I am an American, and I found Graham Norton's show on UA-cam about 3 years ago. I have seen some very talented and funny talk show hosts going back to Johnny Carson, and I Really Believe there has Never been a more talented host of ANYTHING than Graham. I have never seen him have a bad show. No one, in my mind is More Deserving Of This award than him. A True LIVING LEGEND!
American here too. I refuse to watch talk shows here because they're all the same thing with the same sterile environment and questions. Graham's show is truly different and allows people to be human for a while. Cheers to Graham!
I am an Italian and only recently found out about Graham Norton's shows here on UA-cam. All the years I've spent studying English have finally paid me back. He's amazing!!!!
@Sean Gill he IS irish. proper irish. (as long as brexit is pending ... and trump doesn't know Ireland isn't UK.) but (and I think you know this) he works for UK (bbc). Thank god the internet has shrunk the world. I love that I can watch British television so easily. And Graham’s show is the best, it feels like you are sitting there with them all talking.
If a legend like Dolly Parton says she loves working with you and she has more in common with you than anybody else that's like being knighted. The respect for Graham from all of them is incredible.

As someone with bipolar I can honestly say that in some of my darkest hours Graham Norton has brought me light that nobody else could. I’d give this man my heart.
A lot of it is about respect. He is so well known and loved on both sides of the Atlantic that he can ask practically anyone to go on the show and they will. I think the only guest I've ever seen on there who clearly would rather have been somewhere else was Phil Collins.
I really feel like I'm watching his guests as people instead of actors. He brings out the funny and sometimes relatable moments they've had which makes it so fun to watch. Like you're just going out for drinks

This person is sharing some little known information to let you know how good a person Graham is. Instead you crucify him. Fucking proper cunts!
As an American I am jealous of your Ireland's national treasure Graham Norton. He is such a kind, witty and a fun person. And tbh British (Irish) humor is just awesome. 👍🏻
Tricia English I get it, but I think she meant she loves Irish and English humor. It's more dry and dark than American humor, so either one is welcome.
In America we're used to entertainers / celebrities coming on to plug a project and they don't even stay past their segment! By comparison; Graham's program is basically a cocktail party where everyone sits on the same couch, regardless of their level of fame, to share stories and react genuinely to bits happening in real time, all guided so charmingly and deftly by Graham Norton, whose craft at all of this is so inviting and warm and intoxicating! Johnny Carson may be our Gold Standard, but Graham is a bit more like Dean Martin! His show is unpredictable, sometimes messy, but always the party you'd like to be at most! ALL awards are deserved for this sweet and lovely guy!
Us shows are about plugging, advertising or supporting something first and foremost. The BBC being funded by we license payers instead of any for-profit organisation has some of the most stringent anti-advertising policies so if you want to plug something you have to find a creative way to do it. If other UK advertiser-funded networks have chat shows, many exactly the same as US shows, and the BBC wants to compete with them then it has to find a creative way to do it so Graham Norton (and to a lesser extent Jonathan Ross) were the BBC coming up with a way to have a chat show of their own and let Hollywood and the music industry promote their movie and music stars, but have it all completely unscripted to avoid any allegations of advertising a product. OFCOM, the TV regulator, can't complain if Will Smith just happens to mention his latest movie in the midst of an hour of entertainment, because it wasn't directly asked of him by Graham, Will "just mentioned it" or it came up in the middle of discussion. In the early days big studios and music publishers actively avoided the BBC on their promotion circuit when promoting a movie or album because the whole idea is to plug what you are selling and you can't do that on the BBC, it was only after folks like Graham and Jonathan started to draw huge viewers that promoters saw the appeal of putting their stars on a show even if they couldn't openly promote their product. The product would promote itself, people would go see the movie or buy the album anyway after seeing a star on the show. They don't even have to mention that they have a new album out, if you see Dolly Parton on a TV in the UK you immediately think "Oooh, Dolly is still around, I wonder if she's still making music?" and a bunch of folks buy her album for themselves, or loved ones or whoever. The BBC have their chat show and promoters have their sales.
Rob Fraser interesting point. Do you remember Michael Aspel had a popular chat show on ITV in the late eighties? he had a show where one week the guests were Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis and the whole show was them just shamelessly plugging Planet Hollywood and Bruce Willis actually sang . Michael Aspel quit and never did his chat show again
In the US we have PBS (public funded TV) why they've never tried to put together a show like Graham's is beyond me. I would think they would benefit immensely.
I'm glad Graham has gotten some recognition. He truly deserves it. I've never seen big stars/musicians/etc relax so much on an interviewers show EVER. I think unfortunately James has really adapted his humour to be American and it's all a bit scripted & fake BUT he actually is so naturally funny he should have just been more like himself like he was here in the UK. TheDevilsMessenger4 Colbert? He’s one of the most pretentious and arrogant talk show hosts out there. It really shows on Colbert’s interview with Graham funnily enough. Colbert even says something along the lines of “do you ever think urgh these people are boring I’m much more entertaining.”
Craig Ferguson?
That line that Will Smith said about Graham always setting up the guests to win - that's so true. They always come across great.
Unless the quest sabotages themselves like Mark Wahlberg being drunk and obnoxious.

