Steve Martin is one of those people whose funny comes from all angles. He's silly, he smart, he has gags, he has jokes, he is a immensely talented writer, performer and comedian.
The man is brilliant. His comedy genius and timing through all his work is impeccable. I can see why he has had a long term relationship with Paul Simon, they seem to be on the same page intellectually and musically. They love their folk music. Thank you Steve Martin, you wonderfully talented man. oxo
Genius and every aspect of his story is hilarious and very different from the others. Unique, brave and his delivery is perfect. Very deep ang posses wide latitude of ideas. Salute to this legend.
Carl Reiner is also the GOAT. And Larry David, who is funnier than Reiner. But Reiner is the funniest. And Steve Martin is funniest of all, except for Reiner, and David, who is also funny.
"I hope that humor in America sustains in all its forms, from the body of reverence of iconoclasts and satirists to family fare that teaches us about ourselves in a light hearted and tender way. And it has been a great honor to be here tonight at the Kennedy Martin Center... OOPS... I wasn't supposed to say anything." The way he can slide from the sublime to the ridiculous with such ease is what makes him a comic genius.
What a treasure he is! I don't know how many times I've seen King Tut (he lived in Arizona, as I recall), or remembered a line from one of his movies and used it. Love you, and thanks for the laughs.
I saw him live in 1979. He was filling arenas then. I could only afford the cheapest seats then, but it didn’t matter - it was a transcendant performance.
Thank you for the memories of laughing with my family in the '70s to old king tut, the great play I saw about Picasso and Einstein and at the grove in Lincoln Nebraska with Martin Short. I love you and your Art. again Thank you. so much.
Or master of boombastic, self-aggrandizing, holier than thou narcissistic humor. Kennedy Martin Center, hahaha. Martin is the greatest at this type of humor. 🤣 Genius👍
If you did not see Steve Martin live, you did not see Steve Martin. If you did not see Steve Martin live, you have not laughed as hard as you can laugh.
Leave to a Canadian to actually HONOR TWAIN. My favorite quote from Sam Clements'? It's about dogs. "The dog is a GENTLEMAN, when I die, I hope to go to HIS heaven NOT man's."
I saw him in Phoenix about 40 years ago on a relatively small stage. John Sebastian was the opening act. Both were marvelous. Martin was in his King Tut and cat toys phase.
I don't know why, but, even though I've always loved Steve Martin as a comedian, I never enjoyed him as a banjo player. He just doesn't seem to emit the kind of "soul" I have heard from the true southern or blue ridge, etc. banjo players. I can only say I am honest when I express my opinion.
Just a thought, but maybe you are watching Steve Martin play the banjo instead of listening to him. Those "true southern or blue ridge, etc banjo players" tend to be bluegrass only, Scruggs-style only. While that in itself is very good, real banjo music comes in many flavors, and Hall of Fame banjo players (like Earl Scruggs and Steve Martin) understand that. One of the best, if not THE best , banjo player in the world comes from Switzerland! His name is Jens Kruger.

So true!
And he looks funny.
Who else is binge watching Steve Martin speeches?
Yes! And Tina fey speeches at the same time
This is my third now
Wish George Carlin got it when he was alive
And Tina’s...
The man hasn't done a stand up special since the 70's but if you watch them all in a row it fills a hole
And 16 years later he creates, writes and acts in “Only Murders in the Building” True genius
I have listened to these 100's of times. Maybe 200
I finished watching all the Mark Twain recipients' speech. This one was the funniest for me! 😂😂😂❤❤❤
For me too! There are a lot of great comedians but he has something special!
@@SusanGaglianoPisa It was good but will Ferrel was better from the minute he broke it till he told his wife to shut her mouth
Will Farell was funniest for me.
Julia Louis Dreyfus also was hilarious
It's right there with Will Ferrell's. I've always found Ferrell is Martin's true heir.
I have the feeling that Mark Twain would have loved this.
I have based my entire sense of humor on Steve Martin. No one likes me.

@@ANTIStraussian That’s your problem. You’re supposed to be you and not someone else. If you do, that’s called multiple personality disorder

His speech is a proof that he deserved that award! Hilariously genius!

