Not just manage, but master, and not in an “it’s all about me” kind of way, but in a way, as Will Smith said, I a way that lets everyone else be the star and too succeed/win. No one better. And that includes Parkinson.

They dont seem to realize that politics should have NO place anywhere near chat shows which is why Graham is the best, it gets a little political occasionally i.e the only thing Graham did that I disagree with is when he brought the lying warmongerer Hitlery Rotten Cunton on but aside from that I think the guy is awesome

My mother got to know Graham Norton as he did that circuit a lot in his younger days. She always said he was the nicest of them all. Always had time to chat to people, really down to earth and funny. She reckons he literally had not changed one bit with his fame. Aside from this I honestly believe he is the greatest late night talkshow host. He sweaps all others, past and present, under the carpet. A true TV legend. Well deserved Mr Norton.

In America we're used to entertainers / celebrities coming on to plug a project and they don't even stay past their segment! By comparison; Graham's program is basically a cocktail party where everyone sits on the same couch, regardless of their level of fame, to share stories and react genuinely to bits happening in real time, all guided so charmingly and deftly by Graham Norton, whose craft at all of this is so inviting and warm and intoxicating! Johnny Carson may be our Gold Standard, but Graham is a bit more like Dean Martin! His show is unpredictable, sometimes messy, but always the party you'd like to be at most! ALL awards are deserved for this sweet and lovely guy!

    • @krashd
      @krashd 7 років тому +14

Us shows are about plugging, advertising or supporting something first and foremost. The BBC being funded by we license payers instead of any for-profit organisation has some of the most stringent anti-advertising policies so if you want to plug something you have to find a creative way to do it. If other UK advertiser-funded networks have chat shows, many exactly the same as US shows, and the BBC wants to compete with them then it has to find a creative way to do it so Graham Norton (and to a lesser extent Jonathan Ross) were the BBC coming up with a way to have a chat show of their own and let Hollywood and the music industry promote their movie and music stars, but have it all completely unscripted to avoid any allegations of advertising a product.
OFCOM, the TV regulator, can't complain if Will Smith just happens to mention his latest movie in the midst of an hour of entertainment, because it wasn't directly asked of him by Graham, Will "just mentioned it" or it came up in the middle of discussion. In the early days big studios and music publishers actively avoided the BBC on their promotion circuit when promoting a movie or album because the whole idea is to plug what you are selling and you can't do that on the BBC, it was only after folks like Graham and Jonathan started to draw huge viewers that promoters saw the appeal of putting their stars on a show even if they couldn't openly promote their product. The product would promote itself, people would go see the movie or buy the album anyway after seeing a star on the show.
They don't even have to mention that they have a new album out, if you see Dolly Parton on a TV in the UK you immediately think "Oooh, Dolly is still around, I wonder if she's still making music?" and a bunch of folks buy her album for themselves, or loved ones or whoever. The BBC have their chat show and promoters have their sales.

He radiates joy. We need more of that. He is a true treasure and his show is amazing. He's so quick witted, and it's fun and interesting to see groups of guests that you never see together otherwise.

Well deserved award for Graham Norton 👏 👍 The best chat show host ever . His show is absolutely fantastic, he never tries to outshine his guests and he's always putting the guests at ease and even asking if they can understand the accents. His show always puts a smile on my face. A very modest unassuming gentleman . Way to go Graham Norton 👍 👏 💛💛

I have been entertained by Graham for 50% or more of my life, and I have always laughed and cried. But, I just now realized why I love him the most. He is never bigger or smaller than any guest or audience. He always makes the crowd and his guests feel like they are at a dinner party rather than a talk show. if you really think about it, that style gave birth to the modern day podcast. May be a stretch, but still.

I love how Graham Norton can put an all A-lister guests on the couch and not have them outshine each other. Not many talk show host can do that.
Much love Graham, all the way from Malaysia!

I've been watching talk shows since the early 60s before Johnny Carson. Virtually everyone would put me to sleep before the show ended. A few years ago I saw my first episode of The Graham Norton show and I was hooked. HE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST TALK SHOW HOST ON THE AIR IN THE WORLD. I think the main reason is that he doesn't act like he is the star of the show. Instead, he brings the Stars to you.

Ditto ... I'm 66 and found him on YT a few years ago, been hooked ever since. I literally watch some of his clips over and over when I'm feeling down. Nothing compares to him ... especially on U.S. TV. Now I have to go watch father Ted, I hadn't realized it was him on the show. I love British Telly. The man is a world treasure.

I’ve always thought Ellen seems so much more robotic. I don’t know how to describe it, but I think people enjoy being on Graham Norton’s show more because it’s so much more comfortable and like talking to a friend or someone you know, not an interview on tv.

    Oh my goodness
I just love his genuine reaction, in those 8 minutes
He didn't even try to make playful faces like other celebrities do because they know the camera is on them, and to make them less uncomfortable..
Also, I don't think we ever saw graham took a compliment on his shaw ( without transferring it to a joke, just for the audience), so I truly enjoyed watching him getting overwhelmed by all those friends.
And Somehow, I even feel like I'm proud of him but I suppose I'm not the only one..
    Love you Graham! ❤️

@@DubFocus89 Just last week I watched him being interviewed about his latest book for Australian television. When probed about the Irish setting of his book, Graham admitted that after living in a small part of London for 20 years, he couldn't tell you much about life in England. Therefore, he found it natural that he went back to what he knew and experienced in his life, 1970's Ireland. We Brits have taken to him like we did with Wogan, but we must acknowledge that what Graham is, comes from Ireland.
