My Dad bought one new in 87 so I have fond memories of these cars, one of my top 2 cars. He put a bigger turbo from kenny bell that added about 45hp and ran 21 lbs of boost max, chipped, test pipe, etc. It was a beast.
I just started watching this series... Great timing as I got another GN after having to sell my first one 15 Yeats ago. In this video, you removed some wiring I just added. When you found the random fuse under dash.. and thought it was a way to reset check engine lights...it actually has a different purpose. It's an anti-theft device that by pulling the fuse, cuts off power to the ECM...so the vehicle doesn't start. I just installed this kit in mine..lol. Love the full series... it's basically what I'm doing with mine now.
Your SHOW perfectly encapsulates the spirit of all the old shows. Thank you for what you're doing and keeping car repair fun and educationally accessible. And always love Peter's word of the day!
I worked in advertising for 8 years... UA-cam has over 2 billion subscribers. Alex your network/ channel is literally television sir. Down be surprised if a linear network reaches out to you in your team. You doing a great job. 🏆
I totally agree. Alex and Peter would make entertaining hosts, entertaining and knowledgeable. I would only hope that the show would not get dumbed down or over hyped like so many do....
AND DON’T DO IT IF THEY DO!! I think moving to a TV format would ruin your channel. You’d lose creative control, have to bow to corporate pressure and be beholden to big advertisers. Stay free and keep creating the awesome content!!
Don't move to a network. It might sound like a lot of money but you will lose control and frankly lose some of us in UA-cam, just because I don't watch the networks. It won't be future proofed. Recently I saw the headline that Jay Leno's Garage was dropped by NBC.
It is greatly appreciated that you guys do not edit out the mishaps or gremlins that pop up when doing this work. The information you and Peter give us to correct those setbacks are invaluable! Thanks for staying genuine and humble for your subscribers. It's hard to find youtubers like yourselves these days. Wishing everyone at LSC much more success! God speed and stay safe!
Also, the blend door for the HVAC system in that car is vacuum operated, and those are typically a source of vacuum leaks. Almost all of the 80s and 90s GMs were vacuum operated. My 1996 GMC Jimmy had a vacuum operated 4WD system and I had to replace the vacuum canister, the blend door actuator, and quite a few of the vacuum lines because they were all either rotted or were leaking.
This channel IS MY MORNING CAR SHOW channel! It has just turned out to be this way. You have the perfect number of cars and stories to go with each car to keep multiple stories going at once. You and Peter are 2 humble and entertaining guys to watch and its about how down to earth you both are that keeps me coming back. That humility is top notch, the cars are great, your knowledge drops are fantastic and even though this is entertainment, i feel like I'm learning something along the way.
I'd leave the visors grey.... I think the contrast against the black liner looks good. 👍.... and what a time capsule of a find!! Love the Grand National.
Long-time watcher here, and despite this channel not always being at the top of my automotive UA-cam list, it certainly is now! Best combination of fun presenting, cool cars, and constant entertainment and education on mechanical aspects. Peter and Max also help make the channel what it is today. They were great additions!
Just when I thought this car channel couldn't get any better, you find the coolest side kick in the world (Peter) and you start working on one of my favorite cars ever. Thank you Alex.
LSC has become my favorite Saturday morning car show. I love the tweaks you’ve made to the format in the last few years. Hope to see you around the Chicago area once things warm up.
Just some info from back in the day. T/B coolant delete will allow your throttle body to frost up and stick if you drive in winter. It will. Things we did: The fuel pumps hit wire kits, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 3" down pipe, LT1 maf & translator, Big mouth intake, 42#-60# injectors, Walbro 255lph fuel pump or bigger, 10mm spark plug wires, 160° tstat, hybrid turbo like Ta44/60 something for 600hp and reduced lag. Polyurethane adjustable rear 4 links to add some tilt to the diff. Polyurethane trans mount. Engine torque strap, msd etc Went high 10s on avg. I remember one guy that was running 7s. Crazy fast. We used to paint the plenum & sand the top fins paint & plug wires color match etc.
The grand national has got to be one of my favorite "series" you have put out just purely in the amount of enjoyment the car gives your soul! I think it gives a lot of inspiration for other people to go search for the dream car they have always wanted since they were a little kid.
