Man 10:05 finally solved the issue I was having, I kept trying everything, hitting menu etc... one walkie had the high pitch sound(like the sound hitting the up or down buttons) when hitting the PTT button and couldn't transmit any sound, but somehow had a delay and transmitted sound through the speaker, idk how to explain it or how it got like that, but it wasn't working to where someone can talk, but you can hear from another walkie. The call alert is nice to know and so is the bp(silent operation) button. 22:00 I have a slightly better understanding of these now and this is the only video I found for these exact models.
What an excellent video! Thank you for taking the time to do this and for sharing it. I haven’t seen a better overview/review video on any subject. Great job.
Got these radios for an upcoming trip with the lady. Yesterday we each took them to our separate places of work to test the range and somehow were in a setting where we could see the TX or RX indication if the other person was pressing the talk button, but nothing came through (volume maxed). Did a factory reset and out both radios on a private channel thanks to your video. Thanks Nate. Subbed.
I just bought a pair of these for a Mustang cruise we are going on this weekend. Last year we didn’t have them and we got left behind after having to stop for a few minutes.
This was a great video for these two-way radio. My company just bought some and they want ME to explain how to use them, ME? I never use one before in my life. Wish me luck.
Glad it was helpful! good luck, the directions seam difficult but once you start playing with them its easy, just use the normal channels and not the privacy ones if you can and then lock the unit so people don't easily change settings

Thank you, you helped me alot. Its my forst time with real walkie talkie, you explained everything perfect! Thank you again. Helped in 2024 I have the orange x talker Model:T51c
On the T51A model how do you set the hi power because the manual doesn't say how to set it up just tell you be sure to set your radio to use Hi power in the T50 manual. who wrote the manual Microsoft lol.

These radios are pretty popular foreclosed communication in my local area there is a dentist office that uses them where are the dentists in the hygienists and dental assistants can all communicate from one room to the other without having to go search for whoever they want to in some cases that means leaving the patient for a while just to go talk to somebody this way a hygienist can be working on a patient and still be in communication with everyone else.
Great video explaining so much. I get how privacy mode works, they should have called it, “selective hearing mode”. However I was hoping to see how to set them, I think they need to be side by side to set the code. I bought two sets and I am hoping to set all 4 to the same privacy code. One will go to my mother-in-law who lives 25 miles away. We might need to get her a stronger base unit. We have a bunch of relatives who live about this distance away. I am also trying to get my closest friends to get the Midland XTalkers and test them at various distances. It sounds like Channel 36 might be a good choice since we could isolate to only Midland radios. I have a HAM license and radio but i doubt my relatives and friends would want to cram like I did to get my license which I spent a Saturday doing years ago.
If you get a GMRS license, your family is covered under your license. Midland's "extra" channels after 22, are actually FRS channels with fixed talk codes. Radioreference has a chart with the channel info.
family service radios in jenerail all operate at a mile in town you may need to help them set up the G M R S radio since your a ham then it's one license per household
IF your family member is 25 miles away you will not reach them on family service as you are using a radio with a half watt of power on G M R S your family members can get a license with no test at $ 35.00 dollars per family house hold's you set up the radio's for a radio tower near by and thay have a 20 miles range try this most hams have a G M R S license.

Switching channels will really only help when others are using the channel you are on. Ways to try to get better range/reception are: 1) Upgrade batteries. Ditch the rechargeable pack if it came with it. Using alkaline batteries can help. Better batteries can yield better results, i.e. using Energizer MAX or Lithium batteries, Duracell Power Boost, etc. 2) Hold the radios so the antennas are straight up and down. 3) Line of sight is best. 4) Vehicles tend to cause interference and limit the range to about 1/2 mile. 5) Avoid obstacles as much as possible: buildings, trees, hills, etc. Good luck!

You can have YOUR RADIO only turn on when it hears the correct privacy code it is programmed for. Most radios have what is called a "vox" setting. It allows hands free comms, just look through your radios owners manual for it. Nothing is private using ordinary two way radios unless you apply for a business license from the FCC. Businesses are allowed to use radios capable of encrypted radio transmissions.
There are some good, concealed headsets, and make sure to setup VOX on your radios, and use codes on any channels you use, so you won't hear others on the channel.
The FRS/GMRS Radios have Pre-Defined Frequencies and Modulation. ( Ch 1 - 22 is Frequency Modulation on Agreed-Upon Frequencies. FRS-1 is the same on a Midland/BaoFeng/Cobra/Collins/ect. It is the TYPE of radio, not the Manufacturer.
Radio signal propagation in this frequency range (line of sight), on flat ground with NO obstructions would get about 7 miles radio to radio due to the curvature of the Earth. Throw in obstructions (trees, houses, buildings, cars etc) and the range decreases significantly, and I do mean SIGNIFICANTLY. Mountain top to mountaintop with no obstructions MIGHT get the full distance, but even then, I doubt it. I wish manufacturers would stop using the transmission distance as the barometer for sales. It is misleading to the uninformed consumer, and that is what they are relying on.

Great video.
How do you turn off vox mode?
Did you eventually figure out how to turn VOX off? Hit menu button 4 times, then the up arrow until you see OF , then key the mic. All done
I need help turning off vox
I need something where I can secretly talk to my significant other when we are shooting wedding photography together...mic/ headphone ear piece..whats your best advice..I don't want to have to pick it up and push a button to talk back and forth as im constantly shooting pictures and wouldn't have time to drop the camera to push a button to talk..or is there anything I can go wireless/bluetooth with with law mic and small ear piece?
Most radios have what is called a "vox" setting. It allows hands free comms, just look through your radios owners manual for it. Nothing is private using ordinary two way radios unless you apply for a business license from the FCC. Businesses are allowed to use radios capable of encrypted radio transmissions.
yes look at the accessories on the midland website, they have the super cool Secret Service looking ear piece
There are some good, concealed headsets, and make sure to setup VOX on your radios, and use codes on any channels you use, so you won't hear others on the channel.
These radios are great
I love them
Great review . Thanks
Great info! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
They work now, I was super frustrated until I watched this. The manual? Totally laughing because I have no clue where I put it. It's here, but...
Can midland two way radios communicate with other radios like baofeng brand etc.
The FRS/GMRS Radios have Pre-Defined Frequencies and Modulation. ( Ch 1 - 22 is Frequency Modulation on Agreed-Upon Frequencies. FRS-1 is the same on a Midland/BaoFeng/Cobra/Collins/ect. It is the TYPE of radio, not the Manufacturer.
yes they all work on the same frequency
Awesome info !
Thanks
the shit's flat
Thank you!
Nice video
Thanks
I wish there was an LED that indicates charging
We got em for the farm
glad that they help you out
Thankyou sir
X talker is gmrs also 5w l

These are 2watts, so they are FRS.
Oh wait so I can’t connect to the CSX trains that pass by
no sorry
Very good friend😂❤🎉🧲🎹🎹🎹💖🦊
To bad they don't put out 5 watts like the older ones.
Can we here police on it ?
No
wrong radio you need a scanner for that
Thanx
He gives some good info. But too much rambling. Sweet simple and to the point next time.
Thanks,
Hands free for kayaking
Most vox settings sucks. Best to just have a push to talk ring or wrist band.
and the fee is 35.00 dollars as I have one
You talk too much. Just explain how it works
Great video. The instructions that came with the radio are really bad.
And what not
Be Aware that the FCC will be INCREASING The License Fee in 2022, maybe to $70+ ! Get your GMRS now, or wait and Pay More...
I thought they were lowering the price
License as of April is $35, and these radios fall under reclassification of FRS.
