I was using a 3080ti until maybe October of last year, I had to sell it to pay for some life things. I actually sold all my GPUs by then. About a month ago I got a MSI Ventus RTX 2060 used for $400 CAD. I pair it with a 144hz acer loser suck face 1080p monitor and for some reason I actually get a lot more joy out of PC gaming now. I feel like having the highest end GPU kinda takes the fun out of it and I get a lot of joy configuring the 2060 and seeing how far it will go with different games. I do miss 1440p, you can def see pixels with 1080p but i'm totally happy with the 2060 and I don't think I care to look for an upgrade for the foreseeable future :)... a 1650 might be a litttttle too far in the other direction though... DON'T TOUCH!

Hey TJ! Good to see you popping in. Just wanted to say, I don't think it's the fact you had the highest end GPU that was the not giving you joy in PC gaming. Though, there is a certain element to that. When you've got the bestest of the bestierest gear, you're always looking out for the newer more bestier gear that's coming out. That kinda sucks the joy out of things, because you're always thinking in the back of your mind that whatever you got is about to be obsolete. I used to run that race, too, and never had much fun. It was always about bragging and stuff. Now, as I got older, I just took a look at what it is I like to play. I check the specs, look at recommended spc, and then get something appropriate. I'm not looking to the next thing, like you, I'm just enjoying the games I like, and when something comes along that makes my card not run well, then I look at upgrading.
      Have a good one, man.

I'm still keeping my ASUS strix 5700 XT. I actually find it more satisfying to see how far I can push the card, than to buy something top of the line.
I took the money that I originally was going to buy a RX 6800 XT with before the shortages, and I learned custom water cooling, and I'm right now in the process of renovating my loop again, instead of upgrading my video card because I just find more satisfaction and playing with that then I am grabbing top of the line hardware. Although I did splurge and jumped on a R9 5900X from an R7 2700X because it was 379 bucks and I'm not going to pass that up. Maybe the next generation of video cards will be the time I upgrade.

Really good video as usual. Not sure if your thoughts were before or after you actually switched back. In August I sold my high end gaming and went back to a 3770 and GTX 960. Although I had retained my good 27" 1080P 144hz monitor and peripherals. The games I played most at the times was PUBG, and I got the game to perform ok turning down settings, or so I had thought but something was never quite right and I ended up switching over to Fortnite for a while. In Fortnite I could not actually tell the difference. 2.5 Months later a Friend bought and returned my system to me (I can't even explain how awesome this guy is). Anyway moving back to a 3070 and 5600X was shocking, there were things I didn't even realize I had missed. The Experience in PUBG was not comparable, it was like it was a different game, I went from doing badly, and not liking the game to it just feeling right again and really enjoying it. Again couldn't really tell the difference in Fortnite, but I stopped playing it not long after getting the good machine back. The PUBG thing really made think about game performance and perception, PUBG appeared to be working at an ok frame rate (60ish) and I didn't feel any hitches or big drops in frame rates (1% lows were fine) but the overall experience was sluggish somehow even though it looked to be working correctly. I wonder how many people get games "working" on lower end hardware and don't have a great experience and maybe blame the game when it is actually that unquantifiable performance hit that seems to be in your head. Again I wasn't sure it was actually an issue until I went to back to the good PC, and the clouds suddenly parted and sun shone directly on me again.

Man, I'm digging your setup choices. I do have some recommendations for you though:
    - The Sennheiser HD6xx from Drop is a really good option for you that will fix the issues you've been having with the DT770. Don't chuck the DT770 though, because closed back is useful for outdoor usage. Open-backed headphones are going to be far better for sound stage and imaging, which should make gameplay experiences much better. The breathability is also dramatically better, and the pads on those headphones are amazing for comfort.
    - I think your keyboard could use an upgrade, why not check out and do some videos on some budget hotswap keyboards and cheap switches? The GAS67 is only 85 CAD right now, and it should be a pretty interesting board to put together, and you can pair it with some Gateron Oil King switches which don't need any lubing whatsoever! You already have a nice keycap set to use on it too. There's also the option of going for the QK65, when it goes on groupbuy again, though you can always try ask Qwertykeys to send you one for review.
    - Maybe consider producing a full-sized deskmat so your keyboard can also sit on top of the mat? It gives you more space to work with and your keyboard will actually sound better due to some cushioning on the bottoming out.

This is so funny, I had been thinking of upgrading my monitor for some time and I had been trying to deside between the g3 and the LG and I heard about the terrible screen tearing on the g3 so I think I made the right choice going for the LG (and it was much cheaper lol)

I know it's not exactly the same as a pre-built desktop, but last month I switched over exclusively to a GL66 Pulse laptop with the 3070 Mobile version and I've gotta say that laptop setups have come a long way. I've been travelling too much to appreciate and use a desktop setup so I sold off my custom built with a 2070 + R9 3900x. I was using a Silverstone SG13 for the case to make it compact as possible, but nothing is more compact than a laptop. So far I love it, but I also sometimes miss having a paperweight that doubles as a high-end gaming PC.

I still game on a pretty modest setup, just a 1660-Ti paired with an older i7-7700K. Prior to that it had an RX 470 I think? I keep saying "yep, need to upgrade" but honestly I'm not hardcore enough to care. It does 1080p just fine and I rarely notice any lag. One day I'll get something incrementally better. I usually just get whatever previous generation GPU/CPU I can find on eBay or a friend is selling after they upgrade.

That's a nice looking keyboard. The smaller footprint compared to my NZXT Function full size(I know, it's overpriced, but I love it all the same) would be great, sadly, for my classwork, coding, some games like Nethack, I use the tenkey too much to give it up and my hands are too big to bother trying to hunt down a mechanical keyboard that crams it all in to a footprint like that.

    • @annieworroll4373
      @annieworroll4373 2 роки тому

And I think the cheap one is the same Razr keyboard that the Function replaced. It's not bad for something you can get at walmart. No match for mechanical, but it wasn't bad. I was especially impressed with the resistance to liquid damage.

    gtx 1650 OC from gigabyte
    500w psu | 1x adata 250GB SSD | 1x HDD 1TB 7200 RPM
i then changed the case to one with 4 fans, changed the stock cooler to an aftermarket, temps went from 87 max to 70-ish

The pixel response time of that monitor is terrible. That's what's causing the blur. Not every high refresh gaming monitor is created equally. I bought an HP Omen 1440p 160hz monitor that has the same issue at 160hz. I just crank it back to 144 to fix it And make sure that the response time is not set to fast. What it is set too fast, a lot of white artifacting happens around the lines of stuff that's moving on the screen. Lol

I have a GTX1650 the GDDR6 version and it is awful recently I've found it has a hard cap at 75w even though mine needs a 6pin power connector. So in games I am always hitting the power limit and then it drops the clock speed to try and keep within the power limits so games have been getting very stuttery. I still feel like its got more to give but it just cant. I wish I could afford to upgrade but I just cant right now so just gotta live with it.