Look forward to these videos every week. A lot of UA-camrs are entertaining but far fewer are entertaining and actually work on cars. I consider myself a pretty good home mechanic and I learn a ton from these videos.
I scour the interwebs for a couple hours a week to look for GN videos, never have i been more connected in all opinions on how this build is going. You earned my sub this video and I am super impressed with your knowledge of the four greatest vehicles ever produced, the GM V6 monsters of the 80's and 90's. Thanks for the best last half hour of my recent life, look forward to the next GN video. Long live Lord Vader!
That car is just badass, and the enthusiasm you blokes have all through this video is infectious. Super happy you got this thing sorted out! Now you get to enjoy it for a while before the big resto project 😊
Guessing the TB Warming circuit was a de-icer for winter driving. In the old carb days, you had a warming tube on the air cleaner sucking heat off the exhaust manifold. Mine was missing on an old Mazda B2000, and she kept dying out on me on winter highway drives. Finally got smart and pulled the filter cover and there was actual ice building up in the throat of the carb. The drop in atmospheric pressure as it passed through the venturi caused the metal to supercool in that area, and any moisture would stick and freeze around the throat of the carb. Pretty crazy but cool science.
Black and gray is a vibe. I have an E46 with the terrible dove gray interior. Been slowly swapping out a few things for black and it's improved tremendously.
I have to say that your videos are waaaay better than any of the shows I watched growing up. There's no non car-guy producer messing things up. Just a couple authentic car dudes working on what they love. Keep doing what you're doing fellas. I can see your channel blowing up like the donut car channel. In my opinion you and cleetus have the best UA-cam car shows.
Alex just saying Stacy David would be so proud of you you are a perfect host very entertaining and well spoken. The grand national is a dream of mine as well right up there with Mad Max interceptor
I grew up watching the SPEED channel and you are definitely better than any of those shows! I’m so glad you make longer videos for those of us that actually want to sit down and watch a good car show 👍🏻
My dad's dream car. He got one and let's just say it didn't handle well in the snow. Slid it down the guard rail on the cloverleaf at the bishop Ford and the tri-state TWICE back in the day. Had to get rid of it after the second time. He was heartbroken.
Alex... I had an 87 a few years ago and had to sell it. I found another one about the same time as you started doing videos on yours. I needed to do almost all the same things you did, so you were a huge help ! When I saw your Tinman I take, I remembered that I had one on my first GN. Long story short, I found out that I live 45 minutes from the Tinman...so we met in Pontiac. MI to pick it up. Wr talked for over an hour and he shared so much. Like you, I can't believe I actually own one. And like you I brought it back to new condition... even better actually.. i aded a factory power trunk and factory powet drivers seat mechanism....now, I'll drive it all the time. Thanks for all the help. You've actually restored 2 GN's in your process !!!
I’ve owned my Grand National for quite some time. I’ve never watched a video like your video. You were so informative long. I really appreciate what you’ve done. Thank you so much.
Leave them sunvizors alone! lovely car man, GN was my dream too. My grandpa's neighbor in the parking garage had one and it was a cool machine when it came out.
Most of us back in the day brought the maf translator in the cabin for easy adjustment and left the cover completely off. Glove box was a common location. No one could afford $1000 widebands in those days so we tuned without them using narrowband, EGT, and knock sensors for reference. Fun times it was pioneering the tuning scene.
I didn’t like Stacey David. There….I said it. You just can’t trust a dude named “Stacey”. I bet Stacey David was flying that Chinese spy balloon with dove grey bmw interior.
I also have a 87 GN that was willed to me last year when my dad passed away. He used to drag it so the engine , trans and rear end are very built and aprox 700hp. It ran in the low 10s. Im trying to get it back to looking stock. Amazing you found the original wheels. Thank you for going into excellent detail. Very fun to watch !
86 Pontiac 2 plus 2 gran prix. Pulled it out of woods 20 years ago with 187k and it still sits in garage. Total pos. Project was sidelined by cancer and a car accident that left me with spine problems. Oh well, I still love to look at that fastback and beak they did that year. I believe there are only 1183 ever made.
