As for masking off the Canopy, may I suggest that you look for Canopy Masks by Eduard and other companies.
They are a time saver and made to fit that area you don't want to be painted.
Yeah, this was an experiment that didn't quite pan out. One which I will be avoiding in the future.

Very nice build. I've built the same kit but the other yellow tail version. I brush paint my kits, so you can imagine, the metal finish and the yellow can really test your patience. Academy plastic is very good, the decals are another story. I remember building the Typhoon, and when it came to the decals I kept looking at the kit and the trash can more than once. Great build. Hi Ernesto! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah, Academy decals can be hit or miss. Fortunately for this mustang, they weren't too bad.

Lol, In general I haven't had too much of an issue with Academy decals, maybe I've gotten lucky.

I love 1/72 scale planes. I think they are a modeler's dream. Small, quick and fun. Smaller bases and dioramas. Just more enjoyable all around
Its funny, I used to be a 48th scale purist, but when I realized how much less space 72nd scale takes up in the display case then I was sold!
Hiya man great build, going to make this kit next week I've made loads of 51Ds but never had a 51C or an Academy before so thanks for the tip for the tail fitting, you couldn't have uploaded this at a more perfect time nice one.

That's a very rare P-51C-2 notice the additional dorsal fin structure at the rudder base. I first noticed that in a photo, when the ("yellow checker tail") 325th fighter group began to received their P-51s'
Correct. There weren’t very many B/C mustangs with the fin fillet.

A fine kit but the one weakness to my eyes is the wing, which seems too wide/broad in chord - that is, wing leading edge to trailing edge. A few minutes with a sanding stick can improve the look of the wing though. 👍

Thanks Matt, I ran out of my Aqua Gloss and MRS is out of stock right now.
When you do NMF paint schemes, how do you prevent the tape from pulling off your metallic paint around the areas you masked off for subsequent painting such as the anti-glare panel on front or the vertical stabilizer?
I think the biggest factor is prepping the surface prior to laying down the metallic paint. Ensuring you have a good primer base that is clean from oils and dust and fully cured. But, it really just comes down to experimenting with combinations of metallic paint and primers. I used Alclad metallic paints on this one which are lacquer paints and can be quite robust and I've used Vallejo metallics paints as well with good results. Also, allow a good amount of time for the metallic paint to cure before doing any masking, I generally wait 24 hours. Hope this helps.
I've built this kit too, in the end it looks like an early Mustang should, but i found two important things are wrong at this Academy kit. The propeller is too small in diameter, and the landing gear looks somewhat wrong at the finished model, maybe the legs a bit too long. I couldn't figure out what exactly is wrong with the landing gear, but it looks odd.
Interesting, I didn't notice that, but I'll have another look.
@@HammerheadModelMaking compare with front view photos and drawings of the B/C Mustang. I'm a Mustang buff since 40 years, built a whole bunch of that plane in all scales up to flying RC models. 😉
Excellent build. The only constructive criticism that I’d dare to express: the exhaust stains on the fuselage sides look too grainy, IMHO.
Thank you for the feedback, I really do appreciate it. I dont think my airbrush was thinned properly, I think that is what gave the grainy result. I'll work on fixing that for future builds. Thanks for watching!!

Thank you, for the PE I am using a Thick CA glue, it gives me a little bit of working time before it sets.

yes, you can, its not the best to use, but it will work.
