I met Tom Hanks at a recording of Facts of Life, tv show. He was so Awesome! Gave me and my friend an autograph and came on our school bus with us and we had so much fun with him for a while.
Tom Hanks can never hurt a movie since he is "outstanding in all he does no matter what. That's why with his genuine humor and down to earth attitude, we can't help wanting to see more of him.
I remember when Philadelphia came out in the theatres. Tom took a hit from a lot of people, for playing that part. But he was the only one who could have played it.
My father´s favorite actor...who became my brother´s favorite actor...and later on...my own favorite....we tip our hats to you...the one and only...Tom Hanks
From comedy to drama, Tom Hanks is everything an actor is supposed to be.. I've always said that great acting is when the actor takes a scene and makes the audience feel like it's really happening and not just reading from a script. Tom had the ability to do that. A well deserved honor.
Well said. I was raised on the greats from my dad Grant,Flynn,Tracy,Fonda, Stewart,Peck, and then when I was a teenager in the 70's with George C.Scott, Newman,Redford,Eastwood,Wayne, Connery,Nicholson,Brando...you aren't gonna top those guys, but yeah he has an excellent body of work. When I first saw him I wasn't impressed,. I was dead wrong. His face and eyes are so expressive in a moving scene...doesn't have to say a thing. That's when you have a Hell of an Actor.
Such a class act. He was genuinely in awe of all the performers. He was thankful, and he was the first to stand in applause! He was being celebrated on that occasion, but it felt like he was just a member of the audience, and in humility, gave a standing ovation for all the performances. Truly, not only talent, but also a good heart.
There is no more an actor so more deserving than him. Tom Hanks is the essence of acting. He is the best actor by far. The amazing characters he gets to play. The way he portrays them is amazing.
I must've watched all of his movies. I can't say that about every actor out there. You just know if Tom Hanks is in it..it must be good. He deserves every accolade and appreciation for his craft. And now he is in Elvis. looking forward to seeing that soon.
I was on a tour of Washington years ago. We went into the Kennedy Center and I got to stand in that room. It gave me chills just thinking about all the wonderful things that took place there. Like this salute to Tom.
This is the best homage I had the privilege to watch, and the most deserving. I cried like The TOM Hanks was my significant-other. Maybe because I grew up watching all his movies which are amongst my favorites. I admire him as a good person and as an artist par excellence.
What amazes me about Mr Hanks is his humility in the light of being the epitome of iconic. America loves him for his talent and his charm. I am among his biggest fans. It’s just my opinion but I found the performances most fitting and so wholesome. Kudos to Martin Short as well. How special to mention Rita Wilson. Touching indeed. Thank you.
I love how in awe he is of the service members who performed on his behalf. he is a stand up guy. It would of been really cool to not only perform for him, but also the President.
Love this man! If I met this man, I would not need anything more in this world. His work is so good it affects us all. Does he know how much he affects others with his talent and awesomeness!!! Thanks so much for helping me go on!\
Tom is one of the ONLY actors out there that can really make you feel what each character is going through. He plays the dramatic actors so well, its amazing!
Lauren Poland From what everyone who has met Tom Hanks or is a personal friend of his say that the best attribute which defines Tom is his big heart, empathy for his fellow man, and his true morality.
absolutely. the roles he takes on are so diverse but he just has a way to make you relate to every character he has ever played. I will forever be a fan.🌹
I am so GLAD ..... that I live at a time when I can enjoy EVERYTHING this man does. I wanted my mom to see his new movie "Forrest Gump"... but as she was coming to the end of her life, she said she just didn't have the strength. "Tell me the story." So I did. And she wept and laughed along. It was the last story she heard....and she LOVED it. Thank you for that wonderful memory, Mr. Hanks.
Mc Kenna oh so sweet. My condolences to you on the loss of your mom. I lost my mom 2 years ago. I was with her when she died and I too told her a story too but it was about her. In later years of her life she wanted me to tell her a story but I did not know any and could not create one. Not until the day she died. Thank you for sharing this because it makes me glad to know that I am not odd for what I did.
