Is it worth the extra cost for the 30th Anniversary?
@TheStraightPipes Did you happen to park outside a school when recording this?
Totally worth it for the racing orange!
Yes! We need more orange cars!
Yes its worth it. I have co driven in one once and it was fun. Best part you can still get it as a manual #savethemanuals and it has THE BEST convertible roof ever.
how much more is it actually after the options?
"If you get it in an automatic, you are actually getting a worse vehicle."
Bold move Mazda, bold move. #SavetheManuals
It's a good idea on their part too because it cuts cost and the people who care about those things are buying a manual anyways.
Most cars punish you for choosing manual, Mazda rewards you.
Look, I absolutely love manuals and I would drive any car rather with a manual than an automatic. But gimping the automatic version of a car is not a bold move, it's a dick move. Some people prefer automatics and some people simply can't drive manuals (because of disabilities or whatever) and those poor souls are now getting a worse car.
There's no reason to be petty, just because manuals are disappearing - because it is inevitable. Once the EV or hydrogen fuel cell becomes mainstream, manuals will be a thing of the past.
Herp McDerp Mazda’s own sales figures showed that the vast majority of Miata buyers bought the manual models. It’s one of those rare instances where putting R&D funds into a car’s automatic transmission may not be worth the effort.
Yes, the manual’s days are limited, but the Miata will be one of the last cars available with a manual given how strongly sales favor it for this particular car. I don’t blame Mazda at all for not giving two craps about the auto version. They make fine autos for the rest of their lineup. They just don’t care to invest extra money into the transmission few buy (for the Miata).
@@dsugioaga To be fair, we don't know why Mazda is not including certain features on the automatic versions. There may be reasons other than to punk those who need or prefer automatics. This is certainly true when it comes to manuals (if they're an option at all) only being offered on lower trim levels. Mazda is one of the few exceptions that allows Manuals on their higher trim level cars. The particular demographic we're defending here probably very low -- a person without the use of a hand and/or one or both of their legs, wanting this exact limited edition Miata. It's not like that couldn't purchase an auto with "all the things" likely for less money.
Just got mine in orange 🍊
In Forza horizon 4 😎
These guys need to review a race sim :)
absolut mad man
Ngl had us in the first half.
Supergt from forza also races karts and is really good at both
Mr. 2cents. Just get Need for speed Heat its so much fun. I have a suped up ND Miata and I love it
Man I remember being a naive kid and swearing I'd never drive a "girly" Miata. Now, it's on my "realistic" wish list lol.
Same here bro. Not even embarrassed about it.
Bought one as my first car at 19.. knew I’d get some shit for it but I absolutely loved my Miata. It’s a car that you can mob at 80% of the chassis’ capability on your way to work and back haha. I’d constantly take the back way home just for the 5 or 6 fun corners. I did have an exhaust and coil overs on mine though
I dont get whats girly about it, i think it looks amazing!
Pissing off people who say this or yell "haha gayboy" about them is legit one of the best parts of owning one. I had an NB8B for two years and miss it terribly.
SUVs are the only girly cars
I originally had a long paragraph typed out talking about my 2016 MX-5 and I was ready to push the comment button and deleted it. Just watch the review, drive one, and see how happy you are after driving it. It's the best car I've owned!
harrismi7 I was going to get one but it’s just not a practical car lol I would’ve regretted it like a month later. I ended up getting the 2019 Mazda3
What other cars does it beat that you've owned?
@@Sickwitit18 the cars I've owned over the past 10-12 years were a 2015 Volvo V60, 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, 2011 Dodge Charger, and 2007 Dodge Ram 4x4. Right now my MX5 shares space with a 1999 Porsche 911 I bought in July. I could not be happier with the 2 cars I have. It makes it hard to pick one when I need to go somewhere.
@@harrismi7 that's a great problem to have
@@harrismi7 so you had had no fun cars before the Miata, and it's the best, so surprising.
I was a Miata hater until I drove one back in 2016...rest is history, I owned a 2016 soul red, switched to 30AE in July and still have my 1997 NA.
same here
I also own a 97 NA Miata brought march 2019
No nut November is getting difficult watching your videos
So true
when did no shave november turn into no nut? Is this metoo incel movement?
@@aceofspades6667 Hello there brethren, I think it started 2yrs ago alongside No Shave November. Love the orange Mazda and orange maple leaves. Perfect match!!
Confession time: Last year I went to the Mazda dealer I had already bought 2 Mazdas from and told them I was really interested in an MX-5 (I wasn't). I ended up getting a 2 hour test drive, alone. I picked up my dad and we went to drive to the mountains for as long as we could before taking it back. Best way to spend a Saturday morning.
I don't think it's worth $10.000 more than a regular Miata, no chance.
monoespacial how did you time so much in 5 seconds

