    3:40 actually the number of turns is based on the height of the door and the two drums the cable rides on. The springs are sized based on the wight of the door. A 10' tall door with standard drums is usually 42 quarter turns or 10.5 full turns. Consider if the door lifted with only 5 turns the door would only go up halfway, in which case you would need larger drums or different springs which you could wind more.

    Those springs are no joke. I took woodworking classes at a local community college and one of the instructors had been a woodworker/instructor for decades. The only major injury he ever had in his life was losing the tip of his thumb to a garage door spring. They are not to be trifled with.

    these types of garage doors are so easy to install that the expenses on having "professionals" install is not worth it, ive spent about 4 hours installing my own garage door, including all the electronics. the finishing cable are plugged into a normal wall socket making it even easier , and allow you to install the motor yourself, without an electrician. The only downdraft, on DIY, is that you need to make your own frameing around the garage door.
    But this is still an awsome video, keep up the good work!

      I beg to differ, rolltop doors are usually better for workspaces/warehouses and are incredibly easy to use. The kind of garage door he used here is more of a "house garage" door. The ones where I work are even motorized too. Most likely replaced an expensive rolltop door installation with a cheap home door.

    • @dan__________________
      @dan__________________ Рік тому +2

      @@itz_lexiii_ I beg to differ. I work a lot around large commercial buildings. Commercial grade panel doors are the only doors that are installed in my area because of the cold climate and the fact that they are insulated. The old worn out door he had installed could have been replaced by another high quality rolltop doors but rolltop doors are not insulated which is why he did the sound test in the video. So does a new insulated quality panel door add value to the building over an old worn out cheap rolltop door? Absolutely yes.

  • @jakecarter2414
    @jakecarter2414 Рік тому +2

    And they didn't insulate inside the header they just built so putting up that nice insulated garage door is pretty much worth nothing now! You can still fix that tho by drilling holes in the header and shooting spray foam inside of it. Or blowing cellulose in it.

    • @craftedworkshop

  • @dexl9440

    If a DIY’er would have been doing this install they probably would have been stumped 🤣 for those that missed it this went from outside hook up bottom brackets( normal for low headroom) to inside hook up so that the jackshaft op could work. Different bottom brackets and the springs flipped around. Typical homeowner wouldn’t have had both types of brackets or knowledge to do so😉 that is one of the best doors and opener on the market, most can’t afford that door

      Agree but that can be said about a lot of things. I replaced the springs on my insulated garage door, even though I'd never done it before. Just have a decent understanding how they work and a healthy respect for springs under tension and it's no more dangerous than anything else woodworkers do on a daily basis. People get into trouble when they don't understand the force necessary to easily raise something as heavy as a garage door. Same thing with front end coil springs. If you don't control the release of tension, they can take you out.
