INTEX POOL CLEANER ( VACUUM ) Does the Intex Pool Cleaner really work? We put it to the test

  • We put the The Intex Pool Cleaner a.k.a. pool vacuum to the test to see if it really works. It was our second time using it so we were still in the learning stages. Although we keep a fairly clean pool already, it did the job in picking up the debris at the bottom of the pool which included leaves, pine straw, sediment, algae etc...
    INTEX AUTOMATIC POOL CLEANER
    amzn.to/3qerLWq
    The Pros -
    I. It definetly picks debris up off the bottom of the pool.
    2. The jets are good at blowing debris as it moves into one area for bulk pick up.
    3. It is easy to set up, just turn off the pump remove the intake discharge cap and screw it on, drop the vacuum first into the pool and feed the hose in a little at a time.
    The Cons -
    1. Sometimes it stops and for some reason just doesn't get moving again. You don't always feel like you can let it go without checking on it.
    2. Sometimes when you are removing the vacuum debris can come out of the vacuum if you don't remove a certain way and we never figured it out the correct way to remove it fast enough.
    3. This vacuum is for Intex above ground pools only.
    4. It takes up some room for storage, The hoses are long and the cleaner is a little heavy so it takes about 2 to 3 feet of height and width of storage space.

    I wanted to leave a comment here for "bestway" owners, i have a bestway and i purchased this pump, it WILL connect to the default outlet that the pool comes with (the 1.25" one) but the flowrate on the pump mine came with is only 800gal, and this needs 1600 so you'll need to upgrade your pump to get it to work :)

    A couple of questions: 1- we have an area that the vacuum doesn’t like to go to. Any ideas why? And 2- when we pick it up to take out out of the pool there is stuff trapped in it (not under the mesh I don’t think?) and it flows back into the pool. Any way to avoid that?

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  2 роки тому

      Can't explain why the vacuum will not go in certain places the pool may be a little unlevel or divets in the liner. The only thing I may suggest when pulling out the vacuum cleaner is put a net underneath of it to try to catch as much debris possible that's the only way we could get it out all at 1 time. We weren't happy with ours over time, we felt manusl vacuuming works much better so it is good to have options. We have a new portable vacuum that we will be doing video on but we have since gotten rid of the Intex Pool Cleaner.

      We were using the same hose that comes with that Pool Cleaner that you are using probably. So it comes with multiple sections for lengths up to 24 feet so if your pool is only 18ft like our pool you only need enough of the sections to stretch across the pool. You may just have too many sections attached.

    What should the pump setting be on because when mines is on filter it doesn't work well But when I change settings to recirculation it works better still not well well... Am I doing something wrong?

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  2 роки тому

      We have never used recirculate ever. I would double check and make sure everything is snug on all of your connections. Do you have the strainer hold plug inserted into the #2 slot on the inside of the pool? I know that helps us improve suction on the skimmer for better filtration. Also make sure you have backwashed. That can affect the pumps performance. YOu also want to make sure your pump is sufficient enough for your size pool.

    I have to ask… I have a stick vac for my pool but I was looking into getting this to clean the bugs out… Is it really worth it?
    I have a 12 inch intex sand pump which pushes the minimum requirement for this vacuum.

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  3 роки тому

      We did purchase one and use it a few times, but we personally felt the stick vac and the deluxe maintenance vac kit did a much better and thorough job because you could pin point where you need it. It does do good for any sand you may have on the bottom of the liner but bugs...not for us. We rely on our skimmer for bugs. We put a stocking around our skimmer basket too so that whatever goes through that basket does not go through it. LOL A lot of times we jump in and use a net and just go round and round for five minutes to get any surface stuff and then we are good to go. The rest is taken care of every couple of days just doing general vacuuming. I don't think the vacuum is going to do it's best job with the minimum requirement pump.

    I bought this unit for my Coleman/Bestway 22 foot pool and it did work with my pool/pump, however it would stop about every 30 seconds. I would have to take it out and clean the filter because it would get clogged and the unit would stop. I cleaned the filter then it would run again. I like the vacuum, but if I kept it I really don't want to clean it every 5 minutes.