He's an adorable man. ❤️😇
So gay though.. oh well 😔😂
He's a national treasure. He walked past me once in Astoria and shouted at me 'you sexy beast', ever since then i liked him. haha

My sentiments exactly, right down to being myself also an American who knows all our hosts back to Carson.
He's amazing!!!!
vm brister I agree. His abilities to manage the couch no matter who he there are unsurpassed. Absolutely brilliant.
Nobody does it like Graham Norton! I don’t even watch talkshows here in America, but I will cancel my plans for Graham. ❤️❤️❤️
the only talk show that doesn't bore me to death is The Graham Norton Show
and isnt full of liberal propaganda, unlike most of the American ones
What does that have to do with anything? I’m pretty sure Graham Norton is a liberal. Always has to be that ONE guy, ALWAYS to bring up politics.
It is the only talk show I ever watch. The rest aren't worth two bob.
He is the only show that I watch regardless of the guests!
"I go a long long long way to spend an hour with Graham...i just can't be there this evening" lmao Judi Dench is a national treasure and so is Graham!
@Sean Gill Genuinely... from the bottom of my heart... shut up. He's the world's treasure.

Thank god the internet has shrunk the world. I love that I can watch British television so easily. And Graham’s show is the best, it feels like you are sitting there with them all talking.
Where in the world are you?
US
Do you watch Graham on BBC America?
No, I watch him and other British things on UA-cam or or Hulu, things like that.
Great, what shows of ours do you like?
If a legend like Dolly Parton says she loves working with you and she has more in common with you than anybody else that's like being knighted. The respect for Graham from all of them is incredible.
Yes, he was struggling to hold it together when she said that. What a tribute.
From the wise words of Kit Harington and I feel like this describes Graham Norton in every way. "You can't lie to Norton. That's like lying to your grandma"
Awwww Graham! Well deserved buddy!!!!!!!!!💚
Bailey Bieganek Yh he so did

I can't stop watching too. Even the ones I have seen before. I have to make myself stop so that I can go to bed and wake up for work on time.
He’s becoming more popular here in America because of UA-cam.
You can tell the stars enjoy being on his show
As someone with bipolar I can honestly say that in some of my darkest hours Graham Norton has brought me light that nobody else could. I’d give this man my heart.
Me too. He lifts my depression.
100% same for me.
Exactly
That's a really poignant comment....I wonder does he even realise what he does for people.
Omg. Echoes my sentiments below. He's really saved me from myself in sleepless nights.
He's the best talk show host alive. He draws out his guests in a way that none of the other hosts can do.
A lot of it is about respect. He is so well known and loved on both sides of the Atlantic that he can ask practically anyone to go on the show and they will. I think the only guest I've ever seen on there who clearly would rather have been somewhere else was Phil Collins.
An openly gay man who's survived a near-death experience has unique credibility. Graham is genuine and his guests feel it.
I really feel like I'm watching his guests as people instead of actors. He brings out the funny and sometimes relatable moments they've had which makes it so fun to watch. Like you're just going out for drinks
For me, the only one who came close was Craig Ferguson. Were they ever on a show together?
thats why theirs a bar at his show LOL