Will Ferrell has also a funny
@@smikeDe yea, something like that
In 1976, I spent the night in line for tickets for a Steve Martin performance. It was worth it.
The performance?
Or the waiting in line?
I absolutely adore Steve Martin. One of the GOATs
Carl Reiner is also the GOAT. And Larry David, who is funnier than Reiner. But Reiner is the funniest. And Steve Martin is funniest of all, except for Reiner, and David, who is also funny.
He is so brilliant! How on earth did he do all that with a straight face? Just when you think he can't be funnier, then he gets funnier!
I love this video. Any time I'm in a less than mood, I can watch this and brighten up, immediately. I love this kind of humor.
i think this is his best speech ever. comedy at its finest. simply wonderful.
He was born a poor black child in Mississippi, and just look at him now.
BAHHAAAAAAA!!!

And who can forget Steve Martin singing king tut😂😂😂
This was the best MT prize speech.
Anything he doesn’t excel at?! Art collector extraordinaire, etc, maybe science? 🙏 What a man!
Don’t forget banjo virtuoso.
Still surprisingly funny every joke! I've loved him since 1975.
Brilliant.
Greatest
The Kennedy Martin Center….the way he says he wasn’t supposed to say anything is so funny. Love this man.
He’s been, like, 55 years old for the last 40 years or so.
"I guess that's the charm of looking 70 since your 30s" as Martin Short said.
Adrenochrome
Goes to show ya what a degree in philosophy can lead to.
Making people laugh what a gift.
There may be no one who takes this profession more seriously than Steve Martin. A consummate pro.
Steve Martin and Mark Twain would’ve been best friends.
Class act.
My favorite bluegrass musician. Oh , and he’s funny as hell the rest of the time!
Thank you for uploading this vid!
vintage Steve Martin
Might have the best comic timing of all time
He’s like a little puppy 🐶 he’s sweet charming funny human being ❤️

Definitely comic genius and well deserved ❤

"He hates these cans!"
You jerk !

A class act!
Anyone else ever wonder how much he is going to be missed when he's gone??
maybe I won't accept the fact that he's gone
We’re gonna take to the streets. The entire Internet will stop what we’re doing to mourn him for a week. It’ll be a memorial for the ages.
Steve way to clear your throat 100 times, somewhere Newhart is beaming
This man always makes me 😃 laugh
For his acceptance speech he did nearly a full comedy routine. So appropriate. Some of the other recipients were funny, but didn't go whole hog.
We still remember
😂🗣"Steve!! Steve-O!🙂Barron VonSteve! 👍
And a heck of a banjo player
why did this video get so little views?
"...to be here at the Kennedy-Martin Center--oh... I wasn't supposed to say anything..."
Sooo witty 🌹💞
"Whatever you do, for God's sake, do not name a prize after me." MT actually said that!
Me I love Steve Martin ❤❤❤❤❤

Lol he's funny and always has been
This is one of the funniest Mark Twain acceptance speeches
What I appreciate about Steve Martin is that he doesn't dumb it down. If you don't get it, oh well.
Steve if we had caught your sense of humor at a young enough age we could have done something about it. Have you tried an overcoat?
Steve Martin is the best comedian of all time.
Too bad his career in cat juggling didn't work out.
he's so deserves this
What better time that now to take a moment and recaunt all the ... Jajaja very funny
Classic. I feel like Martin Short should have come out of a knapsack at the end.
He's great. Too bad the orchestra almost missed their cue at the end though....
I learned English by listening the Beatles and Steve jokes LoL
Even crazier is Steve learned English by listening to the Beatles
pure genius
So that’s why they renamed it Kennedy Martin Center!
In following years it became the Quicken Loans Center.
If I can stay focused.

Intelligent comedy.

Laughing since I was 6
Steve Martin is to Mark Twain what Shania Twain is to Mark Twain.

Ukranian flag background 💙💛
He should have played off with his banjo or at least banjo music played him off the stage either way he should have had his banjo with him
His other speeches are funnier
Even though hes a bit to woke for me he does say some funny stuff occasionally
🤣🤣🤣🤣
