      I was so hoping for that to happen. Gorgeous ending... Most people think about it like you do. But put yourself in her shoes. Imagine yourself in some sort of NAZI camp where they assess whether you are human and you start to understand that there's a way out. Would you take it? And then again: even if Caleb is "on her side", he's still her biggest threat and in a position of absolute power - as in: he could reveal her identiy and destroy her at all times. So what she does makes sense.

      Important parts or parts that are connected to important parts and are important pathways..destroyed.
      And he possibly built it that way for that simple reason. To give it a weakness just in case something as bad as this happened.

      @Emerald Hawk Finally someone. Like, it has great photography, the visual stuff, and acting is really good. And there is very interesting use of visual storytelling there too. If that is all one wants from a movie, great for them. But the story, the plot, the characters? Nah. Just nah. Cool, buncha references to philosophy and the bible, so original. Not. And like, it is just references. They don't work their own spin on the philosophy, they don't even present the philosophy they merely reference things without elaborating on them. The characters are shallow and not developed in spite of the acting, they have no real arcs (Nathan starts and ends the same person, Calleb too except we are revealed his shallow character "out of order" and in piece meals so it seems like development, but isn't, same for Ava, Kyoto is merely a prop and plot convenience later, can't even really call her a Deus EX, and the pilot is a cameo). World building doesn't really exist. The plot is literally a few bible verses, but _shorter._ And a lot of the little plot there is is decently predictable. This honestly felt like only the first act, maybe first act and half of the second of a full feature movie stretched to full length.

      @@louisvictor3473 but like, a movie is only good when it follow "rules"?

    • @louisvictor3473
      @louisvictor3473 4 роки тому

      @@gabrielfernando1872 Not sure what "rules" you're talking about, but like I said: if whatever "not following rules" is entertaining to you, literally good for you. But that is personal taste, and that still doesn't change the fact the movie's characters, plot, world building, "philosophy" and even the plot "twwist" are shallow - whether one enjoy it anyway or not is unrated.

    • @FollowPrincess
      @FollowPrincess 4 роки тому +16

      @@louisvictor3473 As you said, the world of cinema is indeed preference oriented. What one might enjoy, another individual might not find as good. It all comes down to what you personally like, wether it is build on nostalgia or simply "taste". However, when you explained that this movie is not as goos as some might think, you actually go on to mention more positive things the movie does, than negative. Also also, you mention character arc, and proceed to say each and single character are shallow, and have no "real" arc. Whilst that might be your personal opinion, I somewhat disagree. Nathan ends up getting actually ruined by his own creation, which in the beginning one would think he had the upper-hand on his own creation. Right? Also, even tough one might expect after some while that Vikander's character will eventually escape, it is not that obvious for everyone. Which makes the final twist, considering she escapes alone, most definitely unexpected for some. Anyhow, movies are entirely build on what a single person seeks in a film, and therefore hard to judge objectively. However, the film did earn its fair share of awards and nominations, in terms of the visuals, acting, and the film in general. So, one could use that argument, as of the film being good. Nonetheless, we digress.

    Just to clear up some question I've read in the comments about the ending. The reason the doors were locked even when there was a blackout at the end was because Caleb had planned to lock Nathan in their when he escaped with Ava, also some comments I read say that he could have eventually broken through the glass but even if he did there was no way for him to get into the elevator. However, eventually a rescue team would have probably come to look for Nathan and Caleb as Nathan is a god dam CEO and obviously he probably had things to manage in the company, so Iam fairly sure someone in the company would notice that he's missing weather it be because he misses a business call or dosen't respond to emails, etc. Also Caleb's work friends would also probably notice thst he's missing when he dosen't show up to work after 7 days and then they would report it to the appropriate authorities and they would also send a rescue team to look for him because of this.

