- Detailed video on removal, installation, and wiring of an OEM Honda Gauge Cluster with Tachometer into a 1991 Honda Acty SDX
Special Thanks to AllThingZJDM for the cluster.
Special Thanks to "JustCJ" for the background tracks!
Man that was heavvvvvy! You make it look so easy… I’m not that handy :(
Thanks brother! More time editing than doing the job!
@The Crusader Wiring diagram is in the video! About midway through if I recall. Thanks!
This repair, mod, and install are so cool!
Thanks for watching!
Amazing video! Great info. Was stumbling upon various kei truck vids, and yours came up. Must say, very impressed. I'm actually in the market for a kei truck, so understanding on how to work on them is vital.
Awesome Ted! Glad you found me. Yes these little trucks can be addicting. Very good fun for the buck!
Great information and content Ron! Thank you very much. 🤝🍺
Man im gonna have your channel going 24/7 this winter working on my first acty i just got! 🤙🫡
Ron - outstanding video!! You make things look so easy (as they never really are). I can totally do that (IF I can find one LOL). Thank you again my friend for your knowledge & time. You are much appreciated!
Thank YOU for watching and the positive feedback. Helping folks is what I’m after and having fun doing it. And yes, there are more off camera “shenanigans” than anyone will ever know. You guys get the highlight reel only!😂
Nice work !! We may need a video on that type R as well ;-)
Oh it’s in the works. Nice little surprise under the hood. 😍
@@rhd_ron sounds like my volo 240 wagon build ;) … you got a sub from me looking forward to more videos. You may like some of my videos as well
@@1620GarageAndFarm I will check you out! Thanks again.
Thanks Ron! Great video.
Good to know where that tach signal wire is under the dash for future reference... If I can find a tach cluster and get Minny MiMi to send it over.
Thank you kindly. Yes! Blue tach wire under the dash was a great find. Honda typically has that available somewhere in non-tach from the factory cars throughout the 90s models.
Enjoyed that! nice work!
Thank you sir! I know it’s lengthy, but it’s as short as I could make it and still show everyone!
Nice work! I wish I saw this before I put in an aftermarket tach on my truck, although idk if I’d have the patience to do what it takes to get it installed…🤷🏻♂️🤔😂. FYI, I got solder seal wire connectors from AMZN. It has the solder inside, so you just twist the wires together, slide the connector over and heat shrink.
I have two tach clusters that have 16-pin and 6-pin connectors (instead of 12 and 6). I guess I will have to figure this out from scratch! Great video though, Ron! Also, the pins are different sizes on 16 and 6 pin...cant swap them over to other plug.
Check my other video! I do the 16p and 6pin cluster too. Thanks for watching.
Great video, I am looking into adding a tachometer somehow on my 1992 HA4 and am undecided if i want to go this route or a external setup like glow shift or whatnot. Its hard finding a 3 cylinder tach that looks decent.
Thank you! Yes I agree, I really didn't want to go aftermarket, I really enjoy the original feel. I hope this helps you along your way!
Hey, i just got this cluster and it came with the 2 plugs... can i use them? I don't see why not but figured id ask you
where do you buy the gauge at? looking for one for a 93 honda acty sdx ha4
Hey hows it going! So, I have an extra cluster with tach here I can sell. Or I buy them through Exporting AllThingzJDM Facebook group. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks!
Hey Rob,
Do you have a scanned copy of the pin out diagram/wiring diagram that you showed on the UA-cam video for reference?
Looking into doing this when I get around to ordering the cluster.
Also do you think you could just depin the stock big plug then just repin the two new plugs? Maybe not enough slack?
So the two new plugs would not accept the pin terminals from the older single plugs.
That would have been nice if they did. Slightly different size and style.
Do you happen to recall the bulb size and how many there are? I’m fairly certain I’ve got a few that are burnt out and would like to have them before I start taking stuff apart.
So I brought a digital gauge it has a option to show the gas percentage is there a way to hook that up to the existing one ?
Im not sure. Depends on what the Acty sender is sending signal-wise. And what signal the digitial fuel gauge accepts. As old as these trucks are, I cant say they would work easily together. Although not impossible.
Doing this swap ATM I have an EXTRA white wire with a red stripe.
Any idea what slot that would pin into on the new 12 slot MOLEX?
