Oh and I no joke paid 3k for it and I almost killed myself trying to come up with the money in time because the 96 old man who was selling it decided to teach me a lesson about being prepared. I showed up with no money at first knowing it wasn’t going to last long. I was in love with it and he knew it, he wanted me to have it. He said he’d take 500$ deposit and I was given a month to pay the balance and if I don’t then he would keep my deposit 😮
I specialize in Nissan pathfinders, Xterras, frontiers, and titans. They are known for strawberry milkshake of death. The trans cooler in the radiator cracks and sends coolant to the trans. Check to see if it has the original radiator and replace it asap if it is. Cam and crankshaft sensors are common issues replace all 3 if you get a code for 1. Hitachi sensors only, the plastic coolant fitting at the heater hoses get extremely brittle and like to break off. 05-10 the timing chain guides fail you will here a whine when it happens at 200k I bet the have been done before. Pretty solid otherwise. Fun fact the Nissan Titan 5.6 v8 engine and trans drops right it using factory motor mounts. They did make v8 pathfinders from 08-12 but made less than 10 thousand of them If I remember right. I swap the v8's into Xterras all the time.
It happened to my coworker. She bought a used Pathfinder and her transmission died not even 6months later - dealer said the radiator cracked internally and coolant mixed with transmission fluid. What a shitty design.
Yep, had a brand new Pathfinder in 2005 and trans started slipping at 42K miles, dealer just replaced the shared cooler and flushed the trans. Slipped again at 52K so I traded it in. Ridiculous cooler design.
@@karoltofik8873 so almost every manufacturer uses this same design for cooling the transmission fluid in the radiator. This was simply a manufacturer defect on the radiators that were manufactured by calsonic at that time.
SMOD is easy to prevent on the Titan. Run a small aux cooler and relocate a couple of cooler lines. When it gets cold I throw a piece of cardboard in front.
As a former Nissan guy, the 2005 has a a major defect. The automatic transmission fluid and the coolant were mixing. There was a recall and a majority of them were fixed but like any recall, you have some people that didn't get it fixed. Also, the differential, transfer case, and transmissions on those were Rock solid. I would put those up against any toyota, because I'm a Toyota guy now.
In Europe they wax splitting in half when towing. I'm sure it was 03-07 years. Nissan bought they back, about ten years in. It was the Nivara, the PF wasn't affected.
If the recall wasn't done will they honor it still? VW had a recall on the 87 Jetta heater core and mine failed while I was on the freeway. I got it towed to VW and they fixed it for free. This was in 2002 or so I think
The flip down seat was in my 2004 Grand Prix, You can fold the back seat down, flatten the from passenger seat and it's flat from the back of the trunk to the dash. Good for carrying lumber!
I’ve been really into cheap old practical cars lately. Something about getting something dirt cheap that would have been beat to death and refreshing the suspension, brakes, fluids, and giving it a good detail is so satisfying. They tend to be the least troublesome and easy to work on too. The only problem is finding one that isn’t rusted apart here in MN. I’ve been eyeing up older CRVs, 4Runners, OBS chevys for winter cars of my own. Maybe this pathfinder story will push me over the edge.
More than likely has a Milk Shake brewing in the Radiator. Probably has leaking Valve Cover gaskets. That's usually what triggers the Crank and Cam Postion sensor codes. Oil leaks down the back of the block and coats the sensors.
tell me 3 more facts about nissans of this era just to confirm you didnt steal that guys comment idea for fake internet points like the biggest goof on the net
I bought an 08’ Pathfinder with 150k as my first car. I sold it with 180k. It’s still driving around town. I currently have a 05’ Xterra with 210k. They have their quirks. (Major quirks) SMOD can be fixed with radiator bypass or replacement of radiator. Replace the cam and crank sensors with Hitatchi’s. Timing chain tensioners are a hit or miss, not all will suffer from it, but you’ll know it’s a problem when it sounds like a supercharger. The heater core hose on the passenger side likes to break, replace both with aluminum fittings. The R180 front diffs aren’t the most robust, as they had a tendency to destroy the spider gears under severe and un-severe (they aren’t robust like said) the engines and transmissions are stout. The chassis are pretty stout too. You’ll hear people overseas talk about the frame splitting, but that’s because of rust. They’re solid trucks if you know what to look for. Oh the cats are very common to fail on these too. Don’t wait too long or the cat particles will get sucked back into the engine, and rendering it useless. That’s if they’re severely clogged.
I work at the same yard, same exact location is my assigned area! I was off doing work while my coworker met him! I was sad to see LSC get back in the caddy and drive off. To another time I guess!
I once bought a Porsche 911 (993C2, silver with blue (full) leather interior, upgraded carbon trim and white dials- last month of ''97 production) from a business colleague...and then told my wife. That did not go over too well.