    • @MoverandShaker

      Yes -The Intex Cleaner does stop and seems to act like it's thinking sometimes for about 30 seconds like you said but then keeps moving again. We never had it clogged to the point where it stopped. We were impressed with the silt it picked up and pinestraw on the bottom of the pool. Overall we decided to continue to use the Intex Deluxe Maintenance Vacuum kit because you can pinpoint quickly where you want to pick up and then if you want to vacuum more thoroughly then you can continue to do the rest. We think it's just overall faster in the long run. Of course you would be giving up convenience.

    Hi, thanks for these videos. I got my deluxe skimmer up and running following your video on that! It doesn't seem to suck the debris from across the pool, but when stuff is near the skimmer it definitely gets it so it should be a help when I can't be out there skimming the pool. I got a free intex auto vacuum from Facebook so I am going to see if all the pieces are there and try that next from your video. I just also ordered the intex deluxe maintenance kit in case the auto vac doesn't work well. You said in one of the comments you liked that vacuum as well? The intex vacuum I have now requires hooking the hose up so it's a bit of a pain. the deluxe uses the filter so hopefully that will help. I get a lot of debris because I have a lot of trees. Just wondering if you also liked your vacuum that came in the deluxe maintenance kit. Sorry for the long post :(

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  2 роки тому

      Yes for 3 years, the Deluxe maintenance kit has been our number one choice to vacuum our pool and recently last season we found out that if you are in the pool twirling a poolnet around in a circle it will bring everything to a centerpoint and then you can just vacuum it up quickly from the bottom. This year we haven't opened our pool just yet because the weather has been raining and 56. We found that the automatic pool cleaner was just OK if you need to verify if you have all the parts go on to the intex website find the same pool cleaner and you can download the manual then you'll be able to verify that. Make sure you have your black strainer hole plug in the opposite hole next to the strainer and also make sure the skimmers blue top is floating slighy where the water passes over it.

We actually ended up selling ours because honestly we can get more done faster and looking better in about 15 minutes, doing it manually with either the Intex handheld vacuum amzn.to/3v5ThqU or the Intex Delux Maintenance Kit amzn.to/2Tcprnj seen here on Amazon although prices are high right now on everything still because of COVID. • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  3 роки тому

      Occasionally you do need to make sure the strainer basket gets cleaned out but making sure there is no aIr in the line is important, having the required pump gph to move that cleaner is important and if you have any big wrinkles in the bottom of the liner could be am issue. I will be honest. Manually is faster and more thorough. We alternate the Intex deluxe maintenance kit vac and the hand held rechargeable Intex vac. We used Aqua Quartz sand brand. For our Intex Sand Filter Pump Intex recommends to use No. 20 Silica Sand or Glass Sand with a particle size range of 0.45 to 0.85 and a uniformity coefficient less than 1.75 This is the one that we used on this link. amzn.to/3wXjp8Bamzn.to/3wXjp8B

      It's always good after any vacuuming to backwash a pump because the residual in this particular case that may fall back into the pool on removal of the cleaner goes in the sand filter. In my description I mentioned that as a con because we haven't quite mastered being able to pull the vacuum cleaner completely out of the pool without some residual trash falling back into the pool we can't be fast enough. lol

      For some reason and I have no idea why I just saw your comment even though we respond to comments daily so I apologize. We don't use chemicals in our pool anymore it's a salt water pool so the salt water chlorinator makes chlorine and we clean our pool daily. It's kind of like exercise for us and put us in a zone but at the same time were in the pool cleaning and having fun. So overall The Secret to the water is just keeping up with anything that you need to clean and a salt water system that makes it maintenance free and I can't tell you how much money we have saved not having to buy all kinds of chemicals to struggle to keep the pool balanced. From now on it just stays balanced

    I bought one and at first it runs and within minutes it has stopped. So I take out and look to see if needs cleaning or if clogged up. Nothing. I put back in pool, runs for a minute then stops. Any suggestions?! I love it when it does move but then it just stops. Also when I pull it out some of the debris falls back into the pool.