Oh Alex you probably know this. But just incase you didn't. They make a 145mph speedo replacement . I never understood why they chose to put the 85 mph one .
Alex is on a roll - a bunch of outstanding videos in a row! This channel has evolved into the best automotive repair and modification channel on UA-cam. Congratulations as as the channel approaches a very deserving 1M subscribers.
Alex I love the channel, you’re doing what I wish I could do! Keep the grey visors, that 2 tone interior is gorgeous and the original tag on the visor really makes it work keeping! It’s awesome watching the excitement that you and Peter have for these cars
This is definitely my favorite project of yours. I would suggest finding another set of sunvisors, Take your new ones and dye them to match. Keep your tan ones in perfect condition stored off to the side.
Always loved these cars back in the day and they always played with my 90 Mustang 5.0 notchback but what i enjoyed about this is this brought back memories of upgrading mine with 80/90s tech.
The 86 I did had T-tops. The amount of wind noise was typical of a GM 80s car. I replaced everything on the top and all the moldings. I also dyno matted just about everything I could. The car rattled from the factory. I also put in a new instrument cluster. The Factory digital gauges were wonky. The next thing we are putting on is Bilstein shocks and 20 inch GNX/GTA style wheels. You will find that the car sits too high from the factory and has a lot of body roll
This is the best video ever!!!!! love all your stuff and this "Legit Upgrades" (great ring to it right?) series is another awesome fun idea and how appropriate to release it Saturday morning :) Hope to see more like this in the future!
Man another amazing video as always! I love these long vidoes. I could spend all day watching you guys. The channel is so engaging and the videos make it feel like you're working on the cars with your buddies. You, Peter and Max are awesome and thank you as always for bringing us amazing content!
Just get regular sun visors off a Regel do them black to match head liner, and save the other ones, save the factory ones, I remember having a 78 Regel 3.8 turbo fun car until I wore it out,Love your channel, God Bless you and your Family
3 1/2 speaker's in the dash and 4×10 in the rear deck lot's of upgrades available. The G/N is kickass and I used to work for GM in the late 90s and I worked on a GTA and it ripped. That shop I believe is in Plainfield Illinois. My buddy got his G/N from them
I like the black headliner but I would go ahead and get a new set of black sun visors and dye the pillar trim so that everything above the windows is black. You can always make a shadow box display out of the visor to preserve it if you ever want to put the originals back on. Thanks for the Saturday morning car fix Alex! 😂
Tuning with gas pedal and paper reminds me of helping my dad pull obd1 trouble codes by doing a pattern with the key and counting the flashes of the light on the dash.
I mean I watch your channel on Sunday mornings on my 60 inch TV, so you ARE a TV show guys. And one of my favorites at that. I've always loved GN's, one of the most iconic 80's cars ever made IMO. This thing looks so fun to play with enjoy it!
I don't work on cars that much but I do work in IT / TV and Radio Engineering. I absolutely love cleaning up old hack wiring jobs and bringing things back to "factory". It usually fixes three quarters of problems!
Cool video. I've had my GN for a reeeeaaaallly long time and love it. Good to see the GN love. I noticed right away the 36# injectors (from the Thunderbird Super Coupe back in the day - I had 'em too with a 7th injector!) you have a modified factory intercooler, adjustable wastegate rod(not factory), aftermarket oil feed line to the turbo and a bunch of other small bits. Keep an eye on that fuel line at the regulator. That fitting and clamp looks a little wonky. I know of one of these cars burning down due to cheaply modified fuel line connections. Your next call should be to Julio Don at ALKY Control for a methanol kit. You'll see 27psi on pump gas!! Have fun! - WARP 6 in NC
Check out the Banks SuperGauge you can have 8 readouts at once or just 1 if desired. I love mine. I just wish I didn't have to keep the AEM wideband gauge still wired in.
Wow man that hour + 16 went by so fast, that was a fun video I love it, never been in a GN either but I remember watching them racing Mustang’s and Firebird’s and Camaro’s and Rotary’s on Fountain Avenue behind JFK airport back in 90’s…FUN TIMES…FUN TIMES!!!
