Dawd, Thanks for the video. I always enjoy your content. However, ... I think calling it a scam computer does it a disservice. It looks, to me, to be a responsibly upcycled PC. Contrary to your sarcasm, used PC upcycling is still a relevant thing. There really is no need for a student to struggle with the horribly cheep Chromebooks that schools loan out. Not when a used PC can and will do the job better at a very reasonable price. E waste aside, it is the perfect PC for a fourteen - sixteen year old. It will do the task, play some game and look kool enough for them to feel good owning it. love the review. Remember kids, be humble, be respectful, and own your dignity like you can afford to share it.
You can get a new system for near that cost, minus a graphics card. The cost of the upcycled PC is what is a little ridiculous. The processor was released 9 years ago. I have some similar HP systems (no RGB, and no GT 1030, or graphics card) and 4th gen i5 that I'd let go for $120. I don't have that sweet ewaste to go with it though.
@@ntgm20 I have upcycled four i5 3470 computers in the last year. Each with 16Gb ram and a GTX 750ti or GTX 950. and a 1600x900 IPS monitor. However, when the price and reasonable expectations are given consideration, one realizes that they can get a good deal of performance for little money.
@@kirkbrown1267 I think though you missed my point on cost of a new system. I'm talking about the $550 CAD that Dawid paid. At 1080p on medium/high settings, you can play anything you want on it. With an SSD and storage drive, these systems are still very capable budget build gaming computers. You can get the entire setup for under $400. Definitely worth it.
Did a HP Envy 2015 sleeper build. added a 3060 ventus and swapped mobo's from the i7-4790 cpu to a bazooka matx mobo and 10th gen 10400f cpu for 1080p CAD drafting, work and gaming.
The way that's performing, that's got to be the ddr4 version of the 1030... I played through GTA V with an i5 2400 and a gt1030 gddr5 version (and yes it was an optiplex... Sff lol), and I got 60fps at 1080p normal, and it got even better when I upgraded the CPU to a xeon e3 1230.
My guess is that the Optiplex originally had a 2nd gen Intel CPU in it and the seller upgraded it to a 3rd gen CPU. All of the Optiplexes I’ve owned have USB 3.0 with the 3rd gen CPUs and USB 2.0 and VGA with 2nd gen CPUs. That’s my guess as an ancient Dell Optiplex aficionado.
"That's kind of what this headset is like, it's like a gas station pie fart gaming headset" I think Gas station pie fart is now my favorite terminology.
What is the point of those lights inside the case? looks like some 80ies fashion thing like colors on commodore 64 logo on which i have played 35 years ago. And lights on keyboards? Are they helping in playing games in low light rooms?
NGL that's probably one of the least sinful office grade cases to do a sleeper build in. Looks like it comes stock with some form of ventilation, is that front panel completely punch-through with that cheese grater design? (That and the OEM form factor component mounts, ofc.)
So in the HotRod optiplex's defense I'm pretty sure a standard USB 2.0 connection is slower than a standard sata connection, so that could effect the gaming performance some, maybe?
You know, I think we have to give the builder points here for their colour-coordinated e-waste. The headset is black with orange trim to match the case repaint and the keyboard even has an orange badge on it too. That's attention to detail, right there. Wondering now if you could fit a little LED screen where the infinity mirror is and have an AIDA64 secondary sysinfo display there. Probably not with that GPU, though!
I can feel that mouse and keyboard. The design is extremely reminiscent of my first kb+m which was an ajazz dark knight combo. The material of the keyboard is bang on the money same as my old one.
im shocked 3ed gen is running on that dell. it seems to be dell optiplex 390 since its missing usb 3.0 so normally only 2ed gen support. i wonder if its running a custom bios

Please do the sleeper PC, although you may have to mod the case, as the I/O shield may be part of the chassis...
that particular Optiplex 990 have a removable I/O shield, back when Dell had a bit of decency remaining
@@amnottabs May be, it's been 10 years since I stopped working for Dell's TS :D
I love to listen to Dawid’s analogies, comparing headsets to crappy gas station corn dogs. He reminds me of another bearded man who spoke in parables from a long time ago.
George Lucas, of course.
Ooh, good body-swerve at the end there!
I would be interested to see how well you could upgrade this system. One of the reasons I started building my own systems was that Gateway, Hewlett Packard, and Dell all starting doing non-upgradable stuff...yea, that was a really long time ago.(and many builds)
here have some yummy Guzzle Juice dude it's ggrreeaattt........🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Honestly, this system is screaming for a 1050Ti/1650/RX570 upgrade and it'll then be a very competent little daily driver/e-sports machine. The 1030 is very much limiting what it can do.
@@JinghisKhan I'd go even higher if a better CPU is also in the upgrade. Throw an i7 in there and give it a 1060, 1660 or RX 580 and that thing is still capable for a lot of games.
If that i5 is what stays, yeah 1050 Ti level would be fine. I have a i5-3570K here paired with a 1060 and that das alright, so I guess I have some experience on that level of performance.
