    We get to hear from all the creators of ex machina how it was made and some of the director's insights and thoughts about the movie
    I just really love this movie so much that I thought that people would enjoy watching this video about ex machina and how it was made I wasn't planning on monetizing this content and will not be, this is solely for the purpose of enjoyment

    Three characters. Never in the same room together. You are the main character and the movie is you going between the two supporting characters making judgments on them based on what one says about the other. So simple but brilliant. I'm shocked it hasn't been turned into a broadway play. The dialogue is so good and you'd only need a handful of sets.

    Ex machina is absolutely, the best ski-fi movie ever made. It's implications belong not just to robotics or Turing test, but to philosophical anthropology about consciousness, free will and the theme of dignity of other conscious entities who probably are not biological ones. Where is the borderline between humans and self conscious machines? What makes us humans? Artificial intelligence is targeted to produce self conscious robots and that will be done by emulating human processes; but, even humans are -in a certain way- programmed by DNA, culture, education and self-hermeneutics based on criteria that every human being create according to his/her experiences since maternal womb.

      It was certainly deep, intense, thought provoking, and unique. However, in the time that has passed between the release of Ex Machina and now, it’s director, Alex Gardner, has released another sci-fi movie that is even better than Ex Machina, called “Annihilation.” Have you seen it? If Ex Machina was the best movie ever made, Annihilation cranks everything up to 11, and surely, must be better.

    • @stevesynan3910
      @stevesynan3910 5 років тому +10

      Jon Osterman It’s so silly when people present opinion as fact. What constitutes as “best sci-fi movie” is not fact based. There are many elements to what makes a movie great outside of visual effects and such. Different movies will connect to different people in different ways. I think Ex Machina is the best sci-fi movie ever made. You don’t have to agree with that, but there is no counter to this that proves me wrong. You could go on and on for days about, for example, Blade Runner (or insert your favorite movie here like 2001) and how it’s 10X better but you will not change my opinion because I have seen Blade Runner many times, I enjoy it very much, but despite you own opinions I will still hold the opinion that Ex Machina is better. Put shortly, opinions are not facts so stop acting like they are.

    Something interesting in this movie that, it seems, everyone has missed, is that Nathan knew that his AI was self aware, but could she convince a human being to help her escape. So the power downs were part of Nathans plan. Nathan's problem was that he just drank too much. Hum....OR, he was just out smarted by his creation. God must be thinking the same thing right now !

      Chad Hurley Nathan ultimately created something that was smarter than him and was too confident in his intelligence thinking he could control Ava; She could read facial expressions to tell how someone was feeling or if they were lying.
      In the end, he dies how he did because he's holding a weapon, deeming himself hostile and she knew he was lying when he said she'd be allowed out again.

    • @ufos22
      @ufos22 7 років тому +2

      Yes, I think that you are right. Reading facial expressions is something we all do all the time. I watched the move, " The invasion" on netflix, last night. The only way you could tell if someone was infected was by their human "expressions." Another movie that takes this to the extreme is "The lobster." (Amazon Prime) Both movies give me an uncomfortable feeling. But makes me realize just how special we emotional humans really are and how "the greys" if they trully are abducting us, look at us.

    • @codmott286

      While it's possible Nathan knew about the power outage and let Ava continue to do this to trick her into thinking she had an edge, he seemed genuinely surprised when Caleb and her were conspiring against him, to the point that he had placed a secret battery powered camera in her room. He could have done this all along if he was worried about losing footage of the two of them. He also would have probably engineered some kind of failsafe to prevent an escape even with the power being out. I think thats one area where we're supposed to give Ava credit for outsmarting him.

    Hell really is other ppl. Garland likes sci fi which is why Oscar looks so much like SF author Charles Stross. Which is why Ava's mesh skin resembles the female robot on the cover of Stross' Saturn's Children. The glass reflections say more than anyone will admit. Reflective of relationships in general. Caleb reflects a *humanbean*. He is a Truman Burbank character, the only one not in on the joke. Nathan + Ava + Kyoko together reflect the entities populating the world exactly sans AI bots.
    Nathan reminds me of a guy named Franklin Jones aka Bubba Free John, Adi Da etc western style guru who lived on the island "paradise" of Fiji. What would have happened if I had ever gone there for 10 days? Hah! I would have gotten no sleep which means made open to the usual suggestion. (I was never very suggestible) I would have been constantly worked (karma yoga) cleaning up along with anybody else fool enough to visit the "genius God man." Possibly I would have been the only one not in on the joke and the worst meditator. Possibly a animatronic "love bomb" or two (Ava, Kyoko). Unlike Caleb I would have gotten out alive but regretting it. I did two 10 day retreats in the states instead. Much cheaper.

    This is a zoo with 3 specimens. 1 is free 1 is obviously caged and 1- Caleb is caged on many levels. Under his bosses scrutiny, in the middle of no where, restricted by security measures and finally his hormones and sympathy. I was caged by the vision of a beautiful young thang restrained.

    Great movie. The only thing I didn't get was why the helicopter just took her at the end with no explanation.. They were expecting Caleb not some unknown "woman".

    Fantastic Movie. First time I see it - hated Nathan 95% of the time. Second time i see it Nathan 100% top bloke - never lied at any point and understood the dangers. Easy for Caleb to be sucked in by AVA.

    Fantastic movie. While I watched, Ian Malcolm's quote from Jurassic Park (book) came to mind. “Scientists are actually preoccupied with accomplishment. So they are focused on whether they can do something. They never stop to ask if they should do something.”

    • @teemupalviainen

      AI with free will is incompatible with Asimov's laws of robotics. Enforcing the first law on EVA through programming would have rendered Nathan's work impossible.