Thanks for the shout out! Keep making great content and we'll keep the G|Drives coming!
There's never such a thing as too many Miata reviews - keep up the good work guys!! :)
Love the MX5 ! Just bought one ! I never even test drove it , only sat in it . I'm very confident with my purchase. Thank you Mazda for making this fantastic car/work of art !
Because of how you guys talk about this line of cars I recently bought a MX-5 NC, and I love it!
It had 70.000 kilometers on it and I paid 9000 Euro's fot it. That's about 6.170 dollars (CANADIAN) Worth every penny! Thank your
@@HotCacahuete HA! So I did
I own a '17 mx5 rf and I love it to death. No other car has given me so many smiles every time I drive it.
What are these other cars you're talking about?
Have owned ~30 cars including Porsche, Lotus, Golf R32, Golf R, etc. Bought a nicely set up 2001 NB Miata three years ago and will never sell it. That's the best compliment I can give!
What's your favorite car you've ever owned? Maybe the top 3?
What Porsche? What lotus? What else?
How is NB relevant to ND2 review?
@@volodymyrshoniia2424 relevant as the point of the video is how good the Miata is compared to other cars, which is true. You can wring it's neck and not break the law on public roads.
I had a 1987 Porsche 944 and a 1984 911 Carrera coupe. The Lotus was a 2006 Elise.
@@tmh44 so you had really old Porsches, great. And you're saying nb is better than the Elise? Or is it just because you can beat on it and not worry about anything? Elise doesn't seem to require going illegally fast when you want to have fun, although it isn't as slow as a Miata.
@@volodymyrshoniia2424 if it matters I've also driven the 996, 997, 991, Boxsters, Caymans, etc. extensively.
But yes, I find the Miata more fun overall in daily life. I'm less precious with it than those other cars, so I drive it harder, wash it less often, and don't freak if it gets a new stone chip. So speaking for myself I enjoy the NB more. Hope this answers your questions.
I just drove one over the weekend. At night, top down in perfect Florida weather in Sarasota. Trying to speed corners and roundabouts is the most fun I've ever had while driving. Will never forget that first Miata experience!
I have watched your Mx-5 Videos so often already....and I am still coming back. I really love your focus on driving in your Vidoes.
Yours really is the best way to do a car review!
I saw a Miata. So I got up at 5 AM to watch this.
I love how you talk about this car, you go through all the details, love it!
I feel like Yuri is not gonna keep is Prowler for long
I’m keeping it forever.
TheStraightPipes what u mean by saying regret not getting a miata before? Is it choice a between the prowler?
Most people see you in a Miata and think, "that guy's a bitch". Most people see a prowler and don't even pay attention to the driver, just get confused and curious about wtf just drove by. I'd rather take the non-bitch option
No one thinks that Miata drivers are "a bitch".
Or is this an american thing?
@@raupenimmersatt6906 American. Where big bodies and large loud engines trump actual performance. Not saying it's what I think, but small zippy cars get a much better response in other countries than they do in America
The filming though the fall leaves in the orange Miata is dope as hell.
You guys are the best. Running over a hard drive while transferring files with the car you are reviewing. The best.
Calgary Alberta here, i picked up my attainable dream car this spring.
1st gen ND soft club, it is well worth the money, and i would watch you 2 no Matter what.
Keep up the grate vibes.
I have owned 8 Miata’s over the years. Currently own a 2017 Club Ricaro, BBS, Brembo. Love! I love Mazda so much that I sold my BMW X5 and bought a CX9 Signature.
Had a 1990 Miata for years. Most fun you can have on four wheels, especially if you join a Miata club. Here in San Diego, you can go on a Miata run almost any weekend. You can buy a low mileage used Miata for a good price and have so much fun. Not a great primary vehicle for most people, but a wonderful second or third car.