Thank you so much for sharing your story💕 My mom is from a generation in my country that never really had a chance to go to the cinema all that much... As an elder she got to see Forrest Gump though and rarely have I seen her as happy as she did viewing that magical movie❤️ Now she's fully institutionalized due to dementia and I'm so glad we had that night of movie magic😍.
This admittedly isn't directly related, but I still think speaks very well of Tom Hanks, and your comment reminded me of it... as much as I enjoyed Robert Zemeckis' film "Flight", it came out I believe Christmas of 2015, starring Denzel Washington as a commercial airline pilot who pulls off an unprecedented emergency landing with a faulty plane saving the lives of most of the passengers and crew, but the subsequent attention quickly shows he's got some major skeletons in his closet, and was high and drunk while working, meaning he can go to jail for manslaughter for the handful of casualties. Denzel did a very fine job in the role, just as I'd expect him to. But especially considering it was Zemeckis who directed it, who's already worked with Hanks a number of times, I couldn't help but wonder if he was cast, it could've been a truly legendary performance. He finally played a sort of 'bad guy' character in "Road To Perdition" in that he was a mob hit man, but he was still basically the protagonist of the story. I'd really love to see him go to even a more extreme of a gray area place in a role, and it seemed like "Flight" could've been perfect for that.
Tom Hanks is so very deserving of this lovely recognition. No one better. No one finer than Tom Hanks… Tom Hanks is our American Hero of heart and soul..Beautiful celebration.
He deserves that and more in the near and far future to come. Thanks Mr. Hanks for all the joy and happiness you have brought into millions of people lives.
I still remember Bosom buddies from my youth. (well I was in my twenties after the Army) and I could not believe how funny this man was. God Bless, Tom, Mr. Hanks, on being one of the most incredible men I've ever seen on the screen.
I dont think there is any performance tom did or movie that i didnt like. Castaway, sleepless in Seattle, splash, list goes on....he deserves this award with .hes a one of a kind actor of this century❤❤❤love you tom😅😅😅😊😊😊
I’ve seen Tom in the Toy Story series, Polar Express, the Terminal, Turner & Hooch, the new Pinocchio, Big, Forrest Gump, A League of their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, Splash, Saving Mr Banks and You Got Mail
Why is it that Tom´s not crying on the screen but we in front of it do? Is it because his mimic alone expresses the feeling words can not describe and trigger ourselfs? An outstanding actor, an exceptional career in this business! THANKS OM!
Wow, I didn't know where Martin was going with that last number, but what show stopper. Great and fitting tribute to one of the finest American artists of any generation.
I thought that Peter Scolari was going to be the big star! That's the essence of Tom Hanks. He macks everyone around him better than they are! Thanks, Om.
I was in my very early teens when Bosom Buddies came out. I was a fan from the very first episode. What really made me sit up and take notice of him as an actor, though, was his role in Big. You could see the little boy looking out from the eyes of this grown up body and it was absolutely mesmerizing to watch. Such a funny and genuinely nice guy.
What a great tribute to a great actor and a great man.. Once again, the Obamas honor another great man by attending... Without taking away anything from Tom, I think it's really nice that the president and his wife once again show their respect for a much loved citizen by attending a tribute in his honor... And I'm proud that Martin Short is a fellow Canadian and did such an awesome job!!!
I was “introduced” to Tom Hanks when he was in Bosom Buddies. I loved that show. It didn’t last too long…the writers. I was so excited when he started doing movies. Have you been alive very long? The most beloved actor of all time is probably still James Stewart. (My question is genuinely curious as you said Tom Hanks is the most beloved actor in *your* lifetime.)
I would say he's not the GREATEST actor, but has been in more movies that i've loved than any other actor. Anyway you put it though, he's a national treasure
I love the movie “That Thing You Do”! I’ve watched it well over 20 times…thank God for Blu-Ray!! I will watch it another 20 times and probably more than that. For me it’s a “feel good” movie. You can’t watch it and feel bad!! Thank you Mr Hanks
I'm not being allowed to edit the below comment, so I'll do it here. My baby sister was tormentor not the least bit interested in things I loved. So turning on water to get me to have to Pee or asking if I was crying yet amused her. It was befire remotes. After their arrival she'd just turn off what I was enjoying.