The RGBs on the headset definitely baffled me the most. That and the two sticks of RAM.
What a beast
“Especially considering that it te from 1823.”
This would have helped me out greatly when I was a toddler in 1765, kids these days 😒
Proof positive that while you can't polish a turd, you can certainly roll it in glitter.
I like how you spent longer setting up the gas station fart joke than talking about the headset itself.
I'm always amused when watching your reviews of prebuilts, you always have me Rollin! I love the triasic connector!
I really think those Optiplex PCs are amazing value.
they really are, i got one now with 16gb ram, i5 4570, gt 1030 ddr5 and its a great 1080p gaming machine for the kids.
@@bryanprice2800 in gta v how many fps sir? I have i5 2400 with gt1030ddr5 with 30 to 40 fps in 1080p
@@nashcomp iirc it was around 50-60 high settings at 1080p.
don't need to replace the mb. Upgrade the power supply and video card (may need to remove the drive cage like I did). reduce e-waste! Maybe even get an i7-3770
this PC was aesthetically designed specifically for LTT, but Dawid snatched it up first - Linus can't touch it now
don't challenge Linus you know he will find a way to surprise you if you do that!
Dawid is a beast. This is the only tech tube channel I still watch. I got tired of the others making the same dull "I know you guys can't get a GPU buuut my channel needs a video anyway".
Gotta give credit where it's due--whoever sold this put some genuine effort into its modification.
Definitely! If you're going to make an OptiPlex scam, you may as well do it with some style.
@@DawidDoesTechStuff They missed a trick though, as there looks to be room for a USB 3 expansion card on that motherboard which would make a significant upgrade at minimal cost.
i dont know why someone would put so much effort into building/modifying a pc that can barely handle modern games
@@DawidDoesTechStuff Optiplex scam?
They can be turned into decent gaming pc that can run most games.
@@jacobeii They can easily run modern games.
Dawid videos have consistently been suggested to me by the YT algorithm over the last couple of years, but this is the first one I've ever clicked on. Needless to say, his voice is not what I expected.
As a fellow optiplex owner, I would love to see a full sleeper build in this case. Great video
11:05 I started seeing stars and almost passed out from oxygen deprivation laughing so hard.
Yes please would love to see this system upgraded. Can only imagine someone being fooled by the exterior.
Ngl I want that pimped out optiplex
Dawid do we need to do an intervention to get you over your Optiplex addiction. Although that case would be great for a stealth build
I don't know about you but I don't see the sticker as being red but orange. Am I crazy?
Is dawid color blind or am I color blind?
My exact thoughts lol
100% have to do a crazy high end optiplex build, if there was ever an optiplex case to do it in, that's the one!
The 1030 is hit or miss, as they have the DDR4 version floating around. Great video David , that certainly is a sexy optiplex
Based on those benchmarks , I would definitely check if it's the ddr4 version.
Iv used the gddr5 and it's a lot faster
it is a gt1030 ddr4 variant. it would be interesting to see an overclocking video (I haven't seen any on UA-cam) and/ or a comparison with gt730 (to see how much upgrade you're getting) ;)
This “gaming PC” is really good! RGB = more FPS!
I wonder how it would perform without the RGB then. 😅
@@DawidDoesTechStuff I wonder too haha
It’s a 3010/7010/9010 model. The x020 models (4th gen) were when they went (more) proprietary. Still uses proprietary front panel connections. Not the easiest thing to swap a normal board into that and use the front panel.
Also, the last dell to support XP. Throw a 900 series card in it and you’ve got a retro XP machine that also runs Win10 just fine.
Finally.
The Dell Optisex.
6:21 with that song you need to put a "Do not Disturb" sign 😂😅😂
A STANDARD INTERIOR IN A PREBUILT?!?!? Pre built companies take 1 step forward 2 steps back. Just upgraded my grandparents pc and their old prebuilt was standard albeit upside down. So I can still use it in the future COUGH COUGH Dell
I recently went to my grandfather's house. He wanted my help installing a GPU and SSD. I was pleasantly surprised that not only was his old offic PC running a 4th gen i7, but was also entirely normal components inside. Gramps is now probably the oldest Valorant player at 86.
@@DigitalJedi Thats actually amazing, my grandad plays solitare and majong, but his new i3 10100f, 8gb ram, and blazing fast SSD, he could do a lot more if he wanted. His old PC took about 10 minutes to go from off to home page on firefox, now it does it faster than my PC and my PC is no slouch ahaha.
Roughly $250 worth of hardware for $426. Adding in the kb and mouse plus the rgb customizing its not too terrible as long as you understand you losing out on some performance because of them. A couple years ago I cobbled together a super budget gaming pc similar to this one. Ebay used office pc i5-3470/16gb ram $125, hp oem rx 460 $60, ssd $50.
Its 100% gt 1030 Ddr4 i have a friend with that graphics and it suks more than 1030 GDDR5
About half the performance.