This might be the most epic LSC video to date 😍. Pure excitement. Installing the spark plugs reminds me of the old Chuck Yeager ad video..."AC Delco. Power when you need it." That's just a start...😁
Kathy in Missouri here. I'm an owner. Finally! My grand national is original, not a T . It gets away from me often. Got my first trophy at Christmas for first place Classic Car. 1987 83k miles. Love your video!
Man, this is giving me flashbacks of my best friends Grand National. The triple gauge pod is the way to go! LOL, we used to terrorize Archer and having around 750hp made that easy. Although we first learned what fast was when we saw a jacked up Grand National with purple graphics on it. He walked us like we were standing still, which was crazy for a low 11 sec car. We ended up talking to him after and found out that was him in slow mode. He was only running 14 lbs of boost at the time and the car had a max of around 40 lbs.
From the engine cutting off and other mechanical issues in the beginning until now, this is total ASMR to watch it up and running smoothly! well done LSC!
Great video, and I loved the intro about growing up watching TV shows with the host standing in front of a table full of parts. Glad this came true for you. I know I'd watch you on TV on those Saturday mornings if the times were like back then. Great work!
Smiled through this whole video. Brought me back to my first turbo regal (87 WE4). Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see you and Peter rolling together in your 80's monsters!!
Love the channel and all the Grand National coverage. I bought an '87 brand new (my first brand new car at 23 years old) in very late 1987, December actually. Had the car several years, than life took over and got married. Found the current owner of the car (lives about 45 minutes from me) about 10 years ago, and have been trying to buy it back since. Someday he'll let it go. Hopefully. Had lots of fun with the car back in the day. Keep up the great content!!
Great Buick Old School GN instructional video on how to fix or upgrade so many parts in TC engine and interior as well. I heard in a documentary that V Ice rift leaves out one note which makes it different than Under Pressure to avoid copyright issues. Ice Ice Baby. Anyway the 90’s tune was quite cool and helpful for those looking to soup up their old school ride.
Grand National is recognized. Its the go to add in in most racing games with classic muscle cars and movies love putting it out there. It truly is a national treasure, first efi turbocharged little v6 that kicked everyones ass.
I finished my Buick Grand National with a 50-hour Restoration! ua-cam.com/video/gM0AiLbT7GI/v-deo.html
Veo tus videos todo el tiempo me encanta todo sobre vehículos 🚗 💪🏼💪🏼

Years ago Gary Oswald specialized in Grand Nationals and Turbo V6 stuff in Elk Grove Village.
Your SHOW perfectly encapsulates the spirit of all the old shows. Thank you for what you're doing and keeping car repair fun and educationally accessible. And always love Peter's word of the day!
Well said, I completely agree
Perfectly said!
100%
LSC is BETTER than any car TV show I can think of except, maybe, classic Top Gear.
And if it is any consolation, I do watch you on my TV Alex
I love the black headliner! Leave the visors just like they are. I think the two-tone is appropriate for the car and it looks cool!
I just wish someone made a headliner for my G-body I have a 4 door Malibu which is longer than the 2 doors
Naaa. Those visors gotta go.
I 100% agree, keep it as is. It matches the interior very nicely.
I’d keep them maybe just clean them up(while protecting the sticker!)
Yeah the black headliner is mint
I worked in advertising for 8 years... UA-cam has over 2 billion subscribers. Alex your network/ channel is literally television sir. Down be surprised if a linear network reaches out to you in your team. You doing a great job. 🏆
I totally agree. Alex and Peter would make entertaining hosts, entertaining and knowledgeable. I would only hope that the show would not get dumbed down or over hyped like so many do....
If he goes this route he loses control. Turn down the offer if it comes!
@@knightonwarbeck1969 agreed seems like they are doing great on their own. I can’t imagine anything good coming from getting a network involved.
AND DON’T DO IT IF THEY DO!! I think moving to a TV format would ruin your channel. You’d lose creative control, have to bow to corporate pressure and be beholden to big advertisers. Stay free and keep creating the awesome content!!

Since you two have teamed up, your channel has become THE best car channel on UA-cam. I simply must watch every video. Keep it coming!
Long-time watcher here, and despite this channel not always being at the top of my automotive UA-cam list, it certainly is now! Best combination of fun presenting, cool cars, and constant entertainment and education on mechanical aspects. Peter and Max also help make the channel what it is today. They were great additions!
