloss black down to basically nothing then painted over the silver. You SHOULD use something else, but I was too cheap to go buy a different metal color lol
Nice, really, realy NICE! As noted below, the Mustang had a plywood cockpit floor, and not a metal one. Testors Modelmaster has the interior colors in their range for most of the WWII American, British, and German aircraft.
I’ll keep the model master in mind, but I’ve got to continue the search for a good acrylic or laquer paint for it. I really don’t want to put enamel through my airbrush
Yes. Anytime you are doing a metal coat you should use a gloss black primer- UNLESS you are planning on using the Tamiya Silver Rattlecan, which you can get away with without as long as you didn't use and filler. I like to use primer anyway, to make sure I didn't miss anything which needs filler.
Nice attention to details check out Glen Miller Army Air Corp it has great vidieos of B-17. B-24 P-47 P-51 footage of crews riding out to Their planes worth a look enjoy Bruce
how do you get the decal to work my tamiya spitfire, which came out after this mustang, came in with an unusable decal due to the age of the decal. also cool build keep up the good work :D
What specifically is wrong with the decals? If they are yellow, put them in a zip-lock bag, and stick them in your window in direct sunlight for a couple of weeks. This usually will bleach them. If they are dissolving when you try to apply, what you can do is cut VERY close to the decal, and spray it with some decal bonding spray. People use it to seal the printer ink when making custom decals, and it can basically glue a decal together. Testors do a rattlecan for this purpose called "Testors Decal Bonder Spray". Only thing about that is once it's on, the decal is fairly thick, and won't really respond to decal solvents. If both those things fail, it is possible to fix cracking by doing the method above but with a clear spray paint, but this makes very thick decals that don't respond at all too solvents and can easily be destroyed. If all of that fails, you are pretty much out of luck, and should probably hit up eBay to find a replacement set. Honestly, with Tamiya decals, you might just want to skip to this point. The things are beautiful on the sheet, but a beast to work with even when they aren't ancient. Hope that helped.
most of them are all parodies of old songs, first one is wreck of the old 97, dont know the second, then the third is wabash cannon ball. they're *loosely based* on them
good model, but little note! Mustangs had wooden ckockpit floor, not metal as your has.
Šimon Malík crap! Thats what I get for using a museum example as a reference. I’ll keep it in mind for the 1/48 one
Wow never new that about the floor for the mustang thanks..
Mustangs had wooden floors, true. But many were painted over with interior green out of expediency and ease of maintainence.
yes the mustags had wooden floors, but they usually had rubber overtop

Such a pretty bird. I'm currently looking into getting a model to start building with my nephiew - and I think I just found what I was looking for 😊

My LHS has had one on the shelf for years. Think theyre asking too much for it.
Just outta curiosity...what do they want for it ?
@@kwman69r cant remember off top of head, sorry. Ill be back home (im hundreds of miles away atm) in a few weeks and will respond again then.
I want to say in the 65 to 85 range
Nice job! 👏👍
Excellent build. Ive built over 110 mustangs in 1/72 and tamiya and the new airfix have the best F-51s.
That is a nice kit and excelent work....
Thank you sir!
Wonderful.
Hey, I’ve built that kit, it’s a good kit, and you’ve done a really good work with it.
Thanks! How’d yours turn out?
TheWaggishAmerican pretty good, except for the mouth, because I did the was that too fast one. Thanks for asking!!
Yeah, those mouth decals are always tricky- especially Tamiya decals, which are not exactly known for their ability to conform.

Hello! I like your build! Did you use some stainless color of paint arround exhaust pipes?

Looks great
What is that music? Can you give me artist or somethis?
Hey nice build! Looks great. I have just picked up the 1/48 version. Do you think it would be wise to use a primer before applying the main coat?
Yes. Anytime you are doing a metal coat you should use a gloss black primer- UNLESS you are planning on using the Tamiya Silver Rattlecan, which you can get away with without as long as you didn't use and filler. I like to use primer anyway, to make sure I didn't miss anything which needs filler.

What color did you use to color the panels around the exhaust?
Heavily thinned black over silver already sprayed. Should be magnesium
Thank you I will try that!
Nice jacket