I’m in the process of buying an 09 DTS right now, I personally can’t wait. It was a literal grandmas car bought new, dealer maintained in Florida, I know the grandson, they are giving it to me for $1000, about dealer trade-in value on it. Good luck with the pathfinder
You could probably have a lot of fun with this because the entire front drivetrain and suspension mounting points are shared between Pathfinder, Frontier, Xterra, Titan, Armada and Infinity QX56. The off road thing with these is doing a Titan swap which is the cheap long travel by putting Titan/Armada/QX56 control arms on the narrower trucks. Downside of the Pathfinder for off road is us the independent rear suspension instead of solid axle. All in all you can mix and match parts between all those trucks. If you want to get really crazy there's a big brake kit by doing Pathfinder V8 front brakes and the calipers are the same as one of the sub models of the g35/37 but swapped sides.
What country are you currently living in??….i sure hope things change for ya, for the better and very soon……a LS powered camaro of ANY year would change your life…..and that would be for the better my friend…..i dont know how i did it 20+ yrs ago with none of my cars having cammed/supercharged/soupped up LS power…..man the possibilities are endless!!!…..a 2nd gen F-body Camaro or Firebird is where its at…..still somewhat affordable and the aftermarket support is off of the charts….even a LS swapped c4 or c3 corvette would be sick too if you have a little more fundage to work with!!!
@trentdawg2832 I am in Brasil, and before living here I lived in Guyana and I was born and raised in Venezuela. If you check listings here you'll see that cars that americans consider to be "econoboxes" are what people here consider "luxury" cars. The "affordable" cars are older, high mileage vehicles that are still not really affordable. When you consider what the minimum wage is here and the cost of life you'll see what I mean. A Camaro costs as much as, if not more than, a house here.
@@trentdawg2832 Pretty much the same in Hungary. A 1.8 liter car is basically considered high displacement. The cheapest camaro currently for sale (there are 7 for sale in the whole county) is a 1986, and it needs a LOT of work and money. Goes around 9000USD. The more current and LS ones are 20k+. And you have to fuel them after purchase. Not an easy task when fuel starts at 6USD/gallon.
Had a 06 Pathfinder. Lived south of Buffalo during the 2014 "Snowvember" storm that had 7' of snow dumped. That thing was a tank in the snow. Timing chain guides went bad after 5 years of ownership (my fault). Probably my favorite car that I have owned.
I worked a job at that time that had me traveling every week, so I'd go to Enterprise and get a new car on Monday morning. I'd often get whatever they had on the lot. It was a nice perk getting the black Towncar a few times. In any case, I rented an Armada during a snowstorm, and that thing was a champ. Huge, though. Like being at the helm of a ship in an armada.
The Pathfinder engine is great just check the radiator for milkshake as they radiator has a transmission tube to cool that breaks that were in the 05-07 models. Also check the timing chain guides the they are plastic and need replacing about the mileage that you have now. I bought one new in 06 and had the transmission radiator issue at about 88 gran miles that it needed to be rebuilt but I also already had issues with the overdrive from towing trailers ( pulls up to 6000 miles).
The pontiac grand prix had it. Grandmother had a grand prix gtp comp g with the supercharged 3800. The front passenger seat would fold down on it. 18:14

Hi Alex, been a long time subscriber i really enjoy your content, i have some first hand experience On the pathfinder you could either replace the radiator, but the also have an external trans cooler, i had an 05 as well, mine was an XE 4X4, it ended up with the strawberry milkshake of doom that bmxguy08 was talking about, i ended up flushing it and looping out the radiator and just stuck with the external cooler, never had another minutes problem out of it
2004 to 2008 grand prix had the fold down front seat. I had a 05 GXP with the LS4. Ate that 4t65e trans every 20k miles lol. And front tires were wider than rear. Fun car for fwd.

How bad is to change the timing chain in one of those?
@joseacuna3239 its def not fun but not horrible least it faces the front so ur not fighting the frame rail on a maxima etc
I love watching copart tours very interesting 👌
Middle of the week LSC? LFG!
They have tons of cars wow. Would be so much fun getting to check them all out. Wish we had something like around here
I am dying to accidentally make a mistake like this.😂
Outstanding!!!!! the wheels and tires are worth 500!!! keep up the great content
I don't watch every video, but the common denominator in every video is Alex's genuine enthusiasm. I smile every time I watch. Thanks Alex and crew
Hey Alex, I've been a very long time viewer now and I haven't thanked you for the hours of entertainment. I was also a MB tech for about 5 years. Good to see a fellow tech... Who delt with MB nightmares lol anyway I wanted to say these auction day videos are really interesting! I think they should be a regular occurrence. Thank you!
-zero from Dallas, TX 🤘🏽👍🏽
P.S. you're living my dream man! living vicariously through you 🥲
The Pontiac model with foldable passenger seat was the Montana
I think the pontiac vibe had the same feature
04+ Grand Prix had them
So did PT Cruiser...very handy on long solo drives
You got a great deal with the Pathfinder!!!! Nice! 😀
I’m in the process of buying an 09 DTS right now, I personally can’t wait. It was a literal grandmas car bought new, dealer maintained in Florida, I know the grandson, they are giving it to me for $1000, about dealer trade-in value on it.
Good luck with the pathfinder
Congratulations Alex on moving up to a Pathfinder!