This was one of the most fun UA-cam videos I’ve watched in awhile. The nostalgia, the teamwork, and the excitement at the end are just so good.
Just when I thought this car channel couldn't get any better, you find the coolest side kick in the world (Peter) and you start working on one of my favorite cars ever. Thank you Alex.
Let’s be honest….Peter is good but A Chinese spy balloon is the greatest sidekick.
Side note…pretty sure “sidekick” is raycisss now
Peter is the best. He's the sort of guy who's presence and smile makes your day.
Not only to I like how Alex and Peter get along, I also love the length and instructional purpose these videos provide. Good work guys!!
LSC has become my favorite Saturday morning car show. I love the tweaks you’ve made to the format in the last few years. Hope to see you around the Chicago area once things warm up.

That triangle hole assembly immediately jumped into my mind as being an alarm horn mounting point. You need some security on that beast!
That car is just badass, and the enthusiasm you blokes have all through this video is infectious. Super happy you got this thing sorted out! Now you get to enjoy it for a while before the big resto project 😊
The wiring clean up excites me way more than it really should.
How can I start learning wiring, who can I can I watch what can I read?
Thank you for this over an hour long video on a Saturday morning!! I now have something to do!! 🎉
I love seeing you and Peter so happy!! Safe and happy driving guys!!
These cars were way ahead of their time! So cool we can now simplify and perfect the way the turbo works in them.
Guessing the TB Warming circuit was a de-icer for winter driving. In the old carb days, you had a warming tube on the air cleaner sucking heat off the exhaust manifold. I agree. Doing same thing to my Mercedes s500
I had an e36m3 with that dove grey interior….it’s terrible. I bet that Chinese spy balloon had dove grey interior.
When grey or white is clean, it looks mint. Black looks good too, but you don't know how gross it is until you clean it.
@Long sleeve thong the grey Vader seats are pretty boss though.
I have to say that your videos are waaaay better than any of the shows I watched growing up. There's no non car-guy producer messing things up. You must not have grown up watching Chinese spy balloons
Here's what happened to the Honda Swapped Mercedes after driving home 800 miles! ua-cam.com/video/uNdWa32wy4A/v-deo.html
The black headliner rocks
Alex just saying Stacy David would be so proud of you you are a perfect host very entertaining and well spoken. The grand national is a dream of mine as well right up there with Mad Max interceptor
I grew up watching the SPEED channel and you are definitely better than any of those shows! I’m so glad you make longer videos for those of us that actually want to sit down and watch a good car show 👍🏻
This is better than a TV show... You guys rock, love the format and how you have fun with it...
YES! It’s like the modern Saturday morning Power Block TV.
I really dig the two tone effect with the headliner and the sun visors. Really enjoying your videos!!
My dad's dream car. He got one and let's just say it didn't handle well in the snow. Slid it down the guard rail on the cloverleaf at the bishop Ford and the tri-state TWICE back in the day. Had to get rid of it after the second time. He was heartbroken.

Feature film-length video of GN mods. What more could we ask for on a Saturday! Love this car, and love you and Peter as a team. Awesome.
Chinese spy balloon shootings
I smile whenever Alex tells us how much he loves his Grand National.
I'm flashing back to my youth thanks to Alex and Peter. MO POWWA!
@LSC Peter Love you guys
Alex, your channel gets as many or more views than those shows we used to watch on Horsepower TV every Saturday morning. You’re killing it!
Shows like yours are the spiritual successor to the old Powerblock shows. I love this series!
I think Stacey David would like this. 😁

I like the contrast. Keep the visors.
leave the sunvisors the contrast is excellent
Trying to stay a pretty little fucker?

This one of my favorite videos. Takes me back to the 90s for sure! Great job, guys.
Another killer episode guys. This channel gets better every week. Your taste in cars is identical to mine. Keep up the great work guys!
Black headliner with Grey visors looks amazing. How it SHOULD have been. If I ever get one I'd do it
Alex is on a roll - a bunch of outstanding videos in a row! This channel has evolved into the best automotive repair and modification channel on UA-cam. Congratulations as as the channel approaches a very deserving 1M subscribers.

