    The two busts and the cathedral, the surface imperfection at the lower level is because you put it directly on the plate, you're correct to put a hole at the bottom and top, but the hole at the bottom is blocked by the build plate doing nothing causing the hollow print to make a suction cup when pulled and when it comes down it's pushing the resin into the cavity with nowhere to go but to push out on the walls causing what they call blooming. You need to either raise the print on supports so the hole at the bottom is not blocked or if you want to print directly on the plate you need to relocate the bottom hole to a side on the lowest part of the print so that resin/air can drain during the print.

    Note for safety: the carbon filter does not help with dangerous fumes, it's really only for reducing the odor. For extra safety, I'd recommend either adding an active exhaust to the premade port on the lid or buy/make a fume hood to go around the printer entirely. Those carbon filters are really misleading so take this as a word of caution, don't trust them to keep you safe

      If I put the printer inside a tent and print with it, is it okay to leave it alone for a day after the print is done and it's OK, or should it have a vent going to the outside?

    • @partytranimal6293
      @partytranimal6293 2 місяці тому +3

      @@ashouaxiong1404 It's best to have ventilation. The resin is always letting off fumes so whether it's printing or not, you're still gonna get fumes. The agitation of the print bed into the vat is what lets off more fumes than stagnant. If you just put a tent over it, you're not doing much more than just using the printer normally. If a fume hood is out of the question, an unoccupied room with a fan in the window set to exhaust will work, just give it a bit more time to air out before entering. Liquid resin is by no means "extremely dangerous," but it's still not good for you to breath. It's a fun hobby, but like most larger scale hobbies, you really want to have your own space for it. It's messy, it's expensive and it's time consuming. I'm assuming you're thinking about getting into the hobby, so here's some stuff you're gonna wanna look into:
      • A computer with decent graphics. Nothing crazy but working with 3D models can be taxing on lower end machines.
      • An ultrasonic cleaner. Not strictly necessary but really improves the final product.
      • A UV light box. Again, not necessary but weather can be unpredictable and the sun isn't always gonna be out when you need it to be and the box can give an even distribution of UV around your piece for faster/better curing. Light boxes can be bought (for quality) or homemade (for budget).
      • Replacement vat film. You are almost certainly gonna scratch the clear plastic film on your resin vat and/or it'll just need replacing after a while.
      Beyond those things, you're gonna want a stockpile of gloves, masks, 90% or above isopropyl alcohol and ample amounts of working space.
      It's a much more intensive process than filament printing. From the slicer to the final product, you're probably gonna spend more time on your resin prints than your filament prints. There's more things to worry about and more steps that require your attention. In my experience, a failed resin print feels worse than a failed filament print. The cleanup of a failed resin print is usually pretty stressful. One wrong move and you've ruined your vat film. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but it's not always a cake walk. Just know what you're getting into before sinking probably over a grand into it. Hope any of this is useful to you and good luck with your future endeavors

    Vlad, do you happen to know if the build plate from Saturn 3 will fit onto Saturn 2's arm interface ? I'm a big fan of the 4 bolt leveling interface, and honestly, this is the only feature I'm excited about on this printer over Saturn 2 that I already own.

  • @asordidreality
    @asordidreality 6 місяців тому +3

    Did anybody else's build plate come with little rubber caps on the bolts? The four bolts that hold the bracket to the plate had four rubber caps, and I figured they were supposed to be there. I would recommend removing them if your build plate has them. I had several successful test prints, so I decided to print something else, but at about 80 percent I happened to notice one side of the model was still being built, but the other side of the plate didn't have anything on it. When I opened it I found one of those little rubber caps had fallen into the resin tray and so the build plate was smashing it against the plastic tray so it wasn't level. The resin tray got a little dent in it, so it's ruined. The model was so stuck to one side of the build plate that I scratched the brand new plate. And the LCD screen has a small smudge that won't go away, right where the rubber piece was being smashed.
    So two lessons I guess, remove those rubber caps if the bolts have them, and also check the resin for debris before you print.... I am in the process of working with customer service, so hopefully this can all be resolved. And maybe someone else can learn what I figured out. If anyone reads this who has an Elegoo Saturn 3 ultra haha. I guess other build plates might have them... I'm not sure, and surely no expert!!
    I do have to say I am super anxious, because if I can get this machine fixed/replaced I will be printing like a newspaper press! The quality and speed of the few builds I was able to do were AMAZING!! I have so many things I want to make!!

      Well, after a week and $90 for a new resin tray, because it's not covered by the warranty, and about 12 failed prints later.... I'm not so enthused about this machine. I might recommend looking at other brands... I'm going to try a few more days, and a few more tips, but I am probably going to end up fighting to return it, or eat almost $1000... Not happy with Elegoo.

    Had to sub and also a thumbs up for how detail your reviews are. I currently own the Ender 3 Neo printer and am doing my research for a 3D Resin printer. There are two fans on the back of this resin printer are they both to expel the fumes from within the enclosure thru the usb carbon filters ? Thank you for your time and sharing the information.

    • @steveh8724
      @steveh8724 6 місяців тому

      No, the fans on the back are to circulate air from the working area within the printer base itself that houses all the electronics. They do not move air from within the print space. That is done by the optional fan outlet on the back of the clear smoke grey enclosure cover. The carbon filter towers merely circulate the air within the enclosure through the contained activated carbon filter material. Other reviewers have questioned whether the carbon filters really do much. I don't have one of these so I can't comment.

      I just got mine, and its a valid question. Since the four bolts completely lock it in place all you're essentially doing is removing it from the frame. As he stated in the video, it's only one time. It can become loose over time though and you might need to level it a few times per year if you print frequently.

    Nice video, as always, thank you :) But please don't wear the gloves from the Tool Kit (these are latex gloves, not nitrile) and also don't scrape the vat with anything other than soft silicone (!) spatula. Especially not with the plastic spatula or paper! You also said, that the bottom (dark grey) part is "all plastic", but according to Elegoo it should be an "all metal body". Can you confirm that?

    32:55 Horrible safety protocol. Gloves on both hands when handling a resin car filled with resin. There will be splashes and a thin film of resin all along the side wall, and you definitely got some on your thumb.
    Do not take small exposures for granted. These all add up, and if you continue like this, you're going to develop allergies to the resin, which may prevent you from even getting near it.
    The printer should be in a negative pressure environment (grow-tent, etc) if indoors and vented to the outside. Especially if you have pets or children in the house.
    Your prints are deformed because you've hollowed them out, but you haven't created ventilation holes in the prints, and you've basically created giant suction cups with your models. The suction can be so strong that it will pull the printer out of alignment and deform the print. If the item is small enough and vent holes would ruin the look, just go solid. Otherwise, put vent holes in the print where they will be obscured, or easily covered by green putty and painted.
    But my dude, be more careful with the resin.