This was a great video of you in a Candy Store ! Cheers
I hate these videos. Now the rest of the day is ruined. I’m going to be on Copart for the rest of the day. 😂
hahaha same here brother
Love these Copart videos!
Ok did anyone guess correctly from the Thumb!
Haven’t watched yet but looks like an Xterra
@@joemother1098That's what I'm thinking.
Looks like xterra, but appears to be missing roof bump. So pathfinder?
Nope
I was wrong.
I love these mid week drops from you Alex
12:16 Pause.
😂😂
😂😂😂
lol nice
Oof 😂
I am a 35yo die hard gearhead, but I have never owned a car. I envy how affordable used cars are in the US.
@ damn thats harsh
@@trentdawg2832 Pretty much the same in Hungary. A 1.8 liter car is basically considered high displacement. The cheapest camaro currently for sale (there are 7 for sale in the whole county) is a 1986, and it needs a LOT of work and money. Goes around 9000USD. The more current and LS ones are 20k+. And you have to fuel them after purchase. Not an easy task when fuel starts at 6USD/gallon.
@@alekszen92 the cheapest new gen Camaro on sale here is 170.000reais. The average minimum wage is 1500-1600 reais, depending on the state.
Nice buy. I hope you do videos on fixing up this Nissan pathfinder. I have a 2015 Nissan frontier pro 4x with the 4.0 v6 and I love it.
Alex, you got to go to those auctions more often! Every time it's good viewing!
Thumbs Up!!!
Please More Auction Walk-around Videos !!!!
Nice a Pathfinder / Navarra with a good frame. Amazing find
The pontiac grand prix had it. Grandmother had a grand prix gtp comp g with the supercharged 3800. The front passenger seat would fold down on it. 18:14
LSC Wednesday drops are the best thing ever!
That crewcab 6.0 Powerstroke will definitely test your mechanical abilities.
My 03 pontiac vibe has the fold down passenger seat also I really appreciate what you do it gives me inspiration to work on my own vehicles
Yes. All r35 gtr engines are hand built and have the builder signature plate. 22:03
21:31 we are the same age, my first car… 86 Trans am… carbureted 305, in White!
Love a mid week LSC. Best content!
Fun Wednesday! Thanks
I have seen new very deep emotional sides of you in this Alex, I appreciate you showing those personal sides as well.
I've been looking for a winter beater all summer and fall. Couldn't find one so now I'm driving my mk7 golf! And it's on super bc coilovers at the max ride height! This is gonna be a fun winter!
Hi Alex, been a long time subscriber i really enjoy your content, i have some first hand experience On the pathfinder you could either replace the radiator, but the also have an external trans cooler, i had an 05 as well, mine was an XE 4X4, it ended up with the strawberry milkshake of doom that bmxguy08 was talking about, i ended up flushing it and looping out the radiator and just stuck with the external cooler, never had another minutes problem out of it
That Pathfinder is a very cool find. 👍👍
I'm probably in the miniority. But I'm enjoying the Old GM cars than the exotics. You would have so much fun with a super 3.8 in any car.
What a day! Tavarish, LSC and Hoovie all dropped today?! My afternoon is now booked
I have a 2011 pathy she’s a dream right ride man your gonna love it
2004 to 2008 grand prix had the fold down front seat. I had a 05 GXP with the LS4. Ate that 4t65e trans every 20k miles lol. And front tires were wider than rear. Fun car for fwd.
Digging the midweek videos man.. 💪💯
Very impressive. Alex been at the auction many times before? I would say the reality of the purchase is right on!
Love Pathfinders! Wish my Girlfriend had one. I drive a 2013 Pathfinder and she drives an 2006 Sentra. This would be perfect for Kentucky winters.
I love the fact that you still get excited over "regular" cars considering the fleet you have.
Cool buy. Hope it’s a good one.👍😎
Man, if I had the bank roll id love to get in on this! As much as I love Racing and the Auto Industry. My body is getting worn down. Great content as always.
The Pontiac Vibe front right seat folds in half so you can put things level from the back up to the dashboard. I have a 2010 GT, 5 speed. 👍
Nice, I just happen to have an '08 Pathfinder (right hand drive) with the 2.5L diesel that I am fixing up for daily driving use 😁. Future videos will be useful
Pathfinder made in Japan quality that's a real great deal Alex , I was hoping for a Toyota 4 runner but this will do just fine
The pathfinders' a wonderful SUV... I originally started with a Toyota 4Runner however they don't produce them any more and modern 4X4s are looking terrible. I have managed to purchase the R52 (yours I can see is an R51) and have taken this over many mountains in the high country of Victoria, Australia.
You will be surprised by this vehicle as I have mine for over ten years and it is still fabulous.
Loving the pathfinder , if you want a challenge find an alfa romeo 166 with the v6 apparently some ferrari parts ,brakes etc bolt straight on , nearly bought one i knew it would break but what a beautiful car
I have a 97 infinity qx4 and it is the best suv it has almost 400k miles on it and I’m planing on swapping the engine with a r50 supercharger