That is crazy..the tune the whole set up..those were the days man the good ole 80’s. That car is awesome good job you two..GO GRAND NATIONAL!!
Living the dream boys! Thanks for taking us along. This is STILL my dream car
You should help Peter build his car like you did with your editor. That would be awesome.
They’re doing a series with his starlet and the eclipse
What 80's or 90's cars do you own? Any daily drivers?
I drive a 1988 dodge d100, been my daily for 3 years now
I have a -97 Jaguar xj6
I don't have it but I want it back
1990 acura integra
1989 BMW 525iA and 1986 Honda Jazz (named Honda City in some countrys)
Both have no aircon so they suck to daily drive in the summer.
Have a 97 w211 e320 with the inline 6 🙂
Alex - your success is well deserved. Your enthusiasm with your builds is infectious and makes this one of my "must watch" channels.
Love your videos man keep it up
Just get regular sun visors off a Regel do them black to match head liner, and save the other ones, save the factory ones, I remember having a 78 Regel 3.8 turbo fun car until I wore it out,Love your channel, God Bless you and your Family
I’m 20 and I’ve always loved this car for it’s body style but you have made me love it more!! I wish to own one some day
Tuning with gas pedal and paper reminds me of helping my dad pull obd1 trouble codes by doing a pattern with the key and counting the flashes of the light on the dash.
Gotta love the 80’s 85mph speedo with the highlighted 55mph!
YO MAX!! When we're looking at blinky LED gauges, can you put a not blinky number on the screen somewhere? Great video, guys. Thanks for sharing!
I'd put black sun visors on it. When you showed the new headliner my first thought was that the sun visors looked odd now.
This video helped me answer SOOOO MANY Q's with the Turbo Regal. I've been on forums trying to get answers that this one video took care of 💪🏾
The headliner and visors are good to go!
Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm!
Had a MAF translator on a DSM awd, this is definitely a throwback!
Don’t get the circuit board wet, they fry easily with water!!
This might be the most epic LSC video to date 😍. Pure excitement. Installing the spark plugs reminds me of the old Chuck Yeager ad video..."AC Delco. Power when you need it." That's just a start...😁
Every sunday morning i sit back with m'y son to enjoy the show ! Thanks for this positive vibe every week ITs so appreciated
I love my Twin Turbo V6 CTS VSport. People get confused since it doesn't sound like the V8s. It's on E85 and pretty much all bolt ons possible.
Excellent video I’m 38 and growing up always loved the grand national. My dad had a 88 regal.
Like the headliner, leave the visors they match the theme🖤🖤🖤
Kathy in Missouri here. I'm an owner. Finally! My grand national is original, not a T . It gets away from me often. Got my first trophy at Christmas for first place Classic Car. 1987 83k miles. Love your video!
Thanks Kathy, enjoy the car!
That triangle shape is for the factory cruise control module
Man, this is giving me flashbacks of my best friends Grand National. The triple gauge pod is the way to go! LOL, we used to terrorize Archer and having around 750hp made that easy. Although we first learned what fast was when we saw a jacked up Grand National with purple graphics on it. He walked us like we were standing still, which was crazy for a low 11 sec car. We ended up talking to him after and found out that was him in slow mode. He was only running 14 lbs of boost at the time and the car had a max of around 40 lbs.
I used to work in Alberta and they had heated indoor car washes. Very convenient.
Such a great performance and episode!!! Preparing the soda and popcorn...!!!!!!!
Great work!
U GUYS ARE THE BEST UA-cam MECHANIC TEAM. THE WAY U GUYS BOUNCE IDEAS AND THEORIES OFF EACH OTHER IS AWESOME 😎 AND U GUYS ALWAYS STAY POSITIVE
Black sun visor. Looks great!! Your living my dream. My 3 sons and I love the channel!!!!! Keep'em coming!! Thank you for the amazing content!!
Great tutorial. We (all TR owners) know and appreciate your excitement for the car! Great content!!
I swear every time I watch your episodes, you put a big smile on my face. you guys are fun.
Very Happy For Ya Buddy! Beautiful ride!
Love it! Strange to see snow in Mexico. 😜