Mrs H 🇬🇧 ... Tom Hanks .... What a Fanbloodytastic actor .... He brought to life so many stories.. I Salute him for his kindness, Morals & Ethics.... He's awesome....Thank you Tom for being YOU ...❤🇬🇧
I met Tom Hanks at a recording of Facts of Life, tv show. He was so Awesome! Gave me and my friend an autograph and came on our school bus with us and we had so much fun with him for a while.
Tom is without question one of the greatest and most loved actors of all time ❤ love from Canada 🇨🇦❤
There is no actor past or present that comes close to Tom Hanks. He epitomizes perfection...Congratulations!!
A man with morals, ethics, and kindness. Salute to you, Mr. Hanks!
Thank you, Tom Hanks for being not only a good actor but good honest human being and role model.
Speechless, just speechless. Tom Hanks deserved every moment of that.
We must protect Tom Hanks at all costs. I don't know how he didn't cry all through this.
My father´s favorite actor...who became my brother´s favorite actor...and later on...my own favorite....we tip our hats to you...the one and only...Tom Hanks
Tom is one of the few modern day actors, who would have been a legend in the 40's 50's and 60's
I can't imagine being so deeply loved by so many people.
From comedy to drama, Tom Hanks is everything an actor is supposed to be.. I've always said that great acting is when the actor takes a scene and makes the audience feel like it's really happening and not just reading from a script. Tom had the ability to do that. A well deserved honor.

Had the pleasure of meeting him a few years back one of the most humblest people I've ever met. Incredibly down to earth and so nice
It looked to me as if he wanted to go down on stage and join them as well. What a great man
What an amazing evening Bravo... let's share this with friends and family.. May it kast forever ❤
There is no more an actor so more deserving than him. Tom Hanks is the essence of acting. He is the best actor by far. The amazing characters he gets to play. The way he portrays them is amazing.
Martin Short is incredible at giving homage to others. Such a humble, generous and good person.
Martin Short is a National Treasure for U.S and Canada LOVE HIM FOREVER
I miss the days when we had a president who supported the arts and were cool
Exactly. Trump never attended this or the Correspondence Dinner. First time that happened. The President always went.
This is by far the best finale ever and for the most wonderful person ever.
I've been a total fan of his since Bosom Buddies days, and he never disappoints, on stage or off.
Who knew when Bosom Buddies was airing, he’d be lauded like this.
This is, by far, THE BEST TRIBUTE ever given to a LEGEND!!!
Love watching Tom and Rita's genuine reaction to everything
Tom Hanks is this era’s Jimmy Stewart, which is about the highest accolade that can be given to an actor.
Wow. Your opinion sucks
@@mikerichmond9086 yours does.
This is accurate !
I think he's greater.
I must've watched all of his movies. I can't say that about every actor out there. You just know if Tom Hanks is in it..it must be good. He deserves every accolade and appreciation for his craft. And now he is in Elvis. looking forward to seeing that soon.
Oh my God. His talent was never doubted. He just naturally blends into every role he plays ❤❤
The way we get to see & hear our stories are the movies....what a privilege to know this fine actor!!!!!
That little boy will talk about this the rest of his life! Great job!
Tom Hanks even made a grown man cry real tears when he was saved from that boat and the nurse was taking care of him! Love this man!
Tom Hanks is truly the last of the great actors. Unbelievable talent and what he has done in the movies will not be sadly seen again.

True legend. 5 movies with Spielberg is a proof that Tom is one of the finest actors of our time. God bless.
I came here from the Terminal. I’ve seen better from Tom and I expected more considering Steven is the director

That speech in Cast Away "I have ice in my glass" is awesome. And most recently the Captain Phillips scene where he is crying is just incredible.
I thought it was for a joke at first but then it made total sense to play that song for Tom. Dude is THE national treasure of America for actors
I love all his movies and he is a great humanitarian
