- Why should you get Clown Loaches? A bottom feeder with an extraordinary pattern, color, and can be paired with almost any tank mate, this fish is known as the Clown Loach. I have been keeping them for over two years myself and they are one of my favorite species that I have kept. In this video I go through my top reasons you may want Clown Loaches as well.

I always really love your tank setups, and clown loaches are my favorite fish. I just upgraded my turtle tank - hes still a baby so this 55 gallon is huge for him. I am thinking about getting some clown loaches for this and upgrade some years later when they get huge.
You won't regret getting them. One of my favorite fish too. I've basically done the same thing by raising them in a 65. Depending on the size you get them, the 55 should be fine to keep them in for few years as they grow pretty slow.
video starts at 1:00 . great video
Yo! Great video, good info. Thanks for all the hard work!!
Thanks man I appreciate that!
Thanks for the info!
You're welcome, I appreciate the comment!
Very interesting
Thanks a lot for the great informative video…i never actually thought of getting some clown loaches unless the vendor just before shiping my order told me that they had 2.5inch sized clown loaches available so i got 4 of them…and later i bought 2 more from my LFS when luckily they had a few…i initially kept them in my 40 gallon and i thought to powerfeed them so that they grew fast so that i could add them to my 300 gallon mostly afrcian cichlid tank which also has a green terror and synspilum vieja, peacocks haps and a few mbunas…they were very happy in the 40 gallon with the more peaceful community fish like the angelfish, geophagus tapajos (2”) and i used to powerfeed them for about 3 times a day…they are around 3 inches now and i couldnt wait to add them to the 300 gallon and i did so and it was concerning for me as all of them were chasing them around…but now things seems to be stable but the green terror(5”) and ethe vieja(6”) always try to pick on them only wen the loaches as a gang swim straight to their face…these guys just swim straight to them and then dodges well too…but it is really concerning for me as i can see very small abrasions which is actually not that much on like 2 or 3 of them…could be because of the occasional nibble by the green terror or the vieja but these guys dont seem to mind that and still swim straight to their face always…But the green terror or the vieja doesnt seem to chase them but its only when the loaches are swimming straight to their faces they try to nib…But all the other fishes dont mind them at all most of the time…I am very much confused about i should leave them in the 300 gallon itself or i shud muv them back to the 40 gallon and wait for a year so that they cud grow about 2-3 more inches more…They seem happy in the 300 gallon as they are always swimming around the whole tank throughout the day…but its the bullies i am worried about…What should i do?
Post your tank
Really great information here! These are one of my favourite bottom dwelling fish…I keep them with my African Cichlids and are a great addition to my tank :)
Thank you! I've always thought that was a cool combo to have together. I took a quick look at your videos and wanted to say your Frontosa are look stunning! I'm jealous of having a group that nice haha
Thank you! They are really fun to watch, really interesting fish in my opinion. :)
Cool, borther.
Great video, what's the blue fish at 3:56 mark please?
I currently have six clown loaches(4 in 55 gallon and 2 in 180 gallon tanks) and want more but the prices on them have skyrocketed so really have to think on it. My oldest is probably going on 7 years and over six inches long. Its colour has faded some but the stripes are still vibrant. Have them housed with a variety of fish including red tail botias, yoyo and several kuhli loaches. Occasional sparring but overall everyone gets along.
Cool to hear that. I've seen the same with prices over the last few years. Especially if they are larger than 2 inches the prices get steep real quick. If you are in the US and depending how you feel about chain stores they can usually be pretty cheap there still. Usually $10 each at Petsmart although pretty small like 1-1.5 inches. You just have to keep in mind that quarantining them is definitely recommended and deworming too.
Can a red tail shark be added to a six clown loach tank?
Hi Connor: I just purchased seven very healthy juvenile clowns yesterday. They are presently in quarantine under observation and should all go well in two to three weeks, they’ll be transferred into a 180 gallon. I’m keeping my fingers crossed while in quarantine or in the 180 gallon, they don’t catch “skinny (wasting) disease”. 🤞 I’ve had a history of this problem and should history repeat, this will be my last purchase.
Glad to hear they are looking healthy. Best of luck with them! I hope to hear back from you in 10 years and when are giants haha!
4:33 where did you get that background?
My fav of all time. Unfortunately as they grow in size their orange and black colors tend to fade.
I agree I love clown loaches too and this is true. My largest (between 5-6 inches) still has their stripes showing solid. I hope it stays like that for as long as possible.
Would 4 Clowns be to many for a 75g tank. With about 8 American cichlids?
They'll be fine when young but at 6+ inches they really should have a 100+ gallon tank. It takes them 3-5+ years to get that size though.
I’ve had one since 1993
How did you manage to keep clown loach and chiclids
Clown loaches actually do good with most Cichlids if there are hiding spots and the Clown Loaches aren't too small.
@@TheAquaticCoder Clown Loach are Asian. They come from Asia. Why the fuck do you put them in a tank with african and hispanic fish ? Asian race fishes wood prefer not to interact with tyrone and julio.
@@moseskongi4746 i have cichlids and clown loaches. Aside from territorial behavior after water changes, they get along well
I have kept clown loaches for many years and every now and then they will stop eating, they will not except any food and I can't understand why, then after 5 or 6 days they start eating again
That's an interesting observation. I've never seen mine do that. I'm glad that yours start eating again. How old / large are your Clown Loaches?
They love to have same food. Dont change their food
Wtf blood parrots with Clown loaches??
Clown loaches can get up to 18+ inches
No.
Your right they can , but not likely in captivity. My biggest is 8 inches now
I just saw that they can live to 40 years. 25 years is nothing.
I hope to have mine that long. From my research 20-25 is the average in captivity but longer is definitely possible.
clown loaches are so prone to disease. They can have great diet, great water and good tank mates. And they will still die very fast.
True, maximum time I had them was almost exactely 1 year. Six gorgeous fish died one at a time due to a itch outbreak even with water treatment. Never again will keep them.