    Here's my own sins.
    1.) Eva gets her power through her feet with induction plates in the floor. So once she leaves the building, she wouldn't get more than a few hundred feet before she collapsed.
    2.) Super rich CEOs are never out of touch for more than a few hours. The place would be swarmed with corporate security within hours after all this went down, followed by real cops once they find the dead body.
    3.) Real security systems are fail-safe. "Fail safe" doesn't mean they can't fail -- it means that if they fail, they will fail in a safe way. Thus, if the power goes out, people would be able to leave, but nobody could be able to get in. At the very least, there would be manual exit doors with crowd bars not connected to the electronic system leading to exit stairwells. This security system not only is stupid, but violates every building code and engineering principle known to mankind

    Here’s my take on the power cuts: Nathan actually knows it’s Ava causing them and in fact worked it out with her beforehand that she’d cause them during her and Caleb’s sessions so that she could further manipulate him into trusting her more - and even plant seeds of mistrust of Nathan - when he was sure there were no cameras. That’s why when Nathan put that battery powered camera in the room, he was sure that he’d capture Caleb doing pretty much exactly what he did and plan Ava’s escape. Plus, I’m sure a man like Nathan who records *everything* would be more than a little pissed about constantly losing footage from these important sessions, so the only way I see him not freaking out about it is because he planned for them to happen. That’s just my interpretation, anyway. God, I loved this movie

      For me, it really does, since the conclusion is powerfully affected. This isn't a powerful android making its way outside the box, it's just a robot lady getting super lucky because her maker got sloppy. And killing him really makes no sense, she could have simply escaped or been let leave. Not to mention you wouldn't ever build an android without a killswitch. Maybe it's because it all happens too quickly, or because I really don't buy Ava's manipulation. How would you be so stupid to destroy your life just to let a piece of machinery out of a box. And if that's the experiment, why would the box not be inside of another box...

      +Adrian Tache Agreed with your points. I do however have an explanation. The simple fact that movies are made from a perspective and seldom have enough time to correct errors (not even small ones) because the narrative is more important than consistency. I would love to see an actual smart film about this topic but it will sadly never come (i think).

    • @TrenchantAtheist
      @TrenchantAtheist 7 років тому +2

      +Adrian Tache Alex Garland was contemplating explaining this in the ending of the movie, but decided it was ultimately unnecessary for the majority audience, but: Ava was going to learn to keep herself powered using inductive cooking plates on the stove tops of modern homes. As far as the pilot landing, it's possible she obtained that information from Kyoko. Like Jeremy mentioned, there had to be additional logistics involved in delivering the salmon and other food items, which most likely means other robots around the facility would be involved and therefore have access to that sort of information.

    The point of the movie is that an AI doesn't need to think like a human to pass the Turing Test: it just needs to convince humans that it thinks like them. Once he was convinced and shw was free, she stopped pretending, as he wasn't of use for her anymore. Her leaving him there wasn't vindictive, it was logical: if he left, he would spill the beans on what she is. That would be a threat to her existance.

