don't forget the curvature of the earth. This limits most transmissions on flat ground to less than 10 miles. Mountain to valley with no obstructions is what they mean when they say 28 miles.
to do 28 miles you need to program in the pl tone to a G M R S tower then you need a lcense know your on G M R S family service requires no license as you are at one mile apart as the radio has a 1/2 watt transmiter so one mile and you out of range.
hellow to get 28 miles you first buy a $ 49.95 dollar C D rom for our radio down load in to computer down load that in to radio next get intuch with the F C C for your licensee and give them $ 35.00 dollars in 7 days you will have it then you can come up and be with us I am W R X N 824 from MINN.
These radios are only made for short communications 28 mile is overhyped range yes possible if you were on a mountain these are uhf line of sight so height does help great test in built up area enjoyed the video post.....p.s I use 5 watts licenced radios and I only get 3 to four miles in a built up area but on a high hill I have transmitted for 75 miles mine are uhf also it would be interesting to see you test these radios one at a very high point I think the range even on them will amaze you a guy on youtube using a small watch pmr radio transmitted for over 80 miles give it a try you will be amazed how the range of communication will be increased.....
ON the G M R S radio I have a licensee and talk to Chicago I LL weekly on radio towers these radio's work the same as police and fire P D car to tower to PD Car hope this helps
what it is is corpert guys knowing nothing about the radio telling most people what thay then people like this guy taking that INFO and pass along to people who may have never knowen anything about radio then a Licensee holder comes along and set them strate you radio is running at a half a watt that is why you may get a mile on a windy day W R X N 824 down and gone.
BECOUSE the radio has a half a watt transmitter there is the PROBLUM when the company does not know what the radio does and does not DO then people get the wrong info and it carry's on over and over example thay say it will do 20 miles BUT don't tell how to do it and you cant correct them thay hung up on me and I have a LICENSEE for G M R S F R S is ONE MILE or line of site for every radio made in the U S A
*@donalderixkson-si8ww* Yeah I know but thats also false advertising on the companies that make these radios part even their 2 to 3 mile range is unrealistic.
I use discord on my phone and create a voice channel with push to talk enabled. But if you don't have cell service, then yeah you need better 2 way radios.
I run 45 watts on G M R S I transmit to a tower 10 miles away going in with 45 watts and the tower put's me out at 20 miles so we goes tower tower THAT is the same way the police radios work know you now.
28 miles require a fed license to do that I have one since last year and I Own a 45 watt base station talk across three county's off a repeater tower group each tower has a 60 watt repeater on it so radio to tower to radio with F C C licensee your dealing with the GOV.
You no longer have to get a license for the "bubble pack" type radios. As of September 2017 the FCC changed the rules. You may now use all channels those radios are equipped with "license free". Link: www.buytwowayradios.com/blog/2017/09/which_frs_gmrs_radios_are_license_free.html
@Jamez Actually, the Midland GXT1050VP4 and GXT1000VP4 are 3.07 watts. (While not a handheld radio or a bubble pack being a vehicle-mounted radio) the Midland MXT105 goes to 5 watts (just as an example.) But if you want more than 2 watts, go for the license. Most people won't need that much or be willing to jump through the hoops for that. The Midlands are shown in this link: www.buytwowayradios.com/blog/2017/09/which_frs_gmrs_radios_are_license_free.html
Great work ladies, this was good scientific testing. No frills, meters, or graphs. Get yourself a pair of Baofeng UV-5R radios. They should cost about $19.00 on eBay. They will need to be programmed for the GMRS and FRS channels. Get some help, check for GMRS repeaters in your area. Download the chirp program and get the cable. Bet you get better range.
The 28 mile range is a distance without interference...say a desert or on water where you have no interference from obstructions.
don't forget the curvature of the earth. This limits most transmissions on flat ground to less than 10 miles. Mountain to valley with no obstructions is what they mean when they say 28 miles.
the 28 miles is on G M R S channels which are not set up out of the box and
you need a license to do that and we use radio towers in the airea
28 miles is dun with a F C C license your radio tuned to a G M R S radio tower
that is how you do it I have both and I do it all day long.

Jen and Nene are cute lol. Yeah these walkies usually never make it past a mile maybe a little more if you're lucky. Great video guys!
becouse one mile is as far as the radio will work so there are rules put down by the F C C.
*@donalderixkson-si8ww* Yeah I know but thats also false advertising on the companies that make these radios part even their 2 to 3 mile range is unrealistic.
@@MKF30 2 miles on F R S 28 miles on G M R S if that is BOTH
services LICENSEE needed for G M R S I have one you need one
@@donalderickson-si8ww Yeah I used to have lots of FRS they all hit a little over a mile at best. The GMRS definitely had better range.
half a watt transmitter there is the reassion why
I use discord on my phone and create a voice channel with push to talk enabled.
But if you don't have cell service, then yeah you need better 2 way radios.
all you need is G M R S.
That’s great! Jen was awesome! :)
Dae Forshtay ☺
Do you know how to use it you can do it but are you trying to send signal with concrete walls behind you??
that is true
concrete will stop the signel flat your radio has less the one watt transmitter
that is F R S only repeaters are at 150 ft and do 20 miles per tower
They were on my xmas list and to blocks away from home in a reg city block which is MAYBE a quarter mile and ZERO, A BIG OLE GOOSE EGG! WTH MIDLAND!
thay are all the same on talk power
your radio is on low power less then a watt.
28 miles is line of sight with NO obstructions between radios. A good test would be hill top to hill top.
your radio has a half a watt transmitter that is why the short range
we do 28 miles on the G M R S net work of radio towers around town

Just get a gmrs license from the FCC and use those channels to really get the most out of it.
Mike Davitt those licenses are like $70. Do you have one? How much more access do you have to thise channels?
@@veconsports7650 But it's $70 for 10 years.

hole family household
Imagine not understanding how radio works.
that's what we have two girls with radios rated at 1/2 of a watt as mandated
by the f c c which control all licenses nation wide
AS thay did not read the book it is there problum
I started out on C B back in the 60's and worked up to this.
