We have lived in SC all our lives, but due to your awesome Governor we are seriously considering miving to SD. Your videos have helped alot. Can you maybe do a video on the political climate in your area and SD overall? Thanks!
Yeah, the SD governor is pretty awesome. I bought a Trump hat from a guy selling stuff in a tent in front of a gas station while driving down from the Black Hills the other day while I was visiting there. We are definitely considering a move early next summer when our youngest gets done with high school here in Texas.
South Dakota is a beautiful state. We were there this past September and it snowed and was very cold! But I saw some of the most beautiful sceneries in the country. I love South Dakota! Thanks for sharing!
My wife and I are planning on moving to Rapid City from Massachusetts ASAP. Your videos are just what we needed to make it final . We definitely will be contacting you to purchase a house within the next few months .

I have lived most of my life here in Fort Worth, Texas, but I did spend a little time in New York City in 1992-93 and in the Denver area in 1994-95. I'll never live in NYC again, but I loved living in Colorado. My wife and I (who wasn't married to me when I lived in metro Denver) have wanted to move away from the oppressive summers and awful traffic here in Dallas-Fort Worth, and we've looked at Colorado and Montana (because I love mountains). The real estate in Colorado is too expensive, and the home prices in Montana don't measure up with the salaries there. We did just visit Rapid City and the Black Hills area and loved it. We are looking to move somewhere early next summer (after our youngest gets done with high school), and Rapid City is high on our list. The weather you describe doesn't sound much different from that in Colorado....
I think your view of Spring is definitely overly optimistic. Spring in the Rapid City region is absolutely wild roller coaster weather! You have nice days mixed with cold and dreary days in the spring. You can also have raging blizzards in March and April, but true blizzards are an exception to the rule. You can even get snow in May in Rapid City, which is very depressing. Fortunately it quickly warms up that time of year after any cold snap. The other thing I would add is about tornadoes. You can have tornadoes in Western SD, even in the Black Hills. However, most of the tornadoes in the West River region tend to be weaker tornadoes. Eastern SD normally sees a lot more tornadoes, and you a higher chance of seeing a violent tornado in the east.
Go over building codes. If I want to buy raw land and go off grid and I am looking in the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. What about homeschooling and property restrictions.
Very well put, laid it out very well. I’ve been considering moving to the area, I’m from NC so I know it would be a huge change, not only the environment but the weather, appreciate the info.

I had a feeling it would be milder than Sioux Falls with that prairie wind they have. I grew up in Detroit, and have been in Phoenix the past 25 years. Seems like a nice place to semi- retire and get out of the heat.
Were thinking of moving to Rapid City, from the videos I've seen, your weathers more moderate than South Lake Tahoe, Ca, very tired of shoveling snow, winters here can last 9 months
I want to move there, I really do! I live in Las Cruces, NM, and our Growing Zone is 8a, but our Heat Factor puts an edge to plants that should survive, but they don't!
