  • In this video, we will show you how easy it is to hook up an Intex vacuum hose with a standard vacuum head to your Hayward Skimmer. It is super easy to keep your pool clean with very minimal effort and time needed to get the job done fast.
    In addition, we will show you the proper steps to backwash your above-ground pool after you vacuum.
    We have links at the bottom of this description for what we are using in this video. You can always use different brands and lengths of pool vacuum hoses as long as they fit the Hayward vacuum adapter part. Also, you can purchase different styles of vacuum heads to vacuum around the rounded edges.
    The Intex plunger valve is a handy part of connecting the backwash hose.
    Also, check out our link for the Skimmer Socks they are helpful for drawing in even finer pieces of debris into the skimmer that can sometimes get through your skimmer basket.

    So are you actually inside the pool while your vacuuming it out with the pump running? I am ultra scared to be in the pool with the pump running.

      Oh yes, we have done both. The vacuum is not electrically charged. Why are you concerned?

    • @scherylb
      @scherylb Рік тому +1

      @@MoverandShaker The vacuum may not be electrically charged but the pump is. I don't know I read articles that say not to be in the pool while pump is running and others say just the opposite. If a pool is not properly bonded (not GFCI) then anyone in the pool could get electrocuted if something goes wrong. Above ground pools such as Intex and Colemens ect are not bonded.

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  Рік тому

      Our electrical outlet for the pool pump and chlorinator are on a gfci outlet. The electrician we hired punched a hole in our brick wall and installed the gfci outlet to connect directly to one inside of the house outlet. It has a cover on it to protect from rain and it has a reset button. Basically 4 years and no problems at all. We stay in the pool always when the pump is running. We have never been in the pool when the pump wasn't running

    • @scherylb
      @scherylb Рік тому +1

      @@MoverandShaker I understand what you are saying, but bonding and GFCI are two different things, and it seems that a lot of people interchange these terms when they are two totally different things. Bonding will bond the pump, the pool, and even the water. I am glad to hear nothing has happened and I pray nothing will happen. I just thought I would bring it to your attention in case you wanted to look it up for yourself.

      No worries the Intex pumps have to run 6 to 8 hours a day so when would people get in their pools if the had to keep turning off their pump all the time. It's absolutely safe. 💯

    We have an intex above ground pool too with the salt water, have you ever had to Adjust your alkalinity or ph? Also have you ever shocked your pool?

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  Рік тому

      Yes of course to both. Excessive rain can cause these issues but having to do the extras is rare. We do periodically test the water and if anything would be out of sync, we are going to adjust it.

      We use the strainer hole plugs that came with the pool or you can purchase them here. amzn.to/44bWdV9 In addition, we keep the strainer hole baskets on there that came with the pool, but they aren't required it's just safer if you have kids that like to play with the things you don't want to lose water. Of course, we placed the strainer hole plugs on the outside also but those were not necessary. We just thought they looked better.

    Love the videos. We are getting ready to purchase an Intex 24x12x52. I've been watching all your videos so that we can get everything done at initial install, from the saltwater system to the skimmer to the 16" filter. I know that you say you rinse off the pool meticulously, so I have 3 questions. 1) what are you rinsing? 2) with a power washer? 3) do you think it would be beneficial for us to spray coatings of a rust inhibitor like rusoleum on the metal frame before we assemble the pool.

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  8 місяців тому

      We are rinsing the saltwater at the end of the day from the entire pool with a hose only. Basically a fresh water wash down. Of course, do not use.
      Well water. Yes, I definitely think if you have the patience to spray rust inhibitor on the metal frame before you install it in by all means, do that. It wasn't until last summer late that we noticed some rust. We Immediately took to action and applied several remedies. So we really like your idea. Focus where the connectors and also at the bottom of each rail where it will meet the ground.

      @MoverandShaker Thanks for taking the time to answer. I do have another question. When you did the spot treatment for the very small rust spots you found, did you have to do a lot of surface prep and sand down to bare metal, or were you able to apply the rusoleum over the existing finish?

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  8 місяців тому

      @user-ym3cn7ny9o used a metal brush, and did a 2 step application of remover plus the rustoleum treatment with a qtip. It was just mainly around the supports near the skimmer. We used to have an intex skimmer and did a lot of splashing around that skimmer doing maintenance. Once we switch to the hayward, we weren't constantly throwing water up around those support poles.

      Yes, we did, it was at least a couple of inches. Of course, we did it at the beginning of last season So for installation, it was already where we needed it to be installed And then, when we filled it back up, it goes up past the opening.

    Hayward sells sand filter kits, I upgraded my Intex pump to Hayward. I have a 24 x 52inch Ultra frame pool. The intex pumps hp isn't strong enough for the size pools they sale them with they are only 0.75hp vs the Hayward matrix pump which is 1.5hp. My water turnover rate is much better and it takes less time to run the pump for a cleaner pool. Not saying your pool is unclean, it actually looks perfect, crystal clear, great job by the way. With the Hayward skimmer you don't need any extra fittings for hose connectors. The hayward hoses fit the ends of the shut off valves that come with the pool. It also fits directly to the skimmer. Just in case you decide to upgrade your sand filter and motor, I think it's called the Matrix 1.5hp with a 16 or 18inch sand filter kit. It comes with everything even the platform to sit the motor and sand filter on. Great video sir... Cutting that liner to put the skimmer on that pool was the best decision ever made

      The only thing I don't like about the stick vac is that you have to constantly have your neck almost 90 degrees facing in the water because it's so short as opposed to the longer pole with the hose. That can get tiring on your neck. We only use that every now and then for quick spot clean ups. I hope you have a great summer as well!