As an American I am jealous of your Ireland's national treasure Graham Norton. He is such a kind, witty and a fun person. And tbh British (Irish) humor is just awesome. 👍🏻
Mom of 3 boys he's Irish that's our humour!@
Tricia English I get it, but I think she meant she loves Irish and English humor. It's more dry and dark than American humor, so either one is welcome.
.... Irish humour.
Pardon Me that's like mixing up Canada and America. different countries different humour NOT the same!!!!
Catriona Murphy I don't get why people get offended when Irish people point out that someone is Irish not English!
As an American, i can tell you he's the greatest host of a talk show in the history of the world. Hands down. Brilliance.
I'm glad Graham has gotten some recognition. He truly deserves it. I've never seen big stars/musicians/etc relax so much on an interviewers show EVER. He truly gets everyone loose and it's just like....watching a conversation between some friends. You know the kinds...where you are laughing till you cannot breathe but you cannot remember why you're laughing lol.
Conversation between friends describes Grahams show perfectly.

@@DubFocus89 Just last week I watched him being interviewed about his latest book for Australian television. When probed about the Irish setting of his book, Graham admitted that after living in a small part of London for 20 years, he couldn't tell you much about life in England. Therefore, he found it natural that he went back to what he knew and experienced in his life, 1970's Ireland. We Brits have taken to him like we did with Wogan, but we must acknowledge that what Graham is, comes from Ireland.

@Klaymen ..why?
I'm American and I can say without a doubt Graham is my favorite talk show host, since Letterman retired anyway. He actually lets the guests talk! What a novel idea.
I find him even better than Letterman at handling guests. Second only to Johnny Carson.
Letterman was awful with most guests. He only bothered with the few people he liked
I cried for him so happy for him. All the tears he held in omg 😭
The only chat show host who is liked across a variety of different nations ... especially here in Australia. Congratulations ... long time coming in my opinion.
Graham is the only talk show host that can make celebrities feel as if they weren't. Just plain simple human beings as should. Whether you are gay or not, black or white, purple whatever...this show brings everyone together. It makes you love and entertains you while forgetting about life and all within an hour. Thanks Graham big hug and love from the world...
It’s so rare to see a famous person so genuinely moved and surprised. He’s one of the few people I’d love to sit and talk and have a drink with.
To summarize, he's better than every other talk show host. BETTER than every other . Everytime he host is like a big family having a good old night chat. You don't see this in other talk shows.
I'm not British but I just love watching Graham Norton on UA-cam. He just has a way of bringing out the best of all his guests and I've never seen a talk show host deal with multiple celebrities from diverse parts of the entertainment world at once and somehow have them all chat so comfortably together like he does. And you can feel that the guests are genuinely having a great time on his couch. Love it.
I think to be told "hey, you're damn good at what you do, and thank you for sharing it with the rest of us" is somethin every human on the planet would love to hear, and Graham Norton damn sure deserved to hear it....he's got a fan here in San Jose, Calif (Silicon Valley) for as long as he's on the air...

Graham Norton show is far better and funnier than all American late night shows put together.
Because the show is pleasant, not fake and most important - The host is naturally funny unlike Fallon or Kimmel!
The main problem with Fallon is that he always has to be the "star" of his show, the guest is just decoration!
GrettelS2602 so true, he's not pleasant to watch because he's like a 10 year old class clown

thiruvetti very true..best globally
I think the main difference is that Graham actually invites guests that he likes, unlike other american shows where it's all about promotion.
Will Smith gets to the core of why we love Graham so much and why he is SO good at what he does. Every host could learn something from him. James Corden is also good, but in his own style.
I think James Corden wants to be Graham Norton when he grows up.
I love Will too. Another lovely guy!
I think unfortunately James has really adapted his humour to be American and it's all a bit scripted & fake BUT he actually is so naturally funny he should have just been more like himself like he was here in the UK.
Graham has an ability to be himself and make both Brits & Americans (and others) laugh which is amazing as it can be very different humour.
