Sioux Falls is way more Midwestern vibe and a economic powerhouse. Rapid is more touristy and isolated. More of a Mountain vibe. Sioux Falls to work live, Rapid for vacation.

Ok ok we get it. Really though, Rapid City hasn’t grown much at all and I understand the lack of business infrastructure and all. I’ve heard all the reasons. As many thousands of people that come and go on vacation over the decades one would think, hey, it’s a great place for entrepreneurs to establish new businesses and a beautiful place to live and raise a family.
Now on the opposite end, we are just as happy Rapid City hasn’t grown much. What would it be like out there if It were four times as big? So who knows. Maybe this was all planned and staying smaller was the bigger goal.

Definitely Rapid City! It's better scenery and not as long or harsh winters as Sioux Falls. There is definitely more places to shop in Sioux Falls, but I think there are plenty here in Rapid. There is also much more to do activity wise in Rapid City. I might be biased though as I live in Rapid.

I live in Texas and was looking at Sioux Falls. Out here I can find plenty of 1-10 acre lots with new homes on them, albeit overpriced due to current real estate conditions. I can't seem to find any larger lot new construction homes around Sioux Falls however. It's strange. You have all that land but most homes are on small lots?

Good video but not quite accurate.
My wife is from South Dakota she was born on a Eastern side in Brant in a raise in spearfish in the Black hills.
Every year we would go back and forth to the Eastern side of the state to visit the family at a reunion.
The reason why it's warmer in the hills than it is in the planes is because the hills would create their own weather vortex if you will.
Is what they call the Chinook winds.
I believe the year was 1995 we went swimming outside on Christmas Day at that same year we are camping up in the hills on the 4th of July and it snowed on us at pactola lake.
I myself being from Florida don't really care for Eastern South Dakota too flat and two farmland for me very cold very muddy very agricultural.
    I love the hills.
But yes very expensive to live there because of all the Californians and New Yorkers moving there.
They are totally changing to dynamics of such a beautiful rule state.

Ah I can see that you are of the kind that dislikes and blames Black people for everything. If that is true you should fit in real well in Rapid City. I grew up in the South but it wasn’t until I moved to rapid city have I ever felt unwelcome. From people asking me what I was doing here to employers not hiring me because of my race. Yeah I experienced it all when I moved her. Not to mention the racism that my Wife experiences daily. She is part Native American and Irish . Which means the Natives don’t accept her and the others treat her funny when they see her Mother. The cost of an apartment is not that much in Sioux Falls because it is growing because the job market is booming. People are moving to Rapid but it’s job market is not big enough to support that growth. Rapid is a tourist trap filled with service industry jobs. Sioux Falls has more of a variety of industries to choose from.

I've lived in Rapid City since 2009, I'd be curious to see his breakdowns of the other towns around here. I personally like to visit Spearfish, Hill City and Custer pretty often because they have a decent selection of restaurants/breweries and access to cool parts of the hills. Hot Springs is also very nice, definitely has more of a small town/isolated feel but is also only an hour away from here so there is access to our shopping. Sturgis exists for the rally, it's an ok town right on the interstate but is kind of just a gateway from the interstate to Deadwood/Lead.

Biggest reason the overall cost of living is more in Rapid City then Sioux Falls, is the Black Hills and all the year-round outdoor recreational activities. And don't forget all the tourists. They come to vacation and don't care what it costs them to visit. By the way, Western SD can get hail bigger then golf ball sized. Some up soft ball sized. All depends on the storm.

I'm thinking your state looks incredible from up here in Canada. You guys seem to be keeping things relatively cool it seems. Can you help foreigners find their way around?
The Black Hills looks the most like home, looking at it from google earth there seems to be something peculiar going on there. It ...seems like a nature preserve interspersed with ..other things XD What is the structure of things there, what is it like to live there? It's tourist-packed sometimes I imagine, they probs wanna keep it that way so are they COVID obsessed there, like, this is what I want to get away from, I mean why I've started looking around. I'm so tired of it all I looked at Alaska and... yyyep masks everywhere XD I saw your vid on the politics of it right now, but what about this region in particular if you don't mind terribly going into this?
My ultimate goal is to put down roots somewhere, get some land, mini ranch sort of thing, and work mostly off it. I'm in trades. What about laws regarding your animals getting out. Stuff like that.
Want somewhere stable oc, what my area is losing. Not a good time for thinking about starting families.
Yh, so, looking for 5-20 acres, vacant lots. Cool neighbors.

I think the area of Rapid City nestled against the Black Hills is absolutely beautiful and with out a doubt, the most beautiful country east of the Rocky Mountains. Why Rapid City hasn’t grown more amazes me with that in mind. The winters there aren’t as harsh as the east river part of the state. The business environment is very friendly. Why hasn’t it kept pace with Sioux Falls? I don’t know. Now I’m speaking of a time frame of over half a century, so that’s a great deal of time for things to change. I was born in Sioux Falls in 1951 and since then Sioux Falls has almost quadrupled in population. 🤔🤔🤔 ok, go figure.

    • @Dollsteak69
      @Dollsteak69 11 місяців тому

I would suspect the reason Rapid hasn't grown as much is because there really isn't a huge population in any direction unless you go Cheyenne and Denver. I'm originally from Minneapolis and currently in Colorado and I'm amazed at how people view the "Cold" of the Upper Midwest. They will in no way voluntarily move up there. Funny thing is that the one who venture up there never leave. Shhhhhhh. Be well!

Great shows! Just broaden your perspective a little. $3,000 over asking is one thing. Houses sell for $1/4M over asking in California. Here's how it generally works for the Black Hills. If you ask a South Dakotan, the big spenders come from Colorado. But where does Colorado get their money? California. California is the 5th largest economy in the world. I don't care how and where money comes from. I just know how it works.