White with red stripe is seat belt light. If you have a 90-93 truck you do not have this wire. Its for 94+ trucks.
Not sure if I am blind and missed it but what cluster is this? I want to do this swap but there seems to be a few different versions of this cluster and idk which one is the right one to get
This one came from a similar model Acty Van. Thanks
Dude, I can not for the life of me get that speedometer needle situated back in its original spot. It's driving me mad! How did you get it back in so easily?
Oh on camera its easy, off camera it is tough! Lol, just keep trying
Hey Ron, my green lights that light up the cluster aren’t working. Any ideas what I can do to trouble shoot? I’ve switched bulbs with working ones without success. No visible corrosion.
You made sure you wired in your “Illumination” wire correct? It should be the Red wire with Black Stripe. Thanks and let me know!
Ron,
Could you list the Power Probe model?
Also where did you get the tach cluster and wiring harness part?
Hey Stephen! Sorry for the late response. Mine is the Power Probe III with case kit. I believe its around $150. Easy to find on amazon or a google search. I don’t know what life is without one now. Lol. Thanks!
Ron - Thanks for this. I've watched it a few times and I assume that the actual electrical pins are different between to the original plug and the new plugs that you had to graft on, correct? Any idea where to get the original style electrical pins? Or, perhaps better yet, and interest in selling the left over pins? My Acty has the same issue you found when you pulled it apart: a few over pins became brittle and the springy part snapped off. I can't seem to find replacements anywhere. Thanks!
Hey Tom! Thanks for watching. Shoot me a message on IG: RHD_Ron. I will see if I can help you find what you need. 👍
Ron do you know what kind of bulbs go in the cluster?
I do, I don’t have the part number right off hand though. Try honda.epc-data.com
Is there anyway you could send me a close up pic of the old single plug? I’m gonna try to see if I can order the other side and make a connector
I sure can. Just leave your email address. Thanks!
So can i order one through all thingzjdm and why dont the sell pig tail with it? thanks for the vids
So some on Yahoo Auctions have pigtails and some do not. Jusr depends on what you find. AllThingzJDM can get you whatever you are able to find on Yahoo auction. Thanks!
What car is the cluster?
Great video!
Your door cards are in really good shape. Did you replace them or did you get the truck like that? Mine are faded to hell.
Video may be a bit deceiving, mine are faded as well. Maybe just not as bad?
Do you know if it's the same deal on a 89 acty ?
Sorry bud, not sure. I would think the connectors are different. The speedometer cable may be similar but I would not count on the wiring to be the same.
@@rhd_ron I have the cluster and wire harness from Mimi would you take on the job if I mailed to you?
@@rejeanboudreau6647 I would need to have the pigtail in your existing truck to trace down the wiring. Unfortunately I do not think I can help without the truck and harness/cluster in hand.
i am looking for RPM tach cluster on mitsubishi minicab v-u42t motor is 3g83. is this possible ?
Check out FB Group Exporting AllThingzJDM. There’s an announcement in there on how to request and get parts. 👍
Where did you find the harness at? I’m struggling finding one anywhere….
You need a 6pin and 12pin or a 16pin?
@@rhd_ron 6 pin and 16 pin.
@@seankloss532 so the 16pin can be found from a 94-01 Integra. The 6pin Ive found on 84-87 model Civics. I do have an extra 6p and 12p.
@@rhd_ron I sent you a dm on instagram about the other plug. That would be awesome if I can buy the spare 6pin from you thanks!
What car is the cluster from?
It came from an Acty Van in Japan.
The "Town" trim of the Acty truck also comes with the tach cluster.
Stinks about the lens, the one on the cluster I'm was going to install on mine is all messed up. Not sure I want to install it now.
I hope the video didn't deter you from installing! It's well worth the effort. I had no idea what RPM this little engine was at. Seems as though 5500rpm is about max shift rpm for engine long term health. lol
@@rhd_ron oh, not at all. I'm definitely more confident in it now. My issue is the cluster I bought with the tach has a pretty messed up front cover. If my stock one won't transfer over the cluster I have might not be worth swapping.
that 'music' is really annoying-
Thanks for the feedback. I noticed it was a little loud after posting as well. Didn’t seem so loud when editing.
I’d have to agree…