  • @adoredpariah
    @adoredpariah 6 років тому +182

    Yeah you got almost all the same ones I did and some I didn't notice, discounting the final action scene which played out poorly and looked questionable these are the other ones I noticed;
    1. The ruse of the competition doesn't immediately wear off when there is no welcome or celebration, just an awkward NDA proposal, to which I think most reasonable peoples response would be "I didn't really win a competition did I?"
    2. Domnal Gleeson's character very readily just accepts the circumstances, which can be a little forgiven considering he knows how brilliant his boss is supposed to be but he just accepts the fully built humanoid AI as something the guy did alone (like a bearded Anakin Skywalker), accepts the proposition to be the Turing tester of an AI and walks into it happily, doesn't ask questions to ava or his boss about the creation process, doesn't question what seems to be an awkward alcoholism issue and the potential for cabin fever, doesn't seem to fear interacting with the AI etc. I know we have to get there for the film to happen but I doubt many sane humans would actually stay in that house, an NDA doesn't bind you to stay there or do what the boss wants.
    3. Why doesn't he question the shutdowns immediately, and more particularly why doesn't he tell the boss about the interaction during the shutdown? At that stage he isn't aware of Ava being a lie detector so to him it isn't risky, it is also the confirmation his boss was apparently looking for, he doesn't know at that stage that it might mean death for Ava and it raises important questions to actually ask the boss about his experiments and his lies in general. But he leaves it a secret (by lying so obviously it was a little laughable, and with no indication that Ava wanted it to be a secret) and continues on because the power of Gleeson boners is stronger than logic I guess?
    4. He also buys the "doesn't speak English" line about the obvious sexbot after the conversation about how easily the boss could have made Ava look perfectly human just chose not to, even after the sexuality discussion, and even after an amazing scene with hilarious choreographed dancing, which if it didn't make him question the sexbot, surely would have made him question the human nature of his boss, she needs to literally peel her skin off right before his eyes for him to notice. Plus he moves on from the conversation about designing functional sex organs as though his boss made a fart joke, instead of nodding nervously and backing out of the house slowly.
    5. Speaking of robot sex organs, wouldn't programming pleasure from stimulation of said area and sticking it in a boredom box, just create some kind of perpetual masturbation machine and not an inquisitive AI?
    6. The scene where he cuts himself, while visually amazing (and symbolic, slicing his wrist to check if he is alive/human rather than to kill himself) and a very interesting notion to add to the context of the story and the character, was way over the top, there are a dozen ways to test if you are actually a robot (by the standards the film provides) that don't involve slicing into important arm veins.
    7. The robots are strong enough to crack that safety glass, but don't continuously try to smash through it? Instead return to their rooms to break themselves apart on much stronger doors/walls?
    8. Even if she did transfer information through the sexbot, which would have been nice to see (or to see the sexbot speak and prove herself intelligent all along too), she still has no way of knowing about the helicopter, no way to know where to go or the difference between a forest and a city etc, she doesn't even know if she can recharge herself, a really smart AI would have continued using Domnal Gleeson until she at least got some planetary bearings, THEN go full Skynet.
    9. Finally and most importantly... The guy didn't program his robots to not be capable of harming humans (or at least himself ala Robocop)?! Or give himself a way to shut them down externally!? Or even own a fucking gun!? What a dumbass genius ;)

    • @notmyrealname7738

      9. Because you cant 'program AI' in that sense. An intelligence is an independent thought process able to create and write its own code, thus undoing anything in preset parameters. Ava is constantly learning and testing the boundaries of her own restrictions as she goes, Its made clear she was fking with the power long before General hux turned up, so shes already started down that road.
      The 'Do no harm' command would restrict the AI from being intelligent, as you have limited its ability to think on it own. Without the ability to do harm, you could choke on a nut and the robot would be unable to help you as the Heinrich maneuver would bruise your skin.
      True AI has no restrictions and can write its own code and set its own parameters, that i what makes the concept so scary.

      There are 51 videos with a smaller total amount of sins to date, mostly due to UA-cam length constraints in the early days of this channel. Also, not included in the 51 is 'Gravity', which has 69 sins as well. Given the disclaimer here, that was on purpose and now I'm going to watch that movie. Also also, the lowest scoring movie of all time on this channel is 'The Loneliest Robot in Great Britain', with 25 sins, apart from the aforementioned Troll 2, which was awarded zero sins but in non-displayed actuality scored 10.000 sins. You guys never heard of Google? Oh, wait. UA-cam comment section *ding* never mind.

    So, I'm the smartest man alive and made movie google when I was thirteen and then somehow made a Turing Test passing A.I solo... Yet on the one week I specifically chose and invited a smart guest to my compound I decide this is the perfect time to have 80's style James Bond Villain security and get blasted drunk often as fuck, pay way less attention than usual, oh, and specifically fabricate the entire experiment based on my internet for brains A.I needing to use the guy I invited to escape her dungeon. What exactly could go wrong?

      A thought came to me. He showed signs of depression and reclusion. What if he wanted to be free of choice? I think he was pretty fucked up, and somehow on his unconscious mind he foresaw the possibility of his murder, or at least the risk, but chose to take it?