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  4 роки тому +1

      That sounds pretty normal to me. It has a mind of it's own. It can sit there a few minutes and then just start running out of nowhere. You just have to let it do it's thing. It really doesn't have a normalized pattern, it goes in a many different directions over a long period of time. Just when you think it's completely stopped it will start moving again. We also could never figure out how you prevent the debris from falling back into the pool no matter how you pull it out. It is a science we haven't learned just yet either. Since yours is so new I am not positive yours has any problem yet. It may just take a little more time for you to get used to everything or do some research. That Intex pool cleaner was our first pool cleaner purchase, we have since tried others and we still like the one that is not automatic, which is the deluxe maintenance kit. That thing picks up everything, quickly and the only drawback is, you have to do the work but it doesn't take long but I wouldn't give up just yet. I am curious what size pump you have?

      I am not sure about the Intex cart ridge pumps connections even being applicable to fit and or even run the Intex pool cleaner or not. Intex recommends a filter pump with a flow rate of between 1600 to 3500 gallons per hour. A few owners have commented that anything lower in GPH might be too small to power the Intex pool cleaner. You may want to think about the Deluxe Maintenance Kit doing it manually. It would be faster. My only suggestion is go on Intex download the Adobe version manual on the product page of the Intex Pool cleaner if you don't already own one see if there are set up instructions and specifications in the cleaner's manual for the cartridge filter pump set up or not. After owning one, I would think you'd want and definitely need a more powerful pump to run this cleaner effectively.

It seems like it makes sense! I really would suggest looking for someone doing an video that has the same model cartridge filter pump as you do and see what set up.

      You are exactly spot on. It did pick up a lot of stuff including pine straw and large chunks of tree debris however it can start and stop without warning and so essentially you have to babysit it more or less, but every vac has its pros and con's one of my biggest issues with this particular model was it was kind of heavy and awkward and hard to handle. Ultimately, we did a workaround with the hose connections to make it more effective, but I have forgotten what that was because we have experimented with three other vacs already since this one.

      We don't have a video just yet of winterizing the pool, however we purchased a very high quality cover off of Amazon and then the Saran Wrap style pool wrap and purchased what is referred to as a Pool Pillow which elevates the cover in the center to prevent freezing then you use the included cable with the pool cover and tighten up the cover with the included ratchet locking mechanism and then you wrap your pool a few times around the cover and the pool to get a snug air tight seal. You can see a picture of it wrapped in our original set up pool video at the very end of the video. We also added Winterizing kit which many companies make these products. It ensures a cleaner pool upon opening. I have seen a few pool closing videos online where people live in colder places than we do and we followed those instructions. We will do one this year for sure.

      Monitor and balance pH and Total Alkalinity levels.

When we first get in the pool we always roam around the sides and loosen up anything touching the pool or around the edges and skim it up with a small net. @MoverandShaker  2 роки тому +1

      I am sorry I am not really sure. I can only tell you that while we owned it we had one single wrinkle and it didn't make that much of a difference in terms of movement or it's ability to move. Overall, we felt like it just didn't move that much or that often as we expected. I guess if you don't mind waiting hours for it but we like to get things done so we stick to our cordless and our deluxe maintenance vac. It's just faster for us to pinpoint the dirt and get it up right then.

      we only let it run for about 2 hrs, as we don't have that much debris. I guess you could but the cleaner really works best with any thing considered as dirt or debris is basically at the bottom of the pool undisturbed for a certain length of time so it can roam around and do it's thing. If anyone were to be in the pool at the same time moving all of that I can't see that it would do a great job. I can't seen any reason you absolutely can't but I would think it would be better before or after pool time.

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  4 роки тому

      That cleaner requires a filter pump with a flow rate between 1,600 - 3,500 gph. Make sure you meet those requirements. Next, you have to place the cleaner in slowly so that the hose fills up with water. You can't have any air in the line. You will be grabbing the end of that hose and hooking it up to the nozzle underwater so no air gets in. You need all the water pressure to push that thing around. It does have a tendancy to stop and think sometimes but eventually it will keep moving around. I have heard it can get stuck and you kinda wake it up by tugging on it but I have never had that happen personally.