Had a 2016 GT Black/Black Soft Top MT and loved the car, JUST traded it in for a 2019 GT Machine Grey/Cherry Top with Car Play and love it. Added a number of upgrades from MX-5 Thing as well as a Cobalt Exhaust System. It feels quite a bit different than the 2016 and with the upgrades that it comes with make it well worth it. Just love this car and loads of comments from everyone. The ND is the sharpest looking MX-5 hands down. If your on the fence about getting one, just do it. I'll be 70 next year and should have bought one of these years ago, ZOOM ZOOM, ,
how's the '19 feel different?
Really great review on the MX-5. I have an MX-5 RF and I'm really happy with it. I bought my first MX-5 in 1993 new and had it for 4 years before trading it on a BMW 3 series. I wanted another MX-5 ever since. I bought the current car in July 2019.
I went from a 2002 miata to a 2018 (i know, i know) miata and I think my favorite quality of life improvement on the new generation is the roof. it really is that easy. I look at convertibles with power roofs that are like "put the roof up or down in only 11 seconds!" - no thanks!
Kevvo Wobbo got a 93 with automatic, plan to get a 2016 with a manual as my second car when I upgrade. If I can I would get a club sport package. I can’t keep both as I only have space for 2 cars now.
Love the "Hide ya kids Hide ya wives" reference lol. I was that guy for Halloween back in college. Slayed it and everyone loved it

Me and my wife needed a second car and one of the ladies she works with her Dad had a 2006 MX5 with 40,000 miles for $4,000 in excellent condition. So I told her to go ahead and buy it. Did not know it was an automatic, but it's still a blast to drive. I'm going to get a 2019 in a couple of years now that I'm in love with the car.
You guys nail why the Miata is so damn special. For yrs I blew it off now my 19yr old son has a 2001 Special edition, coil overs, 17"'s, skirts, roll bar and performance summers (looks like a baby last gen RX7). I now get the fuss. Its the car you drive and look around at every supposed sports or super car and snicker because yours if more fun, more connected and you bought it cause it actually makes driving fun again......
Didn't realize Jakub beat Savage Geese at the Miata challenge. Hats off to you sir

Probably closer to the release date
For the record these guys are the best product advertisers ever...I mean all this sponsors better pay nice to STR8pipes...
My favorite car reviewers and your videos keep getting better!
Miata always makes me happy because of their front end
I have a 2010 Miata, and love it. I’m 6’1” tall, and it has plenty of room. It’s an automatic, but manual clutches have been on their way out for a while. It doesn’t have torque lag, and my wife can drive it without smoking a clutch. I’ve been in the 30th Anniversary Miata, and have two complaints: the Recaro seats do not allow you to slide into the car, and the Homelink mirror plate is HUGE. I could live with the Recaro seats, but that mirror belongs on a bus. Thanks for sharing! 👍
I recently bought a NB Miata and it is the best friking thing ever!!
No Mac for video editing???
Still funny how you guys always find something hilarious and off topic in almost every video. Running over a external drive! Priceless!
Miata's are just so much fun no matter how you drive them. That orange color is sick! I like the color matched calipers as well.
To be fair my foot would likely still work being crushed by a miata.
good to see you guys having so much fun!😎
The thing you need to keep in mind with the MX-5 (I refuse to call it a Miata), is that more than half its owner base are not sports car drivers. They buy Miatas because they are cute and hope that the cuteness rubs off on them. Mazda had no idea this buyer demographic would appear but it did, right from the NA onwards. Mazda was determined to stay true to their mission: producing a modern-day version of a traditional British sports car. But due to demand from the fashionistas, they added specials like this overpriced Day-Glo orange monstrosity, options like automatic transmission, pastel paint jobs, different-color canvas tops, automatic windshield wipers, even an electrically operated steel targa top! And for the wannabe boy racers they offered the Club, with Bilstein shocks and LSD and various frame braces and available BBS wheels, Brembo brakes, and Recaro seats.
To a hard-core sports car guy, this car does not need Brembo brakes or BBS wheels. And this is why the base Sport model, which almost nobody knows about, exists. It's as bare-bones as a Miata can get -- and still it comes with AC, cruise, power windows, LED headlights, power mirrors, and superb build quality.
For under the price of a mid-level Mazda 3 econobox (say, the mid-20s) you can have a new base MX-5 Sport with the same upgraded 2L engine that's in the more expensive versions, and the same all-alloy suspension and superb 6-speed transmission (a true 6-speed, no overdrive), and the great steering and brakes -- all in the lightest possible incarnation of the MX-5, a mere 2340 lb. Car & Driver got to 60 in this car in 5.7 seconds, so don't call it slow. In the tight twisties it'll have the 911s and WRXs begging for mercy, because pilots of those excellent cars simply cannot drive them to their limit on public roads.
Take it from an old guy who's been through some far more expensive sports cars -- the base MX-5 does what it does better than any other sports car out there -- unless you're over six feet tall. It is absolutely intoxicating to drive on a winding river road in the middle of nowhere. But maybe even more important, it is a delight to drive to the local Safeway. That's because it is a true driver's car, it demands to be driven, and it rewards its driver with the sheer pleasure of going from A to B in a thoroughbred machine. Find a dealer who even stocks the base Sport model and take one for a spin and you'll see what I mean.
I owned a '94 Miata and enjoyed it quite a bit but with small children and other demands, it wasn't practical. It was well built and reliable. If I were to buy another one, it would be the retractable hardtop even though it's less sporty with that option. However, instead buying another Miata, I sorta went in another direction with a 911 manual.
I know, I could have bought multiple Miatas instead, but I didn't have the garage space. :-) Keep up the good work guys.
Living in New England a Miata has to be a second car..so a brand new one is off the list for me. I got lucky and found a ‘16 GT with 6k miles under $20k US. Best bargain out there is a slightly used, and it came with Mazda CPO warranty.
Anyone who’s wanted one-just do it! Drive one and you’ll be hooked.
Ahhh yes, my bi-weekly "The Straightpipes" fix.
You guys rock!
I have a 25th edition NC in soul red and I love it for all the reasons you mentioned. Maintenance costs are also very low.
I love to watch the seasons pass in your reviews. Discovered the channel last winter and here we are again. Always honest and entertaining. Thanks guys. Bought a Hyundai Palisade thanks to your reviews of it and the Telluride. Immediately drove it from Saskatchewan to Texas and love it to death. Stay warm eh?