@@EvilTurkeySlices yes i know
if you do build this pc up, just remember they have a tendancy to use proprietary front panel connectors.. pin out guides and pin extension cables will be your best friend.. i ended up cutting and soldering my case connectors when i changed my case, and in hindsight i would have preferred using the pin out extension cables instead.. just a heads up
Dawd,
Thanks for the video.
Remember kids, be humble, be respectful,
and own your dignity like you can afford to share it.
None of those builds came to near the cost of building a new PC. @ $150 Flipped for a reasonable $ 250. What is ridiculous is what uninformed sellers are getting from uninformed consumers. However, when the price and reasonable expectations are given consideration, one realizes that they can get a good deal of performance for little money.
@@kirkbrown1267 I think though you missed my point on cost of a new system. I'm talking about the $550 CAD that Dawid paid. I did get a 10th gen i3 system for about $330 this year, which would almost outperform the one in David's video even with its UHD 630. You should check out my two quick videos on my $30 PC.
@@ntgm20 Your point was not missed. I will check out your video. Have a good day.
As much as I love this video and all of your work on this channel, and I DO love it... I can't help but feel like there were several points throughout this video that were screaming in agony to please insert a sneaky Quagmire somewhere in frame.
Be that as it may, still another banger.
Bravo, Dawid
Oh man, I've never laughed so much in my life, gas station sausage roll fart! Epic! Great review though, as always 👍
Triassic period Graphics port ouch. The stuck on RGB covering the optical drive bays, looks like an early LCD tV screen.
Good job Dawid i always love finishing the week watching one of your videos and it's like every video you upload the quality and content gets better and better keep it up!!!
You've found your real calling, audio equipment reviews. I can't wait!
Dawid you are precious. Howling at the gas station rant. Thank you for keeping tech fun!
Hey Dawid, can you please do a video on the old Dell XPS M1730 Gaming Laptop?
Thanks
That description of the gas station, hot dog fart had me laughing pretty hard. Good stuff man keep it up.
Thank goodness it wasn't just me that was just confused as heck on the new Fortnite menu. Sat there for a good 2 minutes wondering where the heck the normal gamemodes were lol
Definitely looking forward to that follow-up video!
I should point out, I am building one of these (9010) that I picked up with 16GB of RAM, the i7-3770, and I am adding a GTX 1050 TI. At 1080p on medium/high settings, you can play anything you want on it. With an SSD and storage drive, these systems are still very capable budget build gaming computers. You can get the entire setup for under $400. Definitely worth it.
The bubbles in the red decal on the face of the tower just really do it for me
Did a HP Envy 2015 sleeper build. added a 3060 ventus and swapped mobo's from the i7-4790 cpu to a bazooka matx mobo and 10th gen 10400f cpu for 1080p CAD drafting, work and gaming.
That’s my guess as an ancient Dell Optiplex aficionado.
i will say i love seeing a VGA port when im messing with tech as 9/10 it will just work and like its fine for anything that isnt gaming
The Gas Station fart joke was so funny! LOL!
"That's kind of what this headset is like, it's like a gas station pie fart gaming headset"
I think Gas station pie fart is now my favorite terminology.
This is exactly like my computer. I5-2500 and 750ti. 200fps in CSGO 144fps in LOL. Has been serving me well and it will continue to do
Anytime Dawid uses the term "Jurassic" or "Triassic" period to describe dated technology is always a good laugh lmao
Probably not with that GPU, though!
love the content Dawid, thanks for this,
have a nice xmas.
I can feel that mouse and keyboard. The design is extremely reminiscent of my first kb+m which was an ajazz dark knight combo. The material of the keyboard is bang on the money same as my old one.
I'm back for a third round just to watch that headphones/garage food fart... errrm... review... and I'm still LMAO. Best YT segment ever 😂😂😂
That case is just amazing and a sleeper build is a must!
"They really leaned into a 13 year old's idea of what looks cool.."
Me, a 32 year old man: and I took that personally.
im shocked 3ed gen is running on that dell. it seems to be dell optiplex 390 since its missing usb 3.0 so normally only 2ed gen support. i wonder if its running a custom bios
Yes we want to see you put some dope fresh and phat hard ware inside that optiplex
Nice review of the headset! That mouse was in the Netherlands at sale for 5 euros at the Action (a low budget store).
i5 3470? I picked up a lenovo oem (thought it was a p4 until i looked at the case closer, aside from a badge its clearly a re-used case), from trash and its sitting about in my garage atm.
I love your videos man, they're so funny easy to watch! If you start any other channels let us know! Also , YES! I would love to see a sleeper build in that sexy sexy optiplex case!
I wonder where i could get that RGB "tunnel" panel thing. That would look sick on my pc.
It’s called an infinity mirror and my brother has a phanteks sff case with it, I’m not sure where you buy them separately
Dawid, Put some guzzle juice on this semi sad OptiPlex. Great video man! Kinda cool lookin' case.