I got a 2016 MX5 2.0 and I love it! If you are tempted in buying it, just do it!!!
I just test drove one yesterday and all the hype is real. Great to drive a manual again.
OMG Thanks for correcting the proper way to pronounce Toronto. Just had a conversation about that at the office. Timely.
Damn those shots of the miata driving behind the camera are beautiful with the leaves wooshing by the miata
You are absolutely right, Mx5 does compete with more premium fun cars. I'm torn apart between m240i and Miata as my next daily fun car.
the orange color looks really good with all the fall colors.
I like everything except the row of led lights under the headlights. Miatas are such fun cars to drive but at that price point, they’re are a lot more choices I’d go with.
Miata is my daily drive and love every bit of it, even in the snow.
u plow the snow with ur miata? is it not too low? i was plowing even in my c250 benz back in 2014 during that snow storm in the east coast.
@@JamesColeman12 It does sometimes, but I never got stuck once. The underside of the front bumper got scratch a bit by ice after a couple days of freezing rain.
@@SleepyZippy yeah it scraped my bumper too. but when you dont have other options atleast u not stranded lol.
As a Canadian, I can attest that an MX-5 with four serious snow tires (mounted on cheap steel wheels) is nearly unstoppable in the snow. The car is so light, it floats above the slushy mess heavier cars get stuck in. And with serious snow tires, handling on snow-covered roads is unbelievable. A few winters ago in Calgary in my NA I was running circles around Jeeps and SUVs on snowy highways -- they were barely in control of their behemoths.
Seeing this orange reminds me of my 03 mazdaspeed protege !

@@HotCacahuete The price didnt help but there are already reports of catastrophic engine failure on multiple accounts from stock (non modded) engines.
Fun facts: Derek from Milton Mazda took me on a test drive, and told me the reason the paint is orange and not yellow like the NA is that it was SUPPOSED to be orange on the NA and they had issues with it, hence the yellow!

Holy body roll! You can see the car leaning so hard when you take those turns! Looks like a lot of fun though.
I wish it was a little bit bigger! (But it’s great fun). A fairly priced sports car that’s a blast to drive ... unless you’re 6’ or more. As a shorter guy at 5’9” I’m very comfortable but I’d still like it a bit longer and wider. Too bad it’s not the same size as the Boxster!

Wow! That orange color ROCKS!!!
As an MX-5 owner I'd say the 30th anniversary is totally worth it. We can't spec Recaro seats in UK so they only come on special editions.
The prowler should definitely be wintered with videos if it snows!
I do disagree with you guys on some things. I'd say it's pretty loud, I always drive to the redline from 1st so it's mostly at the sweet exhaust spot and driving this way it's pretty rapid 0-62 in about 6 seconds - very easy to speed on our many 30 roads.
Also the Abarth 125 is a competitor but it pretty much is a Mazda, just not as good.
I think the Nissan Kicks has headrest speakers as well so Mazda is not the only manufacturer doing those.
My Pontiac Fiero had headrest speakers wayyyy back in 1983.
